Even if the interactions between the Best Friend and Wife were non-sexual, there's still a clear implication of an emotional intimacy and non-sexual affection that would have been considered a betrayal of trust. (Especially given that it all took place in apparent secrecy. Though perhaps Me's noted inattentiveness was a factor there.) That being the case could explain why the Best Friend seems to have been conflicted about whether to "come clean" or not, and why both the Best Friend and Wife clearly share the sentiment that it was never a true love but simply a closeness that fulfilled unmet needs. Although either way, Me acknowledges that whatever did happen would never have done so if it weren't for his own betrayal (the act that put the Best Friend out of work and left him "forsaken"), and the emotional neglect of his wife (arguably a betrayal of his vows). He's even accepted that he needs to be open about his feelings; his insecurity, his envy and jealousy, his anxieties about becoming his father and/or becoming the "loser" his father declared he was, and all the other pent-up traumas he's buried over the years in constant work and selfish egotism. (Yay for personal development.)
AS always: thank you for the video!! A little back up trivia: Ayreon is not the artistic name of Arjen as some people thinks. Ayreon is the name of the main character of the first album: The Final Experiment. Ayreon is a blind minstrel boy from the 6th century or so, that is receiving telepathic images from the future (year 2084 when, in the lore of Ayreon universe, the world will be destroyed) and he tries to give the message to the round table of the king Arthur and we find Merlin has a conflict with it.
Great video as usual! Thank you! Wow, we are already at the end.... just a week away! I wonder if you could listen to Day 20 without reading the lyrics... i suggest :) As you asked, i suggest again to do a serie on the album "Be" by Pain of Salvation!
I was about to suggest that album as well. It would be awesome to get Guylain's input on that wonderful album by Daniel Gildenlow, another artist that I consider to be on top of his art just like Arjen and Tuomas.
Hello Guylain, you mentioned in your comment Jethro Tull as a reverence for the part with the flute, but in the 60’s and 70’s we have a band called “Focus” which made more progressive music as Jethro Tull ever did (I was an dj in that time). This band Had 2 amazing creative musicians Thijs van Leer (flute, keyboard, singing) and one off the best guitar players in that time Jan Akkerman. I think to recognize Thijs in the way the flute was payed in this part of Ayreon and there are also video’s where he is on stage. Thijs van Leer made a lot of beautiful music and one of my favorite serie and worth to investigate is “Introspection” (4 records with classical and semi classical music). Jan Akkerman had a solo career as well, but more rock/jazzy. These versatile musicians can make you feel happy because of the level of their music. BTW I like the Ayreon project with all these amazing collaborations. ENJOY the music.
Oh, wow, thanks for the reference! Here, in Canada, JT was very much loved and I still listen to their music. That is why I refered to it. I will certainly try to find the bad you are talking about.
Shame, this album almost done, the series so far are good fun and I love the detailed explanation of the lyrics. This makes the album so much better, since I never thought about the lyrics that deep. As for doing the Electric castle in the future... Great, It was my introduction to the work of Arjen, and he never failed to deliver ever since. So, thanks for you hard 'work' and detailed analysis of this "rock opera". It's simply lovely... ps. great work on the subtitles... (even when it;s not needed for dutch, they are spot on.)
I think Pain of Salvation's BE would be perfect for Guylain's analysis. I hope he'll listen to it in the future, it's another prog masterpiece from 2004.
Yes! I have loved it since release and it is an album close to my heart, though I shed a tear listening today whilst listening to Lilium Cruentus about death. A close friend's birthday, but he was killed by a drunk driver :/
Can you imagine the muscle atrophy if Me was in a coma for 189 days? In other words, "here before the title typo has been fixed". On a more serious note, I can't wait to see the reaction to these last puzzle pieces before the grand finale.
Day 189? i wish! Please react to the rest of the Ayreons, many of the albums (not including human equation) directly link into one main story here is the order i recommend: The Final Experiment Into The Electric Castle The Universal Migrator 1&2 The Source 01011001 i have watched alot of ayreon reactions and, first of all the full album reaction scene is very small, but also your reactions are the most passionate AND in depth i've seen, so i would LOVE to see you do the 'real' Ayreon story from start to finish!
I will not do the whole repertoire of Ayreon (even if I would like to!), but I am please to tell you that "Into the Electric Castle" is on the program for this year, later. What know what will happen next.
@@GuylainPrince many thanks prince, i cannot hide my dissapointment but at the same time, if you had to choose one, Electric Castle is certainly a great choice! i have been working with taycott and arjen on making like an animated music video/comic for the entire album (if you've checked taycott's lyric videos you will have seen the drawings of the characters) so perhaps it will be whitelisted and uploaded in time for your reaction, perhaps not, we will see! (if im being honest though for a first time listen i think that just lyrics and music is the way to go anyway rather than having visuals pollute the mind) thanks for letting me know anyway, i will mark my calander for your electric castle reactions!
@@GuylainPrince oh i just thought, i should mention as well, if you dont plan on reacting to it you should still listen to the first album on your own time, as Into The Electric Castle has a few lyrics that reference it.
Even "The Human Equation" has an unexpected - and admittedly willful - connection. I mean, it does not ADD to this story, which stands on its own beautifully, yet draws it into the Forever universe anyway. :)
Day 18 is perhaps the most indulgent track on the album and I love for it.

I’m always struck by how similar Floor and her sister Irene sound vocally. - Must be that they share the same cavernous mouth shape!
Gran reacción/análisis como siempre, ojalá puedas seguir revisando el trabajo de Arjen. Saludos

Well, I recorded it yesterday, and it went very well. All pieces are coming together, yes.
Its a great coincedence that this journy ends close to easter.
