One of the most underrated Nightwish songs. It really suits Anette's voice.

I think "meadows of heaven" is Tuomas' term for his childhood home. He seems to reflect on the lost innocence and wonderment of youth. Yes, an underrated song and so beautifully sung by Annette. I suggest Slow, Love, Slow live at Montreux Jazz Festival for your next Annette song.

I think Anette's voice fits this song perfectly. It's a beautiful song overall. I think this is again another song about Tuomas’ childhood and his longing for the wonderful innocence of his youth. There are a couple references to his childhood memories (“Childhood games” and “Toys of olden days”). He is even clearly referencing himself, a child of winter, born in December (“A five year-old winterheart”). It gets a little melancholic after the first chorus, when he seems to look back at his childhood as an adult and realises how things are different now (“Rocking chair without a dreamer” and “A wooden swing without laughter” are some examples). He knows the days of innocence are gone (“Treasures stay hidden”), but he can return to them in his dreams (“I fall asleep And see it al”).

@@TouchyReactions Sure. I love songs like 'The Siren' (I have it as my ringtone 😉), 'Wishmaster', 'Walking In The Air' and 'Over The Hills And Far Away'. But another 10+ min. epic song, which does not get the attention it should, is 'Beaty Of The Beast' (don't confuse it with their song 'Beauty AND The Beast' though).

This is one of my favourite Nightwish songs. So beautiful and powerful. ❤️ And couldn't agree more with what you said about the singers. There's room for them all. 😊

Listening to the album versions of songs like this on, Poet and the Pendulum, Sahara, 7 Days to the Wolves, Arabesque, Rest Calm, All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the Word (The Blue) etc. You really start to grasp how great of a composer Tuomas is. He can compose the most beautiful of symphonies and really rocking tunes, just the same.
Tuomas is a genius songmaker and poet. Anette nails this song perfectly. You found again a perfect NW masterpiece.

You couldn’t be more right with your comments about which singer is best. I will say I like all three of them. Yes even Annette, I think she cops too much flack. No matter who followed Tarja was on a hiding to nothing. Okay she has limited range but still has a good voice. Tuomas and the guys chose her so give her a break. She is still part of Nightwish. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺

My take on it is loss of innocence
Just got recommended this channel on RUclips and I'm glad to have found it. Airborne, All the Way. I served in 1-505 3rd Panthers for 5 years but then got mandatory fun at 1st I.D for the last 3 years I served. I'm binge watching your reactions. All singers are great in their own way, however i am happy Floor is in front now, but some of Anette´s studio work is also really really good, like this one, she just didnt have the same powerful stage precence as Tarja and Floor.
The only one you cant remove from Nightwish is Tuomas, but as long as he keep the carrusel going, he is gonna create great music fitting to who else is in the band, cause he master that, to make great songs with the tools he got.
No one can ever replace Marco, if he dont ever come back, and make he´s vocal lines same way, but new and unexplored music will still come from Tuomas.. he is a master..

It is believed that this song is about a heavenly utopia from childhood, when he still believed in religion and God. The song has an evangelical worship atmosphere. There are references to childhood memories, such as the lyrics ("Sandbox without toy Soldiers.") Also the album artwork is of a farm in a grassy meadow. It is the childhood memory of one who lived as a farmer and remembers the fields as "Meadows of Heaven", but left these religious fields after the break with Tarja. This is perhaps the most passionate and emotional song on Dark Passion Play also referenced in "The Poet and the Pendulum", ("My house was there then / Those meadows of heaven / Days of adventure / One with every smiling face" ). It is the poet (Tuomas Holopainen) who remembers his childhood, when everything was still good, also with Tarja, because Tuomas, along with all the members of Nightwish (except Marco Hietala and Anette Olzon) came from the rural village of Kitee, Finland.

YES! I welcome diversity in reaction scene.Something other than overplayed Wacken 2013.After all: Nightwish is much more.As proven here. Nightwish is diverse.Songs with Anette are like hidden treasures in reaction scene.*Some people* 👀 are so far up in Floor's butt (and what an AWESOME butt it is but not the only one) that they don't know any better. Nightwish is a vehicle of spirit. No matter who is the singer.They all served Nightwish in their time. Also in records one can hear little details and orchestral parts better than in live versions. After all: Tuomas and co.didn't work in vain with those records.Just so that fans would say:"Live is better, Nightwish is a live band!!!111!!" Sure, live is more fun to watch because you see the band in action but never underestimate their brilliant records, like most of the reactors do because hive mind screams: "LIVE IS BETTER" NO.Just different kind of top notch. 😎

You know, Anette gets a lot of flack for being great in the studio but terrible at live performances but honestly... she sounds amazing here. The only negative thing I can say about it is that she seems a bit low energy but that makes sense for this particular song. Love her make-up. It's really a shame there's no better quality video/audio from Anette's era but this specific fancam is great. Someone call Nightwish Arena and see if they can clean it up a bit more lol
