The "they loved him second most" line is great when you remember that, according to the Lord of the Rings episode, Soren's the seventh or eighth of their kids and they still prefer the dog.

In the Harry Potter universe it's mentioned when Sirius dies that coming back as a ghost or proceeding to the afterlife is a choice, and the first option is usually picked by those who are bitter about something or have unfinished business in the living world. Lily and James, though I'm sure sad they missed Harry growing up and all that, weren't the kind of people to be bitter and stay behind. Also, pictures are enchanted personifications of people, not the person themselves and the Resurrection Stone just had the power to bring someone temporarily back over from the afterlife. No one actually is inside of it.
Oh and creepy shriveled Voldemort was just a representation of his fractured soul being detached from Harry's. That wasn't Voldemort's afterlife, it was Harry's limbo.

The crown's tiny voice saying "subway fetus" is one of the funniest half-seconds ever to me, or some reason. I genuinely run that part repeatedly whenever I watch this particular After Hours. It's just so random & odd...
The joke behind Bill and Ted defeating Death at all the board games wasn't to say that Death sucked at board games (he had yet to be beaten in any contest before Bill and Ted.) It was to show that that the only thing Bill and Ted were skilled at was something so otherwise useless. Remember, they still couldn't even play their instruments until the very end of the second movie.
In Harry Potter you get your magic put into a painting to survive after death. Ghosts have to choose to stay behind. Voldemort is a baby in the station thing but that's because his soul was distorted, since he destroyed it so much with murder and horcruxes. Plus, Harry had more of Voldemort's soul than Voldemort and that in itself says a lot about his soul. I'm assuming James and Lily chose to go on. The rock calls them back whether they are willing or not, but they can go back to heaven or whatever after he lets it go.

Ida Säntti yea sirius seemed to always know more then the other wizards. Maybe it was because of his past? Or maybe he didn't want to have his soul in a painting. Which I always found sad/messed up. I mean if I am a wizard , and can decide what to do with my soul after I'm gone. Of course I would want to be free.

I'm crazy and re-watch the entire After Hours playlist like, I dunno, probably like 3-4 times every year because I love dissecting movies and stuff, but I watched the end-slate to this video for the first time, and I gotta say... Holy cow, you guys came a LONG way in the last not-quite-two-years. Soren's excited for reaching one hundred and twenty-two thousand, three hundred and forty-three subscribers on behalf of the Cracked guys, but now you guys are over one million! (Yes, I wrote them out, likely poorly, for dramatic effect.) I've been following Cracked in one form or another since... I dunno, 2008 maybe? Maybe even before that, your guess is honestly as good as mine...

Seems that way to me, but it could also be just a kink for the the times People are at the extreme ends of their emotions.
[After Hours] Katie slept with Micheal the day before the first episode of After Hours, seemingly after a huge emotional moment for him, because Micheal’s tries to tell the story a few times and give context but she always stops him; and then slapped a restraining order on him while he was just normal Micheal, until the valentine’s episode.
Katie was also really in Soren 1 time before, when he was seething with anger in the Batman episode in the first diner, but it’s never addressed, and only pops back today when he’s at an extreme low.
They really knew how to keep the characters with the same core personality, throughout the entire series.

As a ghost you would constantly have a chain dangling from your chest until a monster comes and eats you. Even if you safely make it to the afterlife, it is completely random if you end up in the good or bad part of it. Rukia lived in a slum, while her sister married a sexy prince.

The elves didn't sail to "Heaven" in LotR, they went back across the sea to Valinar, the physical, ON EARTH, home of the Ainur/Creators of the earth, but it is still an actual location and not an astral kind of immortal space. If anything, Bilbo died on the boat trip there and Frodo was probably much older on arrival. Elf lives are considerably longer neigh infinite, so a century long boat ride is basically nothing but to a mortal species, its being on a fucking boat for a good portion of your life.
The Undying Lands in the west *are* an analog of Heaven. Mordor in the East is an analog of Hell. And the lands between are for the lives of the mortal races. Actual gods and angels and demons have a physical presence and wander the world among mortals. Heaven and Hell also have a real place within that world. And as you pointed out yourself, the Creators themselves live in Valinor. What is Heaven if not the Kingdom of the Gods?
It isn't known for sure, but some think that the souls of the dead transcend to The Timeless Halls, where the Ainur composed the music that formed Arda with Ilúvatar who gave it existence and where Ilúvatar still dwells between the walls of existence and the Void that came before. The Undying Land is where the elves originated and some of the Ainur existence to give form to the world. The dead do not dwell in the Undying Lands, the Undying do. Frodo, Bilbo, Samwise, and Gimli are the only mortals to be allowed there after it was distanced from the rest of the world so no mortal man could go there again.

In Harry Potter, I think you got to choose whether or not you became a ghost. if you had things left that you still wanted to do - like Myrtle wanted to haunt Olive Hornsby - then you stayed behind to do them. Harry's parents might have thought that Harry would have died with them, so they wouldn't have turned into ghosts to stay with him.
Its more is you're afraid of death and not really ready to die. Like nearly Headless Nick, who said in Order of the Phoenix that he was afraid which is why he didn't move on. Myrtle was like 12, and life was really shitty to her. Harry's parents died for their son and most likely felt on some level that they would die and accepted it.
what about the paintings? are they the actual spirits of the dead people or are they some sort of magic-based artificial intelligence that just have all the thoughts/personality/memories of the person they are meant to look like?

Yeah, the pictures weren't dead ghost or anythings. It's the souls of people that have their pictures painted or taken by a photograph, trapped forever.
Not really, the painting is just a magic representation of the person, it acts as an A.I. made at the time of the painting of the portrait. Dumbledore's painting on the Director's Office isn't his real soul, although it *is* a perfect copy of his personality. Dumbledore's soul itself is on whatever comes after a wizard chooses to accepts Death.

If you die in harry potter you can choose to be a ghost. But very few do because once you're a ghost you're stuck like that forever. It is an eternal after life being among the living but not being able to participate. You can't eat, sleep or do anything fun. Forever. You can't even die. It would be the most monotonous existence ever.
I think, Given Sirius', James, and Lilies predisposition toward wanting to see their child survive, at least one of them would've returned as a ghost. Perhaps the ability to become a ghost is retricted by the use of the Avada Kedavra (which would make sense since you don't want a killing curse where people can return from the dead and rat you out.)
Matthew Schindler Not really. Because Harry is only going to be around for the next 60 maybe 70 years. After that, he's dead and unless he becomes a ghost and his children and their children, it becomes pointless. Why risk an eternity stuck as a ghost when there is strong evidence that there is an afterlife? They couldn't help him as a ghost, only watch. And they can do that from where they are anyway, because when he brings them back with the stone, it is strongly hinted that there is some kind of heaven that they're all watching over him from. And when he dies they can all be together instead of someone stuck on the wrong side of death.
The good place currently has the best afterlife in tv. Especially with the way things are by the end of the series. No spoilers but by far the best afterlife

No- It's apparent in other episodes where they talk about HP. They pull all the information from what the films give us. And to be fair, The films leave a lot of plot holes that the books fill right in. This is one of those examples. Its actually kind of cool how they separate the two pieces of art(films and books). I'd be interested in a CAO episode comparing the books and the films.

And how the stone doesn't hold the souls, it just calls them from the afterlife for a short while.

But Nick says he cant be a ghost because he didnt go through the process and he also indicates he wishes he hadnt done it himself .

3:56 Actually, in the 5th book, Nearly Headless Nick (semi) explains that if you fear death, you had the choice to come back to the real world as a ghost, but if you didn't fear death, you wouldn't come back (aka Harry's Parents, Sirius and Lupin)

No, Harry's parents chose to move on, just like Sirius did instead of being a ghost because, like Nearly Headless Nick tells him, being a ghost ends up being absolutely terrible and nearly always regretted. Harry's parents come out of Voldemort's wand in book 4 as well so that's when they would have been released, not the book 7 but they weren't ghosts, they were just echos of the people that the wand had last killed. In book 7, Harry sees his loved ones because he's chosen to die, Voldemort's wand is nowhere near him then, he's only on his way to where Voldemort is.

In Harry Potter, the people in the paintings aren't necessarily there as an afterlife thing, they are just enchanted photos. There are paintings/pictures of people who were still alive that moved. It's just how photography works in the wizarding world. Also, the stone didn't keep them trapped, it was a special stone that could resurrect spirits from the other side, which did work with Harrys' parents and Sirius, Remus, etc. Also they did contact him a few times, such as in the fight scene between Harry and Voldemort in the fourth book/movie where Harry was on the brink of almost getting hit by the spell that would kill him, he had some sort of close encounter to the other side, thus responding with his parents coming to help him.
Also the ghosts were there because of how they were killed, in horrible ways. Helena Ravenclaw was murdered by Bloody Baron, Moaning Myrtle was killed from the basilisk, and well Nearly Headless Nick was in the middle of getting his head chopped off, which isn't an ideal way to go. So with horrific deaths, lead to them not wanting to move on. In my opinion, anyone have any thoughts on it?

Because it isn't really life after death. It's like your body is a PS2, the memory card is your soul and the data is your mind. When you get reincarnated your "memory card" is erased and put into a new "PS2"

Michael Iv Yes, it's set in multiple time periods (ranging from the 1800s to a post-apocalyptic future) with a main character and storyline for each setting, but throughout we see various characters returning as different people, and we see how the actions of a character in a past time period affects the story and characters in a future period.
"Beat death at clue." It's hard to play two person clue. I think the rules state that you put a card face down in each room and the first person to get there gets the card. You can't make negative predictions until all cards are retrieved. And usually by that point it's a race to the one room you both know by this point. It can be fun but only with optimal personality pairing. I could play my brother or mom who are humble and kind. but not my sister or dad, sore losers and even worse winners.
