Bubba's mom didn't have "zero lines", when Forrest went to her house to pay his respects and tell her about his plan to actually become a shrimp boat captain even thought Bubba had passed, she said one of the most iconic and reused lines in the movie "You stupid, or something?".
@@TheMike2784 yeah the fuck it does. You're obviously not paying attention. Just recently a Texan cop broke into a black man's apartment and shot him while he was taking a shower and got acquitted.
I thought that Forrest Gump mimicking his mother having sex was incredibly disturbing. Not only in implication, but also because it sounds like a dying walrus or something.
Katie's point that Forrest just parrots that line about Jenny's dad being "a very loving man" potentially from the man himself was just perfect. It puts a horrifyingly disgusting scene in my head, but, nonetheless, the point was perfect. Katie wins.
Great video guys. Very insightful. I always saw the movie as this: Forest remains the same, through out every decade and every event in US history while usually being the one to unknowingly start things, while Jenny represents the changes throughout the decades, which is why every time we see her, she's different.
Kadie Rose That's an interesting theory... But doesn't that send an even WORSE message? "Grow, change, and adapt to the world as it is... and die slowly of a horrible disease." "Remain ignorantly and obstinately static, be oblivious to the hard truths of the real world...and live a life of success, prosperity, and inner peace." 😛😛😛
aoiN3KO The only reason Jenny even likes Forrest is because she reminds her of simpler times, of peace and security... He's also, given her lifestyle, probably the only person she knows that she hasn't alienated. Hell, she only agrees to marry him because she's dying and needs someone to take care of her kid... and the fact that Forrest is the father only makes it worse. The child is maybe six when Forrest first learns of his existence, so for six years Jenny hid the fact that Forrest had a son from him... information that he is legally and ethically entitled to possess. If she hadn't gotten sick, she may NEVER have told Forrest.... And we are supposed to be sympathetic towards Jenny? She couldn't be bothered to lick a fucking stamp and send Forrest a note saying "Hey, you got a kid!" back when she was healthy and in the prime of her life... But soon as she finds out she's dying, it's like: "I know! I'll go hit up that retarded doormat I used to sit on the bus with--I hear he's loaded now..."
I play Bingo with them now. It is really fun. You just let a playlist run then check the comments. My bingo rewards are often just my on hand munchies, makes the comments alot more fun.
I make myself popcorn and then sit down for a laugh. From turning a simple statement about mascara into a debate about feminism to turning Forrest Gump into a debate about feminism to turning making cookies into a debate about religion, there is no end to the entertainment.
I have a theory that Forrest Junior isn't Forrest's child, and Jenny just told him that it was his, because Forrest is gullible, so that Jr. could live a rich happy life.
I use to think of her as a bad person stringing a mentally challenged man around and using him. Now I feel like a monster for thinking that... DAMN IT KATIE!
Kristal did you seriously not realize during the movie that she’s been abused by her father? They didn’t hide it. It’s why she tells Forrest she wishes she had wings so she could fly far away....
I've read quite a few reviews that said Forest Gump was somehow "right wing". As a European I often notice cringeworthy over-the-top patriotism and weird celebrations of the Army in American movies - But I never saw it in Forest Gump. What was right wing about that movie? I mean they say if you're an idiot you're the perfect soldier. I love that film.
Forrest kind of white-washes American history. The way it treats matters of race, class, and gender relations are pretty much the way social conservatives* at the time treated them (blacks were held back because they were lazy and stupid, poor people didn't work hard enough, women made poor decisions - everyone was responsible for their circumstances). If you look at the portrayal of the Vietnam war, it was only military personnel they considered: I have trouble recalling a single Vietnamese civilian in the movie. That's pretty much how conservatives saw it: us vs. the commies. *I mean the standard anti-civil rights social conservatives. Not the sort you see today.
Marshall Banana Woah there Senator McCarthy, I'm not interested in advocating America-bashing. You can consider it brilliant if you like. I don't think it's a bad film frankly: just problematic because of the narrow vision. It has a lot of mass appeal, and if that works for you, that's totally fine. What I meant about the Vietnam war was that a major part of the debate surrounding it was whether it would benefit civilians. The US wanted to project the image of a champion of democracy, so for a lot of people Vietnamese civilians or politics would be pretty important to any portrayal of that era. They gave a very specific outlook of the world, so they ignored that altogether. As for portrayals of different people, there are different issues with each of these characters. Bubba is pretty idiosyncratic, so I'll concede that point rather than deal with that can of worms. Jenny dealt with some pretty bad circumstances, but you always get the feeling that she's making bad choices as an adult. You get the feeling that she doesn't know what's good for her, which ends up leading her down that unfortunate path. I'm not commenting on whether this is true or not. It's just a specific portrayal which could have been done differently if the directors and screen writers had chosen to do so. As for being poor, if you've ever had to deal with not having enough money or struggling to find even mediocre jobs, you'd know laziness is rarely the only reason people who are poor often remain poor for quite a while. I'm not going to bash you for coming from a middle class background (most likely), but you're not in a position to say whether most people conform to stereotypes in a given group (except your own, whatever that may be).
***** I ceded this point already. But you could probably look at things that way (though the writers would probably say he had a simpler view rather than a wrong one).
Marshall Banana the red scare, while not entirely unfounded in regard to the reality that the cold war was ongoing, was truly an exaggeration of fear and paranoia. It was, however, not much worse than what we see today with ethnic middle eastern and Muslim individuals, who are not being given the benefit of the doubt that is theirs by right, and are persecuted for the "connection" their belief or heritage gives the to an ultra violent minority. McCarthyism was only worse because he went for people in politically significant positions to further his own cause by forcing his fellow politicians to his side in fear of being the next of his targets. As far as Snowden goes, when it became known how Nixon abused his power, there was an appropriate outrage towards the one who committed the crime, not the one who brought it to the public. That was the way it should be today. It is sad, that an individual which sheds light onto the illegal machinations of the Government and secret service today is not held in higher regard. He did a great service to the US and the World, and any whistle-blowers should be celebrated for their courage. They are a necessary replacement to a media system which has disregarded its purpose: to promote transparency in Governance, a fundamental component of any Democracy. The Snowdon affair is in no way about the "security of the internet", it is about government institutions abusing their power in an intrinsically criminal manner, with no regard to the rights of the citizen.
If you obey authority, do what you told etc you succeed beyond any imagination. If you question authority, disobey and do things your own way you will have a shit life and die of AIDS. That's text book definition of right wing.
every time I watch this video im reminded about how long you guys have been doing this. Thank you for putting your time and energy into these videos. This is one of my favorite things to watch.
I really like this episode. It's not that funny, but insightful and sensitive about a lot of horrible issues. I know tomorrow it will have been a year since this was posted, but thanks for making this, Cracked!
The Only Point they made is, The entertainment Industry are Rich white people getting richer by rewriting history,.. Oh wait,... that is Literally, ANTIFA BLM Democrats and Leftists today....
After seeing the film the first time, it seemed obvious that it had a strong conservative slant. Forrest is the ideal conservative, always doing the right thing because of his character rather than his intelligence and learning. He is mostly shot in rural Southern scenery. Jenny is the conservative's idea of a liberal: wayward, purposeless, immoral. She is mostly in city environments. Lt Dan starts out as a conservative, loses his way, then finds conservatism again and marries a Vietnamese woman, thereby making the war all right retroactively. Bubba's politics are irrelevant, he is just there to tell Forrest what he needs to know to get rich. Forrest's mother makes every sacrifice for the sake of her son, and that's the extent of her life. Forrest is so conservatively pure that he doesn't even earn his wealth. He doesn't know how to be a fisherman. He is simply in the right place when divine intervention or dumb luck makes him a billionaire (and presumably puts all other fishermen out of business). It's a pretty and often well-written film, but the political bias is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
Kiki Yuyu I'd never call Forrest Gump intentionally racist, but like the guys point out here in this video there's some moments where you just pause and go "Wait a minute-"
Does no one in the coments get that their overanalysation is supposed to be a joke, of course they relize that Forrest Gump isn't intentionally racist, their overanalysizing to look at movies from a different angle, but the whole time keeping a comedic feel to it.
+Steven Milner You do know that's not accurate, right? Sure, some of the analysis is far-fetched in order for, like you said, provide a comedic twist to film theory; however, the main point still stands: Forrest Gump is racist and they give so many examples of it.
Hector Melendez I agree, but commenters are basically saying that cracked is calling Tom Hanks or anyone associated with this film racists, which is not what their doing. I don't think the film makers were purposely trying to disenfranchise blacks with this movie, even if that may have been a side product.
+Steven Milner Thats exactly right the issue is a sociological concept where the people involved in the movie didn't come from Black experience, obviously if you've never been a part of a certain culture in a time where there was little open discussion about these types of race concepts you won't think or even acknowledge that it might genuinely be racist/offensive to erase the truth about Elvis' appropriation of black rock n' roll and taking all the credit or make it a joke because those immersed in popular culture don't get that education and most white people don't live amongst blacks and have to think about these issues. The directors and writers and producers just think its funny because they come from popular culture stand points but the issue is that racism has been so engrained into society that this is basically what systemic racism looks like, its gotten to a point where it is the norm, where its an accident and its hard to undo now.
+Keir Tanaka the reason she asks him that is because he explains to her that he plans on becoming a shrimp boat captain. she realizes that it's a hard job to do solo and that most people go broke attempting to catch shrimp. She doesn't appear to be racist.
Chronologically this is the second-to-last After Hours as they mentioned in the sitcom timelines episode that they have these meals consecutively every day after work but Michael says that the back to the future episode took place four years ago. The only explanation is that this is a flash-forward and thus the farthest in the future of any besides the curse episode, as it is the only one to mention that years have gone by.
On the euphemism it wasn't that uncommon to hide stuff like this according to the actress who played the abused daughter in "Too Kill A Mocking Bird". She said that everyone knew dads who "were a little too loving" or other such hiding phrases. It was never explained what happened but everyone kind of knew what was implied.
Any video about racism in America really brings out the best in comment sections. I really enjoyed the video and the Gump movie. Great points all around. Just when I thought I knew about Forest Gump, I don't. And Back to the Future is my favorite movie. But yeah, totally racist.
Francis Vincent Ong I don't think it was actually racist. I mean, the point of BttF and Forest Gump was that main characters alter or create history in comedic ways. the movies took place in the 50s-80s which were huge times for the civil rights movement. Odds are they're gonna change stuff that Black people changed.
Francis Vincent Ong at which point exactly does Bttf implies or is predicated on the idea of the superiority of any race over any other race ? Stealing black people’s achievement is not racist, it’s... weird, and a rewriting of history, but not racist if you don’t imply anything on race. In fact, isn’t it racialist (not racist, racialist) to suppose that because a person from race A steals accomplishments of race B it automatically means that this setting is implying Bs can’t do anything on their own ? It sure looks like to me.
Fantastic, and disturbing. Darkly disturbing. I really liked that movie too... Well done cracked crew, Keep 'em coming. You could spoil us with 2 afterhours next month ;-)
Forrest Gump is supposed to be the embodiment of America during that era. Tom Hanks himself said that was the goal for the movie from the beginning. So obviously he would have to be tied into the civil rights movement. And to be fair, during that era there was a lot of stupidity on the far left too. (More my kind of stupidity, but still stupidity.) I love Forrest Gump, because it's a very frank look at the America of that generation. It's a great movie, and if you'll remember Gump's friendship with Bubba is in my opinion one of the greatest stories friendship and acceptance between races of all time. It's like Forrest doesn't even recognize that Bubba was black, at all. We could use a few more Gumps in the world if you ask me.
The irony is that Forrest gets rich doing what Bubba wanted to do. I think the point of these videos is not "the person who made this had this in mind," but that "the person who made this didn't notice they were making something else entirely." Forrest Gump isn't racist, but there's a lot of shit that goes on that can be construed to be racist, if that makes sense.
Are you attempting to twist the central message of the story? Bubba died a hero, and is forever engraved in our minds as the hopeful entrepreneur. Obviously, Forrest is not beyond such reproach...
I'm just saying, the video is trying to find stuff by overanalyzing. That's literally the point. You can't really get mad at them for doing what they set out to do.
This video has 3.1K comments in the last 4 and a half years that I’m SUPER not gonna scroll through - I’m just gonna act like this is the first time it’s been pointed out. Bubba's mom asked Forest if he’s stupid or something.
I don’t think that Jenny was supposed to be a sexually confused and “stupid” woman but a 3d character who has had multiple factors that make her so unhappy and angsty as a character
This made a black empty hole in my heart. I feel like I just watched a puppy get murdered, only to have the murderer give a perfectly reasonably, valid justification for why it had to happen.
Episode idea "Luke is the bad guy in Star Wars" The prophecy states that the chosen one is meant to bring BALANCE to the force. That means an equal amount of good and evil must exist. Anakin reduces the Jedi to 2 members (expanded universe aside) and in tern becomes the second Sith, hence balancing the force. Then Obi wan dies and look becomes a Jedi, he goes on to set the events in motion that leads to the death of Vader and the emperor. This again destabilizes the force because as far as they know only the light side exists (expanded universe aside) then in force awakens he'll probably try to destroy the remaining Sith and destabilize the force. Hence he's not the chosen one, but instead the villain.
I was with you all the way on this. I fucking hated this movie. Then someone laid down the Jenny theory on me which I had never thought of. It suggested that if you look at this movie from her point of view then the movie is really a story about a woman who was a victim of childhood abuse struggling with her love for a man with special needs who was her childhood friend and one of the only people who was ever decent to her. She loves him deeply but can't sexualize and therefore fully romanticize that love for the fear that she will be reenacting her own abuse. The movie is really a story of Jenny struggling with her shame for her attraction to Forrest, who she doesn't believe to be intellectually capable of consent. The progression of the story leads Jenny to a dignified understanding of Forrest, who she eventually realizes is both capable and deserving of her fully realized romantic love. There's more to it but I don't feel like looking it up. Still it made me think. All the racist, oversimplified garbage is still there, but this feels like a little bit of relief.
I disagree with the jenny sexual abuse thing. That was more likely just how forrest understood what he saw. He wasnt being told that jennys dad was a "very loving man" He saw jennys dad always hugging and kissing her and thought thats what it meant. Dude was too innocent (and retarded) to make the connection. As for the stealing everything from blacks, no. He stole everything from everyone. He was a featured part of virtually every significant event in america. Both black and white caused. It was basically about his charmed yet tragic life. Dude goes through everything with a combination of luck both good and bad. He becomes rich, he meets multiple presidents, he triggers numerous social events and highlights of the time frame, and influences everything. He doesnt just take black events, he takes them all.
Why don't cartoon creators ever age their characters? It seems like the life experiences they'd go through would open up so many more storytelling options.
+Mike Thole because then it would be a sitcom therefore defeatin the point of a cartoon. An escape from reality with peter pan esc characters and comfortably predictable plot.
I remember for a couple of years wanting for them to make one about Forest Grump. The image I had for Forrest Gump is shattered. Also, I like how Dan talked about rap music since the first episode/back to the future did mention that he had a "rap phase"
4:39 Wasn't that the principal? I've never been clear on that. I was 12 when I went to see this with the other kids in my condo complex. They were all 15/16/17 (I don't know why they wanted to hang out with a 12 year old, but in hindsight, I think I was the "little brother" of the group...possibly with special needs...who was almost adorably naive, but was accepting of everyone...wait...was I Forrest?) and so they were all at the age where they'd started doing "those things." They laughed. I was just confused. The "big brother" of the group told me it was the principal. Honestly; that scene just scared me... I never realized until now how well parts of my life, including sex life, matched up with Forrest....damn. Took me almost 30 years to realize that...
Usually you make good points but he was spot on with Jenny. Her sexual abuse as a child led her to be both a victim and predator at the same time, not exactly a stretch. And her going with the abuser...yeah, we've never seen women do this. And I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the hippie thing was a symptom of her childhood abuse and not the catalyst for her getting on drugs and getting aids. Her self destructive behavior was already there. Remember when she was looking to the sky and to be a bird and fly far far away? She was destined to fly far away because of her childhood and she did literally and physically, jumping in vehicles and taking drugs. And when she was wishing to fly far far away, she was foreshadowing her suicidal and destructive tendencies. I think far far away was heaven.
0:40 In case anyone is wondering, that dinner did not in fact burn down. Its still there, its called the Village Grille, in Claremont, CA. I only recently realized I live not far from it. I can't go there anymore though. My ex hangs out there. That's just a mess.
Why do people look SO far into these movies? Like Forrest Gump is one of the most simple movies. This guy stumbles into events happening. Who gives a shit whether or not it's something that a black man/woman is known for, whether it was a white man/woman, etc. Then when a black woman is shown as successful and Forrest is nice to another black woman: "They don't have any lines" so it doesn't count? I was starting to find some videos in Cracked very interesting, and different, but this was extremely distasteful. Oh and who had the best point? None of you idiots.
Fan wank, unfortunate implications, and wild mass guessing. Basically, they do it because it's a fun mental exercise to think about what some things mean beyond their simple portrayal. It can give you even deeper understanding into characters and their motivations. They may be fictional creations to us, but in that world, they are real people and should behave as such, or else the fiction falls to pieces. The world portrayed in the Forrest Gump movie is kind of shitty. And the only thing that makes it bearable to watch is the Forrest Gump character himself and how blissfully (or may not so) unaware of it all he is. Still one of the best movies of the 90s and one of Tom Hanks' best roles, though.
hackprefect That's how that time period was though, not exactly picture perfect but that's how "hippies" or the "left wing" as these guys say were. My father fought in Vietnam and was greeted in Boston by a bunch of hippies who spat on him as he walked to the bus. My aunt was one of those "hippies" who overdosed on drugs while somewhere on some groupie road trip. That's how life was whether people want to accept it or not.
The first time we actually see Jenny as a grown up is when Forrest starts running from the car as a grown up, something you must have known because you edited out Forrest running in this video.
What this episode fails to mention is that Forest Gump also satirises and skewers the right for e.g American military jingoism and futility Vietnam as well as the racism, ignorance and bigotry of the South. By Forest being a simple man not filled with malice but able to show empathy and kindness it savages the stupidity and ignorance of racism. And on the points on women...there are horrible portrayals of men for example the father being a pedophile and the macho gung ho American male soldier etc but some reason this is ignored. Both left and right are savaged in Forrest Gump, no counterpoints were mentioned in this analysis? Come on just a shred of balance guys.
@@SleepySigh I don't know what are you taking about but if you're Insinuating that the movie portrays women in that sense then you're wrong seeing that Forest's mom is portrayed as a saint.
You guys do realize that Zemeckis is well-documented as a big-time Hollywood liberal, right? Also, did you seriously just try to defend the Black Panthers? I know it's comedy and all, but something tells me you guys didn't do much in the way of actual research . . .
There was a minority of the Black Panthers that were extremely militant. In fact there were quite a few of most activist groups in that time. However, for the most part they weren't as violent as they've been portrayed and were certainly not as violent as the New Black Panthers are today.
MutteringCondolences Very true. Ronald Reagan campaigned for gun laws and campaigned for the anti-assault rifles in California because of the Black Panthers and other citizens arming themselves from Prejudice of the time. Blank Panther demonstrations were exactly like the ones of present day white dudes in AZ,TX, OK, NE, UT walking around with assault rifles and other open carry firearms.Black Americans wanted that right, Reagan helped pass a bill that said no. That is fact, (I learn much from Cracked recommend their books)
If Cracked is your primary source for history, realize that you're only getting a small, politically biased part of any story, and need to do a lot more research.
The Internet Peasant Haha, no. I bring it up because yes I did read about it in cracked material. On the issue of gun rights I can understand. That doesn't make the Black Panthers perfect. Also the information about Reagan is true( Brady Bill and 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. signed the Mulford Act into law in 1967) blog.independent.org/2013/09/18/the-panthers-were-right-and-reagan-was-wrong-on-gun-control/
I'm on board with some of the stuff about stealing black achievements (although I'm sure it was all accidental and not some scheme by Zemeckis to downplay black history) but the lynching thing is really stretching it.
It's actually a quintessential lynching situation, really. Lynching wasn't always race based, and it certainly wasn't always a hanging. They'd lynch anyone who was overtly different, which Forrest was. It's kids, so it's not an actual lynching, but the scenario is very similar.
Y'know, of all the alternate "dark this will ruin your childhood" thinkpieces on the internet, this is the only one to have successfully ruined a movie for me. I can't actually enjoy the film now because... urgh.
Dear Cracked, This is such a perfect analysis of this film, layered with humor and wit, and as an academic who studies popular culture I salute your brilliance!! Please make more After Hours videos!!!! Love, Everyone
Topic Idea: the lack of basic security procedures in Star Trek TNG. I recently started showing them to my daughter, and was struck by how many dangerous situations could have been avoided if the crew had been simply trained better. Quite a number of times a crew member would see some thing strange, like an energy being float through the wall of a coridor, and simply write it of as nothing. A trick of the eyes. This show takes place years after the events of the original Star Trek, and no one ever bothered to go through Kirk's logs, tally up all the wierd shit they encountered, and work that into starfleet training? How about some slogans like, "See something wierd? Don't ignore it, report it!" "Captain acting squirley? Contact security!" "Not feeling okay? Get to sick bay!" It would've saved them from a lot of hassles.
The thing is, he does a lot of weird things where he is credited with doing something that was done by someone else. Like the smiley face design, the "sh*t happens" slogan, the way he manages to stumble into a war protest scenario, all the medals and honors he wins, that time he said houston, we have a problem to a volleyball. Dude did a lot is all im trying to say, and not all or even most of it had to do with "stealing black accomplishments"
+sam foster ....but the fact remains: Bubba's mom is basically a prop in the movie, like the bus stop women. Katie may have miscalculated, but she got her point across just fine.
Ajay George trust me I kno, this take gets you cancelled in the Southern United States. Was forced to watch this schlock fest for multiple u.s history classes from middle through high school.
Let me just say, this is one of my favorite movies and I have seen it no less than 20 times (truly), and I NEVER CAUGHT THIS STUFF!! Fantasy or true analysis, THIS was fascinating! Great job, guys!
I've heard Jenny called an abuser several times now for that scene, and I have to say, I'm a bit confused on that point. True, she took his hand and placed it on her tit without an emphatic yes, but she also pulled back immediately when Forest got EXTREMELY uncomfortable. (Side note: Never realized until just now that those almost inaudible lines afterward were about Forest cuming in the bathrobe. Wtf? That doesn't seem physically possible in that span of time.) So while what she did is definitely not in the realm of right, I'm still not entirely sure why we're considering it out and out abuse. Please tell me it's not because Forest is mentally challenged, because mentally challenged people have relationships and get married etc.
Consent was not clearly defined between them. Such can happen regardless of intellect or intellectual disability. Tragically, just grabbing a guy into doing something and leaving him confused is how assault occurs on a lot of men. At least Jenny was able to pull back the moment she realized he was uncomfortable. There are plenty of women and men who don't, and the men being roped into the situation are often too afraid to say anything.
im also stumped on how gump dumped his lump of gooey jizz without even a hump. nah its called premature ejaculation its acutely kinda common and is possible
Before I even watch this video, let me guess. This comments section is going to be full of misogynists and little Eichmann's throwing the term "SJW" around like an epithet, right? If my choice is between being an SJW or one of you, I pick SJW every single time.
Just imagine a 'Forrest Gump' about a black guy that steals all the accomplishments (or, you know, a single accomplishment) of a white people. Oh how fun would the internet then be considering how it reacted to a black stormtrooper!
I was thinking of those brat back 80s teens movies. The popular girl at school gets date raped in sixteen candles and the nerdy kid from the breakfast club brought a gun to school and got a saturday in detention for it.
I think what the film was getting at was the social implications of the revolutionary society at the time. Its true a lot of forests accomplishments were taken from African Americans. I think this move was just to make him a likable character to show that he wasn't racist or a man of his time. Also hard drugs and the heavy use of them and sex with a lot of different people tend to lead to mental instability. Jenny is a poor story not because it's not well written just because she was taken advantage of a lot and because of that she was led to do extreme things. When those things had consequences she called back to her one good man in her life. Forrest and ask them to raise your child. Because forest is a good man he says yes. Also forest name taken from his history is to imply that people are stupid and they can change over time. Forest Is a descendant of a racist man. But he is one of the least racist people in the world showing that transformation can happen. It also shows that IQ isn't everything. You can lead a successful life without having the highest IQ.
"And that book? Mein Kam-" "Curious George."

Bubba's mom didn't have "zero lines", when Forrest went to her house to pay his respects and tell her about his plan to actually become a shrimp boat captain even thought Bubba had passed, she said one of the most iconic and reused lines in the movie "You stupid, or something?".
That popped into my head when she said it.

aoiN3KO The only reason Jenny even likes Forrest is because she reminds her of simpler times, of peace and security...
But soon as she finds out she's dying, it's like:
"I know! I'll go hit up that retarded doormat I used to sit on the bus with--I hear he's loaded now..."
I wonder if Jenny gave Forrest and her own son AIDS on accident. Wait did she contract AIDS or some sort of cancer?
So is nobody going to talk about Michael implying he burned the old diner down?
Yup. Just like how no one talks about how Dan is actually a child who got transferred into a an adult body.
Or that Michael and Katie 'made love' in a bowling alley.
To be fair, Michael probably found a head spider monster in the old diner and had to burn it down to save the human race.
Hes actually an A-sexual Lego Man
What are you talking about? That diner burnt down by accident. Definitely. Accident.
I started reading the comments expecting people to keep poking fun at the movie and sharing a laugh.
Man was I dead fucking wrong.
Every time I decide to read RUclips comments, I hate myself a little more.
I play Bingo with them now. It is really fun. You just let a playlist run then check the comments. My bingo rewards are often just my on hand munchies, makes the comments alot more fun.
I can't read Cracked or Buzfeed comments anymore without regretting any life choices I made that led up to the decision of reading the comments.
I make myself popcorn and then sit down for a laugh. From turning a simple statement about mascara into a debate about feminism to turning Forrest Gump into a debate about feminism to turning making cookies into a debate about religion, there is no end to the entertainment.
Redgrave192 yes the butthurt thiese days
I have a theory that Forrest Junior isn't Forrest's child, and Jenny just told him that it was his, because Forrest is gullible, so that Jr. could live a rich happy life.
+Dunric Mordamir lol I thought that when I first saw the movie when I was twelve.
I blew my friends minds when I told them my theory.
Most people I know think that as well...
Jenny never once lied to Forrest. We never see her betray him. What a stupid assumption.
Well it's actually not a stupid assumption because Jenny's baby in the novel is black and clearly not Forrests...
you made a line about incest sound even worse than it already was, well done
ha ha ha! I love when Katie makes everyone uncomfortable
That ending about Jenny's molestation...
I don't really cuss often but after hearing that, all I could say was "Fuck!"
I use to think of her as a bad person stringing a mentally challenged man around and using him. Now I feel like a monster for thinking that... DAMN IT KATIE!
I have a whole new understanding of it, and don't think I could watch that movie again. 😄
Kristal did you seriously not realize during the movie that she’s been abused by her father? They didn’t hide it. It’s why she tells Forrest she wishes she had wings so she could fly far away....
I mean what else can you say
I think your in the wrong month bud, it's June
Holy shit you're right! When did that happen? :O
Quick call the guy from ancient aliens.
It's okay, the book is worse, or so I've heard...
Guys they weren't being rasisct they just wanted to get him involved in every activity
OK, so this was pretty fucked up, but I have to admit, they make some very good points.
The Only Point they made is, The entertainment Industry are Rich white people getting richer by rewriting history,.. Oh wait,... that is Literally, ANTIFA BLM Democrats and Leftists today....
Also remember Forrest Gump never actually understood what was going on, he was just honest and did what he thought he was suppose to do
Omg! You guys just said what I always thought but could never put into words. Thank you!
Lies!
Kyero Not an SJW, my thoughts on this movie were pretty similar.
Kyero blah! that wasn't even offensive. try again.
I'm sure you thought these things because you're such a smart person
Yeah, take that conejitoasesinoOG! You think social justice is a good thing! Wait...
What's the point of listing who had the best point? Dan writes all the points. Theirs no point. Dan has em all, for ever. It's always Dan. Always.
The others have written episodes too.
The Jenny's father was a very loving man was my most quoted line from that movie. I tried to make it a catchphrase.
+Boyd Bissell Jr. Valiant effort.
+Boyd Bissell Jr. that belongs on a T shirt
Everything below this post is cancer, do not read further.
+Boyd Bissell Jr. why Jenny's father was a raggedy ass child molester tf?
+Rikoshay colon
there's also the fact Gump monopolizes the shrimp industry of a small town, basically running out every other shrimp fishery in the region
5:40 "..in Zemeckis' favorite shot- Woman getting roughed up in a 50's Chevy..."
That's a 40's Packard and a 60's Chevy Corvair
I'm a woman of African decent and I have loved and always will love Forrest Gump~
Nitron DSP The sad thing is I really have no idea if that's trolling or genuine
Nitron DSP Ah.
You never know these days. Someone on tumblr would have been dead serious about that lol
Kiki Yuyu I'd never call Forrest Gump intentionally racist, but like the guys point out here in this video there's some moments where you just pause and go "Wait a minute-"
Kiki Yuyu I hated Forrest Gump. Worst movie I ever watched.
frogsoda Wow, you are extremely lucky in that case.
Unpopular Opinion: This After Hours was the most fucked-up.(In a amazing,well-written, and entertaining way)
This had to be one of the heaviest episodes of After Hours that I have watched
Does no one in the coments get that their overanalysation is supposed to be a joke, of course they relize that Forrest Gump isn't intentionally racist, their overanalysizing to look at movies from a different angle, but the whole time keeping a comedic feel to it.
***** No prob
+Steven Milner I would agree if I weren't watching a channel full of white apologists.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN ZEMECKIS???" - kills me every time
Bubba's mom didn't have zero lines. I'm pretty sure she had one single line.
+Count Penta Yes, she asks him "Are you crazy or just plain stupid?" and he says "Stupid is as stupid does, Mrs. Blue."
+Count Penta I caught that too but aren't we splitting hairs?
+Keir Tanaka
the reason she asks him that is because he explains to her that he plans on becoming a shrimp boat captain. she realizes that it's a hard job to do solo and that most people go broke attempting to catch shrimp. She doesn't appear to be racist.
+jokerswild00 too which she replies "I guess." *smirk
Right. Much better.
Nobody also notices that when Jenny has her kid, its the only time she's portrayed so angelically? Like she litterally shines brighter
Galv I would love it if you made a after hours timeline
"Why didn't that line become a catch phrase?" XD
On the euphemism it wasn't that uncommon to hide stuff like this according to the actress who played the abused daughter in "Too Kill A Mocking Bird". She said that everyone knew dads who "were a little too loving" or other such hiding phrases. It was never explained what happened but everyone kind of knew what was implied.
Putting the Gump moaning over that Mad Men scene was incredible.
I would've loved it if the whole episode was them talking about Dr Dre.
They changed music for the better.
Sexyually girls hot action fully sex download
Se.m
Moron wings it. Wins.
Forrest Gump in a nutshell.
Ah dammit! Should've sent that to the photoplasty!
Oh, I'm not mad at all. This is one of the best afterhours ever. I'm just sort of over analyzing their over analytics... :P
Adam Bodford I'm sure Obsessive Pop Culture Disorder would appreciate that level of overthinking.
"by accident, i'll bet!" brilliant. i miss this show so much.
Episode idea "Luke is the bad guy in Star Wars"
The prophecy states that the chosen one is meant to bring BALANCE to the force.
Bubba’s mom actually has one line: “Are you stupid or something?”
4:14 "and that book, mein k..." 😂😂😂 dead every time
i need to stop watching these videos. They are ruining all my favorite movies, but i cant stop.
OMG his name is Soren. All this time I thought his name was Sauron
They made a joke in one episode that he is named after Sauron and all of his siblings are also named for Tolken characters.
I know this is comedy and theses guys are funny but they state facts. They have earned a new fan
Yeah, that's a good point.
Young Justice ages their characters.
Kids never grow up either.
I remember for a couple of years wanting for them to make one about Forest Grump. The image I had for Forrest Gump is shattered.
Also, I like how Dan talked about rap music since the first episode/back to the future did mention that he had a "rap phase"
And they're allowed to talk about it now!
BY ACCIDENT I'LL BET
Hey, new subscriber here... What a great find! Makes me feel like I've got intelligent and interesting friends again!
"Who won the argument this week?"
We all lost. :|
Bubba always said "Racist is as racist does".
0:40 In case anyone is wondering, that dinner did not in fact burn down. Its still there, its called the Village Grille, in Claremont, CA. I only recently realized I live not far from it. I can't go there anymore though. My ex hangs out there. That's just a mess.
can you guys do warnings if your going to talk about rape in future videos? this was extremely upsetting to listen to.
and that’s why cracked went bankrupt
Get woke go broke.
Forrest Gump is now forever ruined for me...
Not for me.
+Trusty0418 racist?
+Juan Rabanales No. This movie is too good to be ruined by anyone, lol.
It's pulling at straws
Why do people look SO far into these movies? Like Forrest Gump is one of the most simple movies. This guy stumbles into events happening. Who gives a shit whether or not it's something that a black man/woman is known for, whether it was a white man/woman, etc. Then when a black woman is shown as successful and Forrest is nice to another black woman: "They don't have any lines" so it doesn't count?
I was starting to find some videos in Cracked very interesting, and different, but this was extremely distasteful. Oh and who had the best point? None of you idiots.
What is art without interpretation?
Cause it's fun
That's how life was whether people want to accept it or not.
well way to kill the mood you... you.. mood-killer....
p.s. It's a joke, they dont actually think that. Don't take everything so seriously.
The first time we actually see Jenny as a grown up is when Forrest starts running from the car as a grown up, something you must have known because you edited out Forrest running in this video.
This was my favorite movie growing up. Thank you...
Sometimes people are too nitpicky and miss the message or point of what they're watching
Oh right I forgot balance is when men are portrayed as people and women are portrayed as monsters.
@@SleepySigh I don't know what are you taking about but if you're Insinuating that the movie portrays women in that sense then you're wrong seeing that Forest's mom is portrayed as a saint.
@@SleepySigh A lot of the men in Forrest Gump are deplorable pieces of shit that barely qualify as people.
You guys do realize that Zemeckis is well-documented as a big-time Hollywood liberal, right?
Also, did you seriously just try to defend the Black Panthers?
I know it's comedy and all, but something tells me you guys didn't do much in the way of actual research . . .
That's a really good point.
Maybe it was a satire of how 'stereotypical' conservatives see American history?
Also the information about Reagan is true( Brady Bill and 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. signed the Mulford Act into law in 1967)
blog.independent.org/2013/09/18/the-panthers-were-right-and-reagan-was-wrong-on-gun-control/
I guess I'm the only one who took the time to look through Soren's yearbook photos
This is maybe their best video! The Curious Geroge bit was on point.
What happened to Jenny's sisters? They literally only get a brief mention but you never ever see them and no one ever brings them up again.
Life is like a box of chocolates. Full of sugar coated lies!
It's kids, so it's not an actual lynching, but the scenario is very similar.
a lynching is not exclusive to blacks
ncolaros
well fair enough then, but if that's the case then it seems like it's separate from the other stuff about black people
it's too much coincidence to be accidental. I think it's some kind of inside joke.
Nitron DSP its sooooo sad that I am surrounded by idiots like you whom most likely never picked up a book but repeats what they heard
Y'know, of all the alternate "dark this will ruin your childhood" thinkpieces on the internet, this is the only one to have successfully ruined a movie for me. I can't actually enjoy the film now because... urgh.
omg! I love you guys. I just Subscribed☺
When I first saw this video, years ago, it changed Forrest Gump for me. I've never been able to watch it since.
Dear Cracked,
This is such a perfect analysis of this film, layered with humor and wit, and as an academic who studies popular culture I salute your brilliance!!
Please make more After Hours videos!!!!
Love,
Everyone
As an alternative to CollegeHumor, you guys deliver much more smart snark and commentary than they do. Thank you.
these videos are so good. wish y'all still made them
i love how this series changes show completely, with a comedic effect. forrest gump will never be the same again
HEY Bubba's mum did get lines! ...Two... but they're lines none the less!
TheBlackDemon1996 feminists always make up some sort of crap
sam foster I don't have to be a feminist to state a fact.
+sam foster ....but the fact remains: Bubba's mom is basically a prop in the movie, like the bus stop women. Katie may have miscalculated, but she got her point across just fine.
Now I feel okay about hating this movie. Thanks, Cracked!
You're ignoring most of the movie just so you can hate it? Okay....
Kevin Jordan this movie blows buddy
@@pdogcentra8648 wow you're so brave
Ajay George trust me I kno, this take gets you cancelled in the Southern United States. Was forced to watch this schlock fest for multiple u.s history classes from middle through high school.
Great video. I love how you guys flip things on their heads with over analysis.
Let me just say, this is one of my favorite movies and I have seen it no less than 20 times (truly), and I NEVER CAUGHT THIS STUFF!! Fantasy or true analysis, THIS was fascinating! Great job, guys!
Lmao at all the triggered right wingers
Dude u look really happy
Actually, not as bad as I thought it would be.

😂😂😂
It's me again, please come back for more After Hours.
Just imagine a 'Forrest Gump' about a black guy that steals all the accomplishments (or, you know, a single accomplishment) of a white people. Oh how fun would the internet then be considering how it reacted to a black stormtrooper!
Cracked.com: Never enjoy anything.
Make an episode about teen movies
I was thinking of those brat back 80s teens movies. The popular girl at school gets date raped in sixteen candles and the nerdy kid from the breakfast club brought a gun to school and got a saturday in detention for it.
Katie is so underrated. Shes like the Dee of the group.
That was an impressively dark commentary on a cinematic classic. Damn good.
