Squirrel, never, and I mean NEVER, stop blue sky thinking. Your ideas, especially the real "thinking big" ideas, are so interesting and maybe my favorite part of your commentary!
Just to point out your speed when you enter those "Clovers" (The places you hit the barriers). You were doing 50 and 57mph going into them, now I don't know about you but I wouldn't do that speed in my own car around that corner. Your issue with the physics mod is that physics are doing exactly what they do and that is apply physics. I'm sure you'll find that the corners are easier to handle at slower speeds
In the US and Canada have the "Slower" lanes for big trucks. but since we drive on the right the far right lane is the "slower" lane. where as in the UK since you drive on the left the far left lane is the "slower" lane. So yes you were correct Squirrel.
I like to play these videos in the background while I play this game myself. It just sounds like you're one of my employees talking to me through radio about your drive. About what kind of trucks you're getting, and your routes, issues you have. Just whatever is on your mind at the time. You essentially work for me and we each run our own businesses. Personally I like the Volvo FH, it has a nice powerful engine, and the dashboard is perfect to set and see my cruise control and go. My fuel consumption, speed, and rpm are all clearly visible while I drive, and have nothing to worry about.
Slow Lanes: Yes, here in the US there will be an extra lane on extreme hills for the really slow traffic. On Interstate Highways, theoretically all vehicles have to maintain at least 45mph, but in recognition that that is sometimes impossible, when going slower you pull into the far right lane and turn on your emergency flashers. In the Appalachian Mountains it is not uncommon to come across 3 or more trucks struggling up the hill together. I'm less familiar with the Rockies.
I've worked in Java software development for over 13 years and you are very wrong. It's very easy to do and it's what they are doing with ArmA 3. The mod author just compiles some java into classes, puts it in a jar and drops it into a mod folder. The game can scan the mod folder and use reflection to determine which classes support the correct interfaces. They could even ship an open source JDK and have the game compile your source code for you.
Also, if you try to drive a real truck that fast into turns, the truck will go straight. That much weight will not turn going that fast. In fact, I just had a crash investigation where the same thing happened.
Hi there. I'm new to euro truck 2 but the bridge at 27 minutes is in medway in Kent. It's quite convincing but there are four bridges there 2 for trains and 2 3 lane bridges for road traffic. It would come under Rochester, Kent
Years ago, Levis tried switching to plain trailers to avoid hijacking. It didn't work, as hijacking continued to be a big problem. So they painted all their trailers denim blue with stitching along the sides and a huge red Levis logo on the side. Fewer hijackings, and if somebody did steal a trailer they always got it back, usually quite quickly. But yeah: undecorated trailers are either companies too poor to have their own trailers, or companies that don't want folks to know what's in there.
While there is no excuse for other cargo types, one would assume that your load of racing cars is going to a track for a race, so it stands to reason you'd see other trucks carrying the same thing going the same place. Like how holiday weekends see fleets of campers (or caravans) heading one way on Friday and Saturday, the other way Sunday and Monday.
I once took a truck with a freezer/fridge box trailer from East Midlands Airport full of Xbox360's at Christmas......unmarked trailer, with two other trucks and an unmarked police car escort, so your right, you never know what is in the back of the bland trailers :D
Well, slower traffic is supposed to keep right, and faster traffic keep left. On some highways, the left lane is for passing only, and traveling in the left lane is illegal. Trucks are sometimes prohibited from the left lane, or restricted to the right lane.
Normally American trucks have hopper-tanks under the actual body, (the chrome cylinders on the w900l) They are quite big. We have slow lanes in the US. the farthest inward is the fastest. Generally you have to have more than one passenger to use this lane.
your right about the plain marked trailers in respect to the intermodel train containers and trailers unless said trailer had a stores name on it like Wal-Mart or Best Buy. Containers can carry anything from boxes of printer paper, clothing items, auto parts, electronics, non perishable food and so on, basically anything that does not need special conditions in shipping like refrigeration or heating. IDK how close they monitor container trucks from being broken into but I do know in the US they monitor the trains very closely.
I'm a Eddie stobart spotter and they have started to invest in coaches, they even have their own rally team, they support a f1 team by taking the car to the races and a polo team
there are trucks (Peterbilt) here in the U.S. that pull combines on trailers (jd s690) and then pull grain trailers behind that yet. and they have less horsepower than the peterbilt you have in the game. these peterbilts are probably pulling about 130,000+ lbs of equipment behind them.
Paul, you should do Pod casts. Sometimes I forget to actually watch the video because I am working and just listening to you talk! I think you'd make really interesting pod casts, and you have a perfect voice for it!
You are 100% correct about how mods makes games stay around for longer.... The prime example of this COD 5. If i play that on xbox or ps3 it says there is about 1000-1500 people online and its takes nearly 10 mins sometimes to find a game where as on pc i can find an online game in seconds and can play custom zombies
Oliver does computer programming at school, who’s my younger brother, at school and learnt Java from our Uncle Matthew, as he had a Raspberry Pi, which is disassembled now, but he has his own laptop and gaming chair in his room. We both got st Christmas a Nintendo Switch from our Aunt Ruth, my mum’s dad’s sister and on it we have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Just Dance 2022, Subnautica, and Legend of Zelda (both of those last games were got by Oliver). I’m hoping to get Lego Dimensions- Doctor Who Level Pack soon…
i think scs should bring out a tandem dlc so you can choose a tandem chassis option the what type after such as flat bed, log transporter, car transporter, tanker, reffer or just a curtainsider.
17:30 "Tunnel sous la Manche" = Tunnel under 'la Manche' (it's the name of the sea between France and UK, I don't know how you call it it english) EDIT 3 years later lol: It's the English Channel I believe
That fuel capacity is really odd. Peterbilts like that one typically have two 110+ gallon tanks (220+ total). Usually lasts about 2.5 days/1300 miles or so.
The model and physics is fine, but you have to remember that the front wheels on this truck are further ahead of you than usual. It turns fine, you just need to learn to drive the truck itself.
I agree, games become more accessible to a wider range of players when it becomes moddable, take Bethesda games, like Fallout, Skyrim and Oblivion, they are all still going strong and still have a solid player base. Multiplayer and modding capability on any game in this day and age is an absolute must imo :)
you should get the logitec g27 if you want the manual shifter with the clutch, or the logitec gt if you want the automatic settup.. i belive the gt is cheeper than the g27, atleast thets how it is in Norway.. dont know if that's the same in the uk, or wherever you'r from
Looks cool, but my big problem with this mod right off is that there is no odometer (it doesn't work). I like keeping track of how far my trucks have driven, and the speedo should be MPH but it's clearly reading KPH. It shows it's pegged at 85 when the GPS is showing 50 something mph. A speedo that only goes to 85 KPH is silly. I assume they make them with Kph speedometers but it'd go much higher than just 85.
That truck should have dual tanks on it with each one holding 760 liters of fuel! As it is that truck holds 79 gallons! That is tiny, wasn't modded right for sure. But that would have cost you £1,930 to fill those tanks, or $2,923.46 at the current exchange rate.
squirrel that isnt a mod effect, that is how you have to turn with american trucks becasue of the length of the overall truck and the nose on the front
PS...Ure video's are fantastic...But what makes them really great,is you talk all the way threw them Squirrel...Just makes them all the more better to watch :-)
in King of the road (old truck game) roads collapsed, got flooded, tunnels shut down etc. if they put that in the game it would much better. it is still good
Oh yeh and from what it looks like, your truck is always slightly off to the right...just the way you're driving I think...if you look at the left mirrors you're quite a bit away from the line...not that it matters lol...just something i noticed
@Squirrel - I saw a game demo you might like called SpinTires, its a Offroad driving sim with some really interesting design features to make it a challenge. Its on Kickstarter if that sounds like your sort of thing.
squirrel, awesome videos keep up the good work slight info correction is that stobart do own a airport but not stansted actually southend i have delivered to both in my works scania R440
The English Channel is called by the French "Canal sur le Manche" (Channel of the Manche). Manche means sleeve in French which denotes the Channel's aspect. French, however, isn't the only language where the word appears. In Spanish, the Channel is called "Canal de la Mancha". Now, in Spanish, "Mancha" means "Spot" where sleeve means "Manga" which means this original denomination of the channel is of a French origin. The More You Know™
I prefer my fatigue simulation off and do it myself.. I feel like the current system has too little driving time.. At some point you'll be sleeping through the day and driving through the night. What I do is sleep at night, drive during the day. With the 11h it won't allow you to do that. Feels much more realistic, not to mention driving during the day is much more fun.
I would love a multiplayer edition to this game. Would be great. Not necessarily like a 40 person server, that would cause mayhem. But just the simple addition of letting you truck with a buddy... would be brilliant. I would be throwing money at SCS. Trucking alone gets boring after a while.
Any chance you could do another U.S. truck? It's the 2012-2013 International Lonestar. The big noticeable thing that the truck has is a giant, chrome, 1920's/steampunk-styled grille on the hood/bonnet.
They should add wildlife to this game, because in America we have to worry about deer, elk, and moose running out into the street. At least I do in Montana.
Euro Truck Sim 2 is like GTA San Andreas because when you drive a car in San Andreas, your type of car seems to be what every single person is driving. Same with trailers with ETS 2.
your issue with the turning seems to be with how the game works with your joystick. You probably wouldn't have the same issues if you used as a wheel as it gives you a proper 1:1 ratio not the filtering that all games seem to do when using a controller or joystick
Squirrel, i love all your ideas man, i'd like the AI cars to behave differently, and maybe real time traffic updates, with like possible accidents, or truck spills and road work. Also I found a HDR graphical improvement mod, it really improves the graphics of everything and i can really tell the difference from my game to your vids, you should google it.
Enjoyed the rambling across Europe and your extended extemporising on open game design and mods. Your surprise at seeing multiple sports car trucks and the same Peterbilt tho - really? Games do it all the time - if a model is already loaded into memory its more efficient for the game to use that model rather than spawn a completely new one. GTA does it all the time - you see the car you are driving more commonly than others. It is annoying but programmatically understandable.
how can you turn with that speed 70 mph = ~ 115 kmh so if i go at 115 kmh and turn as quick as you even with the slightest turn of my wheel it allways tips over
Squirrel, never, and I mean NEVER, stop blue sky thinking. Your ideas, especially the real "thinking big" ideas, are so interesting and maybe my favorite part of your commentary!
Just to point out your speed when you enter those "Clovers" (The places you hit the barriers). The crossing wasn't the dartford crossing, it was the one crossing the medway near Rochester

Agree. Maybe the modder mixed up units. These Trucks are normally equipped with 2 tanks which hold 150 gallons each or 300 in total.
I like to play these videos in the background while I play this game myself. It just sounds like you're one of my employees talking to me through radio about your drive. About what kind of trucks you're getting, and your routes, issues you have. Just whatever is on your mind at the time.

They do have the slow lanes in the Appalachians and the Rocky Mountain passes. Some times around here in the mid west.
I'm less familiar with the Rockies.
here in montana, most roads are just two lanes so on large or steep hills an extra lane is added just for heavy loaded vehicles.
Your speeding! The max speed for a truck in the UK is 89km/h or 56mph
When you just drove past your planned stop without even noticing...ARGH!
I've worked in Java software development for over 13 years and you are very wrong. It's very easy to do and it's what they are doing with ArmA 3. Considering you went full speed almost all time its not surprising that the truck drank like crazy.
We have slow lanes in Canada but it's for everyone and the fast lanes no one uses them for what they're for.
Also, if you try to drive a real truck that fast into turns, the truck will go straight. That much weight will not turn going that fast. In fact, I just had a crash investigation where the same thing happened.
Are slow lanes (US) are on the far right obviously since we drive on the right of the road.

yes i think they should make all the simulators one game
The dartford crossing also can allow both directions through tunnels in bad weather or when accidents occur
Yes the US has slow lanes, a.k.a. Truck lanes. And many states have a special speed limit for trucks.
your right about the plain marked trailers in respect to the intermodel train containers and trailers unless said trailer had a stores name on it like Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

i liked this video just for u taking out that sign once you got to england
We do have slow lanes in the States, but ours are on the right.
Most gaming PCs have at least 4Gb of RAM now. I really don't see it as a problem.
That's a small tank on the peterbuilt... My dad drove one just like it. It held close to 600 us gal.
listen i have had many steering wheels, a good beginer is wheel is the loghitech g27 or the thrust master
in King of the road (old truck game) roads collapsed, got flooded, tunnels shut down etc. if they put that in the game it would much better. it is still good
I laughed when he passed up his rest stop on the A-7.
Squirrel, there a pretty good trailer mod called the baobab tree its quite big and weighs 58t works on 1.3.1
Oh yeh and from what it looks like, your truck is always slightly off to the right...just the way you're driving I think...if you look at the left mirrors you're quite a bit away from the line...not that it matters lol...just something i noticed

The gray car on the top front is a Cadillac
Check this Petey out Squirrel; sweet sound and she is running in.. you guessed it Europe. Looks almost like the one I'm driving- SWEET!

La Manche means the sleeve and it's the french for the english channel.
dartford crossing is always busy rush hour or not I used to live near there horrendous the traffic was.
They have slow lanes in america except it's on the far right side since we drive on the other side of the road.
Any chance you could do another U.S. truck? It's the 2012-2013 International Lonestar. The big noticeable thing that the truck has is a giant, chrome, 1920's/steampunk-styled grille on the hood/bonnet.
i ran out of fuel and i had steering wheel peddels h-shifter and put it in nutral and hoped for best
How do you put on the blinker
Dude, you're trying to turn at like 50mph around a tight corner in a massive truck its called understeer.
when a trailer is blank like that it usually has humans in there being exported to wherever you dont want to know
yes we do have slow lanes
Yeah we have them but Our slow lane for trucks is on the right not left out fast lane is left :/
They should add wildlife to this game, because in America we have to worry about deer, elk, and moose running out into the street. At least I do in Montana.
any help try a load the tsm 6.3 map mod and squirrels logistic skin pack would be much appreciated
I bet why you see all the sport cars on trailers is its right after the Nuremburg 24 hr race. And you just brought them back to the race shop.
Uh a truck will bounce like crazy when you mount a curb..
What joystick does he use? I know people have asked this before, but I cant find a response..
Tunnel sous la mange means tunnel under the channel
Squirrel you should try the Baobab Tree Tailer mod its a huge tree that weighs 58t works fine on 1.3.1 and with the other trailer mods aswell
so if you use a joystick for steering and all do you have like pedals or a shifter and clutch if you play in manual?... just wondering
Really enjoyed the video, thanks Squirrel.
Euro Truck Sim 2 is like GTA San Andreas because when you drive a car in San Andreas, your type of car seems to be what every single person is driving. Same with trailers with ETS 2.
You should do the scania STAX concept truck mod next.
squirrel i am thinking of buying this game with a steering wheel but i don't know which one to get can you send me a picture of one?
I don't think so, no

What about a mod that adds trailers and Caravans to cars?
How would it be to build a company with friends and do tons of stuff?
Manche is The English Channel. So Tunnel sur le Manche is 'Tunnel under the channel'
Btw in us there is fast slow lanes but whenever I see a truck in the fast lane it's in a accident
how can you turn with that speed 70 mph = ~ 115 kmh so if i go at 115 kmh and turn as quick as you even with the slightest turn of my wheel it allways tips over
At 28:43, the same Peterbilt, in green!
yea we have slow lines in alberta Canada and that peterbilt have 200 gallon tanks in us
Is this maxed out and what is your PC Specs?
how do u keep ur turns so smooth
Is there a demo of this??
Building a gaming rig tomorrow and this looks good
Normally this truck has a 131 gallon fuel tank, or about 495 liter fuel capacity. So there is probably something wrong with the script for the truck.
Squirrel there is a mod that turns a truck into a coach, i cant remember the truck though. But you should try it...
