Thanks for making these videos! SCS is trying to keep the finger on the pulse of our fan community; I have just spent half an hour of my vacation time sitting in a hotel room in Greece to watch this after all :-). Many good points made no doubt. If only life was so simple for us game developers servicing little genre niches as you think it is ;-). Ultimately, I hope that history will judge the steps we are taking now towards our grand vision as a valid strategy. Pavel, SCS Software.
This is why I love your youtube content soo much--awesome commentary. Your ideas for world trucking sim are great...Got me really excited to think about the potential you outlined. STS would indeed be passing up on a gold mine if they failed to do some of what you suggest (multiplayer meritocracy, weather, physics etc...) . Plus, I totally agree that they need to put a greater emphasis on variation and the "lived-in" factor you've alluded to... It's the random details and watching the game cope with completely unforeseen combinations and situations that makes suspending disbelief so so so easy, and thus, the experience so much more enjoyable. Really love your content, Squirrel. You do great work.
I think there should be a local multiplayer so that you could play with friends. I think it would be great starting a logistics company with your friends and family.
Oh yeah, definitely. But I wanted to see what would happen if I left it on the default probability. For me, the map sections should come with environmental parameters so the rain probability would be set to close to zero when in the desert.
Struggles up the hills can absolutely be attributed to auto trans. If it were a manual, a quick downshift to bring the revs between 2,000&2,500 and allow you up those hills. Seems like trans is too concerned with fuel econ (it's tendency to fly down hills and struggle up them supports this suspicion as well).

I do not like micro-transactions in the slightest. I'd rather pay for the base game + a season pass beforehand to get all future add-ons and DLCs. It makes things a little more black and white and I like it that way. Having a free game with micro transactions with item on top of item leaves a lot of grey space with "That looks neat, but what all does it do?" Since you don't own it, you do not know the potential and you either get over it and do what I do and endlessly ponder over it until you break down and buy it, and either love it or feel disgusted, whereas in a full game you either love it or go "meh" because it doesn't feel like much of a loss. It's a psychological thing that bug me a lot. Just my two cents.
Yes, but you know *exactly* what it would do. It would add more countries. Plus dlcs always say what they do before you buy them anyways. "Yes, microtransactions and dlc are the same thing, get over it"
All prices are governed by market forces, not things that people state they would pay. PC games will always be cheaper than console games simply because there are no platform development licensing, testing and deployment costs involved. Also, with Steam there are no production and distribution costs either. Finally, in the case of the PS4 there is also going to be fierce competition from the Xbone and that will keep a lid on prices.
I think that multiplayer is a great idea actually. I would probably have a company set up with me and my buddies and ancient olf kenworths and petes lol
No pulling power: I think it's because you only have the single rear axle. I asked my grandfather (the trucker) about some school buses I had seen in a brochure with dual rear axles, and I asked why they would do that (since I thought dual axles was to hold more weight). He said that in the mountains folks used buses like that because the second axle gave you lower gears. Apparently, the forward differential also acts like a transfer case, so the same transmission now offers more gear ranges.
16:00 That's because traffic from the right has priority when there are no traffic signs or road markings showing priority. Often there's a yield sign underneath those bridges. 22:20 The Netherlands have done a trial on that. Speed limits did not go up a lot. Averages (excluding truck traffic!) went up with sometimes only 0,5 km/h with a 10 km/h speed limit rise.
Ha, now that would be cool! One thing they need to work on is the physics and model of the trailers. They are far too simplified. Modders can make a massive trailer but they can't adjust the bounding box correctly and, to make matters worse, if they could then you would get stuck on almost every motorway slip road as you went under the bridge.
This is the cool thing i like about SCS Software, is that ETS2 is an individual team of people within SCS, and the new Coach Simulator is actually being made by a different team of people also within SCS. Every new game SCS comes out with is built by a new team that way each game doesn't interfere with the other games being developed. So WoTr will also be made by a different group of people within SCS.
You're right about Australia having great long strips of straight road, Eyre Highway goes from Western Aus to South Aus for 1,675 Km, not a bend for ages.
There is a strange addiction of me towards all of your Euro Truck Simulator 2... I feel peaceful and happy when I watch your video, even though it looked really boring from any perspectives... I love Euro Truck Simulator 2!
i loved everything about world truck sim you were talking about, but what if they also added a radio system where if you are within a certain proximity of someone you can talk to them via a mic. then if you are both going the same direction as they are you can have a proper conversation with the person, then you guys could swap a certain kind of number and you could talk to eachother whenever you would like.
Some other ideas: I'm not sure about Europe, but in the US, there are scales when you cross state lines. (fines for overweight, etc.), also they should have more pedestrians and even actual cops pulling you over for speeding offenses, equipment, etc. There's so much that could be added to this game. Really enjoy the videos. Keep them coming!
OK not literally everyone, but I'm fairly sure most people would rather SCS pour their resources into making a multi-player World Truck Simulator than making a coach driving game. That was the point I was trying to make.
With multiplayer should come an ingame multiplayer voice chat where you can mute people or even have private voice chat rooms in multiplayer. The multiplayer server system should work like Team fortress 2's once, except that the grading system will filter out any servers with grade groups different to yours by a lot.
I agree with your points Paul. I would even suggest to include the Coach simulator into the "World Truck" simulator engine. Who knows, one day there may be an MMPO World Simulator engine that caters for Truck, Train, Coach, Flight, etc, sim. Combine this and the oculus rift and steering wheel/pedal for a totally immersive experience.
Squirrel they set it because Carroll Shelby built the Cobra and one of the variants in the 60's did 160mph-200mph don't remember the exacted speed but that is why there is a speed limit in the M1 at least....not sure what all the roads are called in the UK i'm in Texas so it is a pretty big difference.
In the US, we base our speed limits off of how populated the road is, no matter how many lanes(carriageways) there are. In K/mh, we do from 100 to 120 on the highways or tollways down to 45-60 K/mh in highly populated areas. In MPH its 55-75 on highways down to 25 MPH on urban roads.
Most cars in Australia can reach upwards of 200km/h (120mph). Even the 4-cylinder in-lines have top speeds of 240km/h (150mph). Parkways (dual-carriage ways) have speed limits of 100km/h (62mph), highways are the same. Motorways, depending on whether their 3 or 4, some times 5 lanes going both ways, vary between 110 to 140 km/h (69 to 87mph). Then there's the few roads in South Australia, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia that have NO speed limit what so ever.
Change trucks for more variety. Guage the differance on slopes & what not, pulling power ect. I live in Australia and the roads are beautiful out here. You see some great trucks on the road and i'd love to see them in a game.
I like your ideas, 16:47 I think that SCS should start by scraping the coach sim, start working on multi-player systems, plow more development into ETS2, release the new US truck sim and make it possible to merge the two games together. That would be cool. 29:27 Remember this is the desert, the oil is a few yards down the road so no import costs.
A lot of great ideas Paul. And you're right. SCS have a gold mine on their hands. Mult-player is the way to go. I live in the USA, (California), and I think it's the idea of being able to feel like you've traveling the globe that attracts people to the ETS game. Although not really accurate as far as scenery etc. but very enjoyable. Keep the videos coming. From a dedicated fan...
And also if you use a manual gearbox it will help you to get up hills a lot quicker cause the auto gearbox always puts it in the wrong gear to go up a hill. YOU'RE THE BEST SQUIRREL!!!!!!!!
& quarries, add Farms, Docks, Airports as delivery/pickup points. Not sure if mods are out, but tandem trucks, recovery trucks, situations you find to make it more realistic, i love watching your vids, keep it up mate
Also they could have truck insurance in the multiplayer. You pay some money so if you crash you can get your truck fixed for free. If you drive without crashes or impact, the money you pay goes down and the penalty in game for collisions go down.
If they put up Canada then you shoud be able to use snow chains and own a logging company. Same thing for the snow chains if they added the artic you could have like a ice road truckers theme where your heater goes out or if your in the desert and the ac goes out when you crash. small things like that, add wild life have a moose in the road or cattle but make some of the options able to be disabled lit the person choose the level of relistic things they want
I explained the concept in my video - one game and charge for DLC extensions to map areas. That plus lots of micro transactions for new trucks and customisations... they will be pretty far from bankrupt.
The answer to your speed limit question is here in the United States it really depends on what state you live in. Example is as for Pennsylvania where I live the speed limits are way old. I live near the West Virginia state line and their speed limits are higher.
Another possible idea if it hasn't been mentioned already, maybe add truck stops or road stops, even garages where you can meet with your friends and as you mentioned before, have a co driver so instead of having stops to rest all the time you can have your friend do the driving while you can complete the job together.
At 13:36 you could also have someone join as a tow truck driver (and have the tow truck as a DLC) and if a troll hits one of your trucks you can send him out and have him tow you back to headquarters and not charge any of the trucker's money.
Very intelligent and well thought out ideas for the game. If gaming companies thought things out like you do the gaming community would be a better and happier place. Dead on for the multiplayer ideas, the only one I would add is two "drivers" in a cab. When you get tired the other driver can take over while you rest up and the truck can continue on its way. That's how tandem teams make money. Just a thought.
Interesting about the speed limits in the UK. In the US its generally 35 in the city, 55 on any other unmarked road. Posted limits vary on highways depending on the state, generally 70 is the limit in the eastern states and 75 in the western.
I totally agree with you, I live in Australia and I've always want to drive and Australian Kenworth or Western Star transporting a B Double, a B Triple or a Road Train.
I would like to see in world truck sim loading and unloading tipping trailers go pick up your trailer then go get the cargo and C.B radios in the truck so you can speak to multiplayers within a certain distance and your crew so you can check in with them like you said the game is endless to what you can do love your vids keep up the good work
Multiplayer with a co-driver would be interesting. Imagine long runs where you can swap places while one driver rests. Another scenario I could picture would be an event with a company needing to have a number of cargo pieces delivered in a short time, where you would have multiple drivers create a convoy for extra xp. I think finding these ideas for ways to make the multiplayer interesting is the biggest impediment.
Squirrell -- I think it's an AWESOME idea to have a 'World" Truck simulator. I so agree that's what they should be doing and it definitely would be a Win, Win, Win situation for All. Let's hope they snap to their senses and give you a call Mate! Great video's I've just subscribed and like You Mr Squirrell. Cheers
Your ideas are brilliant!! I would love multiplayer in a world truck simulator. Just imagine driving on them skinny dirt roads in the mountains and you meet another online player i think it would be fun working together to get passed each other
I must say, I like the MAN's interior. Like the windows. Clean design. And I think I like it over my Volvo FH Globetrotter XL with the highest HP engine in the game. Also, Squirrel, I can't wait to see how you deal with those 10 or so hairpin turns(that you'll probably hit in the next video). I HATE this stretch of road in Africa. Lastly, my Volvo FH Globetrotter XL even barely could handle hills. Had to switch to sequential to get up them better.
I think it would be cool if they could connect the game to music playlists/queues from google play, spotify, *insert favorite music service here* or whatever. Even randomizing off of a hard drive would pretty cool. Maybe even to a favorite podcast.
I have a few ideas too, but id stick with MAN truck and do full delivery with the truck you started it with. Future vids id like to see what the Aldi parking lot down the ramp is like :) Ideas for world truck sim, your idea of segmenting countries is spot on, start with a basic add a country when they have modelled it. Id like to see some smaller towns/villages to deliver too & 1 lane country roads similar to Scania truck driving sim, also more variation on companies instead of just warehouses
Added post: I also think they should add in the garage the ability to remove the Speed Governor from the motor than using a Mod to do it...as most mods don't even do it. Heck charge for it. Put up a warning stating if you do that...shoot make it to where you do a lot of wear on the Engine if you do that. Yet really you are taking the risk just to get around faster.
yeah in real life loads like that go trough carefully planned routes Anyway, i just wonder, if all clocks on a server are in sync, then you would have to wait the full resting period before you can carry on (no fast forward time). if they are not, there is a chance people will meet on the same road at different times of the day which seems akward to me. the easiest solution would be to remove the resting requirement, but i quite like having to rest after a certain period of time, its realistic.
SCS Should also add 'country roads' to every single continent they would possibly make. So you could either choose to drive on the tarmac for 1,000km or go by dirt / gravel roads and travel 500km for example. But gravel/dirt roads should be a bit more dangerous to the truck since there could be a bunch of holes at the roads and such, and if you would hit one hole on a great speed then it might damage your tires and so on.
hey squirrels i totally agree with you and i really really hope that they are watching your videos because you have some really good points and if you can get in contact with SCS there games can improve alot well thank you for reading see you guys next video
The way your truck is set up with one axle and not two makes your power suffer. You need more differential axles in a two wheel rear tractor then you do in one. Your gear box is over compensating and reduceing you power output. Hope that helps you next time you buy your next truck.
From Real Life Experience if you are heading up hill it better to start 20 or 30mph and then it will build up the speed because the truck will start to changing automatically the gears and this slows down you the most you are lucky the truck want stop on the middle of the hill :D
At 15:58 the grey car almost hit you... They won't stop since they have right of way. It's missing the upside down triangle sign. So you should be the one who gives way... since they are coming from your right. Right?
As much as i love the MAN trucks, the one you have there is or appears to be gutless so change to an Iveco. Your idea of buying separate DLC's to upgrade this game into world truck sim sounds like a sure way for SCS to get funding to develop it even further. Australia would be frikkin awsome. I am slightly dissapointed that while your taking us around Africa, we haven't yet seen a wild animal or one of our dark skinned cousins. Cant wait for the next part. Keep on trucking.
really needs a line of code that when cars are going a specific speed they create wind around them and it makes your cabin shake when you cross the path of other big trucks.
Oh man multiplayer. Could have all the friends driving for one company and you could take ''special deliveries'' that you have to within same timetable to deliver 2 or more trailers, you could have some epic convoys.
Dedicated servers would be nice, like Battlefield where the owner can set and enforce rules. Then you could find a good group of people to drive with. Server owners could also set limits on various things like in cab only driving or pretty much whatever. They could also set it to load certain mods on the servers adding more replay value over time.
Place the .scs file in to your "mods" folder found in My Documents then Euro Truck Simulator 2. Then start the game and click "Edit" where your profile is and add the new mods (You can click add all) or, you could start a new profile and it'll automatically add them all in.
I'm with you on the world truck sim modular idea Squirrel but I can't see how multiplayer in a truck sim will work - truck driving is a solitary occupation - how will the massive work of creating multiplayer add value? Its not Dayz where multiplayer is everything. I can see tables for earnings, mileage etc but really, its driving the trucks that's key to the game and its hard to see how multiplayer will add anything to that at all.
If they did all the things you've mentioned and kept the quality the same or better... honestly I would probably drop some serious coin on this- which is something I have never said about a game before. Hell, I have already spent more time playing and looking for mods for ETS2 than for any other game I've played or play. The thought of it becoming a... well alternate life/ career is kind of an exciting idea.
One thing I've been looking for is a drivable car mod for ETS2. Unfortunately, I still haven't found one. It would be great if SCS were to bring at least a small option to do so into their games. I know it's a truck simulator, not an "Aimlessly Drive Across Europe!" simulator. Still, World Truck Simulator is definitely something I'm looking forward to hearing more about.
Yes, fuel prices are that in N.Africa.... In Libya you can fill up a car's tank for £2.00. BTW, enjoy you wittering on about anything and everything - great! :)
I wish SCS would work on multiplayer for Euro Truck. I know it might be difficult as they said but if they can manage to do that, it will make this game even better and bring more life into the environment with real people trucking alongside you.
It would be fun to be able to do trips to realistic customers. Ingersoll-Rand in Mocksville, North Carolina, with their tight-fit bays for loading compressors and light plants. The headaches of trying to navigate Laredo, Texas with all of the dangerous driving Mexican trucks. Or driving the loop around Atlanta, Georgia during rush hour.
I would love it if this game went international. I'm from India and would love to drive on the narrow Himalyan roads. The issue of multiplayer and people crashing into you could be unintentional as well and should be dealt with like in reality with fines and insurance. Honestly if I was a billionaire I would invest in this game and try to build it to its full potential. Great vids, keep it up. Cheers.
I think your idea of how to make multiplayer and the World game is very cool. I play ETS2 and agree that multiplayer should be added, playing alone can be boring at times.
I drive the man GTX and let me tell you. It's very powerful truck. The problem with your truck is the gearing. I never drive automatic especially when im having a trailer. The truck cannot shift appropriate gears to deliver all the power. I suggest you use manual. Always use low gears when climbing and high gears when speeding.
Yes, Please change the truck. Do you think that the mods for the Timber TGX truck with trailer, available from ets2.lt in the trucks section. The reason is that it is a really interesting truck, and then you can see what challenges it will take you to load you up.
i want the option to build your truck from the ground up like SLRR (Street Legal Racing Redline) also have a second truck for Motorsport like circuit racing or drifting but you can do both or start in one and work your way up the ladder
World Truck suggestion: Driving on the Ice roads of the winter in Canada and Alaska, where you have to be careful not getting on the thin ice and stuff, that would be a decent adventrue i guess.
ETS 2 Multiplayer Idea: Utility trucks players can drive , and when somebody get's wrecked in the middle of nowhere , they can call the nearest Utility Truck , The utility truck driver will fix the truck and get a percentage of the repair price!
squirrel, I think that you should get a team of subscribers together and make a trucking sim. A small one (tech demo). and impliment your ideas into it. send the game to SCS to show them what we want in world trucking sim! Love the videos, keep up the fantastic work!
hi just watched your video very entertaining as usual, you mentioned the speed limits in the UK. I can't remember all of the figures and facts, but at one time there was no speed limit on motorways. Then I think it was Jaguar brought out the e-type Jag, I think it was roughly 2 o'clock in the morning and they test drove it down one of the M road's and got 120 mph out of it . Then I think it was the Daily Mail said it was scandalous speeds so the government reduced it to our national speed limit, on one of the programs from top gear it did mention all of the facts,
Thanks for making these videos! SCS is trying to keep the finger on the pulse of our fan community; I have just spent half an hour of my vacation time sitting in a hotel room in Greece to watch this after all :-). this was a while back lol, there games have changed tremendously and it is amazing

On the last video people said I should switch trucks though. This is a research profile so it doesn't have to follow the normal rules =)
I wish that they added a thing where you see an broken down truck and you can help it by having a tow beem
For me, it has to be something that brings realism where it's needed most, so for me that's Realistic Physics.
I think that having a multiplayer server like that is the best idea i have heard!
Oh yeah, definitely. But I wanted to see what would happen if I left it on the default probability. For me, the map sections should come with environmental parameters so the rain probability would be set to close to zero when in the desert.
Microtransactions? Uh.... (drops a nuclear bomb on microtransactions).

14:30 Nice, the lights turn off
Richárd Gonda nevah
key points to "fix" if a global edition is to be developed:
collision physics[ets2mp stuff is just hillarious],
weather and effects[wind pushing you around, rain, snow, icing affecting traction and battery status, ability to set real weather]
correct tyre traction modeling,
routing with respect to load[not all cargo can steer a 90 degree turn]
wear and tear would be nice(truck getting old) [battery charge drain over time(good reason to use TriPac), fluids, tyre pressure/wear] stuff like visible damage when crashing, burned lamps preriodicaly, maybe a cracked winshield once or twice
Multiplayer both for internet and lan (with internal voice comms[CB]).
it is called a simulator after all
cops and traffic stops would be nice. or at least workers on construction site with roads. As well as wear and tear to you vehicle. this would include tires and engine over time.
Radical gaara wear and tear is already implemented, as your truck slowly gets damaged. (this is in ets2 im talking about)
nice ty
Radical gaara np. You can even turn it off in the gameplay settings!
the last update or upcoming one?
Radical gaara It's been on there for a LONG time! I'm even able to do it on the steam demo!
LOL. A border crossing? Looked like a motel to me :D

micro transactions are the scum of the earth and should not be featured in ANY game
Matt James you have a point but smaller game devs would never make enough money without them

You should be a developer or tester for SCS! Your ideas are top-notch and you can make our voices heard!
And the long road at 12:00 they do have them in Australia especially the Stuart highway which goes for about 3000km
& quarries, add Farms, Docks, Airports as delivery/pickup points. Not sure if mods are out, but tandem trucks, recovery trucks, situations you find to make it more realistic, i love watching your vids, keep it up mate
a four lane expressway in the US (two lanes on each side) is 75 mph i believe and a two lane road is 80 mph
I totally agree with you, I live in Australia and I've always want to drive and Australian Kenworth or Western Star transporting a B Double, a B Triple or a Road Train.
if you notice on the engine spec, it states 3000Nm @ 1000-1300rpm.
Do you mean Pavel Sebor? Get him to let me have a go around the Scania DemoCentre like he did recently!
Anyway, yhanks for your support bud :)
Iveco
BTW, Cuba is an isolated island...hard trucking the 90 miles of open water between Miami and Cuba :)
When your backing up you can use your hazard lights to help
yeah in real life loads like that go trough carefully planned routes
Anyway, i just wonder,
if all clocks on a server are in sync, then you would have to wait the full resting period before you can carry on (no fast forward time).
if they are not, there is a chance people will meet on the same road at different times of the day which seems akward to me.
the easiest solution would be to remove the resting requirement, but i quite like having to rest after a certain period of time, its realistic.
SCS Should also add 'country roads' to every single continent they would possibly make. So you could either choose to drive on the tarmac for 1,000km or go by dirt / gravel roads and travel 500km for example. But gravel/dirt roads should be a bit more dangerous to the truck since there could be a bunch of holes at the roads and such, and if you would hit one hole on a great speed then it might damage your tires and so on.
in australia the motorway speed limit is usually 100 to 110
hey squirrels i totally agree with you and i really really hope that they are watching your videos because you have some really good points and if you can get in contact with SCS there games can improve alot well thank you for reading see you guys next video
The way your truck is set up with one axle and not two makes your power suffer. You need more differential axles in a two wheel rear tractor then you do in one. Your gear box is over compensating and reduceing you power output. Hope that helps you next time you buy your next truck.
Squirrel I wish you were the lead developer of "World Truck Simulator " all your ideas are spot on!
i love your multiplayer ideas for World Truck Sim. especially the up/down voting idea to which i can find no fult in knowage
I sent them a tweet. You just need to re-tweet that :D
From Real Life Experience if you are heading up hill it better to start 20 or 30mph and then it will build up the speed because the truck will start to changing automatically the gears and this slows down you the most you are lucky the truck want stop on the middle of the hill :D
here in western ny we went from 55mph all my life to 65mph in the late 90's. What a difference. I'm surprised its taken Britain so long.
At 15:58 the grey car almost hit you... They won't stop since they have right of way. It's missing the upside down triangle sign. So you should be the one who gives way... since they are coming from your right. Right?
Squrriel, imagine overheating the truck in a hot country? Or the windows crack in the cold on bumps, scratches to the truck. Damage! Just imagine!
On the interstate in america the speed limit is like 75 mph and that's a 6 lane road.
Coop will be allsome and having competition loads that are only there for a limited time and only one person will be able to get it.
Iveco, and yes that bridge does exist its the Beni haroun Bridge in Algeria
I love your videos Squirrel ! Keep it coming! Continue the MAN truck . I suggest changing trucks when u finish deliveries. And turn one tour BEACONS !
Squirrel, manual shift is needed in most areas. so go with it next time you go on a long journey
Those are some really brilliant ideas which i would really love to be put into the game.
hi just watched your video very entertaining as usual, you mentioned the speed limits in the UK.
