Every time I see anything WAP related all I can think of is that Monique “Is this who we are???” clip and you actually used it in the video 😂 I had to subscribe. Very interesting point about white artists being able to jump in and out of hypersexuality and not having that become their whole brand. She isn’t a rapper, but the only black female artist I can think of who mainstream audiences accept as overtly sexual sometimes and vulnerable other times is Beyoncé. Even then the way she expresses her sexuality fits into the “baddie” mold. It seems like the only way people will embrace a woman owning her sexuality is if she does it in a way that still titillates men. Janelle Monae has made music exploring her sexuality, but she’s never brought up in conversations about “sexual empowerment” because she centers her experience and not the male gaze. Also who was talking at 3:39? She made a great point and I would love to see the rest of her interview.
Haha! The Monique clip was PERFECT for this video! Thank you for subscribing and welcome ❤️ Beyoncé is a great example of a Black woman who is allowed to do both! Jaguar Wright was the woman talking, I do t agree with her on everything but on this topic she was spot on! If you search “Jaguar Wright + female rap” you should find the clip 😉
I LOVED this analysis! These were all things that I've been thinking about as I've gotten more interested in more hip-hop/rap music, but as a white woman from New Zealand I was wondering if I was missing some cultural context. Its tiring seeing the only criticism of the hypersexuality of female rap coming from thinly veiled racist and misogynistic takes instead of looking at how the music industry basically forces these women into these hypersexual personas in order to succeed. Thank you for introducing me to some lesser known female artists too

Bc icy girl had no foul, vulgar language or cussin and that’s her best song. Sometimes an artist is just shit and there was def a bigger budget for wap then there was for be careful but that just poses the question of why and it all goes back to black women ( NOT CARDI B who is a Mexican) cannot be soft and cute and make a hit they have to be nasty and vulgar just like you said. Great video! It’s so true that women of color are objectified in the public eye and that is done for a reason. I commented on your quiet luxury video about how American Indian towns, empires and kingdoms were destroyed and the people put into slavery. The rulers of those kingdoms were women. Google “emblem of America” or look at any old paintings and drawings of Americans from the 1400-1700s and you’ll see Indian queens ruling over her tribes and empires. The people who run the music industry know exactly who we are and are desperate to keep us from knowing the truth. So they hyper sexualize us to keep us in a low vibration, so we can’t elevate and be the rulers over everyone again.
They want Black women to be degraded, disrespected and only seen as sex objects in the general public, and it works, the more and more the industry pushes the vulgar and oversexualized image of bw, the more bw will be shamed and devalued.. also those women are complete sellouts! An don't care.

Fantastic video! I am curious if anyone has listened to Cardi's "Be Careful" song recently? I felt like the production quality of that song compared to the rest of the album was not as good to listen too. My paranoid brain got to thinking what if the song was produced poorly ( by a party outside of the artist knowledge) to make sure it didnt do well 🤔. Every other song on the album has this level of richness to the audio and seems balanced well, but the Be careful track( at least to me) felt like the background beats & Her voice were subtly fighting for dominance... its a weird thing to explain.

Nick can really rap her ass off when she wants to, but she too is a slave to the game. She had to play into that angle to become famous, though she kept it clean enough for more lyrical creativity.
Honestly, it is about time for them to think more carefully about their career and what label do they want to work under. They need to start thinking about planning ahead. For example, do they ever think about how to change their image or people's perception of them? Even though Cardi B tried, she failed to change people's perception of her because she lost the advantage of first impression the moment she is being sexualized in her first song. It will take a least 2 or more albums for her to succeed. One thing that they can try is to save money and use their money to open their own label that they have more control over their own career. As a long time K-Pop fan of BLACKPINK, when I heard that 2 of their members confirmed that they are 2 CEO of their own music label that they just open recently, I was surprised and happy for them because this is something that you rarely heard of that is being done by women in South Korea. They did it because they more creative control over their career while keeping their group contract under their first label, YG Entertainment. I'm not saying that western female rappers have do the same thing as them, but it is something that they can try to do.
