  • Is thin back in or has thin ALWAYS been in? Is skinny making a comeback or did skinny never leave? Following The Kardashian’s recent weight loss, many have declared that “thin is in” and the BBL epidemic is over. This video explores how thinness is not a new body trend and has always been the beauty standard and how 90’s and 2000’s media such as children and teen shows pushed thinness and diet culture.

Thick = Attractive but with more niche appeal, Drawback is its the most preferred among working/lower class men
Thin = Attractive but with more universal appeal, most preferred among upper middle class and upper society men on avergaev. As a drawback you’ll shamed by some people trying to make you feel like less of a woman

It’s weird how bodies become trends. But being skinny wasn’t ever a trend it was always a standard that people expected women to strive for. It’s so depressing. I hope everyone who has had an awful experience/s regarding their weight, that we all heal and are able to move forward one day at a time💖

The only animated movie I’ve seen where the woman has a somewhat normal human body was lilos big sister off of lilo and stitch, even though they still made her waist real tiny.

Yess!! The ideal of being thin has been shoved down our throat since childhood. It has always been the standard and always will be.

What always bothered me too was how they dresses Demi in camp rock. Everyone has normal clothes and they gave her ugly boxy draping clothes. That always stuck in my head.

I grew up in the late 80's and grew up with the same shows. I was always heavy, my whole life even though the rest of the family was thin. Whenever people fat shamed me, it just made me want to eat even more making me even bigger. Fat shaming does not work, it only makes things far worst.

another thing, villains are usually plus sized. look at ursula. not only was she plus sized but she was based off a drag queen (i can’t remember which) and was the villain of the story

She looked like, and had the attitude of, my grammie. My grammie was larger than life and very luxurious. I (obviously) loved Ursula and always saw that body type (my grammie/mums) those voluptuous bodies, as elegant and opulent. My mum is a real matriarch when it comes to self image. My baby cousin was given a Cinderella costume and tiara, and she asked my mum where her blonde hair was…my mum said “you don’t have to have blonde hair to be a princess”🖤 she also told me “I love you because of who you are, not what you do” shes so full of wisdom, just goes to show, you can play with Barbie’s abd watch Disney movies all day if you have the right adults in your corner, raising you with solid values.

I mean thin is better than being overweight.

    • @shellykozun3813
      @shellykozun3813 Месяц назад +4

Not always. Someone who is slightly overweight can be healthier than someone who’s thin because they’re only eating junk foods or starving themselves.

    • @catnublia
      @catnublia 19 дней назад +1

This is factually in coreect. Being underweight is incredibly dangerous and associated with premature death, develolment of metabolic and autoimmune disorders that can become hereditary, and poor mental and emotional wellbeing. While being obese is not healthy and is recognised as a metabolic disease, having a bit of extra weight is different. A bit of extra weight or a healthy amount of body fat is asscoaited with longer life expenctancies, people with spare body fat survive stressful events like famine or illness better, and elder patients who have a bit of extra body fat recover from strokes and heart atyacks better than underweight elders, because the body has extra enegry to recover with. Being underweight is, in many ways, categoeically more dangerous than being overwight.

Tw: discussion of eating disorders (EDs)
The especially sinister thing about the ED storylines that every other 90s show had was that it was always a thin character who developed said ED, only to recover by the end of the episode after being reassured that they weren't fat.
Which is messed up in two ways; one, ED are not that easy to recover from. Just the urges and thoughts alone are something many people struggle with their entire lives.
Second, the implication is that if the characters WERE fat, then there wouldn't be anything wrong with their behaviour. Which sadly, mimics real life. Behaviours that get thin people flagged for EDs are praised and encouraged in fat people, even by health care providers themselves. Things like obsessively counting calories, restricting calorie intake, excessive exercise, etc are all signs of an eating disorder. But one body type gets help for their condition, while the other is encouraged to continue harming themselves.
Thank you again for talking about this. Really appreciate you and your content.

Ha! They were not fat! The camera does add 10 lbs! That is true! (Performer.) And besides Liz and Marilyn were actresses in the 50s and 60s..50 plus years ago! Since then we have had Twiggy then heroin chic in the 90s..so yeah, you have to go back to the 50s and very early 60s (like 60-61) to find actresses that were average sized.

If you look at movie stills (not marketing material from decades later) Snow was a slim girl who wasn’t thick by any means, but she was definitely never skinny in any scene, did not have a snatched waist or a waist-snatching corset dress and she had a quite small chest
Jasmine definitely isn’t “fair” either. Fair is the healthy looking version of “pale”

Casting agents in 2000-10, viewed sizes 0-3 as the desired size for women actors, if you were size 6 or (gasp) 8 that was pushing it to be cast in any role that was not considered schlumpy.

Exactly why I won’t post on INSTAGRAM bc I’m thin without trying no kidding) I’m not 20 either) I’m tbh 60 something actually 64 yrs young. But to these young girls I’d be a virtual old lady ready to check in to a nursing home! Helllll nooooo! I hate and feel sad how much women+ girls are both skinny and fat shammed! Sometimes,it’s truly genetics,as with me let’s go there , my family ex mum who was petite …are all tall and thin. Built. bodies. I have no children myself by choice but my animals.Though this crap about FOOD IS YOUR ENEMY well, I believe as I was raised food is just that. Only . That. What you eat when you’re hungry and drink when you are thirsty, I grew up ah the head of the itty bitty titty, committee “ came home in tears. Then I looked in British Vogue, seeing models built similar to me
Then I didn’t feel that bad after all, no I was never modelling ….that scared me,that life” I read about it.
Anyways I never had curves” except in my spine!
    Therein lay my curves …..
I was born earlier in 1961 I looked up to women I never knew but heard of but mum and Dad loved
Vivien Leigh British actress OF GONE WITH THE WIND SUCH A BRILLIANT ACTRESS PETITE a BEAUTY
Of course the Beautiful Marilyn Monroe though she died when I was young.was it when I was 3?
So when I was a teen my role model and INSPO was Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac my style was bohemian chic.
It’s still like that I’m not trendy.
Never smoked a Ciggies a day in life
I can out eat some bfs I’ve had I’ve had jealous women friends though every women yes yes even I do have the digest & rest”
Also water retention syndrome and bloating from Miss 💩💩
You end up I feel no matter how hard you try
    Where you are ,
    Meant to be in life.
Finally get weighed properly at your Drs
    Kick the scales ladies!❤
