A lot of Nicki's songs have co-writers listed on them and not just the hooks if you actually look it up that's not writing everything not saying she isn't talented but she definitely has co-writers help her like a lot of other rappers these days.

Actually, Nicki has never used a ghost writer...also The reason the new prominent female rappers like Megan, Cardi, City Girls, Asian Doll, etc. are all so similar is because they are all influenced by Nicki Minaj and their labels are trying to mold them into the next Nicki. This video should have focused more on Nicki Minaj's impact on the new generation of women, hyper sexualization, the push for mainstream/cross over appeal, and Lyricism. Diversity in female rap is definitely needed though.
DrOTH it’s popular to downplay her impact on the current state of female rap because people wanna focus on the 2 wigs she wore that were similar to Kim and credit everything Nicki did to Kim. The funny thing is that people wanna skip her impact and their story doesn’t add up.

As far as I’m concerned lil Kim was never animated, Kim never had personas or at least used them in her craft, Kim was never theatrical, Kim never sang, Kim relied on the heavy tongued 90s flow which isn’t the case with Nicki, Kim never switched 5 flows in 1 song, Word play is totally different and use of literature too. Kim wore wigs, Nicki had lacefronts if anything each colour represents personas and it’s synonymous with her craft of which Kim rocked them for the heck of it.
Kim was a fashion icon yes, Nicki was camp hence the outrageous clothing that represented Roman.
It’s like Katy Perry and Gaga, Katy had colourful wigs for fun and Gaga rocked them to represent her work.

We compare all rappers. Women should not be exempt. The bottom line is that they should not be judged exclusively for being women. This video highlights the fact tha we treat them differently but shouldn't. Not comparing them would be treating them differently.
I miss Lauryn Hill!!... So skilled, I can't imagine anyone questioning her ability. It means so much more that she did it based on her talent/hard work without having to rely on over sexualizing her obvious, natural beauty or her lyrics/videos.

As an immigrant to this country and growing up here in the 90s, hip hop especially women hip hop artists was so influential to me. For 15 years, I followed underground hip hop. Now 30 years old, hip hop feels so washed up even the women artists out, they feel so similar and I try to find positives about it but it feels very repetitive now.
Well Lauren Hill, Erikah Badou, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Charlie Baltimore, Lady Of Rage, Remy Ma, Nicky Minaj, And Eve are all great spitters

The problem with female rappers is its obvious that labels are using them to try and finesse our money. Its like when hollywood takes a movie you already love, remake it, and cast the roles as all females as a way to finesses our money, instead of creating new interesting movies we would be happy to pay for. I've already seen this movie with better actors, why would i pay for a downgraded version of the same thing? Same with female rappers. The music industry had a problem, ppl think rap is boring and repetitive. Instead of saying "Lets find some interesting, talented artists to add to the roster" they said "instead of improving, lets just do the same boring, repetitive music but lets have women rap it instead of men". Its lazy and obviously a clear rip off of our money. And on top of all that they are fake. None of the shit they rap is true, they are just reading scripts handed to them and its obvious.

Although there is definitely sexism in the music industry, in the pop music industry, an average of 75% of all number one hits has a female artist featured on it.
It's hard for female rap to be diverse when all the popular female rappers are all hyper-sexualized female rappers.

Female rappers complain that its too hard to compete with male rappers, giving the excuse that the male rappers set the bar way too damn high for them and they get treated with different standards just because they're a different gender. The reality is that, the competition among male rappers alone is insanely tough and cutthroat nowadays and even senior and highly successful male rappers as well as the hip hop community as a whole are absolutely critical on the rise and existence of mediocre new generation male rappers who do mumble rap and just rap for money and clout with no actual substance. New male rappers actually face more ridiculous pressure to succeed due to the number of competition whereas female rappers hardly have a competition among themselves. For a female rapper, if you can at least achieve Nicki's level of skill and popularity, you're already better than most new generation male rappers today.

I think where you fell off in his video was failing to aknowledge that in the 2010s era, Nicki was the blue(pink)print and every labor wanted their own international crossover hyper sexual female rapper. Well growing up listening t to rap , rap was all about the struggle and than the joy of leading the good life both male and female rapped that way , but the thing with CURRENT female rappers is that every damn song is about their body and the ways in which they would like to have sex and that after a point becomes boring and frankly irritating
My thing is that I want rappers to bar up consistently. It doesn't need to be constant, but I like knowing my favorites have that good ass pen game be they male or female. I want to love the ladies of hip-hop for their skill with writing and/or freestyling, not just their looks. I want to respect them for having a message other than "I look good so come get this good" because at the end of the day, a flash in the pan is going to fade away, but a true flame will be hard to extinguish. That's just my take on it though.
