Exactly. Water seeks its own level and for a lot of these women, the man that they date would be the type to foot the bills and take care of all the financial matters.
But it’s not a big deal if they break up because they both know she has a safety net to fall back on and a support system to lean on as well.

For even buying a Shampoo or a Facecream you will have to ask money from your partner. Even a packet of chips. It's like being a kid all over again. Except this time you are not asking money from your parents, you are asking from your partner. I don't know I just don't find that attractive. I can understand married stay at home moms, because often it becomes difficult to give time to your children and work full time. But this Stay at home girlfriend just doesn't sounds right.

This will also allow you to see their true intent and love. Adding a clause if either one cheats, 1/2 of theirs is split. I agree, although relying solely on a partner and having kids in the picture is way more dangerous. It will be a lot easier for that single gf to pick herself up and get back on her feet. But a mom with kids, getting a job, holding the job, finding suitable housing, court custody costs, etc. everything gets way worse. Alimony is about as common as hens teeth these days it seems, so hopefully there is a good prenup.

I'm not sure if people watching know the term "displaced housewives." They were women who stayed home and took care of the house and children, but when their husbands lost their job, died, or divorced them, they found themselves with no marketable skills. A few went back to school or took courses to help them find a job, but most didn't get good enough jobs to support themselves.

  • @GM-wn3sh

Men in general don't treat women very well. They say they want equality etc but when they get married and start having kids it ends up being her doing %80 of the work at home regardless of who makes more money. That's a statistical fact here in North America. Obvioulsy it's important to have your own income or at least a nest egg and skills to fall back on when things don't work out, but I personally don't see the point of becoming a mother (who almost always ends up being the primary parent) if I also have the stress of a 9-5 job- while he just has a 9-5 job and helps out when he happens to be in the mood ,but is generally useless and has the audactity to compalin about not getting his dick touched (most fathers in North America today). Any man can and will disappoint you. I would rather be disappointed by a man by can who can and does provide for me than one who cannot/ does not.

I have never heard of the "stay at home girlfriend" trend but I am doing it... right now. Three weeks ago I left my job due to feeling burnt out and unenthused about it. I'm 23 and haven't stopped working/studying since graduating high school. I made a pledge to my boyfriend to maintain the household and cook meals for him if I'm not working, do his laundry etc. In my opinion, if I am choosing not to work to earn an income, I should be making the most of household duties. I don't want to be caught sitting on my butt at home not contributing in ANY WAY!
This is a short term plan however, I intend to begin studying in July to become a kindergarten teacher. Which will hopefully be my career for many years to come.

Even then I’d watch her spending all day ironing and polishing pointless inanimate ornaments and polishing the brasses with brasso that took hours and they had no use we had a gas fire😂 and constantly washing and pressing the already clean curtains and scrubbing pans and washing the kitchen floor 5 times a day. House had to be spotless Just in case she got a visitor but they didn’t visit each other they were all cleaning their houses in case they got a visitor.used to just think just why? . The mums would meet at the school gate and compete for who’d had the most miserable day cleaning. Not saying all stay at home mums are like that many home school and can meet for coffee and can fit in more fun stuff, it’s just how I remember it.I choose to work and maybe spend half an hour a day cleaning the house. I don’t own pointless dust gathering ornaments and spend my free time having a life and doing fun stuff with my child, fella and friends. I love the fact that I can pay for this stuff myself and don’t have to ask for money . But each to their own just down to personal circumstances

Valid points were made throughout. I'm glad you touched on not everyone should be an entrepreneur because that seems to be what is being pushed. As far as SAHGF goes, you are correct that these ladies are actually making significant income from their socials that the unsuspecting audience doesn't consider. Creating these esthetically appealing videos is their job. I've even seen an uptick of SAHM and trad wives videos. I know several SAHM in real life and let me tell you, their lives were drastically different. There was lots of budget planning, clipping of coupons, thrift shopping, forgoing certain outings/activities because they couldn't afford it. In today's climate, it is extremely difficult to live off one income unless one person makes an incredibly high income or there's a lot of budgeting/planning. And I'm glad you lightly touched on financial abuse as many people will stay in bad situations because of finances. A piece of advice my dad told me is always be able to make your own. It's fine to marry and have your husband provide because, as a man, that's what he's to do. But always be able to make your own money.

First of all it's not a trend. And second of all if your really worried about your man leaving you then you shouldn't be dating in the first place. Period. Women don't NEED to work if they don't want to and having a man who loves you so much that he will go out and work his ass off to pay the bills and take care of the woman he loves is waayyy better than going out acting money hungry and coming home depressed and wore out. No thanks 😊

Since when did a housewife mean you didn't work? Women for millenia worked, just not out of the house. Their financial contributions just didn't add up to that of their man, but they warned income for their households from HOME while tensing to the home and then raising the children when they came along.
Not to mention, most women today are on antidepressants and considering that most women are working adults, I think the problem is women working. Our bodies are not meant to work 40 hrs plus a week for decades, men and women are not the same!

Such an interesting discussion! I actually, inadvertently, became a "Stay At Home Girlfriend" this year because I was laid off. I was fortunate to be in a position where my then-boyfriend/now-fiance (but NOT LEGALLY MARRIED nonetheless) was earning enough income for the both of us, but my mental health has been in a low place this year because while I'm "free" to do other things with my time, it does not feel good to rely so heavily on one person. Luckily I have an emergency fund in savings that I could have used if anything were to go wrong, but still the lack of agency really got to me. I want people to be able to do what they love AND make a living, but definitely skeptical about this trend. And you're SO RIGHT, they ARE working and making an income!

If you have “nothing else going for you” because you don’t have a traditional job, then your job was your identity which is something that shouldn’t be desirable. If the SAH partner is bored and has no real identity anymore, then that is their own fault for just letting life just happen to them rather than taking initiative in their own lives. Not every SAH relationship is the same. The money power dynamic is not as strong if both partners have equal access to accounts, money, cards, etc. Having a SAH partner does not work for everyone, but it does work for a lot of people. I would agree that it’s not smart to do it without any legal protections of marriage.

This is very true not everyone has a toxic relationship. And not everyone fills fulfillment through their job. I myself plan on being a stay at home wife and it’s important to think abt everything full circle. You should have skills or an education at least in case something happens (it’s not often mentioned but spouses do die). And yes your fulfillment would come from other things your interests and hobbies. Something pll forget to is you can have the same legal rights as someone married you just have to actually get it in writing and signed by lawyers. Getting married doesn’t actually give you other benefits it just bypasses these processes. And most pll getting married now should get prenups anyways to ensure shared expectations. Everything she said was kinda presumptuous…although I’ve never watch these tik toks. Thank you for your post

I mean women are allowed to be in their "feminine" and get back to being at home when they are stressed but men arent? Are they robots or what.
On the other hand i at times feel like patriarchy and "traditional roles" did give men some authority but it also conditioned them to put themselves after their family and work work work ........ cause they are "wired to do so" sounds like robotic to me.

I think the idea of staying home is a reaction to the previous trend of get out of the home. Get a job earn money don’t make homemaking the priority of family life. Homemaking if well done is work! But it extends past 9 to 5. And it can include rest or social breaks in a day. I do believe a woman being a homemaker is contributing more than maid service and cook depending on the individual and her talents and abilities. When it comes to sexual privileges we know their are woman who make their job giving those services so that is a form of work. In fact wealthy men can pay to have the contributions of the girl friend. Except one thing if the woman is truely a man’s friend I do not think real authentic friendship is bought or paid for. That said if the couples friendship is genuine love one could wonder what keeps them from being married? If they fear love may not last that could explain why they resist marriage. Still I am glad the trend of making home less a priority than career might be seen as a mistake for many men and women! 0:06 0:06 0:06 0:06
