    I saw an interview (in Spanish, so one never knows with translations) where Dany (lead singer and guitarist) said she doesn’t consider herself a prodigy, rather a product of hard work and dedication. I fully respect her opinion of course... but I would disagree with regarding to songwriting and arrangements. They’ve had professionals to guide them in terms of production and instrumental techniques, but their natural instincts for melody and dynamics are absolutely prodigious. They just...collectively know how to make a song catch the ear, especially in a live setting.

    Yes that is a Manson, she had just got a sponsorship with them sometime last year. Her other electric is a custom Rick Toone, Spearfish. Ugh is one of those songs that slowly seeps into your subconscious, and the next thing you know you're humming it while you do the dishes...
    Love the honest and constructive critique, that whole album is killer bro good luck trying to stop listening...

    Random thoughts -- Manson, yes. Ugh, they found this song so difficult to write they started referring it it as "ugh" during the writing process and ultimately decided to keep that as the name. You pointed out Ale's bass work behind Dany's power chords. Ale showed huge growth as a young bassist on this album by frequently using her bass as a melody instrument and not just a rhythm instrument. Finally, a big shoutout to Creative Dreams in Monterrey, MX, for the wonderful video show they put together to enhance the stage show. It is EPIC!

    • @jafquist27

      That's what I'm sayin'! The video behind them is spectacular. I particularly like the waves near the end. It creates a mood or essence I can't quite explain. I find it very powerful. The joining of Creative Dreams and The Warning is a truly special partnership. Rudy, who plainly knows what he is doing, obviously loves the entire family, and they him. What more could a band ask for?

    This song has grown on me more then any other on the album. I wasn't a big fan originally, but now Ugh is in my top half of songs from the record. I'm no musician, so I can't give a technical reason, but it's got a hook in me.

    Oh Boy! You really have been hooked into this! Now you will realise and understand the PASSION that the Army feels for these fabulous girls. This song proved a problem for them and Pau didn't want it included, but Dad insisted and he was right. But I liked your comment on Ale's bass lines. Just 14yo, she knows exactly what is needed to underpin the songs and enhance what Pau is doing on the drums. This basis is what makes their sound unique to them.

  • @Divedown_25
    @Divedown_25 5 лет назад +10

    I find it interesting that you captured the bass line of Ale. For me, I like Ugh as it goes into my memories of more progressive rock of the mid 70.s. I also like how Dany harmonizes the voice/guitar in the portion
    “Now I am trapped within
    Slowly sinking in
    Waves of never ending terror
    Stay forever
    I am afraid to see
    What’s become of me
    The rope I’m walking on gets tighter
    Cross the fire”

    Enjoy your reactions from Survive to Ugh. The girls didn't want to use Ugh on the Album, but their father insisted till they gave in. The title became Ugh because they didn't like it. But like Maddog Jones said below, it grows on you and now its one of the girls favorites. Stay tuned, this should be a great year for The Warning.

    I find myself wondering if you realize how excited we get when we find a new reaction to The Warning? By telling us you're going through the album, you've become a Pied Piper of sorts. Not that we're comparable to rats, but you know we'll be with you through this album (and beyond, for many) It's only part that The Warning is involved. The rest is watching your relationship to The Warning develop, whichever direction it goes. We are seeing some very distinct symptoms of a true blue case of TWE. Like some have said, I too find myslef humming/singing this song. A little volume and some extra bass, and it'll grow just about anywhere!

    This is where I'm finally going to throw my two cents in on this song and it's title. Before I knew the back story, it just seemed to fit as an expression of The Queen's frustration with the situation she has found herself in. To me, it's this song where her personality officially splits, and the volley between fantasy and reality begins. The ladies have not described it this way, but I feel it fits perfectly in the plot development of this musical novel. Give it a few more listens. It is a real rocker. Give the studio version a try. Although the graphics behind them on this video add some seasoning which is hard to un-taste. Babble, babble, happy babble. I just love this band!!!

    • @jbartyparty7398
      @jbartyparty7398 5 лет назад +2

      I would tend to agree with this assertion John! And well stated as usual!
      We go from the somewhat haunting acoustic soliloquy of CQ into the slightly eerie sounding Ugh, where there is a confluence of the longing expressed in the heartfelt (although the final "drink for me" lyric signals the first look into an obsessed mind teetering on the edge of becoming unhinged) ballad of CQ and the building frustration you cite, which will ultimately culminate in both rage and unhinged psychosis.
      Wait, did I say too much? Paul, it was really cool getting to do this as Patreons and without the benefit of really knowing what the story was about and then trying to interpret how the songs would fit into the overall story line as the chapters were revealed gradually every couple of weeks. What John says above seems like the perfect way to describe Ugh, as the music's more frenetic pace and somewhat eerie undertones definitely creates the tension you would expect from a "volley between fantasy and reality." Okay, think that's enough, I'm not writing a term paper! :-D

      The word "Ugh" make me think of an old indians answer to any question a cowboy would present in old comic books. :)

    Thumbs up just for capturing your allergies / sneezing on camera! haha Looking forward to this one in particular, let's go!
    Good stuff mate, interesting that you thought it reminded you of something. It may very well be the song you just listened to, Crimson Queen. As there is a distinct relationship in the riffs of each song, and after a few listens you'll get it stuck in your head, start humming it and then realize it's a sped up version of CQ, melody wise. Which I think may have been intentional, but can't say for sure. Will need to check with the ladies in the next live chat they host every month on Patreon.
    Personally I think it may have been intentional as they were obviously working off a similar or same chord progression, which eventually spawned The Sacrifice and the next song you're about to do, The One. But for me there are enough distinct parts and elements that make each song catchy and memorable, not to mention it provides the listener with a building sense of drama and intensity, which was certainly intentional as you will hear for yourself as you get into the "meat" of the middle of this rock novel / story.
    Anyway, happy to hear you liked it and though the time went by pretty fast, which means you got lost in the music a bit. I'll be interested to hear a bit more of your analytical assessment once you've done a few more songs and begin to better understand the emotional progression of the story, as manifested in the songs as they ratchet up in intensity. Sadly, this vid's volume seemed a bit muted through your channel, and I don't know why. But I can tell you from experience that this song will really punch you in the gut thanks to Ale's booming bass and Paulina's impeccable drum work.
    And you're right, this is a song that really features Ale's playing ability and provides some really good melodies under Dany's somewhat static guitar parts. It's usually the other way around and I love that they like to flip them around. More to come with some exemplary and varied bass playing, PSYCHOTIC, The One and Hunter especially dynamic bass.

    Second comment, ‘cause I’m on a roll 🙂, I really appreciated your point about Alejandra (Ale to friends and fans), the bass player. All three members are progressing rapidly, but IMO since the XXI Century Blood album, Ale has made the biggest leap as a player, and is still just 14 years old! She keeps up with her sisters so seamlessly I sometimes forget Pau and Dany have 3-5 years more of experience and development behind them. They’re all special, but Ale...that adorably shy and awkward kid (offstage at least) might just be on another level.

Interesting that you mentioned that, even if you enjoyed it, it is your least favorite, as the sisters indicated that they had such a hard time completing it. @jCaesar Gibson has had some financial and quality control problems recently. Just speculation, but maybe they cut back on sponsorship for that. There have been artists who have dropped Gibson for the QC issues too. An off the rack Les Paul Custom, and even some Standards, can cost as much as another brands custom shop guitar or even boutique instruments like Dani's Rick Toone.

    • @manfredbrosche5661
      @manfredbrosche5661 5 лет назад

      @jCaesar Dany doesn't use tgem live anymore (at least for the moment). The Spearfish is obviously her favourite guitar and tge Manson has a sustainer built in, that she uses in "The End". I think, carrying around a third guitar would be too complicated. There are also two basses, Pau's cymbals, maybe the snare, the effect boards, the in-ear monitoring system, the devices to feed in the click track and the backing tracks, the laptop, maybe vocal mikes and who knows, what else. Even, if they rent the drumset and the amps, this is still quite a lot.

    • @westmus
      @westmus 5 лет назад +5

      There's no reason for Gibson to endorse Dany, if she never play their guitars in public anymore. Dany have actually commented on the guitars here on YT. That the Spearfish helped her with pain in her vrists that she was getting from the LP and that is was hard to keep the LP in tune.
      I remember Rick Toone writing somewere that he offered Dany one of his guitars because he could see that she was struggling with her big Gibson. Few people seem to realize how petite Dany is. Based on what Dany said in their story telling show (I think), then the Manson was also an offer she recieved.
      Dany's personal YT comment are hiding in the comments for their guitar signing video. Someone asks about fanned frets and surprisingly gets an very long answer from Miss D. 👍
