Oh man, now I'm not so disappointed in the Van Moof guys! It really is the bike I want but I can only imagine how hard getting it fixed in the middle of the middle of nowhere Ireland would be!

Yeah, I was really disappointed too. Maybe wait until the kinks get worked out. I did have a number of Vanmoofers reach out to say theirs work great (even if it was the second or third try) so it can happen.

Yes, do as many test rides as you can, you want to be perfectly happy with what you get. Glad you had Jess along for 2 sets of input on the bike. I like a cushy seat too. Hope you can ride more soon.

Unfortunately, I think the VanMoofbike will just give you more headaches in the future. Seems the product is not there yet. Maybe in the future when they've finally fixed the kinks, then you can get back to it.

Customizable is great. If you go with the Cowboy make sure you get the tassels for the handlebars!

Cowboy : + beautiful bike, great algorithm for the pedal assist, removable battery, drive belt.
- one assist, always have to have your phone working & charged, 30 N.m engine, no gears, small frame .
Vanmoof : + Great design, 59 N.m engine, Gears (when they work), that lovely little right button.
- Reliability !!!! Reliability !!!! Reliability
Just a bit scared that if you film on the cowboy while driving we will get a free tour of
L’ Hôpital de la pitié.
Good luck making your choice, they are both beautiful electric bikes with complete different ride experience.

We'll definitely have to see! The removable battery is also a negative for me because of how frequently batteries get stolen in town, but he said it's trackable so maybe that one does a little less?
I really like the cowboy. I've watched a couple of videos of comparisons and it really looks neat.

I have bought an Ampler curt, check their bikes as well, they are very nice and very light
They're on the list! They just don't do test rides in Paris - we'll need to find a third party vendor

I think the bike
(according to the comparison review I saw on RUclips)
is very barebones but is quite customizable
(though is there a cost in customizing it)
The two things I do remember being mentioned in the review were
- the belt drive and gearing and
- the sitting position
I am sure there were a lot of other things
but interesting you mentioned them too.
It was a very different feel, but I liked it a lot faster than I thought I would. I could get used to it really quickly

I am really interested in watching how the Van Moof saga continues to unfold, and I’m wondering if you’ve pretty much given up on the Wheel as an efficient alternative ..? You seem to be choosing the metro most of the time. BTW, I’m holding the happy thought that you receive your visa before leaving fo the States! Thanks again for adding a big smile to my day! 🌞
The wheel isn't really an effective commuting device as much as a fun filming device - too long on it and your legs really hurt. But the main issue is that it's been losing its reliability as well - I don't trust it as much anymore =/ Glad you enjoyed the video though!

I like the removable battery and the belt drive but I still like gears. Check out Gazelle, Reisse Meuller, and Urban Arrow.

The answer is two bikes: A sporty, fast, exciting 100% manual bike for exercise and a comfy Dutch "sit up and beg" style bike with electric assist for practical city transport.
Not a bad combo =)
I hope you calculate the amount you run back and forth to your camera in your running distances :)

It's been a crazy few weeks for me and I'm behind on things in Jay land so watching this was like. . what wait . . what what . . who. .CALIFORNIA. .. did I miss vaccine action. . . must . ..go back and watch. Also, was totally thinking as you were saying all the things you can't tweek YEAH WELL. .. that's also a list of all the things that can't go wrong.

He's on the Pont de l'Alma and the domes belong to the Russian Orthodox church (or Cathedral). It's an ultramodern building & pretty big.

The Quad Lock phone mount is a good one. Use it every ride. Have an armband to take phone while running too. #notSponsored

The cowboy looks cool and it looks like a smaller bike (maybe shorter than the VanM) do you have to have your phone on the bike all the time? I like it.
If you do get this bike you need a longer stem to get the steering higher, otherwise you might have back issues or wrist issues on long rides ( you are a fairly big guy , so these things are important to customize) Again I like this bike.

In the world of city views, the Trocadero view of The Eiffel Tower is stunning at anytime of the day. One of the best views in the world. F#@* VanMoof! It took them you wanting your money back to offer you another crap bike. Ride that new horse Cowboy at don't look back. Like that Jess is not camera shy, and willing to participate. That's what I thought. And the lower your posture the more you have to raise your head which can lead to bad neck, shoulder, jaw and spine problems.
I love what you do and that is absolutely no criticism. I just want you to have that in mind when buying a bike. This advice really comes from the heart.

The Van Moof certainly has the looks with its design, shame about your experience with them. Have you looked at Lekker bikes?

I would guess that if you were to rank the top five things a bike needed for you to like it, Style would be up near the top. What this has going for it is, simplicity, it looks and feels like a normal bike, just hop on and go.. the belt drive is clean and quiet and will last forever. the flat pedals are the way to go, they feel grippy, the quad lock, use your phone as the app is perfect, you can replace the handlebar tube or handlebar for a more upright position, but realize that upright means all the weight is on the butt instead of placing some on the handlebars, so.. anyway. Just my thoughts I love bikes, I have had too many, I only have 4 now,. I use my ebike for transportation, it could be nice to have modes to boost more or less, and I do, but I find myself using the highest mode all the time because it's fun to go fast.
For sure - simplicity, reliability, and style are all huge for me. This one had a lot going for it. I really enjoyed taking it for a spin!

Nice bike! But a free vanmoof? Hard to say no. (wait, was it free or an offer of an upgrade?) Room in the garage for both tho... Re the comfort of the saddle - women's pelvic bones sit wider than men's, so women usually find a wider saddle more comfortable. Otherwise we're riding on the inside edge of our pelvic bone, ouch, instead of the bottom. (citation: growing up with bike racers and doing a brief spell of bike racing myself when I was a wee one)
Definitely room for both - we'll see what develops haha

A new bike is always impressive, think about what type of riding you do, it seems your more of a commuter rather than using the bike for exercise, maybe I am wrong....
I could go either way - I do ride a lot harder than you'd think, so the Cowboy wouldn't be a bad fit

@@JaySwanson there is another bicycle you might take a look at, a Danish company called Strøm. Strøm Citybike M E-bike, it sells from €1.595
You can accessorize a Vanmoof as well. It works with every saddle/different grips/tires. Also the Cowboy is not a perfect city bike, compared to a Vanmoof. It doesnt even have a kickstand, the lights are not legal and very dark, you have to pay extra for fenders,… All of those things are included with a Vanmoof, and if you have a great one, the Vanmoof beats it in every category. The VanMoof is stronger, has a bigger battery, internal speedometer and is more smart.
I would take the offer vanmoof gave you.

@@JaySwanson Would be great to see a video looking back on the wheel: pros and cons, and perhaps working out how much it cost (v. for example using a Navigo, or a Vélib, or a personal bike). I'm surprised by how popular they are here.
