      But when you crash your body demands catch up on all the missing sleep and calories. I've had it before when I finally passed out (unintentionally, subconscious mind/body decided to 25th amendment my waking mind), I sat down for a second- boom out. After initial 20min of vital deep sleep, time to sleep walk to the kitchen and eat a half to three quarters of a pound of brown sugar. Would have eaten more, but that was all that was left. Found some lemonade mix powder, luckily only half cup or so of that left for me to sloppily eat. Finally woke up few hours later after nonstop dreams of desperately searching for food. Confused with sugar all over my face I drove to nearby relatives house and ate a bunch of their food.
      I think that was after my first time awake for eight days. I think I choked down nothing but a protein shake or two in that whole time. "To keep it healthy".. Fucking so stupid I was.

Like 6 months later I had a tooth get badly infect. My one side of my face swelled all the way up around my eye. Had to get it removed by a surgeon and I cried in agony when they stabbed the needle in the infected gum. Like an out of body experience it was so painful.

    My mouth looks like I have "meth mouth" but that isn't the reality. I've never touched an illegal drug in my life. I had to have a radical hysterectomy due to cancer, and throughout the entire recovery (including the time it took for my body to acclimate to menopause) I was sick what seemed like non-stop. I actually had a physician years later ask me if I was bulimic, but no. On top of years of abuse by my now ex husband and a deep, deep depression, I feel stuck. I managed to get my top teeth pulled, the next step was to do the bottom teeth (which need surgical removal), but the judge in our divorce terminated the insurance I had. As a single female with no dependents, I didn't qualify for Medicaid at that time. I finally found an oral surgeon and I was supposed to see him in March, but guess what..... yeah.
    The one thing I absolutely hate the most is all of the stigma I get from everybody. It doesn't matter one bit how much pain I am in, if I have an abscess, a clearly freshly-broken tooth (because they are literally just falling apart at this point), or anything. They all take one look and completely disregard me as a drug addict. I have been in more pain these last couple of months than I can even begin to explain.

I have dentinogenisis imperfecta type 2, that means the dentin didn't form correctly, with over large pulp chambers with cervical constriction, that causes the enamel to wear off and the teeth break, not only that but they also wear down into the gum line. I DID ask go what extent did drugs damage my teeth, I was told by 2 dentists yes, drugs didn't help, but the vast majority of the damage was because of genetics, IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER. Well, I guess you, a fud off RUclips knows better than a dentist. I used to work at Starbucks and I was always drinking coffee not thinking about it being acidic, I just kept drinking it to get through shifts. I’ve been told by two dentists now that my enamel is very thin for my age and I get so down about it. Also, I was taking antidepressants which cause dry mouth and I had a Vit D deficiency, all of these things together compounded the tooth erosion.

      If you are getting dry mouth from talk to your doctor or dentist. They can prescribe you a high fluoride toothpaste that helps protect the enamel breakdown. Have them write you a script and don’t get it through the dentist office. Pick it up at the pharmacy. Usually insurance or goodrx will cover most of it. I think I pay $3 or $4 bucks a tube with is price for toothpaste but way cheaper then crowns or implants.
      I take an oral medication and that in comb with another medication that gives me dry mouth it has done a number on my teeth, particularly the bottom back front where the medication has to sit for a few seconds, but since I started using the toothpaste everyday the enamel wear virtually stopped.

I have never seen anything that resembles this, but in the beginning it can seem weird. But now, I can see almost anything and not be put off... you see it as a patient that needs help or an interesting case. IMO its better than smelling gastric juice while a general surgeon, cutting off warts as a podiatrist, etc etc. If you want to be any kind of doctor, you will be dealing with people's health problems which can oftentimes resemble what's outside the norm

    I had really nice teeth as a teen and ruined them with purging (stomach acid) and a 10 year period of excessive ecstasy, cocaine, and heroin use. Along with smoking a pack of cigs a day. I have six of my molars that had to be pulled because I couldn't afford to get crowns. Now that I am sober and I have a real job with real insurance I'm able to go to the dentist I just had three crowns (several root canals) and about 6 fillings done.
    I don't do drugs or smoke cigs anymore. We do recover. The emotional and physical damage of even only a few years of drug use can take way longer to fix compared to how long your actual habit was.

    I’ve got bad teeth from a terrible past with addiction… but my teeth wouldn’t have gotten so bad if since I was 21 and seeing a dentist after 5 years of drug use, I was literally shamed for the state of my teeth. I’ve always since then been too embarrassed. I know it’s oxymoronic and contradictory. I’ve gone to several other dentists that actually ended up doing really shotty jobs on my fillings that came out within a year that I felt I wasted my money on… I also don’t have the money to get them fixed. But I do have insurance now and my 2022 goal is to see a dentist and get these all fixed soon. Im only 37 and have 4 missing molars. One on each side. It’s so embarrassing and depressing. Im just glad my smile area isn’t affected. Just my molars.

    As a chemist, attributing this to acids didn’t sound right. Many (most) common drain cleaners are strong bases, not acids. Lantern fuel isn’t an acid. Anti-freeze is also a base. But I DID find one reference to it being caused by acid and since it says exactly what you said, you either wrote it or read it.
    Most explanations are centered around poor hygiene in meth users, particularly oral hygiene, and that meth users eat lots of sweets and sweet beverages. (And acids are produced when the sugars are broken down.)

    My teeth look similar and I never did meth. I brush and floss every day. Just two days a go I bit down and my canine literally sheared off !! I’ve also woke up to powdered teeth in my mouth. I had problems with dry mouth mal occlusion, all my life only recently found out my saliva glands never worked right and don’t produce amalace period. I hate going to dentist cuz I worry they will assume I’m a drug addict

      Dentist shouldn't judge at all.People go there to get their confidence back if the dentist or his staff are judgemental this isn't the job for them.Thos could prevent people from going and their teeth just getting worse.

    Swish with baking soda ( sodium bicarbonate) after each hit . Very cheap way to neutralize acid . Then again , a meth head probably wouldn't know that or do it if they did .

    How do you deal with gums that constantly produces pus in between the teeth and gums even after 3 scalings?

    • @josephrnemeth
      @josephrnemeth  4 года назад +6

      You may want to look into getting the LANAP treatment. This procedure is painless and is much more effective than scalings at removing bacteria. We offer this treatment here at our office, however you may be able to find someone close to you that offers the procedure. Check out this video if you want some more information.

    Even in non smoking users I’ve seen absolute destruction of their mouth. The grinding wears down teeth at an all time rate and like he said the dry mouth contributes to even more rapid decay because germs are being washed away like the mouth naturally does when a person isn’t under the influence of methamphetamine. I’ve been clean for a year now and I’m still dealing with mouth pain and habitual tooth grinding from using so much over the course of five years of off and on use.

  • @womaninthewave
    @womaninthewave Год назад +1

    Ooof. It really is bad, also the dry mouth is awful and destroys the teeth and gums as well. My meth use caused that as well as so much grinding of the teeth that I didn’t notice much at all. My jaw was already messed up from grinding, it clicks and my smile is crooked. I’m lucky I have my teeth.

I can’t fine enough reviews on it to go through with it. I got osseous surgery on a quarter of my mouth but I’m scared to do the rest because of it how it looks. I have big gaps and my teeth look long, so I’m in a rut right now. Any suggestions?
