Good thing there’s a better choice available in the waxed variety
I was complaining about how hard it is to find unwaxed and non-plastic floss a couple of years ago, underneath a completely unrelated video elsewhere here on RUclips. I don't like the way these slippery types of floss are SOOO slippery that they don't really even grip big pieces of food like corn silk or bits of popcorn kernels stuck between your teeth. Another person recommended a brand to me (Dr. Tung's) and I was wary at first because the website sounded very hippy dippy, and I question the scientific validity of some of the other products they have there (having to do with things like "oil pulling" etc.) But I do like their floss. The surface is just rough enough that it does a really good job of scraping plaque off of the edges of your teeth, and it is very effective at grabbing bits of stuck food. They claim they don't have any of these persistent chemicals. And they recently switched from having plastic casing around the roll of floss to paper casing. They do use beeswax on one type of their floss, but for people who don't have allergies to beeswax or bee products that's OK. And both the beeswax floss and the vegan floss have flavoring agents that probably aren't necessary, so I would prefer they didn't have those plant extracts that certain people might have allergies to.
I bet you put lots of things in your mouth without knowing the ingredients or virus content, etc. Try writing down EVERYTHING you put in your mouth or your lips touch some day.
Oh my goodness, I cannot thank you enough for this information!!! I have gone to TWO different Dental Offices since July 2024 (Today is 10/08/2024). For two broken teeth, requiring root Canal & cap, other molar a crown covering. Both dentist suggested Flossing, and one recommended using a water pik device, because I have some bone loss & gum disease. Neither are recommending a SAFE DENTAL FLOSS to use. Just came across this video and very much appreciate it. Thank you for putting this important information out there. Never even considered that I might be exposing myself or my family to harmful chemicals when encouraging flossing.
I've spent thousands of dollars on my teeth (I'm 73). My parents didn't believe in dental care for kids because "the baby teeth just fall out anyway". I've been paying the price my whole life. And now this😢
I’m a dental hygienist & I will most likely use it up. My dad was depression era so I’m not going to see it go to waste. I have at least 10 to 15 containers of glide floss in my bathroom drawer, right now.
ive used bamboo floss thats been dipped in essential oils for years. Its probably the best I can do. I dont wanna play around with that wacky plastic chemical crap
Just great...Glide floss is the only one my dentist and I have found that will actually go between my teeth. All others will go in between but break off leaving floss in between my tightly jammed together teeth and has to be dug out by my dentist which takes about 40 minutes on average.
I think the amount of chemicals that come from floss is not enough to harm you. Glide is also the only one I have been able to use since having braces. My teeth are very tight in some areas.
@@TexSquirrel Consider you are moving the floss back and forth over and over again. PFAS particles rubbing off. Do your gums ever bleed? 🩸 That is the bloodstream where the chemicals can enter. The chemicals also go into your saliva and you swallow them 365 days a year. It shouldn’t be happening.
I think they get free samples from the manufacturers because quite often the dentist will give you a bag after your visit with a new toothbrush, a travel size tube of toothpaste, and a miniature container of dental floss -- usually glide

Good to know. Might I recommend that in your video description you list the safe ones first. As it stands, you write, "It may be wise to consider switching dental flosses to one of the ones recommended below," and then list the ones WITH harmful chemicals first. I initially read the sentence and just scanned the list to see if my brand was on there; it took a second read to notice those were actually the bad ones.
I just recently started to take much better care of my teeth after having a few tooth problems in a few months. So data from professionals like yourself is very helpful in avoiding yet another one of these health pitfalls.
As someone who was accdntly poisoned, let me tell you, the last thing you want to do is add ANY CHEMICALS into your life!! That includes perfumes and colognes. Things you would not give a second thought to, plug-in fragrance spritzers (ie Glade), regular laundry detergent + dryer sheets, scented lotions (esp. Bath/Body Works), wax warmers like Scentsy. I became house-bound for 18 years! I started having to clean and do everything like my great-grandmother would have done, ie Vinegar, lemon, baking soda to clean with!! I only use fragrance free products, which were very hard to find back in 2005ish, much easier now! But vinegar is very inexpensive!! Same with baking soda! Anyone with lung issues, or with children around ...should never have regular products on them. One day, I was in line at the restaurant (I occ went at 3pm when they were almost empty of business) and a young lady and her newborn was near me. In walked "grandma" smelling (reeking) of a smell that she must have pickled herself in overnite in the tub!!. Young momma did not seem fazed, but I wanted to rescue that baby and mom and get them to safety! But, I was already spinning in dizzyness, and the seizures were right around the bend ... like I would get from certain chemicals! All this happened in a 2-3 second time frame! I ran outside instead. Thanks for the warning on FLOSS!!
I was a caregiver for a while for an elderly lady who had a beautiful little rescue kitten, and it kept getting so sick. Its eyes and nose would run. It would gag. It had postnasal drip, and they said she came with sinus issues. Which she did, but they did not realize they were causing it to reoccur over and over because they have those glade plug-ins. Those are the worst thing for people with asthma, or any kind of allergy or sensitivity, but mostly for cats and dogs, they have such a strong sense of smell and think about it, most of those plug-ins are down on the floor level. The owner did not believe me thought I was trying to be Miss smarty-pants, but he finally saw an article that said exactly what I was telling him in the picture of the cat, and it looked identical to his cat. He actually sent me a copy of the article and said I was right. I have been throwing away the plug-ins. Every time I saw one in the wall, lol I was looking out for the cat and I have no regret. The cat is now healthy and bad sinus infection upper respiratory infection free for almost 3 years! Be careful with anything that has sense to it.

I don't floss. I use a toothpick. I don't use mouthwash. I don't use toothpaste. I brush with water. I'm 63 - no gum bleeding, no cavities. In my life, as much as I can, I stay perfume/dye free, chemical free, preservative free, etc. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Water is not enough. You can floss with an nonfluoride sustainable toothpaste. Toothpick also not enogh to remove food from all gaps. I use a set of interdental gap brushes, using respective sizes for smaller or larger gaps.
100%. I had autoimmune issues for decades thanks to the silver filling in my mouth. When I got it removed I started recovering my health. I never go to dentists anymore and my teeth and gums get less tartar now then when I had regular care. Dentists destroyed my life and kept giving me the same party line. One thing I do that helps is rinse and brush my teeth with water first thing before drinking anything!!
@@Pencil-o1p I can only speak for myself. My first concern, is to keep CHEMICAL laden materials out of my body. That includes toothpaste/dental floss/mouthwash. If you have dental issues(tongue/gum/teeth etc.), it becomes a personal decision you have to make. If I'm going to have a close encounter (e.g. hairdresser), I'll throw in a Tik Tak. One "trick of the trade" - drinking/gargling water throughout the day also helps.

Another person recommended a brand to me (Dr. Tung's) and I was wary at first because the website sounded very hippy dippy, and I question the scientific validity of some of the other products they have there (having to do with things like "oil pulling" etc.)
But I do like their floss.
@@lovejoypeace9424what is your favorite floss to use?
Unfortunately, Dr Tungs is listed under the floss brands which tested positive for PFAS in this video's information. @@TakenTook
Thank you for this. They should have to list their ingredients on their product if it’s going into anyone’s mouth. Completely frightening information.
I bet you put lots of things in your mouth without knowing the ingredients or virus content, etc. Try writing down EVERYTHING you put in your mouth or your lips touch some day.
You're wonderful and what a champion you are for people and you're not scared of those companies
Oh my goodness, I cannot thank you enough for this information!!!
I have gone to TWO different Dental Offices since July 2024
(Today is 10/08/2024).
For two broken teeth, requiring root Canal & cap, other molar a crown covering.
Both dentist suggested Flossing, and one recommended using a water pik device, because I have some bone loss & gum disease.
Neither are recommending a SAFE DENTAL FLOSS to use.
I've have been an RN in Texas for 27 yrs;; I am beyond frustrated with today's Medical Professionals, not being Patient Advocates. & helping their patients achieve & maintain optimal health.
I will get off my " soap box", because it makes me so mad, and I need to get some sleep tonight.
Thank you, thank you do much for making this video, & giving great alternative products to utilize.
Root canals are extremely unhealthy, look into it, don't do it
Thank you, Dr., it's good to know that at least someone cares about our health. My dad was a dentist and I've been flossing for at least 50 years. thanks for the tip!
Damn! I’m a serial flosser with the Glide brand. Thank you!
Me too! It really does glide well between the teeth and now we know why 😮
Same
Me too. Now what do I do?
I just ran to the store and found Cocofloss Mint. Thank you!!!🤩
Thank you for bringing this to our attention
You are an amazing caring doctor! You are so rare🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️TRULY appreciate your honesty and trying to keep people healthy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Just came across this video and very much appreciate it. Thank you for putting this important information out there. Never even considered that I might be exposing myself or my family to harmful chemicals when encouraging flossing.
Please review silk and bamboo flosses... plain and charcoal infused. Thank you!
Having tight teeth, Oral-B was one of the very few that I found easy to use. Now I know why. Time to find a different brand.
did you find a good replacement brand?
I like this floss too because I have veneers. It’s the only one that doesn’t shred 🥲
I have multiple crowns, nothing works but glide 😢
Yes, same. Anyone know of a floss like Glide that is flat, and safe?
I've spent thousands of dollars on my teeth (I'm 73). My parents didn't believe in dental care for kids because "the baby teeth just fall out anyway". I've been paying the price my whole life. And now this😢

ive used bamboo floss thats been dipped in essential oils for years. Its probably the best I can do. I dont wanna play around with that wacky plastic chemical crap
My dentist wanted to sell me bamboo floss for 5 bucks a box. And when I mean a box I mean one thing of floss¡ insane
Just great...Glide floss is the only one my dentist and I have found that will actually go between my teeth. All others will go in between but break off leaving floss in between my tightly jammed together teeth and has to be dug out by my dentist which takes about 40 minutes on average.
Try superfloss and thread it between the teeth. No need to pull it through the contact
I’ve also had floss break off, and that is why I used Glide. But no more. It’s going in the TRASH.
Yes it works well and like you say doesn't break.
Well lots of dentists probably knew this and never tell their patients. Props to this man.
I doubt it.
I think they get free samples from the manufacturers because quite often the dentist will give you a bag after your visit with a new toothbrush, a travel size tube of toothpaste, and a miniature container of dental floss -- usually glide
I honestly highly doubt it lmfao
You guys all missed the fact that this is new research, eh?
@@beantreats Yep I did! LOL I will keep my flosses. I remember how well those covid shots worked out.

Well, you-know-who is against regulations and would probably hamstring the FDA or any other agency that would constrain business. Something to think about.

Do you understand that the FDA does not regulate dental floss? I’m not sure who does, but maybe we need to expand the FDA. Better not vote GOP then.

Thanks for sharing this! I was hoping someone would come out with a list! 💯❣️
Thank you Dr. For letting us know this. We would like to hear from you again.
I wasn't aware of this. I've used the Oral B Glide Pro-Health original for years. It's comparatively easy to get between my closely spaced teeth when flossing. I'm going to reaching out to the company soon. Thanks so much for the information Dr, Nemeth.
Thanks Doc. I just threw away the rest of my glide brand floss. I had no idea. Can’t trust any products anymore these days. Good health to everyone! 🙏🏼
Why can't I find a list of chemicals used on the packaging or on the company website😮
They are hiding it!
Because the U.S. Congress is bought and paid for. Same reason we don't have country-of-origin labels on ALL food.
Thank you for this helpful public service announcement
Thank you doctor for caring for people, you are a God sent. Most doctors and companies care only about their bottom line Profits!
Thank you for this vigilance. I wish our country would stop poisoning its citizens 🙏.
Please also let us know the name of these wretched ingredients so we can check the brands we use regularly. 🙏
Thank you so much for your contribution to our health.
Thank you so much for sharing this Dr. Nemeth - very good to be aware.

I just recently started to take much better care of my teeth after having a few tooth problems in a few months. (I’m a recovered addict so I haven’t had the greatest track record with my teeth. ) After beginning to floss suddenly my gums have just been so sore and swollen and as my dentist said “angry”. Honestly, what doesn't have PFAS nowadays?... corporations fricked out health. Thanks Doc.
My thoughts exactly. It's pretty much impossible to avoid PFAS.
Every time you go to a restaurant they could be cooking your stuff in cookware that has these chemicals so imagine how many thousands of times you ate in restaurants that cooked your meal in frying pans that have this chemical
Wow. So what type of cookware is safe from PFAs?
@@JackieD318ceramic, glass, cast iron, steel, etc

@@JackieD318 you’re welcome
That's why I don't eat in restaurants anymore and also because most of them still cook with seed oils.
Thank you (so very very much) for your pointing this out and bringing forth the truth that ordinarily would or may not be known or may not be highlighted you value the health and safety of your patients 🎉
So nice to see an honest dentist, hard to find these days
Thank you, Dr. Nemeth, for having the courage to warn us about this. I for one will change my dental floss brand right away!! It's unconscionable that there are still companies out there who obviously put profits over the health of their customers. That's sad.
I don't understand why scented plug in's aren't banned? Is it a form of population control? People need to seriously be informed.
And yes, 100%, scented plug in's AND essential oils etc. etc. cause cancer in dogs and cats.
I drank half a large cup of tea that was lead contaminated. I could not text right for a month. The scary thing is I noticed it and tested it myself but whoever is making that boutique tea is still doing it. Some Chinese company that was in a big gift basket my friend had.
Thank you kind sir! We have to govern ourselves right our government doesn't work for us anymore: (
That is alarming. My favorite floss is on the PFAS list! Thank you for the video, Dr. Nemeth.
Pfas is also in sunscreen and cosmetics. Thank you so much Dr. Nemeth. My late father was a wonderful dental professor and a DDS, DMD. God bless you. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
The FDA works for the mega companies , not for the people.
Companies who add PFAS to anything all say the same thing: "We have performed rigorous health and safety testing (the results and methods of which we will not share) to ensure that all our products meet FDA and other regulatory requirements (which we have carefully co-opted through lobbying and regulatory capture).
The State of California tests everything. Then it says everything might cause cancer. So there ya go.
I don't use glide anymore
Thanks Doc, appreciate the advice.
Thank you Dr. I have phobia of tge dentist office. I respect your honesty and professionalism.
@@elizabethheyenga9277You should at least get an oral exam every two yrs. They can detect mouth cancers, etc in their screenings etc
How do you treat mouth odor if you don’t use toothpaste?
@@Pencil-o1p I can only speak for myself. My first concern, is to keep CHEMICAL laden materials out of my body. That includes toothpaste/dental floss/mouthwash. If you have dental issues(tongue/gum/teeth etc.), it becomes a personal decision you have to make. If I'm going to have a close encounter (e.g. hairdresser), I'll throw in a Tik Tak. One "trick of the trade" - drinking/gargling water throughout the day also helps.
