Seriously, what other reason could there be for the FDA not actually doing their job and fulfilling their mandate? There was a time when the world looked to the United States as leaders in so many areas, but now we're finding that we have to look to Europe for something as simple as food safety? So much has got to change and Washington needs to start looking after its citizen's basic welfare first and foremost.
Well it has been like the fox 'guarding' the hen house for decades now. If you really look into it, everyone who has been appointed to head the FDA has been former big 'food' company, big chemical company or big pharmaceutical company executives.
When you consider the fact that tap water has over 85000 toxins. Somethings just can't be boiled out of water or treated with more chemicals. Just think about all the prescription drugs flushed down a toilet. Seafood is high in Mercury and Microplastics, since big agriculture has farmed ALL of the healthy minerals in food, out of the ground, (even healthy foods don't contain even 25% of what they had 50 years ago), they fix it by dumping more metals into the ground without any testing to confirm it makes a difference or if it's healthy, especially since Drugs and Healthcare is the biggest money making scam in American History. Do some real research with your eyes open with an open mind or you're just wasting time. Knowledge is POWER.
I feel like that too, often, but what I'm doing is taking a mitigated approach. I ask a series of cascading questions whenever replacing something that's a major threat or that's used up and needs replacing anyway. Think of this as being like a Q/A organizational chart. 1. Is it something that can be replaced at all? Yes - keep asking questions. No - then don't worry about it. (Renters have to go through this step, homeowners do not.) 2a. Does it go in my mouth? Yes - it gets replaced. No - move that piece forward one place on this stupid "Q/A" gameboard. 2b. Do I breath it in (such as bug sprays, cleaners, etc)? Same thing. 2c. Does it touch my body or go on something that touches my body? Same thing. 3a. Does it pollute the outside environment just by existing at all? Same thing. 3b. Does it touch anything that touches my clothing? Same thing. 4. Was it manufactured? Same thing. It'll cost me thousands of dollars to replace everything, but it'll also probably take a decade or more to accomplish that, and those are dollars I would have (at least mostly) spent anyway, just on garbage that can make me sick or even kill me. I think it's worth the effort, so long as the old garbage is thrown out and not hoarded.

For instance, old preservatives now Bad.. Glass bottles are costly to ship and recycle. But, plastics are full of chemicals... So, eat less junk. Exercise. You will be alright..
The FDA gets rid of products that are actually helping people and animals. For instance Rad Cat which was organic raw food for cats and dogs. It was healing pets with renal disease and other ailments. The FDA found a way to remove it and now it’s gone!
Right and I bet the FDA and CDC will rather focus on the healthy foods like Kerrygold so people will go bu their even more toxic option loaded with gmos. Well, it did NOT say that it was from CORN. When I say we, it was my diet buddy and coworker. The FDA has been completely dishonest and harmful. All 3 letter agencies have got to be ditched. They are literally killing us!! You have GOT TO realize this, NOW. The worst ingredient I've recently found in food : sucralose, like Splenda. It's "allowed " in food and the FDA says it's a "non nutritive." No, it's indigestible and makes you feel sick all over and some baaad side effects! Some chemicals are needed for food safety reasons. Like it or not, preservatives help keep food safe and without them, a lot of foods would vanish from the grocery store.

Let me add too that I am American and had "heartburn" for over 25 years. I went to Australia in 2016 for 3 weeks and during that time I didn't have heartburn once. I come back to the US and bang, it started up again. I went on a search as to what was causing it and it was likely processed sauces and foods bought on the store shelves. I switched to finding stuff without "corn syrup" and my condition cleared up nearly overnight. Manufacturers are poisoning us slowly and we don't even know it. Shameful.

THank you for this. Having previously worked in the government, I would also add this: dear voter, vote and demand better regulations -- do not tolerate deregulating food and agriculture. Did you know that employees of pharma and food-related companies are supposed to wait one year before joining the fed agency that oversaw their industry? The crisis -- this is too often ignored and before the Bush Cheney admin, there was a required 3 year wait. That wait makes it harder for companies to install its company loyalists in federal agencies in order to pass favourable regulations to that company -- or to kill regulations that benefit the average consumer American but at the expense of company profits. Demand that company employees wait 1 year before joining the government and help reduce corruption and save American lives. Yes, your vote and voice really do matter.

PFAS chemicals (it is a group of similar compounds, not just one chemical), due to their water--repelling qualities, are in many, many products that you use every day, and have used for decades. Anything waterproof (clothes, rain gear, plastics, vinyls, umbrellas), non-stick cookware, soaps and detergents, firefighting foam, and anything Teflon, has PFAS/PFOS compounds in it. It is this water-repelling property that makes these compounds so useful---and ubiquitous. Of course there are PFAS in your food: the chemicals are used to prevent your food from sticking to the machinery that makes it, your plastic utensils that you eat with, and your non-stick cookware that you cook with. .These compounds are everywhere. I am in the environmental field, and only now are regulatory gencies starting to look for these groups of chemicals called PFAS/PFOS, and guess what? They're several decades too late. They're everywhere, And due to their structure---they're loaded with fluorine atoms whose chemical bonds with other atoms are extremely strong--these chemicals don't degrade. Yup, we've put our foot in it this time. Enjoy the ride, folks.

Us has high fructose corn syrup in everything because it's pushed by the government, despite how unhealthy is it for the population! Thank you for this report!
Debora Henderson: PFAS chemicals are synthetic chemicals which don’t exist in nature. Before their manufacture started in late 1940s, no PFAS were present in the environment. Now they contaminate every corner of the globe and have been found in the blood of people and wildlife worldwide. PFOA stands for Perfluorooctanoic Acid. It is one chemical that belongs to the large family of over 4,500 fluorinated substances known as PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). PFAS are extremely stable and can repel both grease and water making them extremely useful in a wide variety of products. Exposure to PFOA has been linked to six major health issues: kidney cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis, and pregnancy-induced hypertension. These links were found by the US C8 Science Panel, which is referenced in the film ‘Dark Waters’. Chemicals from the PFAS family have been linked to other health issues, including reduced response to vaccines and lower birth weights. In the EU, PFOA was classified as toxic to reproduction in 2017 and the restriction for PFOA and related substances entered into force in July 2020. PFOA and other PFAS chemicals are extremely persistent in the environment, thanks to a special carbon-fluorine bond. This specific carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest bonds in nature. As a result of this bond, PFAS chemicals do not break down easily and will persist in the environment for decades. This has earned PFAS the nickname the forever chemicals. This persistence is concerning because it means that current pollution from PFOA and other PFAS chemicals could build up and impact generations that are not even born yet. PFAS chemicals are also extremely mobile. They can pass easily through normal drinking water treatment facilities to contaminate drinking water and can build up in the edible parts of fruits and vegetables. Their mobility means that they have been found in every corner of the globe, including the Arctic and Antarctic. Though the impact of exposure to PFAS on wildlife is less studied, some PFAS have also been linked to negative impacts on the reproductive, hormonal and immunological systems in wildlife. PFOA is believed to be in the blood of 99% of humans. This figure comes from the US, however studies in the UK and around the world also show that almost everyone has chemicals from the PFAS family in their body. PFOA and other PFAS chemicals are present in our bodies because we are exposed to them daily through consumer products that contain PFAS (e.g. food packaging, non-stick cookware, cosmetics, furniture) and via environmental exposure (including from drinking water, indoor air, and certain foods). Some PFAS chemicals, including PFOA, are bioaccumulative. This means they can build up in the human body over time because they are absorbed but not excreted.
Kerrygold is my go to butter here in SoCal. Now that you mention it... YEAH, the packaging changed from foil to thick paper for a while now. Never realized it. Thanks CA ! 🙂
The UK has notably fewer chemicals in their food, even the snack foods. Most of the product labels you read from the UK you know exactly what it is and whether it's not good for you. They use sugar in desserts and snacks, while we use corn syrup mostly, but sugar is used extensively as well. Sometimes we use several kinds of sugar in one product. You can order foods from the UK online, and in the process, look at their labels and compare them to similar labels in the U.S. It's not just ketchup.

I read a story about food dyes that said that the guy who worked at the FDA who was in charge of determining if food dyes were safe or not pushed to get food dyes approved despite that most red or yellow colors contain carcinogens. The argument was that such small amounts should be safe.... so it was approved. Look at the ingredient labels today though. Almost anything you eat that is red, yellow or orange has food dyes in it (especially sweets and candy). Today, just like sugar, it is in almost everything. This means we are consuming far more than what they considered 'safe' back when it was initially approved. Also, in recent years there has been a huge upswing in cancers in cats and dogs pets. This is because they were putting large amounts of food dyes in animal foods. If you look now at a lot of pet foods they will say "no food dyes" because they have started removing them from the foods because they know that is what is causing the cancer! Oh and the guy that worked for the FDA that pushed getting the dyes approved? After it was approved he quit and took a new job for... yep... the dye company! When the body takes in sugar or carbs (Carbs turn into sugar in the body) the body creates insulin to use the sugar for energy. Problem is, we eat way more sugar than we need so we get fat and eventually, type 2 diabetes. On the way though, too much insulin is an irritant to our arteries which is what allows the cholesterol to stick to the artery wall and cause blockages. The sugar industry has paid out a LOT of money trying to suppress this. Someday they are going to get nailed, just like the tobacco industry did, wait and see.
you mean you eat that , I don't , in the last 10 years , I changed my diet and started reading Labels , and much more. There's thousands of Sugar Addictive's out there on food. I been researching for 10 years , EVERYDAY, about all kind of chemicals , foods, etcccccc. It's all bad for you, they are making people sick.
Food products here in Europe are very highly regulated, no additional additives allowable unless deemed safe for human consumption, high sugar content is also banned.
Woman reporter is killing us with that vocal fryyyyy. It's as gross as listening to someone eating. Impossible to even listen to media now because of it.
I live in the South and Kerrygold has been using the cardboard and wax paper packaging for some time here, so it's not just in CA and NY where it's phased out. Also, it's the best tasting butter I've found. As far as fish goes, buy canned salmon instead of canned tuna. Salmon is safe to eat every day and can be prepared in the same ways as canned tuna. People eat way too much canned tuna in the US and tuna is one of the fish that has the highest level of mercury. The higher up the food chain the more mercury, because the fish absorbs mercury from the fish it eats.
People have no idea how much chemicals we ingest over time, especially if the diet is made up mostly of convenience ingredients or fast food which is wrapped in pfas containing packaging. It wasn’t until I started eating only whole foods that I started feeling better, physically & mentally…even, dare I say, emotionally. And that’s because the chemicals we eat affects our microbiome & gut diversity which we now increasingly understand is central to our overall health because a healthy & diverse microbiome supports a healthy immune system.
PFAS chemicals are synthetic chemicals which don’t exist in nature.
@@diahreea2022 Don't be ridiculous. The distinction is that PFAS never existed in nature, nature would not have created them-WE did as humans; meaning they don't exist in nature without being manufactured and put there by humans. They are *synthetic chemicals"; even the EPA says scientific studies have shown that exposure to some PFAS in the environment may be linked to harmful health effects in humans and animals. PFAS do not occur naturally, but are widespread in the environment. Researchers at the University of Stockholm have found them in rainwater in most locations on the planet - including Antarctica.

When I got home randomly I decided to look up reviews on the "special dark" and happened to see it mentioned that is has a very high level of lead in it. I never knew cocoa contained lead. I instantly felt sick to my stomach just by the thought. This should be criminal selling products that have no business being on the Shelf in the first place due to the potentially harmful ingredients.
OMG, I'm so DISGUSTED!!!!! I eat Cocoa every single day. Mostly I get the regular, but occasionally do pick up the "special dark" kind. NO MORE! Wow...that is so shocking! Thanks for telling us to beware.
My buddy and I, did a road trip. From Canada to Mexico. The most shocking thing, was grocery shopping. Huge food stores, with tiny little produce sections. I wanted to yell, the foods over here!!
If you live near one, buy from a local farmer, they usually sell them in large bulk sizes and you can divide it up and freeze portions until you’re ready to use. Buying from a local will allow you to get to know the farmer/grower and you’ll know their processing methods
Unfortunately, buying from local farmers doesn’t guarantee you will find out how they grow their food or animals, or how they handle their products. Small farmers have just as much of an incentive to cut corners to save money as a large one.
@@Rick6767rick in the EU it is completely illegal not to list everything in the products being sold to consumers, that is why there are frequent recalls of products when they have been tested and have trace amounts of anything that is not labelled on the ingredients.
I used to work in food industry formulating many kinds of foods. What I’d watch out more than natural flavors is the amount of salt and sugar being added to foods. To make products shelf stable, food needs to be either acidic, salty or sweet unless they’re considered canned food. In many cases natural flavors are extractives of spices or blends of seasonings and they’re only added at a tiny amount like below 1%. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

It leaches right into the butter from the wrapper due to diffusion (look up Fick's Law). And it's such a stupid thing because it's entirely unnecessary to use it. Ordinary waxed paper has worked just fine for over 100 years. Some people just cannot understand the phrase "don't fix what isn't broken".

My COPD symptoms were gone, and i still smoke modestly. Imagine that. I also suffered with peripheral neuropathy in the feet. That was the most stubborn condition, but that has also finally subsided. I do these things to maintain strength and muscle mass. I have been trying to help others who want to lose weight and get healthier - whoever will listen that is.
In my twenties my body told me something was wrong when my jaw and throat would suddenly begin to cramp. I went to a Doc and he had no idea why this was happening. It took me almost 5 yrs to figure it out and then 2 decades to confirm. Immediately when I ate soda and ketchup the cramping would begin and lasted about 2-5 minutes, they both had corn syrup. I stopped eating those two in combination and 2 decades later I was told by the Doc that if I’m not careful I could become diabetic, he said my body has a hard time processing manufactured sugars. My body was letting me know back in my twenties, good thing I listened regardless of what the Doc back then could figure out.

You didn't mention another major difference between the US & UK ketchup. The US version comes in a plastic squeeze bottle. The UK one is glass as the UK banned plastic food containers.
The expiration date is hidden or unable to be read on most labels. If they're not required to have them in a specific location, they have ways of making them hidden.
What I hate is fine print for ingredients and safety information (I see this on OTC meds all the time). A lot of brands use a factory code for the expiration date and consumers are unable to decipher it.
I knew containers or packaging were poisonous. In the mid seventies, I fed my kids using the Feingold diet. No artificial flavorings, dyes, preservatives, and poisonous packaging. Always read labels, make as much as you can from scratch.
I did that for my kids after I was told my son had ADD. He was just reacting to the petroleum based crap in foods. Bread, cereal, sausages, you name it.
Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. In America, it is not an easy or economical choice to eat healthy. There are hidden dangers on all sides. At the end of the day, those of us conscious of making good choices, realize that it is a crap shoot. Very depressing!
In Australia, the exactly same product contains the following: Concentrated tomatoes, sugar, salt, concentrated white vinegar, natural flavours, food acid ( citric acid). Contains 25.5g of sugar per 100mL.
"natural flavors"= chemicals. And citric acid is made from black mold, it also causes heartburn and acid reflux, and can wear away tooth enamel. And American Heart Association recommends no more than 25 grams of sugar a day, so use a very, very small squirt of that ketchup! Nothing is safe. 😞
Here is how scary this is. I bought "Wild Caught Pink Salmon" Great Value brand yesterday from the frozen food freezer at my local Walmart. Got home and happened to read the small print at the bottom of the package and sure enough. A product of China. Wild Caught in China and processed in China. Ingredients are Pink Salmon, water and Sodium Tripolyphosphate. I then googled it and found a video on Utube all about it. Learned the hard way to inspect and read the label carefully.
I don't know why, but products in the USA are so full of chemicals or glucose, it's no wonder that so many people are overweight or sick - profit above all. Soon you'll have to study chemistry to know what you eat🤔 there must be some limit to common sense
Why would there be any kind of metals in foods?

There was a time when the world looked to the United States as leaders in so many areas, but now we're finding that we have to look to Europe for something as simple as food safety? So much has got to change and Washington needs to start looking after its citizen's basic welfare first and foremost.

(Renters have to go through this step, homeowners do not.)

Sadly PFAS is “everywhere,” in all countries. It is an issue all countries have to work hard to address. It’s not just a US issue.

Sugar is another thing that is killing us. New research is showing that it is sugar, not fat that causes heart disease.
So true! Can’t wait to see the class-action law suit against the sugar industry and the food industry. They are in bed together.

We have already waited a long time!
Known this for years. Glad more people are catching on.
Food products here in Europe are very highly regulated, no additional additives allowable unless deemed safe for human consumption, high sugar content is also banned.

Cardboard and wax-paper both have PFAS. Sorry, try again...
This means they can build up in the human body over time because they are absorbed but not excreted.
i got beautiful Heavenly Father Almighty The Most High i feel awesome!!!
Water is a "chemical" too, you better stop drinking water if you dont like chemicals
@@violetviolet888 arsenic is natural so it must be good then. And deadly nightshade fruits too, i bet they won't poison or anything since they're natural 😉
It's about time someone's bringing awareness to all the chemicals we're 'unknowingly' subjected to
Kerry gold is the best butter. They are recommending margarine which is green chemical with yellow coloring and favoring which should be outlawed.
Yes, margarine is absolute garbage!
Great. About 2 years ago I started using Kerry Gold every day and also have been eating 6 squares of Lindt dark chocolate 78% EVERY DAY. 🙄 Fabulous. 😤
They said quite clearly in the reporting that the PFAs in the wrapper are not passed into the butter.
You're a miracle! Enjoy your health!
@@khatdubell well...."they" say a lot of things that we end up finding to be untrue. I'm American and right now they are telling people in Ohio that it's "safe" to be there where they just had a Chernobyl-like TOXIC event that is going to effect at least 6 other states ... TONS of fish and animals are DYING.... (Pets and wild animals and farm animals)...m and TODAY I watched a yt video of news that they shipped a bunch of the toxic fallout to MICHIGAN and dumped it in a couple of towns without telling anyone.
I had read about the cadmium and lead a couple months ago. I think they are trying to poison us one way or another.... So maybe I'm ok with "death by chocolate" 🤪🤔

What's always bothered me was having a maximum allowable amount without taking account of what you may get from other sources
Exactly. You get the maximum exposure off of just one product!
They always leave the door open...it allows for deniability. Given that we are being poisoned by our own governments from above daily, all municipal water is deliberately poisoned,...nothing we eat is clean...not even our own home grown organics.

Great segment guys!!!! This is what the news should be doing!
Shopping today is like been a detective, to bad for a busy Mum who have no much time to check every label for preservatives, heavy metals, GMO and each day the list is growing , when this going to stop? Should the government do something about? In Europe government banned some harmful food preservative that is allowed in others countries like Australia.
Just over this past weekend I bought a large size of Hershey's special dark cocoa. Thinking I've always purchased the regular type cocoa let me try the special dark version.
Cocoa does not contain lead. Jesus Christ.
I buy natural unprocessed organic CACAO, not cocoa, ever since I learned that years ago. No metals or toxins. Comes in a bag. Really good!
That's true but within a few days, the butter sours and then tastes like crap.
@@forliberty1805 it doesn’t have to be that way you can render it down to ghee

Nice to see that news reporting with such cavalier attitude about something so outrageous could stand over ratings or clicks.
I lived in the UK for five years, the list of ingredients in foods here in the US is always longer than the ones in the UK.
@@Rick6767rick in the EU it is completely illegal not to list everything in the products being sold to consumers, that is why there are frequent recalls of products when they have been tested and have trace amounts of anything that is not labelled on the ingredients.
Thanks for covering this kind of stuff! its very important we are informed and so many are scared to call out the big brands! Thanks again
I remember when they discovered a harmful chemical in the printing ink of slip you get in your grocery store. The person at the counter handles that paper 100's of times daily... Let's go back to glas bottles too.
You should not eat the packaging😂
They still bash butter... and recommend magarine, plant based oils, sugar, glucose, fructose, starch... ever wondered, why we are THAT fat? It's not the butter!
The chemicals on the foil leech into the butter …..
I will be 66 in a couple weeks, and use absolutely no pharmaceutical products, prescribed or over the counter for any reason whatsoever. I am healthier and stronger now than i was ten years ago. About a year and a half ago, i changed the way i ate. I began eating just one good meal per day, eating real whole foods and drastically limiting sugars, carbs, processed and fast 'foods'.
I lost about 60 pounds of excess fluids and body fat in the first 2 - 3 months. I also reversed every chronic health condition that plagued me for decades! I was no longer obese. Gone was my fatty liver condition. The edema, or swelling in my feet and lower legs was gone. My cellulitis was gone. My occasional hypertension was gone. The frequent late night urination stopped. My COPD symptoms were gone, and i still smoke modestly. Imagine that. I also suffered with peripheral neuropathy in the feet. That was the most stubborn condition, but that has also finally subsided. My testosterone levels increased, and i stopped losing teeth. The teeth that remain are stronger and healthier. I doubt i will ever lose another tooth, and would bet the farm that my bones are also stronger. My hair and skin are better. It is like aging in reverse!
I also do get exercise, but that had nothing to do with the weight loss. I do walking, yard work, squats, push ups and light to moderate weight training to name a few. I do these things to maintain strength and muscle mass. I have been trying to help others who want to lose weight and get healthier - whoever will listen that is.
I use butter and lard for my pies. Vegetable shortening is horrible.
@@umiluv Where in the United States can you purchase lard? Thank you
In my twenties my body told me something was wrong when my jaw and throat would suddenly begin to cramp.
No human body has an easy time processing man made sugar crystals
Interesting about the throat … that could be why mine is always in spasms. Docs been trying to figure this out for several years.

Thats interesting. Occasionally, when I drink soda in the am a node under my jaw swells up temporarily. I can feel it start tingling and then swell.
And high fructose corn syrup is by far the most dangerous sugar on the planet!
You didn't mention another major difference between the US & UK ketchup. The US version comes in a plastic squeeze bottle. The UK one is glass as the UK banned plastic food containers.
Smart on the UK for realizing the biological and environmental toxicity issues associated with plastics!
Sorry this is not true for the UK we have plenty of plastic containers even for Heinz ketchup , Companies here are just as greedy as the US,
We are tired of these companies intentionally trying to kills us.
They have been doing it for decades with the blessings of 'government'.
It helps the pharmaceutical companies and it helps the healthcare industry. It’s a money grab. They don’t care about people. They care about money.
Nobody is forcing you to buy from the grocery store. There are plenty of local farms with real food and high quality meat. Open your eyes slave
The expiration date is hidden or unable to be read on most labels. If they're not required to have them in a specific location, they have ways of making them hidden.
As if you can trust it whether they put it there or not. Really, you can't add text to something? If it gave you lottery numbers you believe you won?
What I hate is fine print for ingredients and safety information (I see this on OTC meds all the time). A lot of brands use a factory code for the expiration date and consumers are unable to decipher it.
You just need your reading glasses, grandpa

So-called natural flavors!
sugar is the big killer. maximum daily intake if at all should be under 5g thats maximum
Good old fashioned wax paper does the same thing but safely
Soon you'll have to study chemistry to know what you eat🤔
