Seriously, what other reason could there be for the FDA not actually doing their job and fulfilling their mandate? There was a time when the world looked to the United States as leaders in so many areas, but now we're finding that we have to look to Europe for something as simple as food safety? So much has got to change and Washington needs to start looking after its citizen's basic welfare first and foremost.

When you consider the fact that tap water has over 85000 toxins. Somethings just can't be boiled out of water or treated with more chemicals. Just think about all the prescription drugs flushed down a toilet. Seafood is high in Mercury and Microplastics, since big agriculture has farmed ALL of the healthy minerals in food, out of the ground, (even healthy foods don't contain even 25% of what they had 50 years ago), they fix it by dumping more metals into the ground without any testing to confirm it makes a difference or if it's healthy, especially since Drugs and Healthcare is the biggest money making scam in American History. Do some real research with your eyes open with an open mind or you're just wasting time. Knowledge is POWER.

I feel like that too, often, but what I'm doing is taking a mitigated approach. I ask a series of cascading questions whenever replacing something that's a major threat or that's used up and needs replacing anyway. Think of this as being like a Q/A organizational chart.
      1. Is it something that can be replaced at all? Yes - keep asking questions. No - then don't worry about it. (Renters have to go through this step, homeowners do not.)
2a. Does it go in my mouth? Yes - it gets replaced. No - move that piece forward one place on this stupid "Q/A" gameboard.
2b. Do I breath it in (such as bug sprays, cleaners, etc)? Same thing.
2c. Does it touch my body or go on something that touches my body? Same thing.
3a. Does it pollute the outside environment just by existing at all? Same thing.
3b. Does it touch anything that touches my clothing? Same thing.
      4. Was it manufactured? Same thing.
It'll cost me thousands of dollars to replace everything, but it'll also probably take a decade or more to accomplish that, and those are dollars I would have (at least mostly) spent anyway, just on garbage that can make me sick or even kill me. I think it's worth the effort, so long as the old garbage is thrown out and not hoarded.

They are literally killing us!! You have GOT TO realize this, NOW.
The worst ingredient I've recently found in food : sucralose, like Splenda. It's "allowed " in food and the FDA says it's a "non nutritive." No, it's indigestible and makes you feel sick all over and some baaad side effects! ( No, you DON'T have "exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. " - that's a lie from he11, so they can sell more pills. Wake up, good people! !) See Dr Axe and see Women's health website. FDA has to goooooo! Big pharma is killing us. They have to go, too. I realized this about sucralose by accident. About a year and a half ago, i changed the way i ate. I began eating just one good meal per day, eating real whole foods and drastically limiting sugars, carbs, processed and fast 'foods'.
I lost about 60 pounds of excess fluids and body fat in the first 2 - 3 months. I also reversed every chronic health condition that plagued me for decades! I was no longer obese. Gone was my fatty liver condition. The edema, or swelling in my feet and lower legs was gone. My cellulitis was gone. My occasional hypertension was gone. The frequent late night urination stopped. My COPD symptoms were gone, and i still smoke modestly. Imagine that. I also suffered with peripheral neuropathy in the feet. That was the most stubborn condition, but that has also finally subsided. My testosterone levels increased, and i stopped losing teeth. The teeth that remain are stronger and healthier. I doubt i will ever lose another tooth, and would bet the farm that my bones are also stronger. My hair and skin are better. It is like aging in reverse!
I also do get exercise, but that had nothing to do with the weight loss. I do walking, yard work, squats, push ups and light to moderate weight training to name a few. Did you know that employees of pharma and food-related companies are supposed to wait one year before joining the fed agency that oversaw their industry? The crisis -- this is too often ignored and before the Bush Cheney admin, there was a required 3 year wait. That wait makes it harder for companies to install its company loyalists in federal agencies in order to pass favourable regulations to that company -- or to kill regulations that benefit the average consumer American but at the expense of company profits.
Demand that company employees wait 1 year before joining the government and help reduce corruption and save American lives. Yes, your vote and voice really do matter.

From Reese's peanut butter cups, to cupcake papers to fast food wrappers and so on. It's used to help keep oil from seeping into the wrapper and making the packaging look greasy. PFAS chemicals (it is a group of similar compounds, not just one chemical), due to their water--repelling qualities, are in many, many products that you use every day, and have used for decades. Anything waterproof (clothes, rain gear, plastics, vinyls, umbrellas), non-stick cookware, soaps and detergents, firefighting foam, and anything Teflon, has PFAS/PFOS compounds in it. It is this water-repelling property that makes these compounds so useful---and ubiquitous. Of course there are PFAS in your food: the chemicals are used to prevent your food from sticking to the machinery that makes it, your plastic utensils that you eat with, and your non-stick cookware that you cook with. .These compounds are everywhere. I am in the environmental field, and only now are regulatory gencies starting to look for these groups of chemicals called PFAS/PFOS, and guess what? They're several decades too late. They're everywhere, And due to their structure---they're loaded with fluorine atoms whose chemical bonds with other atoms are extremely strong--these chemicals don't degrade. Yup, we've put our foot in it this time. Enjoy the ride, folks.

As a person with Crohn’s, I have to be very care of additives, preservatives and many ingredients in food.
Years ago, my inflammation throughout my body was so bad I decided I was going to figure it out.
First I stopped eating meat for 2 weeks-noticeable improvement
Second-eliminated chips and starch snacks (my faves)-after a month, my so called diagnosed Fibromyalgia disappeared after years of struggles.
Then I started identifying many other foods that caused the pain and inflammation.
Originally I thought there was no rhyme or reason on what foods bothered me and which didn’t….until I did a deep drive study on ingredients.
Our food is killing us and it’s a vicious cycle that no one cares about but the individual.
The work I did for myself took a lot of time and education, but has made all the difference in the world in how I feel….until I became a big eater of sweets out of nowhere.

This isn’t from food packaging either, pfas are in basically everyone’s drinking water and there is nothing anyone can or will do. All of this takes literally a 60 second google search to discover. But let’s drop a sensational headline and call ourselves journalists. You were no more informed from this than you were before and no actual journalism happened. As a young employee 30 years ago, I was sent to a food manufacturers convention to staff an exhibit booth. I remember seeing one vendor there who proudly sold all these flavorings and had them displayed in huge jars. That's where I learned about "Natural Flavors"... that those words are a copyrighted name of a product, NOT a generic adjective/noun describing a category of non-processed spices. Natural Flavors was the MOST disgusting-looking jar on the table. It was a bright, almost neon orangey-brown color that looked totally fake. I've tried to avoid it ever since, but don't have a whole lot of success.

Debora Henderson: PFAS chemicals are synthetic chemicals which don’t exist in nature. Before their manufacture started in late 1940s, no PFAS were present in the environment. Now they contaminate every corner of the globe and have been found in the blood of people and wildlife worldwide.
PFOA stands for Perfluorooctanoic Acid. It is one chemical that belongs to the large family of over 4,500 fluorinated substances known as PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). PFAS are extremely stable and can repel both grease and water making them extremely useful in a wide variety of products.
Exposure to PFOA has been linked to six major health issues: kidney cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis, and pregnancy-induced hypertension. These links were found by the US C8 Science Panel, which is referenced in the film ‘Dark Waters’. Chemicals from the PFAS family have been linked to other health issues, including reduced response to vaccines and lower birth weights. In the EU, PFOA was classified as toxic to reproduction in 2017 and the restriction for PFOA and related substances entered into force in July 2020.
PFOA and other PFAS chemicals are extremely persistent in the environment, thanks to a special carbon-fluorine bond. This specific carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest bonds in nature. As a result of this bond, PFAS chemicals do not break down easily and will persist in the environment for decades. This has earned PFAS the nickname the forever chemicals. This persistence is concerning because it means that current pollution from PFOA and other PFAS chemicals could build up and impact generations that are not even born yet.
PFAS chemicals are also extremely mobile. They can pass easily through normal drinking water treatment facilities to contaminate drinking water and can build up in the edible parts of fruits and vegetables. Their mobility means that they have been found in every corner of the globe, including the Arctic and Antarctic.
Though the impact of exposure to PFAS on wildlife is less studied, some PFAS have also been linked to negative impacts on the reproductive, hormonal and immunological systems in wildlife.
PFOA is believed to be in the blood of 99% of humans. This figure comes from the US, however studies in the UK and around the world also show that almost everyone has chemicals from the PFAS family in their body.
PFOA and other PFAS chemicals are present in our bodies because we are exposed to them daily through consumer products that contain PFAS (e.g. food packaging, non-stick cookware, cosmetics, furniture) and via environmental exposure (including from drinking water, indoor air, and certain foods). Some PFAS chemicals, including PFOA, are bioaccumulative. This means they can build up in the human body over time because they are absorbed but not excreted.

They use sugar in desserts and snacks, while we use corn syrup mostly, but sugar is used extensively as well. Sometimes we use several kinds of sugar in one product. I will be 66 in about a week, and use absolutely no pharmaceutical products, prescribed or over the counter for any reason whatsoever. I am healthier and stronger now than i was ten years ago.
I do these things to maintain strength and muscle mass. I have been trying to help others who want to lose weight and get healthier - whoever will listen that is.

I read a story about food dyes that said that the guy who worked at the FDA who was in charge of determining if food dyes were safe or not pushed to get food dyes approved despite that most red or yellow colors contain carcinogens. The argument was that such small amounts should be safe.... so it was approved. Look at the ingredient labels today though. Almost anything you eat that is red, yellow or orange has food dyes in it (especially sweets and candy). Today, just like sugar, it is in almost everything. This means we are consuming far more than what they considered 'safe' back when it was initially approved. Also, in recent years there has been a huge upswing in cancers in cats and dogs pets. This is because they were putting large amounts of food dyes in animal foods. If you look now at a lot of pet foods they will say "no food dyes" because they have started removing them from the foods because they know that is what is causing the cancer! Oh and the guy that worked for the FDA that pushed getting the dyes approved? After it was approved he quit and took a new job for... yep... the dye company! Sugar is another thing that is killing us. New research is showing that it is sugar, not fat that causes heart disease. When the body takes in sugar or carbs (Carbs turn into sugar in the body) the body creates insulin to use the sugar for energy. Problem is, we eat way more sugar than we need so we get fat and eventually, type 2 diabetes. On the way though, too much insulin is an irritant to our arteries which is what allows the cholesterol to stick to the artery wall and cause blockages. The sugar industry has paid out a LOT of money trying to suppress this. Someday they are going to get nailed, just like the tobacco industry did, wait and see.

To make products shelf stable, food needs to be either acidic, salty or sweet unless they’re considered canned food. In many cases natural flavors are extractives of spices or blends of seasonings and they’re only added at a tiny amount like below 1%. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

My COPD symptoms were gone, and i still smoke modestly. Imagine that. I also suffered with peripheral neuropathy in the feet. That was the most stubborn condition, but that has also finally subsided.
