Cleaning mold that was on my bedroom window without wearing a proper mask sent me to the hospital. I was on a bipap machine for a week after developing pneumonia and was on oxygen for a month after I was discharged from the hospital. Scary stuff….make sure to properly protect yourself before attempting to clean mold!

Thank you so much for putting this together in such a clear and informative manner!
I have been chasing after root cause of chronic sinus infections, skin breakouts/redness and fatigue for years now.
We have a major mold issue at our apartment since we moved here a few years ago, but as the property management refused to address it, we just clean it outselves on a daily basis.
I've been to so many doctors appointments, prescribed treatments which alleviate symptoms for a while, but then I'm back to square one.
I used to be asthmatic as a child, then grew out of it by my late teens. Now at 41, my asthma is back.
I never considered a potential correlation between my symptoms and our mold/dampness issue until I stumbled across this video
I'm going to get tested for mycotoxins!
I will let you how it goes! Thanks again!

Im certain my mother has and is still dying of thirty years of black mold exposure. No one in the medical industry will listen to me. My step father left no gutters on the house for 25 years. Have electric heating walls. Black mold would develop in ac and build up on shower curtain within days. Ive told her and my step father, idk how many tines, and they both act like I'm saying a conspiracy theory. Now that ive been staying here for past ten years, same symptoms that started with my mom are happening to me. She had an allergy test done like 15 years ago and black mold was the top of the list. I've told all family members many times, doctors, nurses and even complete strangers. Im working on getting my own place again. I've been staying here to help them. I've warned them. Now i must go. I've tried everything. Thought about telling the story and do go fund me to help them. My stepfather knows. Thats the scary part. He wont admit. I thought about tearing out the walls to expose.

It doesn't help that a lot of mold mitigation companies won't tell people that it will not get rid of mold spores that got into wall studs, etc. It travels widely into even fairly solid materials as the chemicals of meth cooking also does. It does NOT stay just on the surface and may reappear much later after cleaning. Builders are now using a sheathing on many newer houses that is as easy to tear as the posterboard your school kids make posters out of. Instead of the inch or so thickness proper sheathing good builders use. When trades come in later to run the electrical wiring and plumbing they often tear it. Leaving the holes or just taping it, letting moisture and vermin access. Great educational video! It makes me wonder how many are on meds for anxiety when it is mold at fault.

I am surprised that lungs & sputum testing were not mentioned. Ten years ago my house was infected w mold and remediated professionally, including the removal of 4 walls. Later, after 4 years of worsening symptoms, I was diagnosed with Mycobacterium Avium Complex. Treatment involved 21 months of three different antibiotics. I feel better now but continue to see a pulmonologist due to continued infections caused by other bacteria & fungus, confirmed by a recent bronchoscopy. Again, I find it curious that lungs weren’t mentioned in this video.

We have a heat pump, which we love, but it started throwing out black flakes last winter. We had a fellow come clean it, and there were literal chunks coming out as he hosed it out! Within a month it started again. The third time, we had a bigger company come to clean it, and discovered that the other fellow hadn't taken it fully apart - There was a whole section inside that was coated in mold, so it just kept repopulating it. Hopefully it's gone now, and maybe someone will see this comment who needs to know that even heat pumps can grow black mold. No one told us. Looking back, my sinus issues started within a year of having it installed, and have been ongoing for over 8 years now. Fingers crossed that now it's been cleaned, my sinuses can start to heal.
The pros told us: If you have a heat pump or other AC unit, after you turn off the AC or dehumidifer feature, keep its fan running on high for at least two hours so it dries its coil.

Hi Dr. Lewis, Will try and keep this brief. Moved into an old apartment building 8 months ago. 1) Due to previous leaking kitchen faucet, entire cabinets have been saturated and collapsing. Extreme blackened manufactured wood and wall where visible. Gives off a nasty odor that is overpowering particularly winter months as all windows are closed. 2) Bedroom closets backing onto bathroom have an overpowering smell that both sodium bicarbonate and odor absorber product just cannot seem to control. Clothes are impregnated with the smell. 3) Rooftop exhaust fan connecting 6 floors tends to fail during winds and atmospheric air pressure thus allowing fine dust, small clumps of dust and even human hair shavings to spill back into my bathroom. With the bathroom, I am concerned of potential dust mite's, mold and other bacteria.
The Kitchen I believe is black mold.
The closets I have no idea but may be relative to previous bathroom leakages and parquet floor tiles and inner walls saturated and left????
Finally.... I was shocked to recognize many of those symptoms!
Any thoughts from you and or other viewers???

🌈Landlords are required to keep the dwelling safe. If they have an available replacement, you can stay there while the repairs are being completed. Many Tenancy Laws state that rent is required only if the property is safe and inhabitable. Your Health Dept. can inspect and determine it’s safety. Got to make real big decisions to change your environment. Employer not worried about work environment being dangerous to your life, making your life miserable and ruining your health, is short of wisdom, considering (even if he is compassionate) that you can't work how he needs you to work and it's his fault for ignoring things for too long because it's too big of a problem... don't work there, not your problem anymore. Your health is #1. Same goes for landlords. Got to go somewhere that respects reality enough to not allow you to be exposed to toxins. No brainer, just leave.

Thanks for the info,I have had issues with black mold for years,I lived on a boat and got sick and went to the ER, my heart was working on three chambers and I was admitted to the hospital for three days.
When I got out of the hospital I checked my boat and under the mattress was black mold. I scrubbed it with white vinegar and didn't have a problem after that. I lost my job because I was out of work for four days, they hired a young man to do it.
Last year I was staying with my sister in a motel room and the air mattress was soaked from water leaking under the wall. I was down for three days again, but I realized it was from black mold.
I have been having issues with my sinuses since then and coughing and I have been trying to get rid of it. It's probably from the black mold in my body now

I moved into a place in Miami (very wet climate) six months ago and the moment I walked in here I noticed a sort of musty smell. During rainy season I noticed the ceiling in the bathroom leaking through a light fixture. I’m almost positive that the roof and ceiling are full of mold.
My symptoms have been watery eyes, my asthma symptoms have returned, I have a constant tickling feeling, I sometimes even feel almost ADHD like symptoms. I am moving out in 3 days into a newly remodeled apartment and cannot wait to feel normal again.
Mold is so dangerous and I’m highly allergic to it. I can just feel it that it’s here in this structure.

I worked at a 3-story building whereas the basement was the 1st floor. It always smelled so musky on the 1st floor. If one can visualize this, the stairwell to the 2nd floor was in the middle of the 1st floor, so my office wall was also the wall of one side of the stairwell toward my lower level. That part of the wall was closed in with drywall. One day, this very overweight female fell down the stairs 2 levels, and the backside of her body went thru the drywall landing in an office on the 1st floor (thru the drywall). She was fine and not hurt. . This is when we found the source of the musky smell. The drywall laying on the floor and the inside material of that wall was covered in black mold. We would have never known about the mold if this lady never fell down the stairs. Our employer completely ripped out the entire stairwell and rebuilt it with everyone's persistence, and they also ripped out the walls around the offices on the 1st floor. Sadly, this employer never responded to our concerns for years and when this happened, they had to get this all cleaned up, and we all felt much better. .

To some degree less or more, we all are no doubt have something around us have been affected and inflicted by mold in our resting place, our home. Identifying these Mycotoxins is only just the beginning. Treating a symptom can be like over coming an addiction or failure to keep fridges clean where molds can affect the food we prepare. In which case food can colonize other foods. What a vicious circle!

I can “smell” mold. Long story short I started having severe respiratory problems months BEFORE a substantial amount of mold showed up on our bathroom’s walls. I first thought it might be due to high humidity (we live in the Oregon forest) but the smell and coughing was most prominent in our bedroom next to the bathroom. When the mold showed on the wall we called a a plumber who said “no water leaks detected”, so my husband cracked the shower’s wall and found a busted pipe where the water was pouring like an open faucet directly into the crawl space. Restoration and repairs were partially covered by the insurance but we had to borrow $50k to pay for the rest. ALL of my respiratory problems faded completely away immediately.

Some members died until one day, they found the answer: mold. Behind the wooden panels attached to the walls, there was black mold that had caused this health issues. I hadn't known how dangerous it was until then. My parents first flat was very moldy (wheb i was a baby), so they had to move. And later, after their divorce, my sisters room and moms was infested by mold, too. And later, my room. I really hope, it won't have negative effects that might show up in the future.

The reality is that admitting the widespread health impacts of mold would disrupt many powerful industries, from construction to insurance. If mold were universally recognized as a significant health hazard, it would force a reckoning with building standards and environmental regulations that would be expensive and complex to address. This would open the door to massive financial liability and potential legal battles for property owners and corporations.
Many symptoms related to mold exposure-like respiratory problems, fatigue, and cognitive issues-are often brushed aside as nonspecific or attributed to other conditions. This creates a convenient loophole where those affected find it hard to get the acknowledgment or treatment they need, and accountability for mold contamination is rare. The pushback comes from a system trying to maintain the status quo to avoid triggering a chain of responsibility, regulations, and economic shifts.
This is why advocates, whistleblowers, and even concerned doctors can struggle or face pushback when trying to elevate the conversation. The economic and legal stakes are simply too high for powerful interests to let this issue gain traction.

They declared bankruptcy to get out of paying for the damage. Black mold showed up all over the walls in a couple weeks. Nobody would help. The Dr said just live there as no one wants to help. Hey Dr. Lewis, i’m 29 years old, and when I sleep at night depending on which side I lay on, that sinus gets blocked every night. It only happens when I sleep. If I turn in the night it drains to the other side blocking that passage. During the day my sinuses are fine. But I also get really painful sinus pressure migraines about 10 random times a year usually when the temperature or humidity tends to drop at least 15 points overnight. I’m at the point where I now have what looks like hypopigmentation directly over my sinus passages on each side of my nose. It is more visible on one side more than the other, and I usually sleep on that side always waking up with a blocked sinus passage. The skin directly over my sinus passage doesn’t tan and has lost pigmentation and is more visible in the summer. I’ve had this for about 8 years which has slowly become more noticeable over time. Do you think this could be related to what you’re talking about? The doctors i’ve been to have just told me allergies and gave me over the counter advill decongestion tablets I was on for 5 yrs that I believe ruined my gut. I cut those out and all processed food changing my diet to no wheat, dairy, or rice, recommended by another doctor for 2 years and that didn’t help. Then I discovered long dry fasting of not eating or drinking anything for a number of days at a time and that cleared my sinuses at night when sleeping to where I could lay on any side without being blocked up, but when I broke the fast within a day it was back.I have no fatigue and haven’t had a cold in 5 years. I am able to easily workout and am fine other than this related issue i’ve described. I’m in the Chicago suburbs and wondering is there anyone you know around me you could possibly recommend or what steps I can do to heal myself. White male, 170 lbs, no allergies to anything and i’ve cut out every type of food little by little trying to figure this out. Any help will be truly grateful cause i’m pretty desperate at this point now that it’s effecting my appearance. Thanks for your time

Try taking Vitamin D3, Magnesium and Zinc. I had horrible hyperpigmentation (large patches of dermal melasma on my cheeks at the side of my nose) and doing research made me discover it was an adrenal issue. I started taking these vitamins, putting Desitin (has a lot of zinc) cream on my face at night for a few hours, and occasionally took Salus Structured Silver. It got rid of it completely. Also, if you’re concerned about mold, there are mold test kits you can buy at your local hardware store. It’s worth the peace of mind.

If you live in an older home; if you live in a humid environment, or if you are sensitive, an ozone generator is your friend. Run it 30 minutes once a month - but - it is a tool that must be used correctly! Leave the house and let your pets outside while it is working. Ozone is a gas that will penetrate fabrics, carpets, and even drywall to get into the studs of walls and insulation. Mold is an easy thing to remedy but don't try to clean it - that is dangerous. Don't bother testing - mold and it's cousin, mildew are here to stay; you will never be rid of it but ozone will deactivate it and it's toxins. ...and leave your house smelling fresh and clean.

Less dust . Less coughing. Less sneezing. Better all round atmosphere but wish I had bought one 10 years ago.
No more mold and wet windows in the mornings clothes are better aired not musty.
3.34 kw of power used per 24 hours and it's always raining in the uk .

What are your thoughts?

    • @dr.robinlewis

Had a Mail away test done and that came back with Alternaria, Cladosporium, Rhodororula. Of the thee the Alrernaria seem to be the most worrying. But I’m not sure if those could cause my symptoms?

I used to live in an appartmet that i am sure had mold. It always smelled musty and I would get a lot of sneeze attacks like allergies. After I moved, that went away.

I think I also got exposed to mold while cleaning my fridge which got mold when we were away for a vacation. My doc has recommended some antibiotics to me but I am worried that this will not fix it, it's been around 1.5 months. My eyes have been more sensitive to light and I feel tired. Should I get tested for it? What kind of doctor should I make an appointment to?

You would need to go to a functional medicine doctor or naturopathic doctor. Call ahead to make sure they do it. Antibiotics are for bacteria so if it’s mold they won’t help.

It’s the mold preventing treatments they put in the buildings now, that still grow mold, but more a “super mold” and by the mold consuming these chemicals they release a chemical byproduct in the air as well.

Wrong...Mold has always been with us yes and most are fine however some are very toxic and mimic alot of diseases. Mycotoxins are not taught about because they make more money by misdiagnosing and treating symptoms vs. Treating the root cause. It's all about money

To this day I have had problems breathing and ever time I ask my drs to test they do and say everything is fine. I am at a loss

Can you still have mold symptoms years after leaving a home that was infested ?

Yes sir, not saying every AC unit had it but it can be a place for mold.

    • @waleyefish9026

The A/C units collect condensation by removing humidity from the air. The mold spores love to live on the blower wheel. I had a window unit that was spitting tiny black balls out of the vent. The balls that looked like coffee grounds were chuck full of mold.

Central Air units can be fitted with UVC light over the evaporator coil. You can also install an air scrubber in the AC ducting.

I threated my walls with some mold cleaner, let it dry when the weather was warm, then used a special mold colour for walls and sealed it with a water-proof varnish. There is also varnish or lacqueur for other materials like wood, the mold don't grow easy on it, and when it grows, it's easy to clean. It may not disappear, but it will be less mold.

Interesting topic Doc. I know that molds are eucaryotes multicellular fongii capable of reproducing sexually or via budding & can cause health problems. But since they're also related to their single cell cousins the baker's yeast or saccharomyces cerevisiae, what advice do you have for French bakers like me for long term expossure to the common bakers' yeast? Can yeast find its way into your lungs, blood, survive your stomach PH & cause problems? I want to make dough not die :)

    • @dr.robinlewis
      @dr.robinlewis  22 дня назад +1

It’s entirely different and to my knowledge not something that is a major health concern! I don’t believe bakers yeast releases any mycotoxins.
