When ever I watch videos of the Supreme's, I always find that I can't take my eyes off of Mary Wilson. She is a beautiful woman and she was a great dancer! Very very smooth!
ME TOO!!!! my eyes go there and stay there
Diana very laid back here. No pulling faces and popping of eyes. Love it. Love the 1968 fashion too.
Too laid back, like she was depressed or something.
1968.......women were still women.........and gorgeous!!!
I know Cindy is here, but it is Flo we hear. 🤣🤣
Bless miss Cindy. She looks stunning. 😍😍
Yes it is Flo on the vocal
Mary Wilson just passed. Thank you for the music!
This played over the speakers at the market the other day and I never thought I would hear something like this played there, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise.
Three very easy on the eye and talented ladies performing one of those special sixties songs that instantly makes you feel glad to be alive... what's not to like?
On this day in 1967 {May 22nd} the Supremes performed this song on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show...
One month earlier on April 8th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; on May 13th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 11 sweeks in the Top 100.
Reached #12 on Billboard's R&B chart
This Tonight Show performance marked the last time Florence Ballard appeared with the Supremes...
Florence Ballard passed away on February 22nd, 1976 at the young age of 32...
R.I.P. Ms. Ballard and Mr. Carson...
Was it The Tonight Show or The Ed Sullivan Show with Flo's final appearance with The Supremes?
For some reason, this song popped into my mind today, (January 2017), so I had to hear it!
Mary Wilson was incredible....watch closely and you can see that she is actually a cut above Ross in her moves, style and talent ....as good as Ross is it's too bad she got all the attention......an ers never to be repeated......
Hear singing ,but wow ! Mary Wilson was very beautiful she look like she came of of a dream 🥰🤩🥰
They are all winner though 🙂
April 1967 saw The Supremes as our Spring Concert at Univ. of Tenn. sing The Happening, released one month earlier in March, and many more songs. Great performance!
Are you kidding me? Star quality in every respect. Love it!!!
Great performance. That Florence Ballard was one long drink of water!
Flo was a BRICK HOUSE...built like an Amazon 😍❤️❤️❤️
Cindy Birdsong is in this video.
1957 thru 1969 should just repeat over and over in an endless loop
Casey Kasem Agreed 🌋
I want my groundhog day/year to be 1964
Sleeping because the world as we know today sucks.
Yes! Racism 😍
Supreme by name Supreme by their singing YES ? DO YOU AGREE??? Brilliant!!!
Sure miss my generation of great music.
thats so sweet! i love this music!
always the year 67! The year i was born! Great year for music!
Diana had that innate sense of swing that enables her to ride this awesome arrangement to a perfect musical summit.
I love Flo Ballard
I do too
But she’s not in the video unfortunately
Brilliant. Thank you for posting an old video clip!
Very beautiful and talented women.
Mary is so pretty..met her at an Oldies concert..the best ones!! She was friendly, down to earth☺👍👌Mali n Jim. 3. 5. 2019
I was only 7 years old when I heard this song, and I have LOVED it ever since. :-) Thanks so much for posting.
+hulk7272 I was 7 years old also when this song came out.
I was also 7 when it came out, and I was totally in love with the song at the time as well.
It is very clear that Mary Wilson was the best dancer in the group.....wow! Go Mary!
In FEBRUARY 16, 2015 the CBS TV Network transmitted the 2 hour ALL STAR GRAMMY tribute to the new 2015 GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD inductees Mr. Stevie Wonder!
Front and center was THE SUPREMES LIVING LEGACY Miss Mary Wilson both as a presenter and at closing directly behind Stevie!
Diane Ross was missing in action and no references made to her, Berry Gordy was spotted by the cameras in passing once in the 2 hour transmission and no reference made to him, to Motown yes but not to him:-)
Diane WHO?
DetroitLives313 you should watch the supremes stoned love she dancing so classy
ledell30
I have a video up of them doing that classic song. You are right, Mary and the music are one!
DetroitLives313 she should have became a dancer for funk and gospel music instead of being Diana ross and berry gordy pupetty
ledell30
FYI.....Ms Mary Wilson has done quite well!
Inducted into "The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and Museum" with the same status of Diane Ross & Florence Ballard as "THE SUPREMES"'
She's United States Government "appointed" Cultural Ambassadors, a great honor and today in 2016 because her unbendable determination and work preserving the legacy of the still # 1 FEMALE TRIO of all times, THE SUPREMES she's considered in the industry as the groups "LIVING LEGACY" :-)
A song about life . . . They were supreme.
So true
I was young back then. It been 47 year or more scent I heard that old song.
by the supremes. in 1967.
I remember this song in the Summer of 1967. I was 16years old then and in boarding school in England.
Sugarlove: the 60's was just a great time for music. Period. I was born in '57 and this is the music of my childhood. And I just love the Supremes
I was born the same year and I absolutely feel the same way 💯💯💯
In grade 5, I used to listen to Motown and soul music on my transistor radio. :)
Nan Fagan Amen, sister! Me, too!
Me too, June '57 , miss those day badly.
The song was the theme of a movie titled "The Happening" in 1967. A bunch of beatniks accidently kidnap a mafia chief but no one wants to pay the ransom. A comedy with Milton Berle playing a role. The song by the Supremes is sung at the opening and was released as a single and was a major chart hit.
The movie flopped, this song hit Number 1 in the US...
An unusual song. Very cool!
I don't usually like this sort of music but I have always liked this song, great sound !!!!
Their number one song in the US, in 1967.
I have always said that this is their lesser-known hit record. You hear this on oldies stations MUCH less than their better-known hits.
Wow she was so beautiful here.
i just felt compelled to hear this song it was in my head. love the upbeat flow
i could watch this over and over
why doesn't youtube have a "repeat" button ?
Can't get enough of this song. Or them.
why cant we have groups like this today ggrreat
MOD realness...Mary & Diane with the go-go boots & patterned mini sets and Cindy with the badass belted pantsuit. Very on-brand for 1968.
just another great Supremes song with the unforegettable Supreme sound and a movie soundtrack and one of the very few times i can remember seeing the Supremes led by Miss Ross wearing something wonderfully fashionable of the pschydelic sixties . Unusual for the Supremes who had always worn beautiful sequined gowns and dresses
everybody who watches pleas watch the Ed Sullivan version to watch Florence Ballard's last performance as an original Supreme.
Yep, saw that. I think “Awkward Ed,” forgot the name of the group,”and now, the girls!!”
Someone Took it down
Sky Diamond I just watched it on 2/23/21.👍🏻
Guido Fawkes He say's the "Supreme Girls," when people are cheering, and clapping. He is calling them the girls, endearly.
this is so awesome. i was born way too late. there's nothing great happening now. the 60s seem magical to me
this and love child, i feel are their best songs, but its all relative. the supremes will always be with us.
Absolutely brilliant 💕💓👌
On this day in 1967 {May 7th} the Supremes performed "The Happening" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show' {the show originated from the Montreal Expo '67 Worlds Fair}...
One month earlier on April 2nd, 1967 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at #57; and on May 7th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #12 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart...
Its 1 week stay at #1 prevented "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley from reaching #1, it peaked at #2 for just 1 week...
"The Happening" was the last in a string of four straight #1 records on the Top 100 by the trio; started with "You Can't Hurry Love" {for 2 weeks}, "You Keep Me Hangin' On" {for 2 weeks}, "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" {for 1 week}, and finally this one...
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass' instrumental version entered the chart on July 2nd, 1967 at #76; it peaked at #32 {for 1 week} on July 30th and that was its final week on the Top 100...
Supremes,best Girl Group Ever
diana ross is a beast, what an iconic figure in the history of music.
Amazing! Thank you for posting this!
amen!!!
Diana had such style and charisma. The Supremes regularly knocked the Beatles from the #1 spot on charts. Beyonce, you could NEVER.
+McQueenPress So true. They don't need half-naked dancers on stage either. They were fabulous!
+McQueenPress Nothing classy about todays efforts, these girls would and could still knock em dead.
i mean Beyonce has the potential, but she is brainwashed into the nudity of today's music
And, there is the musicianship.
McQueenPress youre sooo right about that!amen lol
It's hard to believe that Diana Ross will be 71 a week from tomorrow (March 26). She doesn't look 71.
A Happening is an event that is extrodinary unique; in how it can by occurring that can change a person's life for the better.
you can clearly hear florence on this recording, shes also on the recording of reflections and love is here and now you're gone.
Darling, you're "RIGHT ON"!!!!!!
This are THE SUPREMES (Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson & the runt of the litter, the backstabbing, conniving & conniving Diane Ross) all material pre recorded before Berry & Diane "ousted & replaced" Flo Ballard!!!!
TWTR4EVER
I think this was a great song. I am glad that Florence had a chance to showcase some vocal in this song. I know that they had their issues but these were some classy ladies. I loved their style.
Iconic and timeless! 🤗💗💗💗
I have heard and read a lot about this song. It a great song and catchy - lets face it we can all read whatever you want into music, and lyrics, I love it, far better that a lot of what in the music market today.:-)
What have you heard about this song? Anything interesting?
ok. love to be able to see that clip one day too. thanks for posting. love the supremes.
Wow! Great video. Thanks a lot for sharing
Real music
FABULOUS!!!
Three fine ladies singin' fine music!
It was filmed in a studio in Portugal for Spanish television.
Love the outfits! Unusual to see them not all wearing the same thing. It's interesting to see this performance with Cindi compared to the same song on the Ed Sullivan Show with Florence.
It's now 1968 (a comment below dates this to Jan. '68), so now things have loosened up to where the three singers don't have to be dressed identically, and they can move individually instead of always in unison. I like it.
It was 1967.
Love this song!
Mary looks great, love her long arms and pretty face, she was such a sweetheart ;-)
She was the best dancer in my opinion.
hey life look at me;))))) oh yeaaaaa
So bubbly!
Cindy was a step behind this whole damn performance...
Yes So cool!!
i love the happening ;)
Is very nice!!!!
when are people going to start making good music again ?
LITERALLY
What? 👀
Thanks for the reply. The Tonight Show clip is on You Tube, but You Tube won't allow posting of web site addresses. In that clip Florence is shown with Diana & Mary singing The Happening...
how come sad song can make you feel insanely happy?
and if you just read the words it is a very sad song.........but sang with a perky lively melody
Diana Ross went to the same High School that I went to R.C. Hatch School Uniontown Alabama, have to love her!
Huh? Is she not ftom Detriot Michigan?
This music is of the highest quality possible.
In 1967, I was carrying a glass bottle of soda ( the Graduate, and the famous "Plastics" line was still in the future) into the house for my Mom when this song came on the radio of the car. I was so excited by Motown music that I started running, the bottle dropped and shattered on the sidewalk. I was cut to shreds.
For years afterwards, I hated this song, but I know now that it is just because of this incident.
You must be refurring to the stunning Mary Wilson!
Mary just celebrated the big 70 on March 6 - live long and well
1968 Beach Club del Marbella Club Hotel, 3 de la madrugada, la pista se vuelve loca de alegría, ¡¡vaya público!!! Saludos al Conde Rudy desde aquí, agradecido.
I love it the outfits are so cute and this is my favorite Summers song
@2:00 Mary Priceless :) Gawd will people quit picking? Diana is obviously a mega star, The Group together Flo, Mary and Diana left a awesome legacy, I think Flo got a raw deal, But you cannot have the supremes with out them all. Diana was destined to soar beyond and on, and thats no distraction from Flo or Mary
ooh ooh! ooh ooh! Beware of The Happening! I Woke Up, Suddenly I Just Woke Up,, to "THE HAPPENING!- love it...GO MARY WILSON!
cindy birdsong is in the video although it was flo that sang on the released recording
they sang a lot of DMF songs with Cindy
@@seanthomas6766 mimed. you can always tell if its florence
I love you girls (The Supremes) Diana you are still the one.
Psychedelicsoul..Wow!!
LOL Mary Wilson from 2:00 - 2:07 :)
Just too on point! The steps are so ON POINT! 😁
I was 5 years old and remember just about every song that was a hit. I must have been in a coma for a few months because I have NO memory of this song what so ever and I am a huge Supreme's fan. Or so I thought. :-) I was looking up their US #1's and this popped up. wtf?
i believe this song was in a movie in the 60's. my parents took me to a drive-in, remember those, the happening
From 1967 movie "The Happening" with Anthony Quinn,Michael Parks, George Maharis, Robert Walker Jr. and Faye Dunaway. www.imdb.com/title/tt0061748/
Man, Diana can really charm you with those big eyes of hers. She got me.
So upbeat and groovie
The best part is that no one could dance to this type of music except the singers at the time. Most women would be doing the beach blanket bingo. From fast and furious to slow and silky smooth.
oooooo and then it haapeeeend...
well said :)
The era of the mini-skirt. Love it, not complaining at all. Lol
Wow...As old as this performance is, it is hard to realize Florence is already gone. They made Cindy Birdsong look just like Flo for this appearance. Both were such natural performers.
Yeah I was just sitting there running the dates in my head trying to decide if that was Cindy or Flo!
That Diana Ross had the cutest sounding voice! This was also the name of a movie with Anthony Quinn as a kidnapped gangster.
magovenor: I remember that movie and this song in that madcap movie !!! you're telling your age....and MINE! LOL LOL !!!!
At least this song was better than the movie of the same name, yep, there was a movie.
ITS HAPPENING!!!!!!!
please take me back to the 60s
Mary had the moves! She was always the best dancer.
Florence's last appearance on a record. What a tragic life for such a gifted voice!
That looks like Cindy birdsong
Yes it was; at least in Spain as this was their first visit in their european tour (now without Florence). This was January 1968 for the musical program Teleritmo.
She went to Cass Tech HS in Detroit.
