the youth of today don.t deserve the music we had in our youth. we had manners and respect and the music then was ours. . NOT MANUFACTURED . PURE MOTOWN.
I LOVE hearing the musicians do their thing, it's fascinating. This was the single best dance song The Supremes recorded in my opinion. It just plain cooks ! The xylophone, sax, drums, piano, and that killer bass-line make this one of the very best Motown singles among many. Thanks for doing these extended instrumental mixes and letting us hear the magic of Motown without vocal interference, it's fantastic!
Because 1) it had a more gutsy sound to it, and 2) Diana's "growl" at 2'22" which was - for some - too "guttural" and not the sound they expected from the "refined" Supremes. She sounded "Black" and people wanted to forget that the Supremes were actually Black women. That was more a sound for Martha and the Vandellas. You notice the very next song went back to the soft melody of "I Hear A Symphony." And The Supremes once again shot back to #1 ("Love is Like an Itching.." actually stalled at #11, as most of us know).
Actually, "Love Is Like An Itching in My Heart" did make the Top 10 and stalled at #9. I agree that it should have been a #1 hit by them. It's one of my favorites! 💙💖
I Gather that Ivory Joe Hunter was playing Piano, Benny "Papa Zita" Benjamin was on Drums (RIP), and James Jamerson was on Bass but who was on Sax & Xylophone. I was born in 1966 so I didn't know about their legacy until I was a teenager and I saw The Documentary Girl Groups The Story Of A Sound. I almost cried when I saw Standing In The Shadows Of Motown. Such brilliant musicians and got screwed over big time bad.
Motown "Hitsville USA" is so unique. It wasn't unusual to got to church, get your hair cut or live across the street from Motown artist & or musicians & or song writers. It's like an extended family all over Detroit. I can't wait for Hitsville USA reopened with the 5.5 Million Dollar donation from McKenzie Scott
Don’t understand how 164 don’t like this music...scratching my head. This was & still is the best music that came out.. MOTOWN Sound , sound of young America & then... FANIA,, yeah baby!! What a beat... funk brothers... the best

@@alanwilson8407 Thats because The Funk Brothers weren't backing them up live. The Wrecking Crew and what that Chicago genious Curtis Mayfield are the only ones to match that Motown sound. During the British invasion those 3 entities kept America music going. That British invasion threaten to take over music. Luckily Motown , Curtis and The Weecking Crew kept us afloat.
@@johnanderson7711 Are you telling me that perfect percussive sound could have been transferred to live performances? If your answer is yes, then why didn't Gordy make it so?
@@alanwilson1820 I agree it couldn't be transferred. If the Funk Brothers were not backing them.In Chicago at the Regal Theatre ,,Red Saunders backed the shows artist. In New York at the Appolo their band backed the singers. Good bands but not studio musicians like the Funk Brothers, Wrecking Crew or what Mr. Curtis Mayfield was doing here in Chicago.

I should hope that the Young generation that listen to Motown music pass it down to your offsprings it's in a DNA mother Africa.

The Funk Brothers really knew rhythm. I especially like the drums because I was a wannabe drummer in high school, college and in my own rock & roll band. I dance the same way!!!! With rhythm. I am a drummer on the dance floor. I don't miss a beat. Believe me, I do know music.

The importance of this music can't be overestimated Strong dynamic sexy funky music Way over the top The way it's supposed to be
Preach it soulie! Pop culturally speaking the Detroit music scene and especially Motown changed the landscape forever in much the same way the titans of R&R like, Chuck, Fats and Little Richard kick started youth culture as we know it a decade before!
+Ron Rossman That’s rather harsh IMO. I went back to listen more closely and yeah, sometimes the timing can be a bit loose, but to me it suits the rollicking - even reckless - feel of the song. To me, he’s utterly nailed the spirit of it. It’s irresistible. There’s also considering that the original tracks were recorded live (there’s bound to be some human imprecision, even though the Funk Brothers were among the sharpest musicians in the world) and without the isolation possible with today’s multitracks. I can’t claim to have been around when this was initially released, but having grown up with my mom’s Supremes records, I’ve cherished this one for over forty years. I feel it in my blood! 😄 That said, the precision that originated with Moroder and Kraftwerk, and which continues in contemporary digital production, is somewhere in my DNA as well. I’m curious if perhaps you’re applying something closer to that standard here and whether the “flaws” you’re hearing are more technical than musical.
@@cdave2;Exactly, music is getting the spirit of it more than anything more so than it's correctness which great in itself if you can get there. But whose perfect?
I had just arrived at the Presidio in San Francisco, during my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, when this gem of a Supremes song emerged. I immediately rushed and bought he single. I love you mix. Thank you.

Well just maybe if they did have the music we grew up with things might be different in our neighborhoods and schools!!!!
This literally sends shivers up my spine
I LOVE hearing the musicians do their thing, it's fascinating. This was the single best dance song The Supremes recorded in my opinion. It just plain cooks ! The xylophone, sax, drums, piano, and that killer bass-line make this one of the very best Motown singles among many. Thanks for doing these extended instrumental mixes and letting us hear the magic of Motown without vocal interference, it's fantastic!
Steven Kerry Right on the button! I second that emotion. :)
For sure this is the best dance song they made!!! That BASS line!!!! And DRUMS! And the rest just rocks!
Thanks, Steven....a lot!
I agree, this track rocks!
Yes!!!!!
I have never figured out why this one didn't hit Number One. It has it all.
Agree, politics....
and more besides!!!!!
Thanks for the correction! My bad!
Better than every song released in the last 10 years.

Yip 👍👍👍
. . . combined . . . .
Fabulous music ❤️
Oh no John, so sorry to hear this, thank you for the legacy that's been left.
That drum beat ..is.......relentless.
YES THE DRUM BEAT IS EXCELLCENT ♥️🙋. DO YOU KNOW WHO THE MUSICIANS ARE?
It’s more likely Benny Benjamin
YEEESSS!!! And so is that BASS!!!
JAMES JAMERSON & THAT BASS,FUNK BROTHERS WERE AHEAD OF THEIR TIME!! AND THEY KNEW IT TOO! BAD BOYS THERE!
+Roslyn Dukes Mine too !
Detroit bad ass dig
The Funk Brothers @ their Finest. Glad to have been born in the early 50's to appreciate all Funk Brothers achieved - they bridged race.
Me too Gary !
+swt32567 Yeah...Awesome stuff. Loved this amazing tune like forever! The Funky, bass diggin' jammin' sound is incredible.
This is hot. The beat is fire! I'm feeling this mix!!!
Thanks, Daniel!!
Detroit dna
Hard to believe that this pounding beat was penned over 50 years ago !! God, I feel old !!
This was on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIGHT ON.
The Funk Brothers had more number one hits then any other band including the Beatles in the history of popular music
That's awesome!!
Love That Sax. That is a musician playing.
It's the "Funk Brothers"!
Don’t understand how 164 don’t like this music...scratching my head. This was & still is the best music that came out.. MOTOWN Sound , sound of young America & then... FANIA,, yeah baby!! What a beat... funk brothers... the best
They are Jealous IDIOTS SMDH
Funk Bros at their best ...sheer class never to be forgotten
We had great music that we enjoyed and appreciated, but we had no idea that music would one day get as weak as it is today. We cling to past hits like this because it's all we have as of 2022.
Sublime. It doesn't get better than this. I remember packed dancefloors with everyone moving as one. Makes me tear up.
Keep the fait✊️
Wow!!!! I can remember blasting this tune, having a few adult beverages and tearing up that rug. At least I thought I was and great mix.
The Supremes ..class act..unlike todays ..Holland and Dozier Holland were geniuses! Jamerson? YES!!
Yes INDEED AMEN
Flo's background cooing here I'd an ultimate jam, that lady could vocally get down!
Malcolm Marshall yaaaas
Malcolm Marshall YES!
Top draw my friend.
It was said that Flo was actually the better singer of the three
Darrian Mitchell Yes this is definitely evident here!
Love this restored version, more than ever!!!!Phenomenal performers, positive energy!!!
2nd fav Supremes song. It has a grit and toughness that no other record of theirs had. The throbbing bass line rocks! Shocked this didn't go to #1.
I love the tenor & baritone saxes along with the vibes. There is nothing like the "Motown Sound" ! ! ! ! Great groups, great music, & great times ! ! ! Bravo "Funk Brothers" & Supremes !
Too bad Motown instrumtal sounds didn't transfer to live shows!
Baritone sax, not bass sax.
I'm diggin'this! The backing track is so incredible.
BTW - RIP Mary Wilson.
Yes indeed.
Also remember, Florence Ballard has gone from us.
RIP Flo,Mary 💔🙏🏽💔🙏🏽and also mosotogam who is responsible for this extended version passed from covid 19😔🙏🏽
@@phillycheez6288 Have mercy!
anybody who loves motown like you is our kind of people.
Love our work.
Heard this today in the grocery store I didn’t stop til I found it ❤️
How can anyone dislike this??? Just blows my mind, such a great song from The Supremes!
Kill me, RIGHT NOW!!! I am dead on arrival, as we used to say.
This song ROCKS to hell and BACK! And I was 15 when it first came out in 1966.
You GO, Mosogotam!! Makes me wish I was still a DJ: I'd play this song in a hot SECOND! And they'd LOVE IT! I've already played "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" 7 times in the past half hour, and this one's hot on its heels.
McBrion...thanks so much...glad you like the remixes!!
In the conversation of the greatest girl group of all time there is The Supremes and then everyone else.
This mix is heaven on earth xxxx
I am well over seven to years old it gives me sheer delight to see the comments from the younger generation. How much they love the Motown sound it has an African beat the funk Brothers really put the funk and Motown music. I should hope that the Young generation that listen to Motown music pass it down to your offsprings it's in a DNA mother Africa.
The Supremes, my favorite girl group
ever. Saw them when Florence Ballad, was with them. Flo had the better
Voice of the 3 girls. God Bless you
Florence. Now she's singing in
Heaven.😍💞💕💗💖❤
I miss and loved Florence too, but she absolutely DID NOT have the best voice in the Supremes. EVERYBODY Knows who did. And you must address her by her Surname.**"🤗😅💓
Mrs.Diana Ross@@amandachandler6060
Piercing, but feminine. crisp, clear, articulate, loud but soft. Diana's vocals were amazing
Still it had a slightly hard edge that made the song really get up in your face. I love it and it will always be one my very favorites.
I'm a huge fan of the original version, there best single by a mile, and heard this mix and I was blown away, Thanks
Thanks so much, Owen!!!
Some things you never get used to. My forever came today top 2.
This song reflects the spirit of Detroit in the best days of GM for me!!
I can just picture those folks pushin' those ol' cars through the lines!!
My man worked the Cadillac plant back in the 70's!! Good ol' times...!!😉😉🎉✝️⚜️
The Man behind this channel, may he R.I.P. Is undisputable GODS GREATEST GIFT TO RUclips.! THEY NEED TO COMMEMERATE. 👍👌✌️
The Funk Brothers really knew rhythm. I especially like the drums because I was a wannabe drummer in high school, college and in my own rock & roll band. I dance the same way!!!! With rhythm. I am a drummer on the dance floor. I don't miss a beat. Believe me, I do know music.
I saw some thumbs down Tired sad people Motown Music changed the American culture and influenced the planet Detroit was everything not so long ago Watcha gonna do when love gets a hold on you? The importance of this music can't be overestimated Strong dynamic sexy funky music Way over the top The way it's supposed to be
TRUTH INDEED AMEN
Preach it soulie! Pop culturally speaking the Detroit music scene and especially Motown changed the landscape forever in much the same way the titans of R&R like, Chuck, Fats and Little Richard kick started youth culture as we know it a decade before!
I always thought this song was on fire. But you went and threw gas on it!
fwdthinker ha ha ha. Yep.
AMEN!!!
Sorry, that should have been Rossmore, not Rossman. My apologies.
@@cdave2;Exactly, music is getting the spirit of it more than anything more so than it's correctness which great in itself if you can get there. But whose perfect?
These extended motown versions are just amazing..makes me feel 22 again dancing all night.
Bob...thanks very much!!
I love the xylophone present here and in many of the Motown tracks. An unusual instrument in pop music, adding a touch of refinement. Wonderful. 🙂
RIP Mosogotam John Perrone. You were a musical genius, and more importantly a great, down to earth personality.
i can listen to this bass and piano ....for ever
I had just arrived at the Presidio in San Francisco, during my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, when this gem of a Supremes song emerged. I immediately rushed and bought he single. I love you mix.
Thank you.
Thank you for putting this together, best female group ever

Robert Hobbes agrees with every1. That backup keyboard/bass/xylophone/snare sound !! Definitely Motown '60s. I still dance to this tune a lot since I'm self-employed. Chills too! Definitely O.M.G. !!!!!!!!
