  • If you’re the type of person who wants a tough and capable off-roader but with a bit more luxury than a Jeep, the 2022 Land Rover Defender may be your answer. This new generation was updated in 2020 to still have the off-road capabilities but without feeling utilitarian as the older generations. So does it live up to its heritage? Keep reading to find out.
    The Land Rover Defender is available with three engines; a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0L inline-6, or a 5.0L supercharged V8. This demo vehicle has the turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces 395 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque (295 kW & 550 Nm). This engine allows the 2,168 kg (4,780 lbs) Defender to accelerate from a stop to 100 km/h in around 6 seconds, according to Land Rover.
    Helping the engine with the fast response and fuel economy is a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This will not allow the Defender to drive on electricity alone but it will aid with fuel economy… a bit. Officially the Defender 90 P400 is rated for 13.5 L/100km (17.4 MPG) in a city and 10.8 L/100km (21.8 MPG) on a highway. I managed to average 12.6 L/100km (18.7 MPG) during my time with the SUV.
    The 2022 Land Rover Defender 90 P400 starts at $79,800 CAD. As equipped, it came to $94,520 CAD. Unfortunately, the price has increased for the 2023 Land Rover Defender. The 90-series P400 now starts at $82,750 CAD ($66,100 USD)and can easily go into the 6-figure range with all of the options that are available on it.

    90 P400 X owner since 21 and it’s been 100% reliable. My favourite car to date and I’ve had all sorts over last 35 years. Great around town (West London) and long road trips around Europe 🤓👍

      I've owned 9 Land Rovers to date and many other 4X4's.. The new 90 is by far my favorite Land Rover to date. This truck is incredible off pavement.

    Great Video. Bought my 2022 D90 about 8 months ago and it is probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. Most people don't even know what it is so it gets a lot of looks and questions. Mine is equipped with the Expedition Package but with the fold down ladder and nearly every option. Didn't opt for the rear heated seats since I often convert it down to a two seater and install custom platform I had built for traveling and camping trips. Can't say enough good things about the D90. I looked at the 4 doors but really wanted the road manners of the Defender 110 but with the nimbleness of the smaller D90 form factor. Add on a 2" lift for $60 and some 34" Tires (Clears with no rubbing) and there are not many places you cant go in complete comfort and with ease. There is some road noise but I would not say it is uncomfortable or too loud. I should also mention I have not had a single maintenance issue. No lights, No warnings, Nada... Its been perfect. Its pricey but I think right now I could sell it for more than I bought it for. I did not know the base price was going up for 2023 but I think in the long run the D90 is going to hold its value better than the D-110. It costs the same if not more than the D-110 right now in a lot of places. Prices are crazy at dealers right now for these its tempting to sell but its my favorite vehicle so this one is staying in the Garage.

    Your video review of the Defender 90 P400 was a good one. You have a relaxed delivery style and that is something I appreciate. Thank you for this video review.

      @@MGReviewsBlog Absolutely love it. So much so we canceled our Bronco order. I've had mine since April and have taken tons of trips from NJ to Maine. My husbands came mid May and the same with his. Both are really great. Couldn't be happier and don't regret not getting the 110 at all. 90 is perfect.

    Volume knob is over there so the passenger can get to it. The assumption is that the driver will use the scroll wheel mounted on the steering wheel that is in his hands!

      There would be a lot of fighting and the volume would be going up and down in waves if the passenger changed the volume while I was driving haha

    Here in the states, these can be had for MSRP if you factory order one. Wait time for mine is looking at about 7 months. Placed order in Sep and just got word it will be delivered late March. If you want one right just now, however, they are still being marked up way over MSRP.
    Still a far better option than the Bronco Raptor, however, and you can actually buy this!
    Great vid, I love the style and delivery. A little bit of off-road driving would have been cool but I'm sure not every press car is allowed to be buried in the mud.

      Thanks! Yes, I can't exactly go on an excursion with these vehicles unless it is set up by the manufacturers. I have to be respectful of the cars and return them undamaged & unscratched. Also during this time of year, it's harder to film with less light and poor weather conditions. I still have a regular 9-5 job so there's only so much time left in the rest of my week to film.

    Here in the USA, we don't buy Land Rover or Jaguar..... We lease them.... they have horrible reliability problems... lease them for 3 years, then return them back to the dealer....then maybe lease the new one

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  Год назад

      Yea I should get into the habit of saying buy or lease, especially for the luxury brands.

    Tough off roaders aren’t made of plastic and don’t have automatic gearboxes or shiny paintwork. The Pretender is an expensive Mall-Crawler.

    • @hughmarcus1
      @hughmarcus1 Год назад +1

      You’ve not seen it perform off road then. Literally no one who’s driven the new Defender off road, has rubbished it. Everyone has been impressed

    • @seanlander9321
      @seanlander9321 Год назад

      @@hughmarcus1 Ha! Good one. The Pretender is a plastic toy of dubious electrics that hasn’t been tested off road except for polite excursions in the countryside. Get real, where do you put a Jerry cans for 100 litres of diesel, 50 litres of water, and two spare wheels, towing 1500kg of gear, travelling for days on end over corrugations, dunes and mud. That’s an off road test. This mall-crawler doesn’t even have anywhere to mount a rifle or dog cages. It’s a suburban joke for soft-handed parvenus.
