- Another Land Rover lands in the hangar for a combo TECH REVIEW, FIRST DRIVE REVIEW & round of our famous #OptionsGame - a short one: The 2022 Land Rover Defender 90. Yes, it has the same 395 HP 3.0 Turbo Six with the 48V Mild Hybrid propulsion system we drove in the larger Land Rover Defender 110, but after putting almost 400 miles on this Defender 90, MotoMan learns 17 less inches and an over 300 pound weight reduction make a bigger difference than two less doors.

As a D90 FE owner, I also wanted the jump seat for no logical reason whatsoever! 😀 I just wanted it and love that I have it.
Hey man, looking at getting one of these 90's within the next year. How do you find the boot space for sort of day to day life (and more if you have taken people to airport etc?) also what about people getting into the back seats?? is it as much of a faff as people make it out to be. I quite often carry more than two people in my car if me and some friends are going to one place so don't want it to be a faff for others lol
Moto, Your easy style and voluminous automotive knowledge serve to upscale the RUclips Video Journalist genre. You set the mark. Thanks.
In this episode brown is not only the color of Moto’s pants but also…
Wow, thank you!
For an automotive journalist who is not really into SUVs, you did a good job Motoman. 👍
Great review! How is that folding fabric roof on a highway? Wind noise level when it closed? Buffeting when its open? Thank you.
Always get a thumbs up MM. Another great and informative episode. With jeep wranglers and broncos in the $60's Range Rover is a player in this segment.
Factor in FCA reliability or whatever they are calling themselves these days and yes, would agree with you.
Seriously considering purchasing 2022 Defender X Dynamic S....some discussion on reddit is putting me off. But lov this truck.
@@jayj.r.1947 I have been run off of 5 outstanding vehicles by blogs, vlogs and other anonymous sites. It’s great to read up on a vehicles and it’s potential problems. You have to look deeper to really make an informed decision.
thanks moto man, very interesting indeed
Not sure if someone has made this observation before, but P400 engine is a inline 6 not a V-6. Sorry for the correction !
Great video as always! I almost got the Defender 90, but ended up with the 110, because it was only $2800 more and has much more usable space. I still prefer the look of the 90; I think it has better proportions. Mine’s also Pangea Green, but with the Acorn interior with the same walnut trim that’s standard in the X model.
How's it holding up? Any usual trips back to the dealer or increased frequency of said trips?
@@MotoManTV it’s been pretty good so far! It’s been to the dealer once for an oil change, and going back next week for another oil change, as well to fix the sunroof that stopped working and to fix a rattle coming from the driver’s door bass speaker.
@@cincyrovers ah yes land rovers quality
I wouldn’t ever own a JLR product, but if I was in the market for a new Defender, the 90 in my opinion looks so much better than the 110. I like the shorter wheelbase as well as the better turning radius of this model over the 4 door. That cloth pano roof is cool, but that seems like a part that wouldn’t age well with the vehicle from a reliability standpoint, so I personally would probably opt for the glass roof.
The 90 looks like something you'd see parked in a disabled bay. If you're going to get a big car, get a big car. 110 looks million times better
I love my ‘22 90 S. Over 8,300 miles and no issues. It’s amazing.
Hate being that guy, but I’m pretty sure it’s an I6, not V6. Which is pedantic, but also contributes some of that smooth and vibration free quality missing from some competitors.
8:29 LOL Yea i had an 05 Buick Park Ave Ultra w/ the "jump seat" front bench. LOVED IT. I asked my sex friends to sit next to me. And got laughed at every time. I recently sold that thing for more than i bought it for years ago. Great investment.
Having a larger tyres options for a more goatish environ then ones average mall crawler soccer pool commute is alluring..
Neat!
Would you say this is a good trade up from my 4runner TRD Off-road?
Not nearly as capable.
One radio station available when purchasing this…Yacht Rock Radio…Sirius XM Channel 311.
I like this version more than 4door
This thing looks so short in pictures and video that even knowing how heavy the 110 is my brain is having difficulty accepting that it weighs almost 3 tons.
It does look small in photos and videos but in person it’s actually pretty substantial and the seating position towers over most vehicles on the road. I was at a light today next to a 200 series LC looking down (physically not symbolically 😄) at the driver. And those are big suvs. It also has very beefy and overbuilt underpinnings which add to its weight. 👍
Hey Motoman, what's your favorite car right now?
992 GT3 Touring
@@MotoManTV You should checkout this Porsche video I did. You will love it. Take a look at the GT3 Touring at about the 4-miunute mark... what color do you think that is? ruclips.net/video/VgznHCBhguw/видео.html
Two-door SUV's should be making a hard comeback.
Y no Kumo in Jumpseat?
As he gets older, he’s harder to get on camera these days.
I really hope you drive the 90 with the V8
Me too:)
If you don’t buy the 90 then you probably didn’t want a Defender in the first place.
this statement makes no sense
@@esteban75lover23 it makes perfect sense if you read it correctly. Someone that end up buying a Defender 110 is far less likely an enthusiast of some sort, and probably just wants an SUV that looks cool or is prestigious. There is a good chance it’ll spend its days in shopping mall parking lots. Someone who is interested in the 90 probably has more interest in off-roading and over-landing, and will use the Defender for its intended purpose, rather than to simply look cool.
I give it a C grade.
Styling it is A+
Offroad B
Reliability D
Price B+
Desirability A
Reputation C-
This brand should team up with toyota to make offroad vehicles. There styling and toyotas reliability would be a home run.
Hybrid +Range Rover=?
Adding more electrics to a Land Rover. Brilliant idea 🤣
I honestly dunno how I feel about the exterior looks of it….granted it’s miles better looking than the shitty Evoque…..
I wouldn't buy this by the way, rather have a Jeep Rubicon Gladiator Eco- Diesel, or even just the two-door Rubicon. 🤔
Looked at this guy for 10 seconds and decided he doesn't look like a car guy he's dressed like a kid...he needs a canvas jacket and some man pants or something. next...
So……… George’s obvious depth of engineering knowledge, experience and the ability to mount a cohesive argument has no value to you?
@@simonward5833 umm yup, he has camel toe... a man who knows things should know how to dress for crying out loud.
that's the preppy happily single guy look. All that's missing is a backward ball cap.
