Most of the time, it's the most expensive variant of a car that's the most impressive. But this time around, it's not this case. The Land Rover Defender 90 P300 - the cheapest of its kind - stacks up wonderfully. And it's hard to look past as the pick of the range.
    - No big compromises for the best value price in the range
    - Willing, responsive powertrain with plenty of character
    - Interior still had plenty of tech and nice touches at this price
The original Defender was never about how much is cost or what kind of stuff it had. It was always about what it could enable; the promise of adventure and experience.

I like the 90 a lot more than I thought I would. I wasn’t even considering it until recently - just drove the P300 variant with steelies and was happy with it. Especially nice with leather and the sunroof. If I can snag one at MSRP, I will. Great vehicle!

What I love about this video is that this is a base 90. Everyone wants to do the top of the line models of whatever vehicle they are doing. Not everyone is buying an expensive mall crawler. some of us want a basic model and have fun with it. Nice review also.

I love that spec as well. Maybe I'd go diesel though or turn it into a compressed air engine car later in its life!

I really really like the look of the new defender. But I will still go Prado. Honestly, went to a dealer in Essendon VIC to have a look at the Defender and the sales reps seemed way to arrogant too talk.

I love this entry level 90 model.
    It’s great
    Less is more
If I was getting this particular Defender, I’d get the D200 motor.
    147 kw / 500 nm
    Economy and Torque.
    The D250 with 183 kw / 570 nm would b awesome.
And I’d probably get the EAS, much more ground clearance, and a better ride in all conditions.
Front jump seat will definitely be popular for some people.
    $ 990.00 for Privacy Glass
    No way
U can get the whole car done with good quality window tinting for that price.

Best review for the 90 P300 on the web ! , I can confirm this by personal experiences. ( def order the ediff.) No breakdowns, value remains exceptional good. So the cheapest is the best & Yes you can Rally with it, See Bowler Defender championship.

  • @FJUH

The problem with this vehicle is that it is not modular. No major aftermarket provider has anything for the Defender and the factory options (eg:bullbar) are not anywhere near being up to the task for Aussie conditions. Even without the air suspension it is overly complicated which is not great in the bush. North of $70,000 for a swb means any pretence of value goes out the window.

Very expensive for parts. If you have the spec with the drop down towbar, they are £2500 to replace as at the moment they don't do replacement parts you have to buy the whole unit.

      5 years / 200,000 kms
Defender deliveries in Australia began July 2020.

It's a lot of money for a car with an engine that I would expect would be worn out far too soon unless its built to be more durable than normal, only time will tell.

I love the new Ineos Grenadier. That vehicle is more old Defender or even G-Class Professional than the new Pretender. The Pretender is more Discovery 4.

    • @chrisbull3838

I agree. The new Defender should have been a Disco. The Grenidier looks more like a Defender replacement. Could be very expensive though and parts and service in remote Oz could be a prob as well.
