Good list! Here's my ranking: 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario sunshine 3. Super Mario Odyssey 4. Super Mario Galaxy 2 5. Super Mario 64 6. Super Mario 3D world 7. Super Mario 3D land
I appreciate that everyone has their own opinion but this list is a crime against humanity. Sunshine being rated over 3d world is a terrible take especially if your considering the switch re release. and Mario galaxy 1 being in any spot besides first or second place along side odyssey is truly diabolical. I think that factoring in Bias/nostalgia and not recognising that quality is way more important than quantity is what ruins a lot of tier lists. Here's how I believe they should be ranked 1. odyssey 2. galaxy 3. galaxy 2 4. 3d world 5. 64 ds 6. 64 7. bowsers fury 8. sunshine 9. 3d land
Worst doesn’t equal bad. 3ds may have the worst 3d Mario, Luigi mansion, m and Luigi, but it didn’t have the worst smash bros my goodness it will defend smash 3ds for an eternity
My personal list: 1. Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario 64 3. Super Mario 3D World 4. Super Mario Odyssey 5. Mario Galaxy 2 6. Super Mario Sunshine 7. Super Mario 3D Land
I know this is your opinion. But there are few things I disagree with. First off, 3D Land & 3D World being dead last and below Sunshine is absurd. The whole 3D Land & 3D World not being an fully 3D Mario game compared to others is an stupid take if you ask me. Like sure. There not an open sandbox/collecthon compared to others. But there still 3D games and playing like it's 2D counterpart isn't an bad thing. Galaxy 1 & 2 kinda does this as well and no one complaint about them. And not saying Sunshine is an terrible game. But it is the most unpolished, frustrating and tedious 3D Mario gamea that I would put it in the worst list. Secondly, 64 should not be above Galaxy or even the 3D series. Yes. I recognized it's legacy & how it brought 3D gaming that's still relevant today. But it is the most mid 3D Mario game I've experienced. The controls is archaic, the camera control is dated, most of the missions can be obnoxious & repetitive and I think after the first halve of Peach's Castle, the game gets worst with the level designs. I feel like the later games ( aside Sunshine ) and other 3D platforming games do what 64 does but better. So yeah. While I respect your opinion, I don't agree with all the ranking.
3d mario was peak!! Not a single terrible game at all tbh. I would’ve put super mario 3d world a little higher but awesome list. I only ever played super mario 64 ds the remake😭so i cant comment on the original like that. Sunshine is the one I’d live to play the most since i own all the others
I would say Sunshine is like the only 3D Mario game that's worst than any of them. But I wouldn't call it an bad game. Just not as good as other 3D Mario games.
Here's my objectively correct list of how I'd rank the 3D Mario games. The worst 3D Mario Game is still better than any licensed game in the last 2 and a half decades. 1. Super Mario Galaxy, honestly both it and it's sequel could be interchangeable, and it's the closest we get to the stories in the Mario RPG's coming into the mainline platformers. 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2, honestly both it and it's prequel could be interchangeable, this game has Yoshi and stellar levels. 3. Super Mario Odyssey, the capture mechanic makes this game stand out significantly, and Bowser stealing different items throughout the world adds to the stakes. 4. Bowser's Fury, I'm counting this as a separate entry because it plays nothing like 3D World. 5. Super Mario Sunshine, this game gets a bad reputation that's cartoonishly overblown, even if it is justified. 6. Super Mario 3D World, basically the antithesis to 3D Land. 7. Super Mario 64, It was the first to do everything, so naturally games after it would be objectively better, yes even the DS remake. 8. Super Mario 3D Land, this game feels like it was brand first, then gameplay.
I loved Super Mario Odyssey when it was released; however, over time, I began to notice its flaws more and more. Today, I would rank *Odyssey* in fourth place, alongside 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 64 taking the lead. Now, I'd like to share my perspective on why it's not as high on my list. Firstly, its biggest flaw, in my opinion, is the excessive number of Power Moons. There seem to be around 10 Moons in every corner, easily obtained through ground pounding capturing or other little effort, with most lacking any real challenge. You can acquire 90% of the moons in less than a minute. In contrast, *Super Mario Galaxy* offered unique challenges with each Star, diverse environments, and captivating gameplay. With only a handful of Stars in each Galaxy, you completed it before it became monotonous. However, after collecting 50+ Moons in every Kingdom in *Odyssey*, the repetition became tiresome. While there are some more challenging Moons hidden behind Pipes or Doors, most environments feel artificial and lackluster, with the music becoming repetitive quickly. Another issue with the Kingdoms is their flat appearance. As they aimed for more realistic environments like New Donk City or the Sand Kingdom, there were fewer significant platforming areas. For instance, Tostarena Town and New Donk City lack depth in their Plattforming areas. Moreover, the Capture mechanic isn't as enjoyable in my opinion and can't replace traditional Mario items. Captures often feel like downgrades, restricting movement and only being necessary for specific events. Additionally, the lack of compelling bosses in Super Mario Odyssey is disappointing. Besides the Broodals, which I don't consider true bosses, there are only seven original bosses plus the final Bowser fight. While Super Mario Galaxy games felt like grand adventures, Odyssey feels more like a repetitive collection task, akin to gathering all 900 Korok Seeds in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However some things i really like about odyssey are its graphics and movement. Even though you can cheese through many passages with the cappy mechanic
Personally I really didnt enjoy 64 that much, the controls are kinda jank ESPECIALLY the camera. Id be willing to give it another try if it got some kind of remake but it hasnt really aged well if you ask me.
@@osvaldo128 Agree to disagree. Personally I feel galaxy controls much more smoothly. (Not more than Odyssey) But I understand Nostalgia may be a factor and I respect that, there are many games I wouldnt like nearly as much as I do if I hadnt played them when I was younger.
I totally agree with your review of the game. Capture with cappy doesn't have the impact traditional items do, because traditional items you get from blocks define an instance of level design that was great in other games, while you don't have that with capturing because of the open world nature of the game. I found the world to be a chore rather than something to look forward to and had no real motivation other than swimming or other interesting mechanics. The game is so easy and hold your hand at every instance that it really doesn't help with immersion. I tried to like Mario Odyssey but just couldn't.
@@AlbertoMonroy-lq2vwwould you recommend Luigi’s mansion 3? I’ve been trying Mario odyssey and I’m just not enjoying it as much as I thought, the open world doesn’t really add much for me and I’m thinking Luigi’s mansions linear world design would be more appealing
At least it’s not like Sonic 06 which the game was unfinished when it was released and the creepy realistic humans which now reminds me of another video game franchise that’s doing the same thing right now… that’s right I’m talking to you GameFreak and Pokémon
So after the N64, I took a long hiatus from Nintendo until I got my Switch in 2022. But I've always kept my ear to the ground when it came to everything gaming related...so when I started retro collecting around the same time and got a Wii (which I also use for GameCube purposes that I completely missed out on), to my surprise I learned that Galaxy 2 existed. I had never even HEARD anyone talk about that game. Galaxy 1 I knew of, but 2 was a surprise to me. So it's an even bigger surprise to see how many of these list videos rank it so high when I didn't even know it was a thing a couple years ago.
Ill just list the ones ive played so i dont get confused - 3D Land - Having 3D World really doesnt give me much of a reason to play this game, plus. it being stuck on the 3ds brings it down for me. Bowsers Fury - I loved this game, however it being so short makes it be all the way down here, but its still a really enjoyable game. Mario Odyssey - I also loved this game, but sandboxes arent my thing tbh, TOO much moons, and kind of underwhelming to replay. 3D World - I despise the 100% conditions, but apart from that, this game is simply the best technically 2D Mario Game. love it. Galaxy 2 - This is a perfect game with no flaws / other than getting kicked out of the galaxy when you win / Galaxy 1 - Although it also kicks you out of the galaxy, its my favorite game of all time and is also perfect to my eyes. i could say a lot more, but if i had to say something i disliked from the galaxy games other than kicking you out are when you have a prankster comet in galaxy 1, you cant play another mission, and you gotta complete the game twice to 100% the first game.
Honestly, is there really such thing as a bad 3D Mario game? I’m sure they have their flaws (Galaxy being hands-down one of THE closest games to being literally flawless), but they also have a lot of incredible qualities that make Super Mario Super Mario. Um, I guess Super Mario 3D All-Stars counts? Sure, Nintendo doesn’t make games like these anymore now that they learned the heard way, but with all its problems (let’s just face it. For better or for worse, it’s like The Walt Disney Company in terms of its size; as it is the most popular company, mainly when it comes to gaming, it is also the most complex), a simple apology from them would have sufficed by laying low and creating better games and NOT SUING PEOPLE FOR PLAYING THERE VIDEO GAMES (or at least that’s something I got from Nin10doland, a RUclips channel I no longer watch because of his clickbait-ness) AND MAKING EPIC FAN GAMES (thank god the Super Mario hacks including the Super Mario World (and 64 and sometimes even the original Super Mario Bros. trilogy) hacks with custom music and endings are okay!)!!!!!!!!!!!!
@aliraschid5214 You want to hear? Okay, here is a huge list of crap in this game. The moons suck to collect, cappy is a pain, the worlds aren't remotely imersive, the worlds are painfully linear, the game is too easy, there's no reason to get most of the moons, the costumes are horrendous, the game doesn't take advantage of mario enough, the references are too much, it adds nothing new to the series, the music is just fine and straight up rips off galaxy's music, coins are worthless, death is meaningless, captures are straight up downgrades to Mario's move set..... This has been my opinion since 2018, and is not just for views
I would personally place Sunshine above 64, because disregarding a few pretty bad levels (pachinko and lillypad) Sunshine feels more fleshed out, better graphics, better camera, better controls for the most part, better story, better theming/immersion/sense of connectedness. This is purely based on gameplay, obviously 64 was the first to do is relatively speaking better, it just feels more dated than Sunshine imo.
Nice video, crying a bit with the sunshine ranking but hey it's expected. Here's my ranking and thoughts 1. Sunshine My forever favourite and somewhat biased #1. Best movement by far (give me spin jumps, spin jump dives and waterslides over long jumps or cappy any day), most charming levels, great atmosphere all around, and I fully embrace every bit of jank this game has to offer 2. Galaxy Probably the actual best 3D mario. Stellar level design and atmosphere and I love how serious this game feels for a mario game 3. Odyssey I can't say I feel that strongly about this game, but it's just really fun!! Collecting moons is a blast no matter what even if a lot of them are pretty basic. Overall a fantastic experience 4. Galaxy 2 Lower than the others purely because this game lacks the grandiosity and atmosphere that Galaxy 1 has, but it's still a Galaxy game and there's a ton to love in this one 5. 3D World I played this for the first time this week and it's just nice good fun. I saw someone describe it as comfort food gaming and I definitely agree. There's nothing that incredible about this game, its just overall pretty good all the way through. 6. Bowser's Fury Good game and a nice short experience, but I just like the other games more, and I like what 3D world offers more than this game does with the same mechanics and aesthetics. 7. 64 It's good, but every other 3D title just does so much more to stand out, and it's the least fun of all of them to me with the way it has aged. It is the original but original can also mean it just laid the groundwork for better games to follow Haven't played 3D land
the problem with sushine, the only problem is that its a very boring game. it has a great athomphare, fun with the waterslides, great levels. but the game is boring as he..
I'd agree that Sunshine has the best movement if 3D world didn't allow you to store momentum from cat dives and build up insane amounts of speed with crouch boosting, seriously try it out it makes the game 3 times more fun (and it's already tons of fun)
For me my list is probably 1. Odyssey 2. 3D World 3. Sunshine 4. Galaxy 5. 64 I never played 3D Land of Galaxy 2, and I honestly never beat Sunshine, Galaxy, or 64. I played them on the All Stars collection, but got bored of them before beating any of them
5:55 okay so why do so many people not understand why Yoshi dissolves in water. Pretty sure it was explained that the Yoshi's fled from the island, and that the Yoshi you DO ride, is nothing more than a creation of Bowser Jr.
Galaxy 2 is my most favorite bc it is the most polished while having extremely huge diversity. Every single 3D Mario game puts a huge emphasis on a gimmick, but Galaxy 2 doesn't. Even though it introduces new things itself, it finds a balance where the new things aren't overwhelmingly the entire game while also having some old things in the spotlight. It also has the best Yoshi controls of all Mario game.
Mario 64 is overrated. Fine its a good game but the controls are horrible and the game feels too soulless and depressing. There is also not mechanic (like cappy or fludd) or any powerups so the game feels like a boring platformer. The boss fights also are disappointing. The level design and soundtrack were great but there are a lot of flaws. A lot of nostalgia bias is involved in mario 64
Also a lot of the levels are ugly to look at. Look at banjo kazooie on the same platform and so many of the levels on that game still look amazing till this day
Hate when people say stuff like “It was the FIRST time Yoshi was rideable in a 3D game.” Oh, you mean the SECOND 3D Mario game? Such a pointless statement.
I think what 3d land and world do well is having the perfect amount of collectibles. They also strike a good balance of being well hidden or difficult to get to, while not being impossible to find without a guide like some odyssey moons.
Super Mario 64 being in the top 3? ...Yeah no. Super Mario 64 was revolutionary when it came out and definitely set a benchmark for how 3D games should go. Viewing it nowadays though, without nostalgia? ...It's not that great. It showed that 3D platformers can work, but most of the rest of the 3D Mario games (Sunshine excluded for me but that is a personal bias because of, among other things, watermelons) generally surpass it, easily.
Fine list: all have there rank. But mine be bit different. Might change in years but hard to rank. Never play 3D Mario much do had to to fast wars you lust. But I promise to watch hole thing.
Dude.. I absolutely love 3D world. Controversial or not, it was fresh and new and different than the OG sandbox mario 3d platformer but I loved it. Playing with friends in that game was unforgettable.
I made one that ranks every pokemon main series game :D I am working on ranking all the side games currently too :D Also thank you i am glad you enjoyed it!
Probably more nostalgia than anything, but Galaxy just flipped the playbook for 3D Mario and knocked it out of the park. Odyssey just felt like Super Mario 64 with a fresh layer of paint - still a great game but just didn’t have the same feel Galaxy had. Every level has some level of majesty about it, and the linearity of it actually added to the feeling that you were exploring something. Sometimes the sandbox games just become boring because you explore everything and it you are left with a feeling of emptiness. Galaxy did away with that by replacing the sandbox with tonnes of different linear levels all with their own niche designs and physics. Each to their own.
@@reecey1504 fair enough, it seems the things that many don’t like about odyssey are what makes it enjoyable for me. I like that I can just casually boot up the game and run around and stumble across something new each time. The laid back collectathon nature of the game and the satisfying movement and mechanics make it feel like something different for me but I can get how it might be tedious or boring for some

I appreciate that everyone has their own opinion but this list is a crime against humanity. Sunshine being rated over 3d world is a terrible take especially if your considering the switch re release. and Mario galaxy 1 being in any spot besides first or second place along side odyssey is truly diabolical.

I love all of the games! 3D world is one of my favorites but I was ranking off of overall quality
There's one bad one
So you're telling me Sunshine is a better game than 3d World? Yikes. @@StrawHatMidas
I would say Sunshine is like the only 3D Mario game that's worst than any of them. But I wouldn't call it an bad game. Just not as good as other 3D Mario games.
My list:
1. Galaxy 1
2. Galaxy 2 (interchangeable with 1)
3. Mario odyssey
4. 64
5. Sunshine
6. World/land. I enjoyed all of them though
My favorite 3D Mario is Galaxy 2 but i love Odyssey, 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and Galaxy 1.
@@OChunksThe camera thing is an exaggeration and 64 until the arrival of Odyssey was the game with the best controls

Ill just list the ones ive played so i dont get confused -
3D Land - Having 3D World really doesnt give me much of a reason to play this game, plus. it being stuck on the 3ds brings it down for me.
Bowsers Fury - I loved this game, however it being so short makes it be all the way down here, but its still a really enjoyable game.
Mario Odyssey - I also loved this game, but sandboxes arent my thing tbh, TOO much moons, and kind of underwhelming to replay.
3D World - I despise the 100% conditions, but apart from that, this game is simply the best technically 2D Mario Game. love it.
Galaxy 2 - This is a perfect game with no flaws / other than getting kicked out of the galaxy when you win /
Galaxy 1 - Although it also kicks you out of the galaxy, its my favorite game of all time and is also perfect to my eyes. i could say a lot more, but if i had to say something i disliked from the galaxy games other than kicking you out are when you have a prankster comet in galaxy 1, you cant play another mission, and you gotta complete the game twice to 100% the first game.
There wasn't, then they went and made odyssey
@@brykinjarman4625wdy mean?
@aliraschid5214 there wasn't a bad 3d mario until they made odyssey
@@brykinjarman4625 so ur saying that Odyssey is a bad 3D Mario Game, can you explain how?
Finally a ranking video that isn’t blinded by nostalgia, great job man!
“I’m gonna be king of the pirates! 🏴☠️” 😂😭
Literally the only way to play nintendo games nowadays.
Here's my ranking and thoughts
1. Sunshine
My forever favourite and somewhat biased #1. Best movement by far (give me spin jumps, spin jump dives and waterslides over long jumps or cappy any day), most charming levels, great atmosphere all around, and I fully embrace every bit of jank this game has to offer
2. Galaxy
Probably the actual best 3D mario. Stellar level design and atmosphere and I love how serious this game feels for a mario game
3. Odyssey
I can't say I feel that strongly about this game, but it's just really fun!! Collecting moons is a blast no matter what even if a lot of them are pretty basic. Overall a fantastic experience
4. Galaxy 2
Lower than the others purely because this game lacks the grandiosity and atmosphere that Galaxy 1 has, but it's still a Galaxy game and there's a ton to love in this one
5. 3D World
I played this for the first time this week and it's just nice good fun. I saw someone describe it as comfort food gaming and I definitely agree. There's nothing that incredible about this game, its just overall pretty good all the way through.
6. Bowser's Fury
Good game and a nice short experience, but I just like the other games more, and I like what 3D world offers more than this game does with the same mechanics and aesthetics.
7. 64
It's good, but every other 3D title just does so much more to stand out, and it's the least fun of all of them to me with the way it has aged. It is the original but original can also mean it just laid the groundwork for better games to follow
Haven't played 3D land
the problem with sushine, the only problem is that its a very boring game. it has a great athomphare, fun with the waterslides, great levels. but the game is boring as he..
I'd agree that Sunshine has the best movement if 3D world didn't allow you to store momentum from cat dives and build up insane amounts of speed with crouch boosting, seriously try it out it makes the game 3 times more fun (and it's already tons of fun)

5:55 okay so why do so many people not understand why Yoshi dissolves in water. Pretty sure it was explained that the Yoshi's fled from the island, and that the Yoshi you DO ride, is nothing more than a creation of Bowser Jr.
3D Land is so good! It’s so underrated!
I remember playing galaxy 2 as a kid and actually being afraid of playing the last universe cus of how hard it was.
Odyssey was boring. There I said it
Mario 64 is overrated.
Look at banjo kazooie on the same platform and so many of the levels on that game still look amazing till this day
@@MR.__G Mario 64 has better controls than Banjo, and the first real 3d platform.

Hate when people say stuff like “It was the FIRST time Yoshi was rideable in a 3D game.”
Oh, you mean the SECOND 3D Mario game? Such a pointless statement.
I think what 3d land and world do well is having the perfect amount of collectibles. They also strike a good balance of being well hidden or difficult to get to, while not being impossible to find without a guide like some odyssey moons.
We need Super Mario 3-D All-Stars 2, with the remaining 3D games not available on Switch.
All these lists are so subjective. I would have odyssey and sunshine at the bottom and smg2 and 3d world at the top
You ain’t had to come for Sunshine like that 😂😂😂

Seems like the “intellectual” take nowadays that galaxy is better than odyssey but I simply don’t see it.
