Mario Odyssey is my all time favorite and after 8 years I have beaten it countless times and every time finding more moons I've never seen and as the video said the music is great it is something else if I showed someone New Donk city they would not be able to tell (besides the Mario billboards). That game is phenomenal I don't care how much I have to say it Mario Odyssey is my favorite game ever.
I'm gonna be honest, I can't rank them. I just have too many emotional ties to each of these games that when thinking back to each of them, it's just happy memories. I try ranking them by using factors that each game has above the other, but then I remember how much fun I had with all of them. Even when there are times that they suck and become very frustrating, I can't help but just have joy in the experience. It's actually impossible for me to genuinely rank them. They are all amazing and just so much fun.
With a Mario game I want the core Mario vibe with some new things i prefer not to much drastic from what I love in the Mario franchise but new things like power ups and enemies I love to see I don’t really like straying off from the core of Mario that we know and love (Awesome video keep up the good work!!! 🔥😎)
Taking turns playing galaxy 1 and 2 with my brother will always be some of my favorite memories, and same with playing 3d world at my friends house, but when I finally got Mario odessy just last year, I was absolutely blown away, like I played it less than 6 months ago and I already have so much nostalgia for it + on the moon where all the different creatures from each kingdom stand next to each other looking at the earth still makes me tear up
Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario Galaxy are my favorite 3D Mario games for the Wii and 3DS overall. Super Mario 3D World has a next level story in another world. Hats off to these 3 Mario games. 😄
I find Galaxy actually more fun and epic in feel. My issue with Odyssey is often there are parts of levels that are quite empty when you move off the beaten track. Galaxy was insane with it's creativity. Fun every second of play.
Well it definitely has flaws they are just very little. Galaxy was a more fun all the time Mario game. Odyssey has moments of repetitive moons and boring kingdoms. I love odyssey don't get me wrong but flawless it is not.

This doesn’t say anything about where the game I’m about to reference belongs on this list by the way, but I always thought the game that reminds me the most of odyssey that isn’t odyssey is sunshine. Biggest reason: the wide distribution of NPCs some of which even move in each, the realistic worlds with unique architecture, the fact that they are the only two games with a camera being fully controlled in all angles by a separate analogue stick, the travel companions that Mario uses to enhance his abilities, the designated secret linear platforming levels, how big each world is. I can go on and on with this list. But yes I think Super Mario Sunshine and Odyssey are the two 3D Mario games that closely resemble each other most.
@@Matty_Ice3955 The level with the electric goop would drive me nuts! I can remember losing so many lives on that level lol. My favourite was Pinna Park, I just liked the vibe
Insanely respectable list. I rate Galaxy and Galaxy 2 the highest but I love how high you rated Odyssey, it's such a spectacular game. I'm curious to see if my feelings for the game will grow even more one day and dethrones my two current favorites.
If you play Super Mario 3D Land emulated in Citra VR on a VR headset and use the emulator’s “immersive mode” - which expands the level to be visible all around you - it instantly becomes one of the best Mario games. I hope the next Switch does something with VR.
Nice list, as someone who has played all the games, mine would be 9. Bowser's Fury 8: 3d land 7: 3d world 6: Sm64 DS 5: Super mario Sunshine 4: Super mario oddysey 3: Super mario 64 2: Galaxy 2 1: Super Mario galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite 3D Mario game overall because of its creativity and grand scope and pretty much everything else about it, but I still love the others too for different reasons. Super Mario 64 for its replayability and simplicity, Super Mario Sunshine for its uniqueness, style, FLUDD as a mechanic and Isle Delfino as a unique world and its interconnected nature and cohesion, Super Mario 64 DS because of its extra missions, minigames, having Luigi, Wario and Yoshi as playable characters, its new powerups and nostalgia as it was my first 3D Mario game and I love it because of that too, Super Mario 3D Land for its pick-up and play nature as a handheld 3D Mario and it's callbacks to Mario 3, and Super Mario 3D World for its playable characters, hybrid 2D & 3D nature and its great classic style linear platforming levels, it's new powerups like Cat Mario and the Double Cherry and its soundtrack as well, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for its new powerups and how it uses Yoshi and has callbacks to past Mario games while having plenty of unique ideas of its own as well too, and Super Mario Odyssey for its fresh new kingdoms and how it honors the series's whole history in different ways, like with its 8-bit 2D sections, Cappy and the Capture mechanic and how abstract and unforgettable locations like New Donk City, the Luncheon Kingdom and Tosterena are, as well as its new characters like the Broodals, and the game's boss fights as well as its climatic ending sequence too, and Bowser's Fury for how much freedom it gives you, Plessis as a fast way to move around, being able to use 3D World's powerups in a more open game, and Fury Bowser's design and as a mechanic, the game's jazzy soundtrack and its loving and fun callbacks to Super Mario Sunshine as well.
It’s weird to think about now, but I actually played Super Mario Galaxy 2 before I knew it was a sequel or knew the original existed. So when I first played 1, I kept wondering why Yoshi wasn’t there and why I was on an observatory rather than Mario’s head.
So I almost totally agree with your list. I was totally happy to see Mario 64 DS over the original and Galaxy 1 over 2 as controversial as those pics are. But dude, I gotta switch your number 1 and 2. Don't get me wrong, it is VERY close between those two, but Galaxy is ICONIC! The music, the worlds, the hub, the introduction of Rosalina, and just the whole atmosphere go together so perfectly. Like it is one of my few 10/10 games for sure. And like Odessey is good but I did have a few problems with it. The moons just don't feel as satisfying to get when you collect so many of them. And some of the worlds just felt disjointed compared to each other. But it's still really good, just 2nd for me. Also yes bring Galaxy 2 to switch please!
You know what, the D-pad controls on 64 DS don't matter to me as much now as they used to because of the fact that I've gotten used to them over the years but also I genuinely love 64 DS and it is my favorite 3D Mario game because what other 3D Mario has Wario as a playable character and has given an entire generation of gamers a gambling addiction?
I've only played a handful, but my top three is probably Odyssey, 3D World, and Galaxy. Galaxy is in a solid third, the other two are tied for first, they both are great for different reasons.
My ranking 1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. Super Mario Galaxy 4. Super Mario 3D World 5. Super Mario 64 6. Super Mario 64 DS 7. Super Mario Sunshine 8. Super Mario 3D Land 9. Bowser’s Fury (It’s way too short to be better than any of the other FULL games)
Ever since SMB2, when I hoped SMB3 would be 3D (which a lot of game franchises were getting into at the time) and would yet return to form of the original SMB, that was what I always wanted from a 3D Mario. SMB had a "flow" to it, with its linear format, and "open world" just doesn't have it. In SMB, you automatically knew what to do, where in Mario 64, I didn't know where to begin. So 3DW and 3DL were the "holy grail", for me. Odyssey is nice for the realistic NYC graphics, and luncheon kingdom looks nice as well. Bowser's Fury is open world, but it's small size is non-overwhelming. My first 3D was Galaxy 2, and the little worldlet concept was also nice, and easier to know what to do. (I would group those togther, since they are so similar). With 64, I just can't get over the crude polygon graphics, and I don't know why they didn't completely redo that when they redid it for 3D Allstars. Sunshine was a bg improvement, though.
1. SM64 DS is indeed better than the og. 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a retelling of SM Galaxy 1. At the end of the game we find out that Rosalina was telling the story to some baby Lumas.
Is mario odyssey worth it? I literally just got a switch 2 weeks ago. I am mostly an rpg guy but love adventure games and 2d mario. Odyssey looks really fun because it seems more like an adventure game rather than a platformer where you just have to make it to the end of the level. It looks like there is a lot of replay value and post game content which is important to me. I'm curious on what people would choose between odyssey and kirby forgotten land?
Personally, I like odyssey better than Kirby and the forgotten land. However, the co-op is better in Kirby if you plan to play with someone. Kirby’s levels are also more linear, whereas odysseys are more of a sand box. They are both fantastic games however and you won’t be disappointed with either. If you’re interested in rpg and adventure games though, legend of Zelda botw and Totk are top tier, and I hear paper Mario thousand year door is supposed to be excellent as well.
I know a lot of people love the Galaxy games, but personally I really didn’t like any part where I had to run around on a small sphere. It often made me feel dizzy and would give me a headache after some time.
Super Mario sunshine is my personal favorite too!!!!loveeee that game so much but I’m in the exact same page as you, I know it different upon most Mario games but it’s sooo unique
before i even see the video its gonna be between mario galaxy and mario odyssey everything else was nice and all but these 2 just stand out more than any other 3d mario
Super Mario 64 for me. Nothing beats that Nostalgia. 64 DS is awesome too but I am from the school that burned down before the Old School. Super Mario RPG if included then Super Mario Galaxy then Odyssey then Bowsers Fury then 3D World and finally Sunshine thereafter. I have 3D Land but Can't stop Lulzing at the way it looks in 2024, never played it back when it released and thought I am not doing this right now when I got Mario Wonder. I will play through it soon since I do own it, I have too. All 3D Mario games kick arse.
Odyssey's controls really are the best. Galaxy has the best level design. Mario is just a tad slow in Galaxy. If 64 didn't have tank turning, I'd bump it up a bit. Good list
Them thinking there the best trilogy😕 1: super mario 3d land 2: super mario 3d world 3: Bowsers fury Did you forget about us? 😎 1 Super mario bros 2 Super mario bros 2 USA 3 Super Mario Bros 3
I loved Super Mario Odyssey when it was released; however, over time, I began to notice its flaws more and more. Today, I would rank *Odyssey* in fourth place, alongside 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 64 taking the lead. Now, I'd like to share my perspective on why it's not as high on my list. Firstly, its biggest flaw, in my opinion, is the excessive number of Power Moons. There seem to be around 10 Moons in every corner, easily obtained through ground pounding capturing or other little effort, with most lacking any real challenge. You can acquire 90% of the moons in less than a minute. In contrast, *Super Mario Galaxy* offered unique challenges with each Star, diverse environments, and captivating gameplay. With only a handful of Stars in each Galaxy, you completed it before it became monotonous. However, after collecting 50+ Moons in every Kingdom in *Odyssey*, the repetition became tiresome. While there are some more challenging Moons hidden behind Pipes or Doors, most environments feel artificial and lackluster, with the music becoming repetitive quickly. Another issue with the Kingdoms is their flat appearance. As they aimed for more realistic environments like New Donk City or the Sand Kingdom, there were fewer significant platforming areas. For instance, Tostarena Town and New Donk City lack depth in their Plattforming areas. Moreover, the Capture mechanic isn't as enjoyable in my opinion and can't replace traditional Mario items. Captures often feel like downgrades, restricting movement and only being necessary for specific events. Additionally, the lack of compelling bosses in Super Mario Odyssey is disappointing. Besides the Broodals, which I don't consider true bosses, there are only seven original bosses plus the final Bowser fight. While Super Mario Galaxy games felt like grand adventures, Odyssey feels more like a repetitive collection task, akin to gathering all 900 Korok Seeds in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However some things i really like about odyssey are its graphics and movement. Even though you can cheese through many passages with the cappy mechanic
My favorite is Super Mario Galaxy 2, and my second favorite is Princess Peach: Showtime!. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a much better camera than Super Mario Odyssey because the camera has smooth interpolation, and it is automatic, so you don't have to be controlling two analog sticks at once. The movement in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is more precise, so players cannot just speed through every level and skip past all the interesting mechanics and level design. In Super Mario Odyssey, moons are scattered everywhere and if you collect enough, you can skip the main story and boss fights.
Super Mario Sunshine is definitely one of the Mario best games to exist only do to it being unique and creative and it is really fun to master everything. The Dang Boat made my me rage in a game for the first time and every time now
I also love how the stages are all part of the island. Being able to see Pinna Park from Gelato made it feel more connected and believable.

@@Matty_Ice3955 The level with the electric goop would drive me nuts! I can remember losing so many lives on that level lol. My favourite was Pinna Park, I just liked the vibe
@@Matty_Ice3955Ricco Harbor! First level i think of when talking about the game + makes me think about Metal Harbor in SA2. I also like the big squid
Nice list, as someone who has played all the games, mine would be
9. Bowser's Fury
8: 3d land
7: 3d world
6: Sm64 DS
5: Super mario Sunshine
4: Super mario oddysey
3: Super mario 64
2: Galaxy 2
1: Super Mario galaxy
Didn't expect to agree with this list so much. Other than 3d World it's honestly perfect (though I do slightly prefer Galaxy 2 over Galaxy 1)
So idk if very many people know this, but in the beginning of Mario galaxy 2, it claims to be a retelling of the story of Mario galaxy 1
I can totally agree with the Top 3
Same Mario Galaxy 1 is my fave as well but I like the others for different reasons as well all the games have reason to like them
It’s weird to think about now, but I actually played Super Mario Galaxy 2 before I knew it was a sequel or knew the original existed. So when I first played 1, I kept wondering why Yoshi wasn’t there and why I was on an observatory rather than Mario’s head.
Sunshine will always be my favorite Mario 3d game.
Odyssey the goat in my top 5 all time game.
Also yes bring Galaxy 2 to switch please!
you have the correct opinion
While I 100% believe Galaxy is the best, I do respect this list. Well reasoned as well.
3D World would be in my Top 3 or 5
I kinda like the linear Mario games more, because you dont miss much
You know what, the D-pad controls on 64 DS don't matter to me as much now as they used to because of the fact that I've gotten used to them over the years but also I genuinely love 64 DS and it is my favorite 3D Mario game because what other 3D Mario has Wario as a playable character and has given an entire generation of gamers a gambling addiction?
Yea I love playing as Wario in 64 ds and he’s my fave character as well
Mario sunshine was basically the predecessor for Splatoon
The d-pad in M64 DS never phased me as a kid
I've only played a handful, but my top three is probably Odyssey, 3D World, and Galaxy. Galaxy is in a solid third, the other two are tied for first, they both are great for different reasons.
My ranking
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Super Mario Galaxy
4. Super Mario 3D World
5. Super Mario 64
6. Super Mario 64 DS
7. Super Mario Sunshine
8. Super Mario 3D Land
The polygon graphics just look so goofy 😂 half the time I’m like “what the heck is that” 😂
I think mario has the most robust and smoothest way to execute the moveset in odyssey. This, after going back to play galaxy and sunshine.
It felt like mario 64 and sunshine perfected the adventure exploration, Galaxy 1 and 2 perfected the platforming and Odyssey brought it all together ❤
My List:
1. Sunshine
2. 64
3. Galaxy
4. Galaxy 2
5. Odyssey
6. 64 DS
7. 3D World
8. Bowser's Fury
9. 3D Land
I agree. Sunshine deserves to be at the top.
Sunshine is my favorite Mario game.
If you have a history in Kirby, get Forgotten Land. Otherwise get Odyssey.
3d land is #3 for me but at least he didnt forget about it
I think Mario odyssey is my favorite video game EVER not listening to the community also exactly agree with your ranking
I know a lot of people love the Galaxy games, but personally I really didn’t like any part where I had to run around on a small sphere. It often made me feel dizzy and would give me a headache after some time.
64 sunshine galaxy and odyssey all hit the mark, they all have their pros and cons but I loved going for all the stars/shines/moons on all of them
Super Mario sunshine is my personal favorite too!!!!loveeee that game so much but I’m in the exact same page as you, I know it different upon most Mario games but it’s sooo unique
Super Mario Galaxy is still the best 3D title in my opinion. The music, the levels, the visuals, the overall concept is just amazing.
They're all GREAT
before i even see the video its gonna be between mario galaxy and mario odyssey everything else was nice and all but these 2 just stand out more than any other 3d mario
I actually enjoy 3D Land more than 3D World. With the fixed isometric camera, I think the stereoscopic 3D really helps.
You forgot Mario rabbids if it counts
Technically that's a RPG yes there is 3D parts like the hub world but that's not the main part of the game.
Finally someone who realizes how good Mario 64 da really is
Super Mario 64 for me.
Top for me is Odyssey. Bottom will have to be Sunshine. Never really cared for that one.
Not a single day makes me forget Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey because I love these games
Odyssey's controls really are the best. Galaxy has the best level design. Mario is just a tad slow in Galaxy. If 64 didn't have tank turning, I'd bump it up a bit. Good list
Them thinking there the best trilogy😕
1: super mario 3d land
2: super mario 3d world
3: Bowsers fury
Did you forget about us? 😎
1 Super mario bros
2 Super mario bros 2 USA
3 Super Mario Bros 3
Thank you for making Mario odyssey my favorite game ever I’m subscribing
Nothin like soaring off the top of the tallest tower in Metro Land😂
3d land has always been so underrated to me
Bowser's Fury is my fav Mario game and I will stand by that
Quality over Quantity
Dude, the dedication it took to type this all out...phenomenal
Completely agree, and I’m not sure galaxy could ever be topped tbh
My favorite is Super Mario Galaxy 2, and my second favorite is Princess Peach: Showtime!.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a much better camera than Super Mario Odyssey because the camera has smooth interpolation, and it is automatic, so you don't have to be controlling two analog sticks at once. The movement in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is more precise, so players cannot just speed through every level and skip past all the interesting mechanics and level design. In Super Mario Odyssey, moons are scattered everywhere and if you collect enough, you can skip the main story and boss fights.
princess peach showtime isnt even a mario game bro it doesnt even have mario in the game 🤦🤦🤦
