"I finally got to play through my mom's childhood game" .... and with that, I whither away and fade into the wind, returning to dust after this long and arduous journey called life.
Yoshi’s Island. Nearly perfect game. Bosses are pretty easy and Baby Mario constantly crying can drive you insane, but what a joy to play. The amount of challenge the game has is more than enough, especially when you’re trying to 100% the game.
There are only three video games I consider to be perfect even though they’re not literally flawless: 1. Resident Evil 4 (2005) 2. Super Metroid 3. Super Mario Bros 3
Can I ask, what’s so special about og re4? Is it just nostalgia? Cause I liked the game but I didn’t think it was one of the greatest games of all time you know
@@quasiKB It’s not nostalgia. I will try my best to explain why I think OG RE4 is so special, I don’t think I can convince you but maybe you will get a better understanding of why the game is still so highly regarded by players and critics even if you don’t agree (which is totally fine). If you really break it down, all Leon can do is stand still and point and shoot; and that simplicity is part of how it immediately gets you into this mode of consciously analyzing situations and being intentional about everything you do. Corralling enemies into a single spot and headshot-ing one of them to set the whole group up for a juicy roundhouse kick seems so basic, but having to actively look for ways to achieve that scenario never stops being engaging. The shooting feels psychologically satisfying. It was as if Shinji Mikami and his team decided to start making a game just based on the idea of making shooting as satisfying and fun as possible. And damn, how they succeeded. Everything from the laser reticle, to reload animations, enemy hit reactions, poping sound of a headshot, even the intensity and moments of time at which the gamepad vibrates. OG RE4 takes a pretty basic combat loop of directional body damage/3D aiming and melee system, and then pushes it to the absolute limit by having so many diverse encounters and enemy types. Moving platforms, armored enemies, tight corridors, open areas. The game never stops throwing new things at you throughout the whole 15-20 hours, It's almost nintendo-like in that it feels like it tries to squeeze everything out of its simple mechanics, constantly surprises you and never seems to repeat itself. Every battle feels like a scenario that has been planned out meticulously, the way the enemies seem to hem you in and force you on the back foot, the way the environments are used to create a unique encounter each time. It perfectly utilizes each combat arena with specific gimmicks and creative hazards. The game is so good at creating this environment for player freedom and experimentation, while also making the enemies capable enough to push new combat experiences through their varied actions. It's designed in such a way that you could probably watch twenty people play one part and see it play out almost twenty different ways. What’s impressive is that all of this is done with the same simple mechanics that you had since chapter 1. And beyond that, the game has a good sense of peaks and valleys, with plenty of quiet, atmospheric moments in between some of the more climactic battles. All of the explosive set-pieces were earned. For every cabin fight or military island attack, you had a half dozen 'catch your breath' and tension building areas, and these areas never outstayed their welcome. The pacing and the ebb and flow of the game was masterfully done. All the different weapons, the upgrade system, enemy types, random loot drops: they add to the basic formula in a way that’s so elegant and immediate that it makes every modern action RPG looter shooter whatever the hell hybrid look like a dry, convoluted Excel spreadsheet by comparison. The game is so no-nonsense that I honestly struggle to come up with more ways to explain why it’s so good that aren't obvious.
@@quasiKB Ignore the reply the guy gave you, you'll pretty much just see every person who plays this game shoot an enemy in the head, walk up to the enemy, abuse s to kick an entire group of enemies down, and then knife them while they get back up.
Halo: Combat Evolved, Zelda: Link to the Past and Super Mario World. The introduction of Yoshi, and the immaculate level design crushes anything the less controllable Super Mario Bros 3 offers. PERIOD.
While I do like Halo: CE I'm gonna have to hard disagree on that one. The game's level design in certain sections is repetitive and to an extent visually unapealing + too much back tracking. I feel like Halo 3 is just better in so many ways over Halo: CE, that if you were going to pick a Halo as a perfect game it should be 3
chrono trigger would be a contender. A jrpg that could not be made today, bringing together so many creative titans to collaborate on a once in a life time game. Ahead of it's time and has aged wonderfully.
I think you should have included portal 2, because it has everything the first game has to offer and much more. It has tons of new mechanics that are so well perfected, it has great writing and a better atmosphere. It also has a good amount of story and lore and it really just takes you on an adventure.
I agree that portal 2 is the better game and also nearly perfect. Not only for all the reasons you mentioned but also the difficulty curve is as close to perfect as you can get. Nothing overstays its welcome. Plus the puzzles are perfectly challenging without being incredibly hard. That said, OG portal is also basically perfect.
I think Bioshock deserves a nod. In a year where we got games like Mario Galaxy, Portal, Mass Effect, and COD4, a small studio and even smaller team of developers gave us arguably the best story-oriented FPS/action-adventure game in Bioshock
This is what I was looking for. Just played through DKC1 this past year for the first time. And while I can honestly say I loved it, DKC2 and 3 are so much more polished overall. Seemed weird to have Paper Mario TTYD on this list and not DKC2, because it's the same idea. Basically the same game but all around better than its predecessor.
The only game I would add to this list is Terraria. This game is just constant fun, with tons of replayability. It just keeps getting more updates, and I have nothing that I don’t like about it.
About Mario 3D World being the best multiplayer experience. Totally agree, it was so nice players being able to just jump in. I remember playing it, friend came home he picked up a controller and was playing right away. No stop, no pause, just connect and jump in. The game is very fun too.
Not to be "That guy" but if we are talking about perfect games you shouldn't forget to put Chrono Trigger on the list... everyone who has played it will understand.
Ugh that guy again… just kidding, Chrono Trigger is a powerhouse when it comes to rpgs, 1000/10 I wish I’d forget it as a whole just to replay it all over again
Perfect music, art style, and fairly simple but perfect gameplay. Story is lovely and the time travel aspects are done great. Another reason I like it so much, is the games pacing and the fact that the dungeons don't overstay their welcome. For example one of my other favourite games, Persona 4/P4G, the dungeons seem too long to be such samey-looking areas and just a few variations of enemies changing every few floors. I guess it's to balance out the social life and story-bits but the pacing seems a bit dull. There is freedom when to do the dungeons and in how many parts, but since there are deadlines, it doesn't encourage to spend too many days in a dungeon.
Imo portal 2 is the better version of portal 1 in every way. It revolutionized humor of early 2010’s as well as having the best cast of characters for any game yet. They have less than 7 characters, yet they all feel important. There is no filler imo. Every chamber has some voice line from one of the characters that makes it unique. And they introduced gels and removed the energy balls. Now you can’t be killed from a random piece of the puzzle lol. Also old aperture is my favorite part of any game ever. You get to uncover the unethical yet hilarious tests of a mad man with money and power who founded the scientific prison you are encased in.
I prefer Portal 1 just because I think it needed to be a shorter game. Portal 2 is phenomenal and it is paced very well but there were a few areas where it felt like it could end and it kept going.
I love that someone who played Mario as a kid, now has their own child who also has discovered the love of games. It might make some of us feel old but i choose to view it as an affirmation of the longevity of video games and how they have come to be appreciated as art. Games can be a positive force in the world and I hope everyone comes to realise that they have just as much to offer as any artwork, and that they can bring families closer by passing them down to the younger generations to find out for themselves!
Heck yeah brother! Not sure how old you are, but I am a 2001 baby and for a few years now I've taken a lot more interest in older games I missed out on either because I was too young or wasn't even alive. So I'm really looking forward to playing some oldies
Being old is awesome, being a kid during the rise of the NES, then SNES, video games at home in general, it was an incredible time. I was 8-9ish when Mario 3 released, it was massive. Hell, there was a movie ( the wizard ) about Nintendo, that served as a promo/unveiling of super Mario 3.
Metal Gear Solid 3? The game is very good, Ithink it's probably the best MGS game, which is already the best of the Stealth action genre. I'm going to say, since two people replied saying that MGS2 is their favorite, and that it could also be considered perfect, I however, can't say because I haven't played enough of it.
@@pedrogoncalves4585 I get that as well, honestly, the two of these might just be up to a matter of preference, I prefer Snake Eater for what it does while you and Monkey Heist prefer 2 for what it does.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time for the SNES - The absolute pinnacle of side scrolling beat em ups. All these years later and no one does it better. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga - A breezy RPG adventure with a hilarious story and addictive gameplay. I can play it any time and have a ton of fun. Sly 2: Band of Thieves - I was completely taken over by this game, body and soul. A completely immersive stealth platforming experience that delivers on EVERY. SINGLE. FRONT. Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 - Me and my bro had so much frickin fun teleporting across the screen and launching Kamehamehas. Unlocking capsules in the single player mode never got old. An unforgettable game. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End - A cinematic storytelling gold with lovable characters and a gripping story. Gameplay was polished to the utmost and multiplayer was a blast. Flawless game. Dead or Alive 5 - Fun fun fun fun fun fun. For all the reasons you expect. Cool characters, sick moves, great graphics… what more could you want. Cave Story - Indie gaming heaven! Tight 2d Metroidvania with a really fun setting a cool weapon leveling feature. Not the most unique game ever but the magic is in the execution. Tales of Symphonia - The most addictive RPG I’ve ever played. An 80 hour anime epic with an action packed battle system and deep character progression. I think it’s the best one.
It's meant to be a lonely, self-reflective experience, where the devs tuned back and removed anything and everything that wouldn't serve the game's themes and narrative. I understand why some people don't like SOTC cause it's "empty" but if you were looking for a game with lots of stuff to get distracted by, SOTC isn't meant to be like that.@@leonardoandreoliveiracorre5286
Last of Us 1 will forever in my mind be the most "perfect" game I've ever played. It's the only game that I put down the controller and clapped after my first time beating it.
Guy didn‘t just say TOTK was perfect… it has perfect physics and crazy building mechanics. But what in the heavens was that story?? No way this game is perfect! And yes BOTW>TOTK
Not on here, I’d like to nominate Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Elden Ring, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy VI, the Halo trilogy, Bioshock, and Ninja Gaiden Black. Quite a few, but give them a shot if you haven’t.
Good nominations. Being as old as I am, I have to add the hidden gem "The Guardian Legend" on NES. Plus, Super Metroid is my #1 favorite game of all time. And Mass Effect...
@@chanceneck8072 I definitely had Super Metroid in mind while typing this out, but forgot. Mass Effect as well, but as amazing as it is, it’s somewhat flawed.
@@HarbingerH absolutely. Mass Effect 2 is even objectively a better game but I always only mention the first game as a placeholder for the entire trilogy. They gave me the last amazing gaming experience of my life, I loved and finished all 3 games before I essentially quit gaming for good (at least any new releases). If you wanna know why.... It's a simple but yet still depressing reason... 😅 It's because Konami cancelled P.T. ..... Something.... I don't even know how else to explain it, but as cheesy as it sounds, something important inside of me died that day... Silent Hills, as the playable teaser was promising, could have been the gaming experience of my dreams, as far as I can say. So, when they cancelled that, I basically said "Okay, well then screw you, too! 🫡" And that's how it's basically been ever since....
Crash Team Racing (CTR) absolutely deserves a mention when talking about perfect games, especially in the kart racing genre. Not only did it rival every Mario Kart released up until that point, but it arguably outclassed them in most ways, making it a standout title that still holds up today as one of the best kart racers ever made. The track design was nothing short of brilliant. Each track was meticulously crafted, with a perfect balance of challenge and fun. The incredibly hard shortcuts, hidden routes, and interactive environments added layers of depth that rewarded players for skillful driving and exploration, something that, to this extend, was ahead of its time. The character roster was diverse and well-balanced, with each character bringing unique stats to the table, adding strategic depth to the choice of racer. The power-up system was also innovative, allowing skilled players to amplify the effectiveness of items through techniques like Power Sliding, which added another layer of strategy and mastery to the game. Moreover, CTR’s Adventure Mode set it apart from the competition. Unlike Mario Kart’s straightforward Grand Prix, CTR offered a fully-fledged single-player experience with bosses, challenges, and collectibles that made it more than just a racing game-it was an adventure in itself. Even the controls were incredibly tight and responsive, giving players a real sense of control and rewarding precise inputs. The Power Slide mechanic, in particular, was a game-changer, adding a level of challenge that set it apart from other racers, where mastering and connecting drift boosts to keep momentum was key to victory, as opposed to many other kart racer’s rubberbanding system. Skill came first, your given items second, instead of the other way around. To this day, Crash Team Racing is praised for how well it holds up. The fact that it received a successful remaster decades later speaks volumes about its lasting appeal and quality. It wasn’t just another kart racer. It was, and still is, a benchmark for the genre.
The problem I run into is teaching the drift mechanics to noobs however once they do it’s a blast and much more challenging than Mario’s karts at time pure chance games.
Some of my picks that you didn’t mention include: -Terraria -Doom Eternal -Chrono Trigger -Final Fantasy 6 -Final Fantasy 9 -Xenoblade Chronicles -The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -Rayman Legends -Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Apart from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and 9, and Xenoblade Chronicles, I've played the rest of those games, and here's why I didn't include them Terraria: I love the game but it just has an insane amount of weapons, items, armor sets. I understand there's not any noticable issues but there's just SO MUCH in this game to where I didn't know if I should include it Doom Eternal: I love this game for its atmosphere, but I wasn't sure what to think about some of its combat mechanics, although I've been more favorable to it lately. Twilight Princess: It's close to perfect so I guess I definitely could've included it. I chose Ocarina of Time over it tho because I think the pacing is miles better. Rayman Legends: I didn't think the level design is as consistently solid as it is in mario and donkey kong platformers and I thought the game controlled a bit wonky, but I still think it's a great game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: This game could definitely be mentioned. I guess I didn't like the inclusion of Mario Kart Tour tracks in the DLCs Overall all of these games COULD make an appearance in part 2, and I still have time to come up with a list.
While Twilight Princess is indeed one of my all time favorite video games, it does have some flaws. The introduction is slow, especially on replays. Some of the bosses are laughably easy and basically consist of “shoot the big glowing eye”. Some of the items become useless outside of their initial dungeon. Finally there was the questionable storyline decision to bring back Ganondorf at the last second. Again a solid 10/10 game, but not flawless.
Duke 3D and Doom have a few dicey level designs later on, though the first episodes of each are basically perfect. Quake was perfect until world 4 where the kamikaze blobs are introduced.
My big issue with the original Red Dead Redemption is that I think the game's story is incredibly awfully paced. Like there's 57 missions in the games main story, yet mission 24 feels like the end of the first act, when the stories really gonna start to get going, but you're already almost at the halfway point, so everything past that point feels extremely rushed and as a result many characters like Landon just end up randomly disappearing from the plot entirely without any sort of resolution to their character or acknowledgement of their existence past a certain point and most of the characters just are unable to get developed properly. Like in the first 24 missions you get shot, go through this whole tutorial on the ranch with Bonnie, fight some outlaws, and finally kill Bill Williamson. That's all that happens in the first 24 missions and it's incredibly paced. The final 9 missions are essentially and epilogue where you spend the game with your family retire to a peaceful life and (spoilers) so everything else that happens in the story literally happens between missions 25 and 48, the exact same amount as what feels like the first act. There should been at least that many missions just in Mexico, as well as like 24 more missions to build up to Dutch. Like this game genuinely should've been like 80 something missions, because at this state it felt beyond rushed to me.
I will say the story isn't perfect, but I will defend it in this regard. I think the reason there's 24 missions in the first act is because it's supposed to be seen as the beginning of the grind. As you get to mexico you're way closer to tracking willamson and escuela down so the game didn't try to drag itself on for any longer. Then when you're in west elizabeth you're on the final step of the process, and once you're done they didn't want to bore the player by making like 20 farming missions. Maybe this explanation is just a cope but I actually don't mind the story pacing since I've played through the game like 7 times. One thing I DON'T like about the game is the thing you mentioned about the character resolutions, but actually Landon Rickets does get a character resolution, granted it's a small one. Once you beat the game you can buy a newspaper that says he passed away peacefully in his sleep in mexico. edit: in terms of character resolutions, I wish you could meet up with bonnie mcfarlane, abraham reyes, ect, as jack marston after you beat the game. It'd be a good tribute to not just their characters, but John's character as well.
hollow knight would be perfect for me if the map was way more fleshed out. if they allowed you to draw on it to fill in some context it would be perfect.
A few more: Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (Diablo II: Resurrected now) - I'm playing this since it came out on and off. It's just a perfect blueprint for an ARPG. It feels like there is nothing you can add to it or take from it which makes it any better. Chrono Trigger - It's just a perfect game, with interesting characters, world, lore, time travelling, beautiful pixel art, music. Lots of really talented people worked on it. Still fun to play today after many years. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - Actually I'm not really a big fan of this game, but I still think it's perfect. Same as Diablo 2, it's a blueprint for turn based strategy games. Master Of Orion 2 - It's also a turn based strategy game, but in a scifi setting. After many years I'm still playing it. Remakes of classic point and click adventure games like Broken Sword 1, Day of the Tentacle, Myst.
I'm glad you mentioned at the end of the video that even "perfect" games can have flaws. Tetris as a concept can be considered perfect, but believe me, every single version of Tetris has at least one major mechanical flaw and they're all so different from each other in how they control and feel
i remember i was in college studying games dev, and i cant remember why but we were playing tetris on the computers. out lecturer comes over and hes in his 60s, and he just goes absolutely ham on this game, it was amazing
When I saw this video title I immediately thought of Portal and was very happy to see it be the second game you mentioned. I agree with a lot of your other picks, as I actually really like all the games you talked about but I wouldn't necessarily say that they are all perfect, but some get pretty close.
THANK YOU for mentioning the messenger. Such an underrated game and it’s gotta be the most fun I’ve had with a game and also the only game I’ve 100%ed.
@@WyvrnOnYT Generation 5 in general was peak. The story of the first part was very intriguing while B/W 2 really expanded on the endgame activities. Sadly it didn't sell as well so we never got another sequel.
The turn based combat in Pokémon games is not good... in general its very clunky and basic that it is just bad. Other then that its just very grindy for no reason. If you like Pokémon games thats fine but for sure not even close to perfect considering that all of the games are all plagued by the same flaws. In my opinion at least.
Great list! However, you can’t make a list of the greatest games of all time and ignore one of the most important 2D games in history: *Sonic 3 & Knuckles.* The game represents the absolute peak of what is considered the most influential and culturally relevant 2D character ever, alongside Mario. The level design, graphics, music (with Michael Jackson and his team as composers), innovative in-game storytelling, and groundbreaking lock-on technology (a precursor to the DLC trend) all felt incredibly fresh and polished. These elements make the game a milestone in the 2D platform genre, and its influence can still be felt today. Other games worth mentioning: - Streets of Rage - Crash Team Racing - Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - RE4
One that I will include is Mega Man X. For people who like fast side scrolling chaotic action games. It took the original Mega Man’s formula and literally doubled down on everything. Fell in love with the game instantly.
The game that immediately comes to mind as a „perfect“ game is DKC: Tropical Freeze. Literally every level feels handcrafted and not tilebased, there’s a lot of music that only appears in singular levels and the world and level themes are some of the most unique, too. The only bad aspect that it really has is the low number of bonus levels which can get really repetitive and those capsule gacha mechanics, though they’re optional Edit: Yay you mentioned it! And yeah, I forgot about Diddy being cucked like that
I actually like Diddy. For some platforming, the lift on her jump makes her annoying to control for me. The fact that she dips, when she does her float can also be annoying. There were situations when I preferred one over the other for sure.
Dark Souls 3 is flawed though. Many areas were left half-baked (Consumed King's Garden, Profaned Capital, Smouldering Lake for example) and the lore failed hard to clear the bar set by DeS, DS1 and even DS2.
My 4 perfects are as follows: 1. Terraria 2. Witcher 3 3. Stardew Valley 4. DayZ I come back to these 4 games over and over again, despite having nearly 200 titles in my Steam account.
My top 10 games all time. 1. Street fighter 4 2. Smash bros 3. Zelda botw 4. Spider man ps4 5. Street fighter 6 6. SNK vs Capcom 7. Mortal kombat x 8. Final fantasy 16 9. Cod black ops 10. Star Wars battlefront 2 2005
Solid list I would also add Super Metroid Metal gear solid 3 Final fantasy 6 / chrono trigger Banjo kazooie And hm to majoras mask, i personally think mm is better than oot but i can also see it having more flaws. Higher highs lower lows type situation
I played the first one on release and was shocked how little weaponry, enemies, and variety there was compared to other games. Halo 2 fixed most things. Halo 3 perfected it.
Not a huge gamer, but I play a little and collect a lot. Crazy to think that a new physical copy of RDR2 for PS4 is $19.93 at Walmart still. Coming from a pure investment standpoint, these games sealed have a 99.9-100% chance of being a $400-$500 item in 15 years and a $1000+ item per copy in 20-25 years.
I'll be sure to keep that in mind next time I see one in walmart. I could see that being the case, though that game has sold so well it certainty won't ever be rare. The sealed version might go up in price soley because of its collection demand though.
I suggest playing the Metal Gear series. Although they aren’t the longest games, they are all revolutionary in their own way and the storytelling is immaculate.
There’s a lot more games you should’ve mentioned: God of War 2, Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, TLOU, Uncharted 2, Mario 64, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy 7, Dead Space, and Bloodbourne
Interesting choices. I was going to say Mass Effect 1 was better imo, but then I remembered the premise of the video. I think ME1 is overall better but ME2 is less flawed, so you're right. By that same logic, I think Bioshock 2 is actually a better pick than 1 because it doesn't have the third act slump and the gameplay is almost universally better. I also think Dead Space Remake is more perfect than the original. Otherwise, I agree with everything on your list. Great taste. Also, it's been a while since I played them, why God of War 2 specifically? 4 and Ragnarok are far from perfect, but I remember 3 being incredible.
I think terraria should've been here. Also mario wonder is another amazing 2d mario game. And metroid dread is one of the best metroid games and is my favorite (I think I remember you saying you haven't played it though)
I've played all these games and have personally decided to not include them. I love terraria and mario wonder, and like metroid dread. For Terraria, I think it's an amazing game but the reason I didn't choose it is because there's just SO SO MANY weapons, items, ect, to the point where I can't say for sure that it's all perfectly designed though. It's still a top 5 favorite game for me. For Mario Wonder, I just decided to include Mario 3 and Mario World because I personally think they have better difficulty balancing and better bossfights. For Metroid Dread I think the game is great but just didn't enjoy it as much as other metroidvanias.
@@WyvrnOnYTmario wonder has the most interesting mechanic in any game I’ve played personally which is why I think you should’ve included it (idek if it’s one of my top 10 games ever, but it’s close to perfect aside from the boss fights being pretty absent)
@@WyvrnOnYT idk for terraria, i kinda like that there are a lot of weapons and variety. i get the other 2 though. Metroid dread is less focused on the metroidvania-ness and more on the combat
Replaying Perfect Dark (n64), the only thing holding it back was framerate issues. Other than that, the game was packed with endless content and beautiful attention to detail, especially for a game with 32MB in 2000. The enemies pulling melee moves when in close range with the endless cheesy dialogue, getting dizzy when getting hit, enemies hobbling on one leg or holding an arm (depending on where they're shot), 45+ minutes of cutscenes, surprisingly complex missions, and packed multiplayer. Had a HELL of a time with it way back and so many modern games failed to surprise me as much.
@@Derysss I don't see this game being a pioneer of any kind. There were plenty of Open World games with survival elements and absolute freedom. Even Morrowind is more open, as you can defeat final boss if you leveled yourself enough, and leveling is very open in that game.
Games that are perfect to me: Last of us part 1 and 2 Uncharted 2 and 4 Original final fantasy 7 Final fantasy 10 Bully Suikoden 2 and 3 Skyrim (my all time favorite over 20k hours lol)
"Since the characters arent completely balanced, it is technically not a perfect video game." Spoken like a true commie. But seriously, nice recap. You included all the best games here
witcher 3 is great but the open world feels very cookie cutter in certain ways and the story feels more high fantasy when compared to the darker atmosphere of the first two. it is still my favorite in the series despite that and the open world is still mostly good.
Super Mario 3 is one of those games that will live forever. The controls are the most responding, its canon for new lore and designs, and its a pleasure to play. I love so many Mario games but that one is just too perfect.
One thing i really did not like about Red Dead is the total lack of variation when it comes to tasks, quests etc. more or less everything you have to do to progress in the story consists of 3-4 different things and they constantly repeat each other...besides that the game is marvellous
Honestly my reasoning is that minecraft gets yearly updates, so there's a ton of possibilities for mistakes and I'd argue a lot have already been made to the game.
Calling Elden Ring perfect is hilarious. It’s good but people simp way too hard over it. Some of the worst balancing a game has ever had ans still remains poorly balanced and late game areas are sadly short and too empty. You could also throw in the fact that when it released, most people’s experience with it was very buggy. Radagons wolf, a death rite bird, radagon, Elden beast, and about half a dozen others were bugged and either killer themselves or didn’t fight back.
@@luisega9it only has a few bugs, but it’s very rare. Every game has bugs though so… I don’t really see a problem as long as it doesn’t affect gameplay often Also I totally agree subnautica is so atmospheric
@@luisega9Subnautica in VR is legitimately the scariest game of all time and it's not even a "horror game." My only complaints with Subnautica are the pop in and performance issues as well as how it gets kind of boring after you make your first good base.
Personal bias - Borderlands 2, Objectively judging - Dead Cells! Also, this video really showcases why I love Switch as a console, and Nintendo in general.
Playing the remaster of TTYD this year made me remember why I like the first one so much more. A lot of things are better in the 2nd game but that horrific pacing in several chapters kills it for me.
I don't agree with Zelda TOTK being perfect at all. I think it had plenty of issues, arguably even more than Breath of the Wild did. I'd lay off on deltarune until it's fully released personally. Given the trajectory of the game there's still a lot more room for issues. Mario Galaxy 1+2 and Undertale are ones I could get behind.
Zelda totk, just like botw, is an amazing game with a lots of big flaws, like the way the story is written, the lack of interesting things to do in the depth and sky. Totk is impressing because it is a great game despite a lot of flaws, but because of that it can't pretend to be perfect
@@SERMareep2007TOTK doesn’t stack up against any other Zelda game, story wise. Might be the worst story in the entire franchise. Game mechanics? Absolutely stunning. Storytelling? Some of the laziest I’ve ever seen from Nintendo.
That line about DKC being your Mom's childhood game was like an existential moment for me. RUclips started with a bunch of adults waxing nostalgic about games from the 80s/90s. It's insane to think that an entire generation has grown up in that time and are now making RUclips videos.

Yoshi’s Island. Nearly perfect game. Bosses are pretty easy and Baby Mario constantly crying can drive you insane, but what a joy to play. The amount of challenge the game has is more than enough, especially when you’re trying to 100% the game.
It’s almost perfect except for level 1-7. The most cryptic thing is n any video game if you want to 100%
I think baby Mario is the only thing that makes it a 9/10
I really need to get this game
@@WyvrnOnYT it's on SNES online for switch
I came for this comment. Yoshi's Island is a 10 for me. The graphics, the music, everything is 👌
There are only three video games I consider to be perfect even though they’re not literally flawless:
1. Resident Evil 4 (2005)
2. Super Metroid
3. Super Mario Bros 3
Super Metroid, still play it from time to time. Such a timeless classic.
4. Chrono Trigger
I feel like Halo 3 is just better in so many ways over Halo: CE, that if you were going to pick a Halo as a perfect game it should be 3
Yes Mario world is superior to Mario bros 3

I think Bioshock deserves a nod. In a year where we got games like Mario Galaxy, Portal, Mass Effect, and COD4, a small studio and even smaller team of developers gave us arguably the best story-oriented FPS/action-adventure game in Bioshock

Donkey Kong Country 2 perfected the formula of the first game.
Absolutely, DKC2 is a gem. Its soundtrack, art, levels, everything.
Easily the best of the series, all around.
Absolutely
I'll be talking about this one in part 2. Have one major complaint with it though.
The only game I would add to this list is Terraria. This game is just constant fun, with tons of replayability. It just keeps getting more updates, and I have nothing that I don’t like about it.
I find it so hard to get into Terraria, it seems so complex, but I want to get into it
So true! Terraria is definitely my favourite game of all time. It has by far the best progression system I have ever experienced in a video game
@V1Salvo It can be overwhelming at first but if you take things slowly to learn all the basics one by one it becomes a lot easier to get into it.
@V1Salvo try playing with friends it's more fun and helps you get into it. I can play with you if you want

@@IsraelSilvaMonje Smart man right here!
You get to uncover the unethical yet hilarious tests of a mad man with money and power who founded the scientific prison you are encased in.
i also dont get why he didnt put hl2 in it it was downright the ehighest user rated game of all time for like 10 years or so
I prefer Portal 1 just because I think it needed to be a shorter game.

I am a HUGE Metroid fan so Metroid prime being here makes me so happy!
metroid prime series is too slow, samus is supposed to be fast. i did enjoy it though but not as much as 2d metroids which are the best.

Shadows of the Colossus is a masterpiece.
Meh, a pretty large area with nothing to do, kinda boring. The fights against the colossus are cool, though.

It's meant to be a lonely, self-reflective experience, where the devs tuned back and removed anything and everything that wouldn't serve the game's themes and narrative. Disco Elysium is a treasure
p5r clears p4g😂😂
original persona 4 is better than golden
P4G is not perfect because Teddy exists

Last of Us 1 will forever in my mind be the most "perfect" game I've ever played. It's the only game that I put down the controller and clapped after my first time beating it.
id like to nominate:
-disco elysium
-MGS3
-ToTK
-Hades
BOTW> Totk
Guy didn‘t just say TOTK was perfect… it has perfect physics and crazy building mechanics. But what in the heavens was that story?? No way this game is perfect!
And yes BOTW>TOTK
Hades is definitely underrated. In that genre I would also say Diablo 2 and Nox are damn near perfect. Barely anyone remembers Nox though.
Those are some good picks
@@chanceneck8072 I definitely had Super Metroid in mind while typing this out, but forgot. Mass Effect as well, but as amazing as it is, it’s somewhat flawed.
@@HarbingerH absolutely. Mass Effect 2 is even objectively a better game but I always only mention the first game as a placeholder for the entire trilogy. They gave me the last amazing gaming experience of my life, I loved and finished all 3 games before I essentially quit gaming for good (at least any new releases).
If you wanna know why....
It's a simple but yet still depressing reason... 😅
It's because Konami cancelled P.T.
And that's how it's basically been ever since....
I would add ghost of Tsushima, god of war, Sekiro, and breath of the wild
Finally, another CTR enjoyer. This game CLEARS even today and it's so much fun. Lifetime memories crushing the tracks with my family
Thanks for mentioning this, I otherwise wouldn't of been curious to check out this game
Still my favorite racing game of all time. CTRNF remake was genious but the original CTR was so much fun. 10/10 game for sure!
Mario Kart > all
The problem I run into is teaching the drift mechanics to noobs however once they do it’s a blast and much more challenging than Mario’s karts at time pure chance games.
Some of my picks that you didn’t mention include:
-Terraria
-Doom Eternal
-Chrono Trigger
-Final Fantasy 6
-Final Fantasy 9
-Xenoblade Chronicles
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-Rayman Legends
-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Apart from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and 9, and Xenoblade Chronicles, I've played the rest of those games, and here's why I didn't include them
Terraria: I love the game but it just has an insane amount of weapons, items, armor sets. I understand there's not any noticable issues but there's just SO MUCH in this game to where I didn't know if I should include it
Doom Eternal: I love this game for its atmosphere, but I wasn't sure what to think about some of its combat mechanics, although I've been more favorable to it lately.
I guess I didn't like the inclusion of Mario Kart Tour tracks in the DLCs
Overall all of these games COULD make an appearance in part 2, and I still have time to come up with a list.
Rayman origins would be better than legends
Mk8dx isn’t even the best Mario kart game.
Again a solid 10/10 game, but not flawless.
put FF7 instead of 9, cuz 9 is overrated, story and characters are just weak spot of it's game
Bloodborne
sekiro shadow die twice
Factorio
Hollow knight are close to be perfect
Space Invaders and Doom and maybe even Quake, Duke Nukem 3D and Geometry Wars qualify as perfect
Also Hotline Miami, Mirror's Edge, Earthbound, Neon White
Duke 3D and Doom have a few dicey level designs later on, though the first episodes of each are basically perfect. Quake was perfect until world 4 where the kamikaze blobs are introduced.
Well Diddy Kong gets 1-ups for his special move while Dixie gets banana coins. But yeah, gameplay-wise she's really just a straight upgrade

Great list!
However, you can’t make a list of the greatest games of all time and ignore one of the most important 2D games in history:
*Sonic 3 & Knuckles.*
The game represents the absolute peak of what is considered the most influential and culturally relevant 2D character ever, alongside Mario.
Other games worth mentioning:
- Streets of Rage
- Crash Team Racing
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
- RE4
One that I will include is Mega Man X. For people who like fast side scrolling chaotic action games. It took the original Mega Man’s formula and literally doubled down on everything. Fell in love with the game instantly.
For me Witcher 3 and its dlcs are as perfect as games can be
Literally, the only issue is controlling roach
@@jiyghkjsduhjkbkb just imagine Witcher 3 with RDR2 level of tight control and polish
@@DaoistYeashikAli thats basically just TW3 with mods
@@jiyghkjsduhjkbkb any mod you recommend?
@@DaoistYeashikAli depends what you’re looking for. I personally love character texture mods, so new outfits and hairstyles.
The game that immediately comes to mind as a „perfect“ game is DKC: Tropical Freeze. Literally every level feels handcrafted and not tilebased, there’s a lot of music that only appears in singular levels and the world and level themes are some of the most unique, too. The only bad aspect that it really has is the low number of bonus levels which can get really repetitive and those capsule gacha mechanics, though they’re optional
Edit: Yay you mentioned it! And yeah, I forgot about Diddy being cucked like that
Heck yeah, its so much better than DKC: Returns.
@@NightmareLink110 And even that Game is pretty goated
I actually like Diddy. For some platforming, the lift on her jump makes her annoying to control for me. The fact that she dips, when she does her float can also be annoying.
There were situations when I preferred one over the other for sure.
Another game I would add to the list would be Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Otherwise all great games :)
My list:
-*Ocarina of Time*
-*Mario 64*
-*Skyrim*
-*Dark Souls 3*
-*Chrono Trigger*
-*Final Fantasy 7*
Dark Souls 3 is flawed though. Many areas were left half-baked (Consumed King's Garden, Profaned Capital, Smouldering Lake for example) and the lore failed hard to clear the bar set by DeS, DS1 and even DS2.
My 4 perfects are as follows:
1. Terraria
2. Witcher 3
3. Stardew Valley
4. DayZ
I come back to these 4 games over and over again, despite having nearly 200 titles in my Steam account.
Stardew valley is a sleeper pick I wasn't evan thinking about that buy yeah doesn't have many flaws
My top 10 games all time.
1. Street fighter 4
2. Smash bros
3. Zelda botw
4. Spider man ps4
5. Street fighter 6
6. SNK vs Capcom
7. Mortal kombat x
8. Final fantasy 16
9. Cod black ops
10. Star Wars battlefront 2 2005
Which Smash Bros. though?
Which smash
Eesh modern game bias. Out of all the Zeldas and Final Fantasies you picked BotW and FF16?
@@TheUnsymmetricalGuy smash ultimate
@@TheUnsymmetricalGuy smash ultimate

I would also add
Super Metroid
Metal gear solid 3
Final fantasy 6 / chrono trigger
Banjo kazooie
And hm to majoras mask, i personally think mm is better than oot but i can also see it having more flaws. Higher highs lower lows type situation
DKC 1 is not perfect, but DKC 2 is. It's better in every single way
cap. the donkey and diddy combo is more iconic
Came here to say this, DKC 2 is superior in every regard
Same with Portal 1 vs Portal 2
They're both feeble compared to YOSHI'S ISLAND
I'd like to agree, but there's 1 thing about the second game that I really hate. I still may include it in part 2
I’m glad you included tropical freeze. I played that so much with my daughter.

The fact that chaos theory isn’t on this list is crazy

@Thatpastaiscold you have no brain but okay congrats
The library is unbalanced and annoying af on legendary
100% agreed red dead has way more problems and didn’t set the standard for the genre like HCE did
I played the first one on release and was shocked how little weaponry, enemies, and variety there was compared to other games. Halo 2 fixed most things. Halo 3 perfected it.
I think Batman Arkham City is another contender. It took just about every mechanic from Asylum and fine tuned them graciously.
That game was a movie
Although they aren’t the longest games, they are all revolutionary in their own way and the storytelling is immaculate.
that sounds like my cup of tea actually. I prefer shorter games.
What I hear is that Nintendo knows how to do things... More than half of the games in this list are Nintendo
4 and Ragnarok are far from perfect, but I remember 3 being incredible.
i can just tell you’ve never played a game outside of sony games😂😂😂
@@gs32621 yeah? Mentioned Bioshock, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Mario 64, FF7. Half of my list are non Sony developers.
The fact that Mario 64 was as good as it is despite being Nintendo's first attempt at a 3D Mario game is beyond ridiculous.
@@theviniso same goes for Ocarina of Time, first 3D Zelda game and they perfected the genre
I literally have tropical freeze in a box ready to play and I forgot about it, lol. Time to get that sucker out and play! Thanks!
Diablo 2
Just missed:
Zelda Breath of The Wild
Super Mario 64
Agree with the latter.
How exactly Breath of the Wild is perfect, if Tears of the Kingdom is claimed to be better?
@@KeyleeTamirian breath was way more pioneer for its time, and set the pace for a lot of other games, including Tears itself
@@Derysss I don't see this game being a pioneer of any kind. There were plenty of Open World games with survival elements and absolute freedom.
Even Morrowind is more open, as you can defeat final boss if you leveled yourself enough, and leveling is very open in that game.
@@KeyleeTamirian good point, indeed. Maybe Zelda was just the one that had most repercussion

@DorisDay-lw4xs perhaps I am being a little too nit-picky. There are bound to be some mistakes in a video that long.
Games that are perfect to me:
Last of us part 1 and 2
Uncharted 2 and 4
Original final fantasy 7
Final fantasy 10
Bully
Suikoden 2 and 3
Skyrim (my all time favorite over 20k hours lol)
Subbed for mentioning Tetris and Portal immediately, but disappointed about there being no Chrono Trigger and MGS3 Snake Eater

No witcher 3 is criminal
@@jiyghkjsduhjkbkb I plan to play that soon
witcher 3 is great but the open world feels very cookie cutter in certain ways and the story feels more high fantasy when compared to the darker atmosphere of the first two. it is still my favorite in the series despite that and the open world is still mostly good.

Ever play Wario Land 4? Perfect pacing, fantastic level design, superb bosses, great controls.
Super Mario 3 is one of those games that will live forever. The controls are the most responding, its canon for new lore and designs, and its a pleasure to play. I love so many Mario games but that one is just too perfect.
Outer Wilds is my favorite game of all time and, even with its issues, is a perfect game in my eyes
Your statement alone renders it not perfect even in your own eyes.
I can tell you never played The Witcher 3 , otherwise you would have included it in your list.
I was going to make a very similar video but with the entire Zelda Franchise 😭
I would call this list, "games that I really enjoy and some of them are perfect"
One thing i really did not like about Red Dead is the total lack of variation when it comes to tasks, quests etc. more or less everything you have to do to progress in the story consists of 3-4 different things and they constantly repeat each other...besides that the game is marvellous
Yeah I got bored of RDR. It's a good game, but not amazing.
where's Minecraft ?!?!
Honestly my reasoning is that minecraft gets yearly updates, so there's a ton of possibilities for mistakes and I'd argue a lot have already been made to the game.
@@WyvrnOnYT okay that's fair, id say the early days of Minecraft before Microsoft bought it was arguably a perfect game
I know you dont realy like souls games but I will say elden ring and bloodborn are perfekt
Subnautica is up there imo😇
I played it and it was so immersive. Planning on completing it with vr. Thought it had UI issues though
@@luisega9it only has a few bugs, but it’s very rare. Every game has bugs though so… I don’t really see a problem as long as it doesn’t affect gameplay often

@@luisega9Subnautica in VR is legitimately the scariest game of all time and it's not even a "horror game."
My only complaints with Subnautica are the pop in and performance issues as well as how it gets kind of boring after you make your first good base.
Personal bias - Borderlands 2,
Objectively judging - Dead Cells!
Also, this video really showcases why I love Switch as a console, and Nintendo in general.
Playing the remaster of TTYD this year made me remember why I like the first one so much more. A lot of things are better in the 2nd game but that horrific pacing in several chapters kills it for me.
my favourite games of all time are omori, doki doki literature club plus (i specifically mention the plus version because of side stories) and oneshot
So you're a visual novel guy
@@rami2776 yeah, you could say that
Other games I'd consider perfect are Mario Galaxy 1+2, Undertale, Zelda TOTK, and Deltarune
Totk is the second best Zelda only behind wind waker@@WyvrnOnYT
Zelda totk, just like botw, is an amazing game with a lots
of big flaws, like the way the story is written, the lack of interesting things to do in the depth and sky. Totk is impressing because it is a great game despite a lot of flaws, but because of that it can't pretend to be perfect

That line about DKC being your Mom's childhood game was like an existential moment for me. RUclips started with a bunch of adults waxing nostalgic about games from the 80s/90s. It's insane to think that an entire generation has grown up in that time and are now making RUclips videos.
