  • ** update **
    -The metallic color in the silicon oil was caused by the aluminum dust left over from machining process and could be reduced if desired by cleaning the inside of the shock body out before oiling, Though I don't see any ill effect.
    - *** It was brought to my attention I made mistake, when the shocks won't fully compress it is because of too much oil (hydro-lock scenario) in the shock body that needs bled out instead of air. ***
    I want you to have the best information available, I will update this as needed!
    A little overview of the Desert Lizard 90mm Shock and a few different examples of setup and how they perform.
    This is just a few ideas on how you could set yours up if you have been struggling with them.
    Also a small run over of bleeding and things to look out for. I'm sure there are a few things I missed so please don't hesitate to ask questions. post them down in the comments!

    ITs not an air pocket. the shock is hydro locked from too much shock fluid in it. Which is why you have to bleed it again.
    AIr Compresses, so you likely have nearly all the air out, just too much oil to allow the shaft itself to fully enter the body.

    I started using Desert lizard shocks. Then tried all sorts of others . I have been very impressed with the performance.
    About the oil. I have seen that metallic oil all the time. Now that you mention it. When I repair motorcycle race engines. I always use dawn dish soap to scrub the aluminum parts when they come back from the machinist . This releases a lot of black metal from the machining process. I am going to try washing my new sets of shocks.

      I noticed after a few cycles of running and swapping oil the residue does get more sparse. Glad you have had a good experience with these shocks. They are phenomenal! Also thanks for the comment man, appreciate it

    Look at buying some of these for my first 1/0 lcg rig. I run a set up very similar on my scx lcg build. And that things a beast lol. Finally getting a 1/10 belly dragger and I can’t wait 😂😂😂😂 and that’s for the info man and your setup is so me I love slow crawling.

    I just happen to be setting up a set for a 6x6 I’m going to clean out the shock body’s with break keen and alcohol before I oil them. It will be interesting to see if the oil turns gray.

    Your shock wont fully compress, because it has to much oil, not because their air in it! Those are emulsion shock, hence should have air in them that can compress when the piston rod take space on compression.

      @@rctactical5600 I have idk how many sets I love them!!! I want try set drav Tech shocks but like 30-40$ more to get a set!!! Dessert lizard needs purple shock bodies hahha and few more colors

      I wad actually going to do a video of me stripping the paint and painting them another color, for custom colors. I am a big fan of lizards, but I have heard really good stuff about the Dravtechs as well.

    Old but gold video 👍🙂 Why did you choose 90 mm and not 100 mm, now you run with a droop setup?

      90 is just a preference, 100s seems to make it ride a little higher than I want.

      @@kenneth_jensen sorry I was rushing to work. I should have elaborated better.
      So while ride height is movable using various methods such as shock keys and what not in stock placement the 90s seem to be able to sit lower than the 100s which is my preference to keep the COG low. However, I also prefer 90s because of the amount of travel on 100s is just a little longer than what I am shooting for. Again you could tweak 100s to operate much like 90s depending upon spring setup. I usually shoot for the axles to stay as close to the chassis as I can under normal ride circumstances to keep tip over on side hill and steep ascension to a minimum.

    Okay… how bout shock valving. Meaning 1,2,3 or 4 hole piston, and will a 2 hole with 20 weight oil perform the same as a 4 hole with 40 weight… im getting ready to install some on my axial Capra and I’m curious

      That's an awesome question! I have used primarily the 4 hole pistons but theoretically what you saying should work until you get into higher weights. If you have 40w oil and a two hole piston, I don't think it will equal 80w with a 4 hole, you know? And the oil really just comes down to how fast you want the truck to respond with the weight of your rig/axles. If you have heavy axles, you will need heavier oil if you want don't want your shocks to compress and retract fast.

      I'm getting ready to toss these on my Capra, did you need to add a spacer or do anything special to mount them? I can't stand the kit shocks.

      If the Capra has the stand off ball studs up top like the scx10iii you might have to reuse those.

      Jeff I did some research and yes, use the top standoffs that come on your stock shocks so it will allow the side to side motion on your front axle

      @@rctactical5600 good to know, I'm actually going to run the ssd shocks instead and keep these as a backup. The bracket for the reservoir on the DL's is a bitch to put together.

    How much oil do you put in it with the small spring?

      If your talking about the third setup shown, I'd say roughly until the shock body is 1/8th full

    In th JL 40 weight in front 50 in rear would be better
