  • Welcome to TJsRC. Let's fix those leaking O-rings on the Desert Lizard shocks. I found a better O-ring for the shock cap, where mine had been leaking oil. Lets install it and see if it made a difference. This fix is just for if your shocks are leaking around the O-ring seal where the shock cap screws into the main body of the shock. This approach may also work if you are having a leak issue at the shock shaft seal but I haven't looked into that myself yet to know for sure. Comment and let us know if you've been having good luck or trouble with your Desert Lizard shocks.
    Here's the Amazon link to the O-ring kit I used.

    You don't have to get a kit with so many sizes just to fix the shocks but I wanted extra in various sizes for other projects down the road.
    For those that are interested, I want you to know that in spite of all the craziness of last year (2020) we are doing alright here in central Wisconsin. It has been hard though, to get much time for the hobby, which is why I haven't posted a video in a long time. I'm slowly getting back into a more normal routine and hope to get more RC hobby stuff recorded and uploaded as we head further into 2021. Stay safe, be good and go outside and play with RC trucks. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read this little note.

    One thing to watch out for. Since this method doesn't allow the cap to screw in tight to the shock body you have to periodically check to make sure the cap isn't backing out from the vibrations. Had one come loose after about six hours of run time and let the oil run free. 😂 Just check to make sure they are snug every now and then.

    Run them upside down ... not only does it put the heavier end of the shock lower to the ground but it also stops leaking almost entirely. Add some shock boots for a more scale look.

    Hey ! Great to hear ya again. Looking good on the 'o' ring fitment. I usually put a small film on the 'o' rings or use vaseline as I work em into place. Will you at some point be adding links to the supply markets ? Thanks again TJ

      There was a good film of silicone shock oil on both the cap and body so I didn't think that I needed to add any. It is a good suggestion though and I should have thought to mention it. The O-ring kit that I got did come with a small tube of silicone grease just for that purpose. There should be a link in the description box below the video to the site where I found the O-ring kit that I used. 👍

      It's good to be heard. I've been wanting to get some RC content put together for quite a while, this last year has been very distracting to say the least. I'm glad to have found some time for the ol RC hobby again.

    Can you measure the new oring? OD and thickness please.

    • @TJsRC
      @TJsRC  3 года назад

      10mm OD, 6.5mm ID and a little less than 2mm thick. Other sizes that are close to the original but thicker will work. This was just the closest size that would work out of the multi pack that I have. 👍

      @71bagarn 3 года назад +1

      @@TJsRC That's seems like a great way to trick those shocks into not leaking. So by the numbers it should be 1.75mm thick. Gonna try with 1.5 and 1.25 too to see if it's possible to find one that is tight, and still seats completely. Thanks for great video!

    What pivot balls are you useing in the plastic ball cup or did you just switch out shock ends to ones with metal pivot balls

    Flip them over and they leak a lot less

    • @TJsRC
      @TJsRC  3 года назад +1

      I did try running them that way for a while and I felt the benefit was negligible. Upside down they may leak less during the time the truck sits around on the shelf because gravity isn't helping to push oil down. However I believe when running the truck the pressure build up inside the shock from the valve movement will still push oil out if there is a weak seal.
