There is a huge difference between crawler and a scale rig. For crawlers droop set up. For scalers sprung set up.
I agree
Enjoyed the tech tips guys! This helps everyone get the most out of their rigs. Never be afraid to experiment with your rc!
Thanks bro. We have fun doing these videos. Experimenting is just something ya gotta do. Thanks for watching bro.
By far the most informative video I've seen. The presenters were obviously both prepared and skilled. I look forward to any they produce. Great work.
Awesome comment, really appreciated. We try to do what we can.
I run my trx 4 sport on the yellow springs with no preload 4.19 inch tyers with 9.7oz of weight in each wheel (tyer included in the weight) and stock shock oil and it climbs like a mountain got . I agree Having heavy oil as I found out my self that at some angles the spring won’t have the strength to open up sharply so yes heavy oil a must . CGO is insane as well I only tip over when I push it to ridiculous extremes . Great video 👍🏻and great advice .
Awesome comment. Thanks for the info on your personal experience, that is what it is all about.
Thanks this is a very vast subject I ve worked on for the past 5 months searching trying failing and do it all over but it was great fun. It goes deeper when one involves upper linkages geometry changes and rear axle rotation not to mention over drive and under drive . Long discussions 😉
Hahaha, yes the subject is very deep and complex for sure.
So many setups- I run 10wt and just a touch of it. full droop. Desert Lizards are amazing.
Sweet bro. Thanks for the info and watching.
How is you full droop set up w/ the lizards? I got 100mm yesterday they came already set with droop I think.
So you just ran the longest spring in the bottom and no spring on top correct?
When I was racing on road I ran fully extended with 80-100 wt.oil, off road racing about 1/4-1/3 droop with 30-50 wt.oil , a super light weight crawler with a lexan body about 1/4-1/3 droop with just enough oil (10-20wt.) to keep the shocks lubed , on my hard body crawlers I run about 3/4 droop and fill the shocks about 1/2 way with 10-30 wt. oil. On my TF2 I removed internal springs and 1 leaf and fill the shocks about 1/2 with 10-30 wt. oil.
Great comment. Great info. Thanks for that.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit I made a couple of mistakes on my comment , edited it.
Static sag is the proper way to set up suspension on any vehicle. From passenger cars, to motorcycles, to race trucks to RC cars.
Thanks for the input. Appreciate the comment. Colin was speaking from his experience.
Nice video lots for tips KILLER!! Info!! My trx4 sport I have tuned in now . But it did take my some playing with. After I changed my oil to 30w.. I like it now it's just a little tighter in the front shocks the rear shocks I have them where they don't spring up fast.. NC MOUNTAINS ❤.. 👍👍✔
Thanks. Appreciate the comment. Sounds like yours is tuned in now. Takes a little tweaking to get it right but once you do, its money in the bank. Lol
Great video. The format of you guys talking and having that back and forth was very dynamic.
I like lighter weight oil on my shocks just cause I like how more active the suspension reacts. I’m not a competitive or serious crawler though:)
Yeah... To me.. with serious crawlers, droops the only way to go. Great info guys 👌🏻👍🏻😎
Thanks. Appreciate the comment. Droop for me, well at least on the lifted sport.
You guys are both experts in my opinion.
Thanks dude
The heck with the haters,if that's what works for you then go for it,and if you can pass it on to others and help them, that's a good people thing, maybe there is someone out in the rc world that didn't know how to setup shocks👍👍💪💪✌✌😃😃👌👌🇺🇸🇺🇸
I totally agree James. It is all about paying it forward however you can. I don't worry about the haters, just had to add that in there for them. Haha
Bang on, great video, I have the gen 8, and it's awesome with droop on it👍
Thanks. Appreciate it. Nice to know the Gen8 does well with the droop set up
Great information! I am still learning and want to hear what everyone else is doing. So now my plan is to mess around with the shocks and see what is can do. My TRX4 kit is running Brushless, it’s a crawler/basher. It flips when it decelerates to quickly. I may be to firm or to high idk, but fuck it it’s a toy and I need to try something and you guys have given me info! Thanks.
Glad you got some useful info from the video. Sounds like a fun rc to mess with. Crawler/basher, that is cool. Thanks for watching.
Cool info. Wish there were courses around here to test myself.
Yeah, I hear ya, not enough courses
Why does everyone in the RC world have "droop" wrong? Droop, when referring to suspension, is when the suspension is fully extended. Everyone in RC seems to think droop is fully compressed which is backwards.
No idea my friend. Colin works at a hobby shop and I assume he knows what he is talking about. He is not an off roader and could have it wrong. Sorry about that. Just trying to help.
I work for a shock manufacturer, you are correct "droop" is the suspension extended, as if you lifted the vehicle from the frame and let the wheels hang. Every vehicle on the road has the vehicle's weight sitting on the springs, which compresses them slightly to put them in the center of their travel. If this was not the case, any rebound action of the suspension lifts the tires off the road. RC vehicles are so light this isnt as much of a problem as it would be for your real car or truck. Droop as these guys describe, really means your suspension is more compressed at static, thus less chance of a tire coming off the road and better ability to "droop" into a low spot on rocks or a trail. Hope this helps.
Appreciate you clearing that up. As I always say, I am not a professional. Haha thanks for the comment.
Awesome I’ve been wanting to know more about it, appreciate you sharing
My shaft is always externally sprung! LOL
Lol, your a funny guy and that is too much info. Hahaha
😳😣😔
best advice in the whole video, is its good to share, and test everything. loved the video!
Always good to help others, yepper. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Really appreciate the positive vibe.
Good video. I think you were wrong when you said heavy brass parts would effect what kind of shock and spring you want. Most brass parts are on the axle and/or portals, which are unsprung, which would mean the suspension has no effect on them.
Great job buddy good video great job Colin. you guys give a lot of great information. Very nice
Thanks brother. Glad you enjoyed it.
I always assumed droop referred to the down travel, basically the opposite of what droop actually means in the crawling world. thx for the vid, I am experimenting with a no-spring setup so the compressed shocks have zero force and the un-loaded shocks have "full droop" but apparently that would be considered "reverse-droop" because they are drooping due to gravity instead of being pushed down via spring. Reverse sociology is the way.
Nice informative video Ben. I run slight droop on mine.
Hey Shelby. Cool, yeah, I do the same.
Hi there 👋 I am late to the party, but i just start in this hobby with my first crawler. I have think aboutbto go for longer shock - in my case from 80 to 90 mm, with lighter spring for 80mm shock and 40 rated oil. I want long travel and lower stand. What you think about that, will it work?
Great video brother I'll be sending out your motor eventually
No rush man.
Great explanation of droop vs Standard... I like the Clearance but the Lcg can be a Great advantage in Crawling... Awesome Video..✌️😎👍 HFLPRCing
Yeah, lcg is where it is. Gravity, it is always a fight. Lol
Absolutely timeless information 😎🤯
Nice info.... comming from the 1to 1 world I run a 3/4 droop set up with super soft sprinds. The springs are used to set the ride height. Then I use 2,000 weight shock oil !!! Yes 2,000 the I adjusrt the shock angle to ge the performance I want.
Thanks. Colin only speaks about what he knows, usually. Haha glad to hear you do comparably the same, and in 1 to 1. Thanks for the comment.
That Ben, was a really good video! Learned a lot and very well explained.
Thanks. Colin really knows his stuff.
Perfect explanation! Thank you so much! 🙏😇
Glad the video helped you out. That is always the best comment to hear. Thanks for commenting.
Ive tested 100mm 2 external spring shocks with 20c oil and its just awesome. I did a very big and long event track and had a lot of advantage of the soft shocks. I even have a lot of weight on top like a spare tire and scale bits it 5kg I can even drive over a tire full speed and the shocks absorbs it fully. Have a look at my channel for the shock test.
Interesting info, Thanks Guys! Cheers!
Thanks for watching
Great informative video Ben! Keep up the great work!
Thanks, appreciate the great comment.
Old, but still awesome 🙂 Thank you guys. I have scx10 3 Gladiator which I would like to make a crawler...so a scalable crawler. I was think of a drop setup, but not fully using 100 mm Desert Lizards (as the springs are inside). I was thinking getting a little bigger damper 100 mm instead of stock 90 mm. But as I will do a drop setup, it should set similar to stock dampers, but have more travel when needed.
I'm still new to the crawler world, so please correct me or give me some feedback. How does it sound? Should I go 110 mm or in a completely different path? 🙂
Interesting idea you have. I think that would work nicely. Go for it! Thanks for watching the video.
Great video guys not many videos that explain this. Could you be more definitive on the best all around shock setup for Maybe trx4 something popular like the
Thanks for the comment. It really comes down to how you use your rig and how you like it to perform. The stock TRX shocks are a great start, they perform well and are great quality. I would recommend buying a couple different shocks weight oils and just do some experimenting and see what you like. the lighter your rig is the lighter shock fluid you want, well that is my preference. Don't be afraid to come up with your own style on this, as everyone seems to have a different opinion because we all have our own unique driving style.
audio is so bad i am unable to hear what is being said unless i turn volume up full .
Sorry about that. Not sure why it is like that. The audio was fine when it was uploaded. My apologies.

Great video guys!
Thanks. We appreciate the comment. 👍
U forgot to tell the viewer the shafts needs to be “fully lubed” lol good video buddy
Thanks bro. Your funny.
Awesome info ,,brother,,Good Job Ben
Thanks brother. Always appreciate your comment.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit 👍🤙
Droop is when you pick up your rig or jump it and the shocks sit down full deflection. Sag would be upon weight sitting on the shocks
Great opinion. Glad you shared it. I don't agree with your explanation but that for watching. Need more explanation if you plan on convincing me. Make sure you do your research cause we did. Might want to look it up again. Thanks for watching.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit Sorry man. I guess I'm thinking of droop in the way of the rear end on the UDR hanging in the air
@@MT-THNDR207 right on bro. No worries. Sorry didn't mean to come off defensive there.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit it's ok everybody can get a little passive aggressive sometimes
Nice info guys. 👍😃👍
Thanks Wayne. Appreciate that
If you had two of the same trucks, same ride height, one has shorter normal springs and one has longer springs that had this mod and are now the same length as the normal springs, would there be an advantage to having this mod?
Love the name of your Chanel!………….
Thanks. Funny story, Colin, the guh in the video actually helped to come up with the name. Kinda crazy how outta all the videos to comment on, you pick the video with him in it. Haha kinda neat. Thanks for the comment.
More droop the better, the only negative is bottoming out, I hate fully unsprung shocks that barely move, may as well just have a toy grade with heavy springs and friction shocks.
Go droop, or go with a Limit strap. Better then droop in my opinion:)
Great video btw
Great breakdown of droop.
Appreciate the comment
I run full droop. No shocks no oil. Just stick Trx4 shock body. Never been more happy with a shock lol Nd it didn’t cost me 60$
Where are you guys located??? You seem really familiar!!!
Chantilly, virginia.
@@BuyitBreakitFixit I knew it. I think I ran into you all at the hobby shop. I used to live in fairfax. Great channel! Keep up the good work!
Very informative.🤘🏻😎
U like all this talk about shafts LOL
@@STEVOD313 : Not really. LOL I'm more about how much input the shafts can do.
Thanks brother
Thanks for the info 💪💪🔥🔥
Glad it helped someone out. Thanks for the comment.👍👊

Thanks Fern.
Great vid bro ive allways run droop only way to run 🤙🤙👊
Thanks brother, I do like the droop setup. Thanks for watching.
The audio sucks on this
No it's you.
Works fine for me
I'm a 60/40 man
You know what they say about opinions ,
Ohh yeah, they are like fruit loops and keep rolling round and round? Ohh wait that isn't it. Haha yeah Joe, Colin wanted to do this video to share his fruit loop, oops, I mean opinion. 😅 thanks for the comment.
Any thought on a good shock for a gen 7 sport its gonna be a hard core rock crawler ,lots of big rocks in southern Wv.
@@joejago5231 you might not want to hear this but the stock shocks from a traxxas trx4 are very good shock. a lot of people use them. if you are not liking the trx4 shocks, maybe some Proline comp shocks would handle those WVa rocks. I am in Va not too far from ya. Let me know what you decide to go with, kinda interested in what you decide.
really where in virginia also do you guys sell on amazon
And good servos i need 2 i put 4 wheel steer on it
Droop is like training wheels
That is your opinion. Some like it some don't. I don't run droop on my rigs. Video is just trying to help those that are curious about it.
@volts Nah you are uninformed
Rubber bands
But did you Droop broh
