I use a micro torch. It's great for getting the heat into tight places and keeping it away from places you don't want it. Also a chainsaw sharpening stone for use in a dremel is great for shaping the ends of the tubes for a no gap fit. In the end your joints will be stronger and look better than ones with large gaps filled in with silver solder which itself is expensive especially when you have to use twice as much to fill gaps in your joints.

Be cautious using torch when your fabrication requires you to braze while the cage is mounted on the frame. I made a exo cage for my hard body Raptor. It's over on my other channel called RC Crawler Workbench.
i use a little Proxxon MFB (mikroflambrenner), silversolder and very thin stainless steel tubes with 0.3mm wall thickness. the tubes are superfast hot don't really conduct heat and other joints won't "open". super light (1m of 5mm tube weights 36g) but expensive (12€/m) downside: you need to notch the tubes very precise.
To figure out what your bends need to be use plumbing solder it has a large diameter & it bends easily & you can reuse it over & over for long tubes the shorter pieces not so much. This is especially helpful for interior cages. If you want to do a complete mockup you can use C A (super glue) to glue it together to see if you like it or not. I have a small oxygen propane torch I bought @ Lowes & I used the Lincoln Electric brazing rods. I am going to try the borax & brass wire technique like someone else mentioned in the comments next.

Just at the right time! Thank you for this video! Just last night I tried to build a little interior roll cage with brass tube and silver solder - and overall it actually turned out decent. However, I struggled the most with the correct measurements. I have the same tube bender like you showed in the video and just don't understand, how to align it right ... do you mark the rods in the middle of the bend or where the furthest point is going to be? Btw: dog people are the best!

The hardest part about brazing imo is not melting plastic parts in the process….unless you have a jig made to duplicate a project ya pretty much have to weld on the chassis…I noticed when you were brazing , it looked like the plastic on the sliders was starting to bubble! 😢
I'm sure I'll get some hate but just to clarify that's soldering, that's why you're using stasilv silver solder. Brazing is done at higher temps, typically at red hot temps and with a different filter alloy. Just so you know.

I designed it adobe illustrator and printed out all the pieces and used that as a template. helped a little bit. anyhow. Fun to make stuff. Have you ever brazed steel rod not tube?
You should try some smaller brazing rod with the flux already in it, it leaves a gold finish.
I tend to mark at the end of the curve so I know where to start it when I need to replicate a piece.
We all know that dog did all the work. :-)
Did I see a plastic body post start to bubble in the background. ;-)
Love the Dog...he looked to be going "I don't look like that. Hahaha
Been wanting to try brazing for awhile. May get some tubing n give it a try. Also wanna try styrene as well
Very nice job!
Brilliant video, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience 👍
One way you could mount the winch: mount the servo in the bed of the truck, run the wire up to the front bumper. Possibly you could 3D print a tool box to go the servo?
Love the subtle Toyota builds in the background, especially the chopped 80. Any leads on a 1/10th scale 80 series land cruiser body that fits a TRX4??
That one, before I chopped it up will fit, provided you have a 12.3” wheelbase.
Scale Builder's Guild not sure if I’m missing a link, but do you mind re-linking?
Need to find a body to match my full-size crawler! Thanks man!
rockstate45 I didn’t post one, you’ll have to search eBay. I found it under “Lc80 rc body”
Scale Builder's Guild no worries! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for one. I’m hard pressed to buy a hard body since i bash my TRX4 pretty hard. If you ever want to sell it...LMK. Great work on it!

I made my roof rack on my gen8 using solid rod and mig welding
Remember, you can’t start a fire without a spark 😉
The hardest part about brazing imo is not melting plastic parts in the process….unless you have a jig made to duplicate a project ya pretty much have to weld on the chassis…I noticed when you were brazing , it looked like the plastic on the sliders was starting to bubble! 😢
I'm sure I'll get some hate but just to clarify that's soldering, that's why you're using stasilv silver solder. Brazing is done at higher temps, typically at red hot temps and with a different filter alloy. Just so you know.
I have decided to learn how to solder or braze. Have bought what's necessary, including a wide range of metal mix, just to be sure. Can you give me a good video on how to braze?
Thx in advance
