The opportunity to watch two legitimately passionate rc enthusiasts who happen to be fantastic artists, makers and modelers is really one of the most entertaining things on RUclips.
I watched Josh's video first and really have to agree with him; your truck turned out really well. Both of you, to the point where I'd be hard pressed to say "this is better" for either of you. The new color really pops, and the decal job really just sends it over the top.
This was probably the funnest build series I’ve seen you guys do yet and I’ve been watching since the beginning. Such a unique idea. Both trucks look great. Your guys skills are top of the mark. Well done.
Wow! Thanks for the compliments... it was a lot of fun. Although, I think it was more fun for me, because I got to go for brunch, dinner, and had almost a full nights sleep. Josh... not so much
it’s great build, for your next build i think it’d be great if you showed us the process of the whole trimming and installment of all the goodies like the honcho cage and so on 🤙🏾
I think we need 2 more of you guys. Another artistic scale builder and another fabricator to do a monthly mayhem (X4) to see more interpretations of a challenge. Maybe have Hemistorm and/or west desert wheeler get in on it too?
That’s a pretty cool idea! I think the only challenge would be that Chris from Hemistorm is in Norway, so there might be some time difference issues if we were to do livestreams.
Josh’s build is obviously very awesome, but I think you had the better build solely on the fact that you built a “parts bin truck. “It’s achievable by most and that’s the gold. I’m sure it’ll be appreciated by axial themselves too. Good job , Matt. 👏.
Did you say Gold? 😂 Thanks for watching and for the compliments. It was a lot of fun to build and try to be creative with things I already had in my stash.
OK.... blown away with what you guys did! Did not comment until I'd watched Josh's video. I really liked how different you guys went in styles of how you changed these.
Both killer builds and you've inspired me to work on my build tonight. I remember the Tan Honcho was the first crawler that ever caught my eye and this is a cool tribute to that one.
OMG that was awesome. Cleverly done in my opinion. Cool homage to the Trail Honcho. I can’t wait to do my own build on the Base Camp when it reaches our shores. Great mayhem build you two. Get some rest this coming weekend. 👍🏼👍🏼🍻
@@scalebuildersguild super liked it. In fact I was attempting to get a Honcho back into my stable but my LHS here in Manila won’t order one for me…saying its phased out. Anyway a friend of mine has a very pristine 10-2 kept in storage for years…I acquired it and basically ended up with the 2017 CRC Jeep.
I'm going to be going through this same deal! Picking up my first 1/10 crawler this afternoon!!! I've already ordered parts yesterday! As for the winner, we as the viewers are the real winners! Thanks for the knowledge and ideas!
@Scale Builder's Guild thank you I will....I'm COMPLETELY blaming you and Josh btw! 😊 At first I just liked watching the live streams but since I got an SCX24, I'm diving in full steam lol!
Excellent transformation Matt! Really like the creativity and the use of parts bin stuff to create a uniquely personal truck! Appreciate the detailed video and the thought process behind your build. Looking forward to Livestream Wednesday night to hear the feedback from the peanut gallery!!! Well done and thanks again!
Love the 24 mayhem!A nice way to push yourself to finish one project...not like me when before finishing one,i start another, and another... Awesome transformation on the BaseCamp Matt!
You guys killed it . Please, please please do more of these. This was an isane learning experience for me ..I would like to see you guys do something with the IFS gate keeper ( witch is your fault , I saw your other one...👍)or a yeti score . Scale builds and race trucks could be a sick combo. You boys could even have a race comp at the end
You guys knocked it out of the park. Looking forward to tonight's livestream and all the banter. You guys continue to inspire me for my own builds! Thanks for all you do.
The Camo adds a nice subtle touch. You almost don’t see the stripe along the bed but overall a very nice tribute and def enough of a change that it doesn’t make the base camp look as “cheap” as the initial public response. great job by both of you
That looks friggin sweet. It's amazing how the cage and bumper really fit the truck! The color change really compliments the style you went for. Well done!!
That is a pretty impressive job done in 24 hours, the Honcho cage fitting is a pleasant surprise. Good to see that the Honcho is still alive!! Great job on the build, I think this is a great build!
I've been considering this truck. I had a Wraith when it was new but always felt that trail trucks appealed to me more. Cost has been a huge limiting factor for me but I think the base camp can be obtained. Seeing what you have done cosmetically removed my fear of having an ugly truck.
You killed it in the 24hr! I'm playing catch-up, but it's crazy to see the transformation. The Gold color was an excellent choice, and the slimline rack helps the cab mesh well with the Honcho back-half cage. Bravo!
I believe dark green was the first one. I had it back in 2010. Really like your approach to the build! I actually love the homage to the original honcho! I actually have lots of the light buckets you're missing. Pm if you want a few bro! Now to watch Josh's build!
Great build! Love the creative way to reuse parts from other builds. I’d like to see if a Bomber interior fits in my old Honcho. Man this hobby is so fun and addictive. Cheers
That looks awesome dude. I have a buddy that is cleaning out his 25yr collection of RC parts, chassis's, and bodies. I have no clue what he is giving to me(I hope it's not all the belt driven, nitro, or basher shit that got me out of RC) but I look forward to building some cool rigs out of the bins he gives me.
I liked your truck and how it turned out. I like the homage to the honcho and that you kept the bedsides. It’s got a great overall look. Great color choice on the paint as well!
You took a fugly duckling and turned into a respectable swan, 2 thumbs up for a job well done!!! kind of funny Josh went prerunner and you went prerunner adjacent lol. Josh wants to do more of these and you eluded to not wanting to, but I hope you do more, it shows what is possible with imagination and the wallet doesn't have to be emptied .
You absolutely must do more of these, not to sound demanding..I think it was a great idea that was super fun to both anticipate and watch. Great job btw’s.
Wow Matt, that looks great! I think Axial needs you for their next rig design! After seeing this it looks like Axial is gonna be selling a ton of these Honch cages! This is how this new Base Camp should have looked! Great job!!!
Awesome build you both knocked it out of the park, both turned out really good. Couldn’t believe what you guys done in 24 hours actually, but hats off to both of you on your builds.
Legit switched off Josh's video because I thought he was gonna spoil your build before I watched the process... exemplary work Matt. You should feel really chuffed with your effort
Thank you! It was one of my ex-colleagues birthday and she came in from out of town. We all hadn’t hung out since before the pandemic, so it was well worth it.
Wow you guys did an amazing job. I watched Josh's video first and was amazed at how much fab work he did. Great idea with the Honcho bed and the roof rack tied in to it very nice. I really like your color choice. Both trucks turned out well. I hope you guys continue to do 24hr builds. Can't wait till tonight's show to you guys talk more about the builds. I hope you have a great day Matt.
Great fun my dude! Surprised how much you could do with spares you already had in stock. But I guess in your situation, you'll have a reasonable amount of bits and pieces hangin around. A shame you couldn't gloss out the windows somehow. Is it even possible to strip paint and have clear plastic after? And I certainly wouldn't have thought of gold for the body colour! But it looked great in the end! Interestingly I recently acquired an early SCX10, without the II or III ! I'm already in the process with the order of a Jeep Gladiator shell. But I'm taking it out for it's first drive today to the same spot where I tested out an RC4WD Land Rover, also pre the II spec setup. Looking at upgrading both somewhat, after the drive out though! 😁
Congratulations matt you definitely pulled it off and the truck looks 100× better than before. It's funny both of you did the same concept but different approaches to them.
MAN. I had to watch in 3 parts today hahaha. Great work man. Soon as it had clear windows and better rims and tires, I liked it. Haha. I like how you braught the honcho back in many ways. Very cool build. Now time to see Josh and what he did. Love the paint and decals.
I also watched joshes video first. Love them both. Two totally different takes. If I had to vote. Would have to go with yours. Much more design and aesthetically pleasing. Absolutely love it. Another f amazing build.
I think you both won. I sort of had an idea what each if you would end up with . Esthetics vs fabrication. Now lets see both of you do the next one in 23 hours.
I went for brunch, dinner, had a decent nights sleep and walked the dog a bunch of times... so technically it wasn't 24 hours for me... Josh, however? 😂 Thanks for watching.
Fairplay Matt you done an amazing job with this especially within the timescale you had to work with love the colour choice with those decals, now to see what Josh has hacked up ha
Great results Matt. (Also, maybe your missing light buckets got vacuumed up by your cleaner. Haha! Just kidding. I’m like you. I need to tidy up my bench regularly.)
I make one custom mount and feel all proud and accomplished. Then I watch you and Josh and then I just want to throw my build in the trash and go to bed. Lol
Looks awesome, Matt. I love watching you and Josh's approaches. You definitely had a 'safer' approach, not sure I'd do machine work while sleep-deprived, and you had a nice brunch😂
I'm not usually a big fan of gold, but this looks awesome and the decals really complete the look (tied the room together?). That camo reminds me of the Swedish pattern with all the angles and geometry. I'll be curious to see if adding the sliders and different bumpers impact performance with the different clearances. I bet the wheels&tires will be a significant improvement. At the end of the day, this looks cool, and we'll want to drive something more if it looks cool 👍👍
Thanks for the content Matt. Been "busy" but glad to be back. Catching up on your content. You're still more entertaining than Josh! lol... Also excellent choice of Beer!
A true pleasure to get to do this along side you and be humbled by my shortcomings!
Harley Sucks (and Josh smells) 😂
@@scalebuildersguild Now be nice! Great job to both of you. Can not decide which I like better. May have to do one myself.

A bit late to the vid but is there a direct link to the other build? Thanks
I liked how the Base Camp had some Honcho DNA. With the combined styling cues from the original, the Gen 2 honcho tribute lives on. Cool build!

I think mine looks better, but that's just my humble opinion 😂. Thanks for watching, it was a lot of fun!
I liked how Matt gently suggested that Josh take another 24 hours to work on the appearance, lol.
