Due respect to David for being such an entertaining and brilliant teacher. But there is another way of interpreting the plural of majesty. It need not mean that plural is greater than singular. The plural of majesty could, rather, be a way of distancing royalty from others. To speak in the first person is to make oneself directly present to others. But if the royal says "we" instead of "I", there are two results: 1) the royal's personality is in a sense placed at a remove, behind the anonymous "we." The I of the royal is thus in a sense kept in a kind of hidden holy of holies, as it were concealed behind the "we." It is as though some sacred pearl were being kept in its own domain quite apart from the vulgar mass who cannot but defile the sacred. "We" is no one in particular, and thus comes like a sort of snooty wall between the royal and the vulgar subjects. This interpretation of the plural of majesty seems to me more likely than the one offered by David in this case.

Allah's amazing strategy to ensure everybody keeps away from committing shirk ... keep referring to himself as 'we' and 'us' ... refer to himself as the 'best of creators' - all those other creators coming in 2nd and 3rd etc ... let Jesus create a living being in exactly the same way that he creates a living being ... commands his followers to obey whatever he and his messenger together decides is correct ... it is like giving someone something to eat, telling them to eat it and then get angry when they actually eat it ... but then Islam only identifies as a monotheistic religion just as Allah only identifies as God ..
The only reasonable explanation for the numb belief of Muslims is demons. In and on and around Muslims. Muslims get this dullness of thought when it comes to actually examining Islam. Jesus, please hold their demons at bay to give them time to see you, to see truth. As much as we argue with them we know you love them. And we do pray they will come to know you and we can call them brothers. And please forgive the very Muslims that criticize me and blaspheme you because of this prayer.
Does anyone know what earliest reference for this “royal we” nonsense in history? It feels like Islam simply redacts back the concept seen in English Royal history as a cover up as I can’t find any evidence of this in any of the Semitic languages of the ANE? Anyone know which Islamic scholar was the first to denote this literary technique as an effort to self-aggrandise?
Okay so I’m abt to watch this and I have never done research into the topic like I have others but I have always asked myself and others why he would refer to himself as we if it didn’t point to the trinity
We have to understand that Arabic is a very RICH language. What you ready in the Quran is not what it ACTUALLY means. Do not be surprised if you send your son to the market to buy tomatoes. He might come back with potatoes or Toyota. Arabic is so rich that when Allah and his angels pray for Mohammed, it means blessing and blessing mean prayer.
The God of the Bible is plural, the Allah of the Quran can only identify as plural. If being plural (Trinity) is so wrong, why does Muhammad, I mean Allah, use it on himself??? "Say not THREE"...Say not WE??? Oi?
And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, "Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you." They will say, "Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers." Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded." So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.
I think this is one of David's weaker arguments. The "royal we" is quite common knowledge in England, when Queen Vic allegedly said "We are not amused" she was clearly wasn't talking about a "compound" monarchy. This argument would be made better if David looked at whether or not the royal we was actually used in 6th century Arabic.

Did any Arabic rulers refer to themselves in this way at the time the quran was recited?
The answer is: "no, not at all"
No. Royal "we" is a European invention.
Thank you 🙏

@@rKaraa Islam is cancer.
Arabic scholars state that the plural of majesty was not a grammatical form in 7th century arabic.
Allah, the eternal "God" referring to himself using a man-made term from the 4th century....Nice explanation Muslims

No greater plural of majesty than King of kings 🎉
I think Allah should have kept their first name-Legion.
It feels Most All-Powerful,Most All-Merciful.
Bro I am telling you the truth I also was thinking from so long and researching on the same what you pointed on from Quran
I really don't understand why, if Allah is perfect and eternal, he would need to abrogate any of his "perfect" book.
I was reading the Critical Quran by Robert Spencer and I noticed this too, even highlighted it because I thought it was interesting

Triune is more majestic than Tawheed
This is very good, David. 👍

Amazing video, Dr. Wood! Thank you for this knowledge and these sources! ❤🙏✝️ Our God be with you All!
I think their apologetic answer for Allah's pronouns is because Allah has many names.
This will be a good T-shirt title:
"Wanna be Plural god"
Does anyone know what earliest reference for this “royal we” nonsense in history? It feels like Islam simply redacts back the concept seen in English Royal history as a cover up as I can’t find any evidence of this in any of the Semitic languages of the ANE? Anyone know which Islamic scholar was the first to denote this literary technique as an effort to self-aggrandise?
Every time a Muslim brings up Tawheed, the Gene Wilder (willy wonka) meme comes to mind.
We = Muhammad, "Gibril" and Allah!
The Unholy Trinity of Islam!
David Wood you are the best christian apologist ever. We love you so much.
Allah needs to stay off the We-eeeeeeeeduhh *Stephen A Smith voice* 😂😂😂😂😂😂
i can't believe you really dropped it.
Wow…we created…thank you for bringing this to light
Okay so I’m abt to watch this and I have never done research into the topic like I have others but I have always asked myself and others why he would refer to himself as we if it didn’t point to the trinity
He’s perfectly clear book, that confuses everyone who reads it..😂
Question is why
Oi?
I have never clicked on a video this fast.

A muslim told me plural pronouns means royal dynasty 😂 if so, then how can you have royalty before creation 🤔
I don't think so. This is a way of talking when a supreme power talks. Some kings used to talk like that. Also it might mean angels too.
There is MUCH BIGGER problem, in some verses he says "HE created ...." , "HE did ba ba bla ...", who is HE ?
And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, "Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you." They will say, "Indeed, Allah has forbidden them both to the disbelievers."
Who took their religion as distraction and amusement and whom the worldly life deluded." So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and for having rejected Our verses.
“God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” Exodus 3:14
I think this is one of David's weaker arguments. The "royal we" is quite common knowledge in England, when Queen Vic allegedly said "We are not amused" she was clearly wasn't talking about a "compound" monarchy. This argument would be made better if David looked at whether or not the royal we was actually used in 6th century Arabic.
