The radio carbon dating done in the seventies was defective. The standard was to be seven samples from seven different areas of the cloth. They took three samples from the same area which turned out to be the same spot where a middle age patch was done after a fire. That’s why the dating was from the Middle Ages. @@holandreas the image was caused by a burst of electromagnetic radiation otherwise known as a stroboscopic photography. This is caused by subtle movements while an image is being taken. Blood on the Sudarium of Oviedo and the Shroud are of the same blood type. Also, all crucifixion paintings from the Middle Ages depicting the nail wounds show them in the palms of the hands (an anatomical impossibility for a crucifixion because the weight of the body in the cross would have pulled through the soft tissue between the phalanges). However, the shroud correctly and uniquely show the wounds through the wrists which would have supported the body. A middle age shroud forgery would have depicted the wounds in the palms. Some claim that only DaVinci could have created a shroud with this type of image. However, his crucifixion sketch clearly shows the nails through the palms. If Michelangelo did it, all of his crucifixion images show wounds in the palm. Clearly, none of the extant Masters of that era created the shroud image. Also, one of the newest dating methods called wide-angle x-ray scattering (does not require the destruction of the fibers like carbon dating determined the age of the shroud to be between 500 BC and AD 500, within the range of years of Jesus’ life. There are so many evidences from various fields of study, etc. that when put together, more than prove the authenticity of the shroud as the burial cloth of my Savior.
1. Is the radiation image that is on the shroud also on the Sundarium of Oviedo? If not, why? Because you would think if they were both on the same man, the radiation image would be printed on it too. 2. The commonly repeated and believed claim that you can't peirce someone in the palms without the nails ripping out is false. There's actually a way in which you can peirce the palms, which involves the nail going in near the bottom of the palm at the crease of the thumb muscle, and angling it towards the back of the wrist. There's a video out there somewhere of a doctor demonstrating it. He also shows a photo of a deceased victim that had a knife embedded in her hand in that manner, which results in causing the thumb to fold under the palm like the image on the shroud.
The "blood" on the shroud is not actually blood at all. The wrist wound is a exit wound which is where a nail driven into the base of the palm would come out. And according to Donald and Joan Janney (of the STURP team) medieval crucifixes exist which show the nails penetrating the wrists rather than the palms of the hands.
One very important fact about the carbon dating is that, yes 3 labs tested the sample. But all 3 labs tested the same sample and not 3 different pieces of different samples. So it makes it a little bit more unreliable
The fact they tested only one area and they chose to test a corner of the cloth; where they should’ve known it was handled there in the medieval period is mind boggling. Definitely not a proud moment, a lot of time and resources wasted and we still have idiots today using the results from it to back up their claims that it is a forgery 🤦♂️
The scientists took the samples they were allowed to take. Any scientist would have taken samples from all parts of the shroud if they had the opportunity. But the authorities weren't prepared to allow that.
It's 100% unreliable. They tested from the edge of the shroud where the shroud was mended many years after Christ from when it had survived an actual fire. Their tests are invalid not because carbon dating doesn't work, not because they didn't do the procedure right. No. Their tests are 100% moot, invalid because they tested the wrong fabric. They never tested the original portions of the fabric. It's not even a little bit more unreliable. It's purely unreliable. It's kind of like having person A write an entire book except for the last chapter or two. They didn't finish their book because they died before they could complete it. Then someone who was close to them or knew them fairly well went and did their best to finish off the book by writing the last couple of chapters trying to mimic what they think the original author might have written. Then several hundred years later people are reading the book, and they end up critiquing or judging the entire book solely on the last two chapters alone which were not written by the original author. That's a poor judgement that has no merit. The same with the carbon dating tests from a piece of fabric that was later added to the original to fix or repair it and or to restore, preserve it. That's like testing Billy Bob for hepatitis and stabbing Jane Ho to draw the blood. Yeah, you tested the wrong damn thing, so your results of the test mean absolutely nothing. Yet at one point there were some who wanted to throw that around as if it was 100% fact to debunk the claims of it being the actual shroud. And once again, those claims from those carbon dating tests have already been resolved. Sure, the fabric they tested might have been from around the 12th - 14th century, but that was the added fabric. Where's their test result from a piece of the fabric that had actual bloodstains on it or from a small portion of where the image of the body was Personally, I do not require any kind of empirical physical evidence or proof. I know with 100% confidence that it is the burial shroud of Christ. I have no actual evidence or proof, I just know. It's not even a matter of belief. I just know, I just know it to be true. When people start to listen to their hearts instead of their noggins, they might be able to better understand and to know the truth. That's what my heart is telling me. This is why I just know it. Yet people are free to believe in what they want.

Think about it the Shroud has always been in the possession of the Church and still is today, if that test was faulty why havent they just done another? Because they did and it corroborated the 1988 results but why would they not tell us this? because people buy tickets to see the Shroud of Turin and it's this amazing gotcha artifact to refute skeptics so the church would lose money and their best archeological evidence for Jesus resurrection.
Yup, the carbon dating tests from the 80s is 100% moot and irrelevant. It's not because carbon dating is invalid or inaccurate nor is it because they performed the procedure incorrectly. Nope. Their test results are invalid and moot, because they failed to test the right piece of fabric. They tested the wrong thing! I've known about this since the late 90s early 2000s before they even confirmed that it was the fabric from the mended portion. The shroud was in a fire and those who had it in their possession went and had a seamster or seamstress repair it. I speculate that this was the case before they even came out with any statements on this. I don't need any scientific proof to know that it is the shroud of Christ. I had no idea who Jesus was or his significance, but sensed his godliness was otherworldly, and way beyond other Biblical characters. It shook me to the core. I still remember that shock.
The New Testament says that Jesus was covered in linen wrappings, not a single shroud. John 20:4-7 4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first. 5 And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. Christians trying to prove that the shroud of Turin is authentic are essentially going against the Bible without realizing, and that's most likely because those Christians haven't even read tbe Bible.
@ianmartinesq it's kind of a preponderance of evidence thing. It's the same way I look at any diagnosis that I make. Sometimes things arent fully clean when all tests come back so you have to go where the whole of the evidence leads, whuch is what i am doing with this
If anyone hasn't watched it, I highly recommend Metatron's video about the Shroud of Turin. He gives a fantastic and unbiased in-depth analysis on the shroud, without coming to a conclusion either way. Regarding the carbon-dating, the "debunking" is not debunking of the carbon dating itself, but the methodology. Basically, the shroud had some damage over the years, and in the Middle Ages they carefully repaired some of the damage. When carbon dating, you have to destroy what you are dating, so the researchers were careful to take minimal amounts to minimize the damage. Most obvious place is the edge, where the repairs were. Basically, in trying to minimize damage to the shroud in their research, they inadvertently dated the repaired areas, not the original areas. So the dating is most likely accurate regarding those specific areas, but not for the Shroud as a whole.
I watched Metatrons video a while back, and yeah I fully agree. I have come to the same conclusion that researchers accidentally dated the wrong piece(s), even though it was accurate, it wasn't the whole shroud

As an Eastern Orthodox, our understanding is that the shroud was under Orthodox control until the sack of Constantinople during the fourth crusade in 1204 I believe. The crusaders went on to try to reclaim Jerusalem and brought the shroud back to Western Europe around 1250 or so, when a bunch of repairs were done to it by some Catholic nuns. What do you think about the French Weave argument? That is, the guys who collected the sample for the carbon dating cut off a small piece of cloth from near the edge. However, over the centuries, the cloth had suffered some damage. In the Middle Ages, there was a somewhat painstaking process of weaving new threads into holes and tears, so carefully and precisely that you'd never notice that it was not part of the original cloth. This method was called the French Weave. So one possibility is that the sample cut from the edge for the carbon dating was, indeed, from the Middle Ages, but the rest was from the time of Christ. If disproving it was as simple as citing 2 lines of Scripture, that would have been done decades ago and it wouldn’t be the most studied artifact in history.
I think it needs to be asked, if the shroud is really Jesus' will that be proof for people to come to Jesus? I don't think it will be for 'skeptics'. A wicked generation asks for miracles and then ignores them as evidence for what they wanted to see.
This debacle is Matthew 16:4 more or less: ”An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.” The sign of Jonah IS the Lords crucifiction, burial and resurrection. The same objections will be risen even after this but its also why i think the shroud is authentic. Its a very Jesus-like thing to remember us with.
It is evidence of sufferance by the man in the shroud. If it is what it suggest, it is no more than that. The suffering Christ went thru was extreme. It makes sense that he'd want to leave behind some evidence of that. But it is in the nature of existence that we have uncertainty and the shroud does not eliminate uncertainty - because uncertainty gives us our free will. I imagine that if God were to really show himself to you, then one's self, one's ego, might disappear (in the context of our creation). So Jesus was going to have to go through some very heavy lifting (i.e. sufferance, i.e. his passion) and he wanted to leave behind definite evidence of that, without eliminating uncertainty to allow us our free will.
A real skeptic might be persuaded that something inexplicable and supernatural happened with the shroud, and it might open them to consider that the Biblical narrative might contain truth, but they could still remain skeptical of the Bible. Normal people who are rather apathetic towards religion might become more open towards Christianity thanks to the shroud. An ideologically antireligious skeptic would always prefer a natural explanation and they would rather dismiss all supernatural explanations and remain agnostic about the origins of the shroud.
@@Moshugaani I think the same when answering my own question. Proofs like the shroud confirm the biases of some believers and are interesting facts for others. For the skeptical unbeliever I hope the shroud works to inspire them to look deeper into the things of the Bible, of Jesus, of the resurrection. I often run into the fervent anti-religion crowd; they don't want to believe anything, just mock the believer.
Man I have a scientific degree and I always had the same problem with the carbon radiation, it's reliable and it says what it says so the shroud looks like a forgery despite the other evidence that seems to say the opposite. Yet nowadays that carbon radiation test is completely disproven not because it's wrong in itself but because they didn't analyze an actual sample of the shroud which is made of linen but a sample of cotton from a medieval repair of the shroud. The sample was cotton while the shroud is linen, there's no more space for the carbon radiation evidence, it's completely disproven
The Sudarium of Oviedo has a definitive history starting at around the 6th century, yet the carbon rating on it got the date wrong by at least 300 years forward.
Yes the only conclusion is the carbon dating in both cases is accurate, but the first one dated the repair not the original shroud. If only they had dated the actual shroud the first time we'd be looking at two mutually confirming pieces of evidence. Logically, this being what happened we should discard the medieval era dating. But people being people prefer to cling to feelings not follow logic.
In 1389, the image was denounced as a fraud by Bishop Pierre D'Arcis in a letter to the Avignon Antipope Clement VII, mentioning that the image had previously been denounced by his predecessor Henri de Poitiers, who had been concerned that no such image was mentioned in scripture. Bishop D'Arcis continued, "Eventually, after diligent inquiry and examination, he discovered how the said cloth had been cunningly painted, the truth being attested by the artist who had painted it, to wit, that it was a work of human skill and not miraculously wrought or bestowed."
Jesus brought me out of Hinduism. One of my grandmother was also a Hindu and someone put a curse on her which made her legs rot. She cried out to her idols but they couldn’t heal her. She went to witch doctors but they couldn’t heal her. She tried many medicines and home remedies to try to cure the rot but nothing helped. It was until one of her nephews who is a Christian took her to his church and they laid hands on her and pray for her that’s when Jesus healed her and she saw the miracle and gave her life to Christ! She’s still alive and well today, age 83 and healthy. My mom’s mother had 3 dreams of Jesus throughout her life and finally decided to give her life to Christ but she was still living in the old life and died last year. Many more of my relatives were Hindus and when they got sick they called on the name of Jesus for healing and He answered them and they gave their lives to Christ. Now I’m waiting for God to change my parents and bring them to Him. They are Hindus too. Thank you for reading this. May Jesus bless you and keep you until His return.
I finally understood the “3D image” aspect from how Dr. Habermas explained it. That plus the finger bones and teeth seals the deal for me. I’m a Shroud believer.
According to the GOSPELS' CONTEXT the Shroud of Turin cannot be the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ! This can be checked quite simply by trying to answer the following questions on the basis of the Bible: (1) What is the correct bible translation of the Greek word “sindón” - “a linen Shroud” or “linen cloth”? There is no indefinite article "a" in the original Greek texts of Matthew 27:59, Mark 15:46 and Luke 23:53. Apart from this and considering the context, a correct unbiased translation/interpretation of SINDON must be "linen cloth" because Joseph of Arimathea must have bought ALL the needed burial linen material: bandages/strips (OTHONION) and the head cloth (SOUDARION). And John didn't mention SINDON in his gospel because he also didn't mention the all-inclusive purchase of Joseph of Arimathea. John focused more on the burial and resurrection details. (2) What happened to the “burial spices” - a 32 kg sticky mixture of myrrh and aloes? John 19 39Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds [32 KG]. 40So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths [OTHONION] with [META] the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. Nicodemus was a leading Rabbi who knew what was needed, how much and that there was enough time to do the burial spicing. Jesus died around 3 pm and Sabbath started around 6 pm. Enough time to take the body from the cross, to wrap/bind the body in linen bandages/strips WITH the spices between the bandages/strips, according to the burial custom of Jews at that time and to transport Jesus to the nearby rock-tomb. (3) What the women intended to do after Sabbath - “anointing” or “burial spicing”? As shown above, the burial spicing was completely done by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. This was observed by the women. After Sabbath they intended to ANOINT Jesus' head as an act of honour, removing and readding the head cloth (SOUDARION). (4) Why to use an extra head cloth „soudarion“ when wrapping a body in something like the Shroud? The head cloth (SOUDARION) fully covered the head and the rest of the body was wrapped/bound in linen bandages/strips (OTHONION]) with the spices between. The head cloth was part of the burial custom of Jews at that time, as we can see in John 11 (resurrection of Lazarus). (5) What convinced the people in the 1st century that Jesus rose the third day? So, there is NO EVIDENCE for something like the Shroud in the gospels. It clearly contradicts the context and it didn‘t play any role from the beginning of the real church of Christ. No Shroud was and is needed to believe in the resurrection and overall in Jesus Christ: Joseph of Arimathea bought all the needed linen cloth (SINDON). That means bandages/strips (OTHONION) and the head cloth (SOUDARION). Nicodemus organised about 32 kg spices. That means a sticky mixture of myrrh and aloes. Jesus was taken from the cross and maybe he was also washed. Then the body - except the head - was wrapped/bound in situ with (META) the spices between the bandages/strips (OTHONION), according to the burial custom of (rich) Jews at that time. The head was covered with the head cloth (SOUDARION). Even then Jesus was carried to the nearby rock-tomb and was laid in there. The rock-tomb was closed with a stone and sealed. This was observed by the women from a certain distance. After Sabbath the women intended to anoint Jesus head removing and readding the head cloth (SOUDARION) but ... 1 Corinthians 15 1Now, brothers [siblings], I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that He appeared to Cephasa and then to the Twelve. 6After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth. All you have to know about Jesus Christ and for faith is in the Scripture. I have an emotional reaction to the cloth. The image, based on all of the things that I have learned about it, seems to be the actual image of Jesus; and that is wonderful in a way that I can feel.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 Kinda explains the light from within... And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:5 The cave was dark, making the conditions perfect for a "dark room".
John 20:6-7 debunks this shroud thoroughly. Question remains do you believe the bible or this shroud? Is the bible lying? Do you believe the eye witness testimony of Simon Peter or do you believe a European from the 1300s?
As a Dr. of Physics and a previous lecturer on Nuclear Physics. I can state that the 1988 C-14 dating was flawed due to the two fires that the Holy Shroud was involved in. Remember, the Holy Shroud is an artefact, not a biological body which breathes. I have seen many counter arguments to the Holy Shroud, each almost as fantastic as the next. When you consider the facts that the Holy Shroud cannot be replicated with today's technology, the pollen grains removed from the cloth which are from Israel only around 33AD, the corresponding injuries, the detail of the pre-torture injuries in the image and the latest findings on the blood samples detailing radiation and crucifixion-associated injury markers, I have no doubt that the Holy Shroud is authentic and the Resurrection image of Christ Alimghty.
Before latching hard onto the Carbon 14 argument, David remember the term "GIGO" Garbage In=Garbage Out. The sample analyzed was not a pieece of the original. It was actually a piece of cotton cloth used to repair the boarder damaged over time by handeling.
That's the popular theory, but since the RCC won't allow further examination of the Shroud it's pure speculation. And NO ONE says it was cotton (the whole cloth is LINEN).
Habermas focuses on 1 Cor 15 instead because it was written earlier by Paul, someone who didn't believe initially and who talked to Peter, James, & John (Gal 1 & 2). Almost all NT scholars say Paul actually was the author, whereas they are less sure about the timing & authorship of the gospels.

Pollen from the Levant region. Soil exclusive to the real Calgary Road, not the one for tourists, is found on the nose, knees and feet. The amount of fresh flowers is extraordinary and He was adorned with traditional Jewish gear. Even had a girdle with a pattern that goes back to Abraham times. That is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Right shoulder has wounds to the bone. The thorn on the forehead went deep enough to enter the skull. Every time I see His Suffering I weep. Can't help it. It's a natural reaction for me.
I am so glad you are covering the Shroud. I first came across it from watching Giulio Fanti, how the image was created in a similar way to a photo copier. Good stuff from Barrie Shwortz and the STURP team. 👍
I lean to it being real. If it's real, it accounts for multiple variables... Something that fits the description of the shroud is mentioned being related to the Knights Templar in; if memory serves; the 12 century. Also their is early art of Jesus; if I recall correctly it was in the mid-late 1st millennium and early 2nd millennium; looks like it was made based on the shroud. Then there's the data on/of the shroud that; at least imo; is best explained by the shroud being real.
My issues with the Shroud are that A) John and Luke both mention the "strips" that Jesus was buried in - there is no hint that he was wrapped in one complete sheet; and B) John mentions specifically that Jesus's head was wrapped in a separate cloth (which John observed resting to one side of where the body had been), which again seems to imply that the shroud does not match what we know of Jesus's burial from scripture.
The facecloth of Jesus was wrapped around his head after he died but was still on the cross. After he was brought into the tomb it was removed and set aside. Since it contained the blood of Jesus by Jewish law it had to be buried with the body. But he was not put back on him. The strips were used to hold the body in place during rigor and to secure the Shroud to his body.
Yes and John even says that if everything would be written there, all the books of the world would not be enough 😃 There is an interesting video of the shroud in spacereinstitute channel from 4 years ago that shows how the other linen stripe that holds (Jesus's?) body together inside this bigger piece and even can bee seen in the picture and has been later stiched to the side of the bigger piece.
The sample they took was from a peice that was stiched on after the fire damage. But they have paintings of the shroud from the 1100s. Also it has 2 different weaves. The main weave is from the 1st century.
I first felt it is real ! I was not raised a Christian, but when I saw it and his face, all my being said it is real. After seeing many many interviews and facts I am convinced it is real !
*Most studied relic on planet earth. Simply refused by skeptics. All researchers says it is not a forgery. Not a single person authentically refuted its authenticity.i have been studying this subject since 2010.o strongly believe this is the burial cloth of my saviour. Love from Kerala/India*
I find the discussions of the Turin interesting. I would say my belief shifts between 30-75% depending on the points discussed as well as the day and time. Due to the human propensity to worship idols instead of God, it’s probably best that it’s never proven 100%. I prefer to keep my focus on my faith and not focus on rabbit trails.

Jesus's body was initially wapped in a cloth. It is later wrapped in linen strips with the mixture of spices. The linen cloth that Luke mentions, sidon, is not mentioned again. Only the othonion, the strips of linen, and a head napkin are mentioned. Something in how these strips and the napkin are arranged made 1 or 2 things clear to Peter: his body had not been stolen (Would thieves fold a napkin?), and perhaps, his body had been removed without unwrapping or disturbing the strips of linen. These facts would point to Jesus being alive! Luke 23:53 NKJV - Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. John 19:40 NKJV - Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. John 20:6-8 NKJV - Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.
How does it make sense that someone could make a forgery like that back in the early 1300s and yet our modern science still can't recreate it? To me it's common sense that it has to be real. As our species grows in knowledge and understanding of creation, God continues to also give us more and more complex proof of Him as well
The problem with carbon dating begins with the sampling. Sure, the cloth can be traced back to the 13th century without interruption, but after that it is unclear. Was it the holiest relic in Constantinople that the French crusaders stole when they sacked the city and the emperor complained to the Pope to return it to the city? It has its plausibility, but there is no evidence. But it is known that the Shroud was damaged by fire in the Middle Ages and repaired by nuns using a French embroidery technique. The Vatican even allows the STURP team to take samples from anywhere on the cloth (except where the image is), but some researchers insisted on taking samples only from the corner (the worst place of all, especially since that is where the fabric frays the most and is repaired). The piece was cut into seven pieces, and the smallest piece was cut into three more pieces. These three were tested in Arizona, Oxford and Zurich. None of the three labs had the same result... which is strange, and in 1988 the average was simply published. The anonymous donation of 1 million pounds after the publication of the result is also dubious... and then the fact that Oxford refused to make the raw data of the analysis public... it was only in 2017 that they were forced by the courts to publish it. The cloth was too contaminated, especially since it was known that the Shroud had been repaired several times. Samples would have had to be taken from everywhere for an analysis and not just from the corner... especially if the Vatican even allowed it, they should have taken the chance, but certain researchers insisted on only taking samples from one corner. That's why carbon dating is useless to me and has always been dubious, especially when you look at the other facts about the Shroud (picture, 3D, Poland, blood, blood that matches the Sundarium of Obviedo 1 to 1 in terms of blood type and blood prints, traces of clay, no dyes, the wounds etc. etc.). For me it IS the Shroud of Christ.

We’re given two images really. One, the one we see in regular lighting; we see the outline of the body and the blood, that’s the dead figure. The other, the 'negative/x-ray’ image of the man just as he is resurrected, so what you’re seeing is a man at that very moment brought back to life. That’s why it has this slightly otherworldly, eerily fascinating feeling when we see it
@@vdonielNot necessarily. Lazarus, Jairus’s daughter, and the graves of saints opened and appeared to many. What’s different though that would cause an intense flash of light? This is where Christ is different - the purgation for our sins.
I've seen a lot of people say that biblically it can't be Jesus' shroud because there was a separate cloth covering the face. I surmised that they probably used 2 cloths, one for the face, and one for the entire body, including the head. That info about the second cloth is very interesting. I had pictured the head cloth to have been over the body cloth, but now it sounds like it could have been under the body cloth, given that the blood from his face is on the face cloth and not on the body cloth, making the radiation projection of his face onto the body cloth through another cloth that much more amazing.
You can surmise all you want, but IT DOES NOT MATCH the description in John 20, which describes STRIPS of linen (not one giant piece) and a separate cloth for Jesus' head.
There is another cloth, the Manoppello Image. It fits the face features like eyes, mouth, nose, face hair, etc. with the Shroud of Turin. But on this image the person is alive and has open eyes. The 0.1 second picture of Jesus after resurrection. To be honest there is also a third cloth, believed to be put over the face of Jesus when taking down His dead body from the Cross. It also fits face features with the previous two. God bless! 😇
His body was wrapped with several strips of linen not just one strip the word is in plural! Then the head was wrapped in a face cloth and was found folded separately by Simon Peter.. no mention of a shroud that covered his entire body front and back and certainly no talk of an image of light left on said wraps of linen! This shroud is debunked by the bible

Dear Dr. David, with love, I strongly suggest you and everyone interested in this matter to watch the presentation posted on RUclips by Dr. William Guy. Even if the shroud itself can't prove the resurrection, it DEFINITELY proves that a radiation energy of enormous power is what generated the linen superficial aging coloration due to accelerated oxidation. Btw, the blood stains have protected the linens from the oxidation proving that the blood was on the cloth BEFORE the image was generated. There's even the stain of blood and water (not visible at naked eyes but visible with special lighting and photography) from the side of the body where the gospels accounts reports Jesus was hit by the spear of the roman soldier. Quick note, carbon dating is as reliable as the sample used for the dating... wrong, corrupted, samples... wrong dating... as simple as that.
The description of the grave clothes, post-resurrection, given in John 20:7, word for word, is as follows: "and the soudarion (face cloth, singular) which was upon the head of him, not with the othonion (linen cloths or strips, plural) lying, but by itself, having been folded up in a place" The Shroud of Turin is a single piece, whereas the othonion were plural pieces of cloth. John has noted that the soudarion was lying separately, as though he might have expected it to be together with the other cloths. I'm not saying it is impossible to reconcile this verse with the Shroud, but to me it doesn't seem to fit well.
So you would also have a problem reconciling John with Matthew, right? "And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud" (Matthew 27:59).
@@apologeticsroadshow Another person has given a possible answer to my difficulty by pointing out that could have been both a shroud and strips that were bound around it. Thus both the singular shroud of Matthew and the plural linen cloths or strips of John are correct. I'm not sure how the soudarion (face cloth) fits into the burial clothes, but a bandaged shroud is a partial reconciliation at least.
@@apologeticsroadshow I am quite disappointed that the whole video completely neglected the biblical account. And your answer is also quite weak. Why the translation "a linen shroud" of SINDON in Matthew, Mark and Luke should be 100 % correct? There is no "a" in the original Greek texts. Apart from this: STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Program 1978-1981) report confirms very good that the Shroud CANNOT BE the authentic burial cloth of Jesus: I. SPICES According to the Gospel of John the body was CERTAINLY wrapped/bound in linen cloths WITH the spices: John 19,39+40 Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths WITH the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. So, there must be at least non biodegradable particles and stains like it is claimed for blood. But there was/is EMPHASISED NOTHING. Already that is enough to disprove the Shroud, comparing it with the biblical account. II. IMAGE And the image itself is a contradiction. There is no shading of the bodys' sides and the top of the head? Also the contact-distance pattern of the backside doesn't correspond the forensic pattern of a dead body lying e.g. on a plate. Folds, overlappings and wavy areas are inevitable as shown in a Shroud wrapping simulation video to prove "scientifically" (why without spices?!) the blood stain pattern: III. FAZIT Both, wrapping together with spices never would have resulted in such an undistorted 2D projection image. And other "scientific" discussions are irrelevant as long there is no BIBLICAL evidence that Jesus was wrapped in something like the Shroud. The regarding biblical account is shown in a video presentation on my channel. Click icon W to the left-top of this comment. Watch and refute me where I am biblically-logically wrong. IV. SOURCES (a) Excerpt of STURPs 1981 final report: "Microchemical evaluation has indicated NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SPICES, OILS, or any biochemicals known to be produced by the body in life or in death. It is clear that there has been a DIRECT CONTACT OF THE SHROUD WITH A BODY, which explains certain features such as scourge marks, as well as the blood." I heard that it was in the possession of the House of Savoy for 5-400 years and in the court people would take small snippets of the shroud (crazy), it had also been resown during the middle ages because of a fire. Those snippets were perhaps the ones that were radio carbon dated in the '80s that correctly points to the middle ages -however that doesn't necessarily mean the entire shroud is from that time period.
We know that for the radiocarbon test in 1988 they only took one sample from one location the shroud and cut it into 3 pieces and then tested the 3 pieces of the same sample. They didn’t take 5 samples from various locations on the shroud like the 1976 research team suggested would be necessary to precisely date the shroud. Given the blatant refusal to follow protocol it’s hard for me to put much stock in the c14 test. If they wanted to get an accurate date, why wouldn’t they take multiple samples? But if they wanted the test to show a medieval date, naturally you’d carefully select a portion of the shroud that had been repaired with material from the 1300s and send that material to be tested.
My spread of probabilities is probably 20-80%. In situations like this where the uncertainty is so high I tend to lean on principle concerning what I believe. If actual memorabilia (for lack of a better term) of Jesus remained then the human proclivity to worship objects would likely take over. Because of that principle I tend to self regulate my belief in the shroud to under 50%.
@@lolgamer-bl8zp Well, Dr David Falk's expertise lies in Egyptology only which is not related to the shroud. Also I've seen Dr David Falk's take on who was Egypt's Pharaoh during the Exodus and it feels intellectually dishonest tbh. It's incredible how he does his mental gymnastics around his things. So I would call him unreliable pretty much on many things.
This is something that has fascinated me for a while. So much so that I read all the STURP publications, books on both sides, and I even critically studied every claim to refute or duplicate it that I came across. And I've been convinced by the preponderance of evidence. There are just too many coincidences. It's the remnants of serous fluid mixed with blood pooling behind the man's back from what looks like a spear wound in the side. There are remnants of pollens from the middle east that bloomed only in Israel at that time of year. The image being confined to the topmost fibrils of clothe by what appears to be radiation. That alone is mind-boggling to grasp when you understand how paints and burns and dyes and other coloring methods work. The types of blood from different wounds (venous, capillary or arterial). The apparent scourge marks. The rigor mortis. The accurate wrist marks at a time (the claimed middle ages forgery) when they thought the nails went through the palms. The lack of signs of decay from a dead body. Blood, yes. Decay from the body, no. The inability to replicate the image even today with all the technology we have. I have to say I'm with Habermas on this one, perhaps 90-95% sure it is the burial clothe of Christ. Could there be a once in a century kind of intellect like a Tesla or Da Vinci who devised a way to fool everyone, creating an image that wouldn't be seen or appreciated in detail for centuries? I guess, if you really want to believe in long shots. Could I be swayed to believe because of my Christian faith? I honestly don't think so. I look at everything as a skeptic, because if it is true, my skepticism will drive me to poke holes and shoot it down, not merely accept it. And if it is true, all those attempts will amount to nothing. It will still stand and I will be left flummoxed. When I was a child I saw the shroud as another silly Catholic relic like saints' bodies that don't decay (but are really fixed with wax and hermetically sealed away from oxygen). I saw it as something people clung to in order to believe. But today, if my life depended on it, I would confidently wager it is the burial clothe of Jesus without hesitation. Not because it holds power or I have to have it be true in order to justify my faith, but because I can not in good faith disprove it, and in fact, the evidence is pointing so strongly in the other direction I would have to be willfully blind to ignore it.
Yes I firmly believe that THE proof of the Resurrection of Jesus that God has made for the world to see and believe! It's too perfect to be otherwise...God is GREAT ! It's 💯 godly authentic for me!!! Glory to God 🙌🏽😍
The medieval repair done on the non consequential area of the shroud after the fire- was the part of the shroud that was tested. Glenn Beck had another expert on explaining this. Another thing- they noticed that the radiation may have captured movement onto the shroud, as He was being resurrected. Amazing. Our God is amazing.

John 20:7 clearly describes the burial cloths as plural, the head covering separate from the body cloths (plural). John was the only eyewitness of the empty tomb out of the 4 gospel writers. His account is the most detailed of the burial cloths and therefore the most definitive answer as to the plausibility of the shroud of turin being anything to do with Jesus' burial. And that answer is a resounding No!
Those of us with at least normal intelligence know that only the Shroud was used to contain the body of Jesus. The facecloth was wrapped around his head when he was brought into the tomb but then it was taken off of him and set aside. The strips of cloth were used to bind the body during rigor and to secure the shroud to his body. He was not wrapped up like King Tut. Duh! Rather sad how many low IQ people there are out there that will call the Holy Shroud a fake due to their own ignorance.

Where's their test result from a piece of the fabric that had actual bloodstains on it or from a small portion of where the image of the body was
Personally, I do not require any kind of empirical physical evidence or proof. I know with 100% confidence that it is the burial shroud of Christ. I have no actual evidence or proof, I just know. It's not even a matter of belief. I just know, I just know it to be true.

So, when combined, “photograph” literally means *_"drawing with light"._* This makes sense because photography involves capturing images by _recording light._

This is why it shows up in the records around that time and why the carbon dating goes back to that era. I'm not sure if it's real or not, and it doesn't matter to me either way. But it's a cool story that makes perfect sense to me.

Your guest mentions that one of the carbon dating guys later debunked the carbon dating of the shroud; I'd love to hear more about what his debunking evidence was.

I think it needs to be asked, if the shroud is really Jesus' will that be proof for people to come to Jesus? I don't think it will be for 'skeptics'. A wicked generation asks for miracles and then ignores them as evidence for what they wanted to see.
This debacle is Matthew 16:4 more or less: ”An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.”
The sign of Jonah IS the Lords crucifiction, burial and resurrection.

According to the GOSPELS' CONTEXT the Shroud of Turin cannot be the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ!
This can be checked quite simply by trying to answer the following questions on the basis of the Bible:
(1) What is the correct bible translation of the Greek word “sindón” - “a linen Shroud” or “linen cloth”?
John 19
39Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds [32 KG].
No Shroud was and is needed to believe in the resurrection and overall in Jesus Christ:
Joseph of Arimathea bought all the needed linen cloth (SINDON).

As a Dr. of Physics and a previous lecturer on Nuclear Physics.
A quote based on St Thomas Aquinas': “For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t believe, no proof is possible.”
Before latching hard onto the Carbon 14 argument, David remember the term "GIGO" Garbage In=Garbage Out. The sample analyzed was not a pieece of the original. It was actually a piece of cotton cloth used to repair the boarder damaged over time by handeling.

Early paintings of Jesus showed him clean shaven. When the shroud was made public again a few centuries after Christ, those images changed to bearded.
@@beverlyhurd8556 That's guesswork. The Gospels don't contain any such detail.

If they worship the shroud because it's 100% proven, they never had faith in the first place. 😂

@@easybandzofficial6456 How does John 20:6-7 debunk the shroud?

God bless! 😇

The description of the grave clothes, post-resurrection, given in John 20:7, word for word, is as follows:
"and the soudarion (face cloth, singular) which was upon the head of him, not with the othonion (linen cloths or strips, plural) lying, but by itself, having been folded up in a place"
The Shroud of Turin is a single piece, whereas the othonion were plural pieces of cloth.
@@apologeticsroadshow
I am quite disappointed that the whole video completely neglected the biblical account.
And your answer is also quite weak. Why the translation "a linen shroud" of SINDON in Matthew, Mark and Luke should be 100 % correct? There is no "a" in the original Greek texts.
Apart from this:
STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Program 1978-1981) report confirms very good that the Shroud CANNOT BE the authentic burial cloth of Jesus:
I. SPICES
According to the Gospel of John the body was CERTAINLY wrapped/bound in linen cloths WITH the spices:
John 19,39+40
Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
II. IMAGE
And the image itself is a contradiction. There is no shading of the bodys' sides and the top of the head? Also the contact-distance pattern of the backside doesn't correspond the forensic pattern of a dead body lying e.g. on a plate. Folds, overlappings and wavy areas are inevitable as shown in a Shroud wrapping simulation video to prove "scientifically" (why without spices?!) the blood stain pattern:
III. FAZIT
Both, wrapping together with spices never would have resulted in such an undistorted 2D projection image.
IV. SOURCES
(a) Excerpt of STURPs 1981 final report:
"Microchemical evaluation has indicated NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SPICES, OILS, or any biochemicals known to be produced by the body in life or in death.
It is clear that there has been a DIRECT CONTACT OF THE SHROUD WITH A BODY, which explains certain features such as scourge marks, as well as the blood."

(two parts - the links you can find on my channels' Playlist)
I heard that it was in the possession of the House of Savoy for 5-400 years and in the court people would take small snippets of the shroud (crazy), it had also been resown during the middle ages because of a fire.

I didn't need the Shroud to believe but it is still fascinating and I believe it is authentic.

Duh!
