- Download the diagram and follow along with the video! Fun modular origami butterfly ball model made from 12 units. After assembled, toss it in the air and give it a whack. The model will burst apart and butterflies will fall to the floor.

Yes, the "water bomb" model begins with the waterbomb base. Many models begin with a waterbomb base and turn into flowers, frogs, etc., whereas the butterfly ball is made from just waterbomb bases.
The first time I tried to put this together, I was all thumbs. The 2 things that made it easier were using a small box to keep the units from moving apart and opening the units so they are wide. When the units were too tightly folded, it was difficult to slide them in place.

The Kawasaki Rose is one of my favorite models to make, and it gets very easy to fold after making couple. If you don't find a Kawasaki Rose video that you like that's already on RUclips, let me know and I'll do the video. I wasn't sure if there was a need for another video on the rose.
(I also have another very simple stand for flowers in general that I'd like to post.)
@DragonFury09 Yes, the memo paper I was using is the same paper/weight as printer paper.
I've broken it at least 10 times and remade it. It's much easier putting it together after you've done it a lot. ;)

I didn't use thin origami paper, I used 3.4 inch sq memo paper, which is about the thickness and stiffness of typing paper. What paper/size are you using?

No, not at all. The one in the video is made from 3 1/2 inch (about 9 cm) memo paper. How small were you going to make it?
This one was tough, I was up to the last row twice and it fell apart. In the end I managed to come up with a way to make the first 6 modules easier to assemble and then I really carefully put the remaining 6 in there.
Great videos, easy to follow and they are not too hard either. I'll try the Yoda once I get my hands on some colored paper.
lol... thats pretty kool! one thing that everyone forgets is that it takes LOTS of practice to do these things sometimes.... ( i know iv wonted to pull my hair out on a few) but when you start getting frusterated set is aside and come back to it later......good job by the way!!!! good luck everyone
cool. I guess that can be used for a little origami party or whatever. like when people graduate they throw their hats in the air, the butterfly ball can be used for an origami party lol.
She means you throw it in the air and then you hit it and she's saying that the waterbomb bases are 'butterflies' and they will come apart and fall to the ground.
I understand, i think with practice, i will need less than 2 minutes to do it (i'm kidding :) ). Also, You have beautiful hands! As i'm learning magic for some years, so i looked at them and ... it is true, nice hand you have! We can knowledge someone who have "artistic mind" (i think), by these kind of details!

when you say waterbomb base, when you have that triangle fold. is that because thats the first step into making those inflatable balls you fill with water and throw? (im asuming you can fill them with water, i just inflate them)

When I was done with the bottom part I put a pill bottle to keep it together for the middle part and it worked. :)....................30 minutes later: I glued that mug

but srsly, it shouldn't take 1 hr, i just made this cube for the first time -- i was done in 15 minutes. And i used 3 x 3 cm squares, which is much harder to control than larger versions...
I made this in half an hour and had 7 seconds of fun with it xD

Don't use glue!!!!you can't burst it like that!,use blu tac for the first 4 at the base, thn it would be easier to hold on to
folding this paper takes forever!!!!! GEEZ!!!!!
The first fold you make is a mountain, not a valley.

Argh when I somehow manage to finish it. And then make it explode. And then finish it. I'm going to take it to a shooting range and throw it up and shoot it. But no really what kind of little box thing where you using. It looked like a cd case.
