How to make Origami Buckyballs from PHiZZ units

- Instruction on how to make "buckyballs" (dodecahedron, truncated icosahedron) from "PHiZZ" units.

For what it's worth...some facts:
- It looks complicated but it is really easy to make. Much easier than the "5 intersecting tetrahedra" or even an origami swan!
- The unit used in this modular is Thomas Hull's "PHiZZ" unit (pentagon-hexagon zig-zag unit).
- Another advantage is you can fold it from standard square memo pads and do something else the same time as these PHiZZ units are really simple to make.
- It may look fragile but the links are quite strong you can build giant models with these.
- The big model shown the "standard" buckyball is a representation of the Buckminster fullerene molecule, which consists of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a sphere (32 planes: 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons all neatly arranged around a sphere).
- Very good remedy against boredom, high blood pressure, smoking, insanity, anxiety, stress, excess spare time, restlessness etc. etc.! ;)

Hi! I made one and it turned out great. I had a few fish curl kusudamas laying around and I decided to combine them using this pattern. It looks awesome!
For the big one I followed the ring of 5 surrounded by rings of 6 method and I only needed 90 units..did I go wrong somewhere?

Just to let you know though, the Truncated Icosahedron actually only needs 90 units as the polyhedron only has 90 edges. Just like the Dodecahedron only has 30 edges, so only needs 30 PHiZZ units :)

how do you put the dang things together? i have the three PHiZZ units together, now how do you put those together?please help

how many "triangles" does the small one need?
Is there any logic in the colors? Mine is blue, red and white. I tried to keep the same color pattern in each 5 or 6 ring but it doesn't seem to work. Anyway it's great. I already fold dozen of balls from your videos and I use them to decorate the whole house. Thanks.
out of curiosity, is it possible to make an even bigger ball using more units?

Thanks so much for responding! Actually it's so crazy; last night it just clicked for me, and I made the 30 module unit! IT's so cool. I only did it using white paper, but it still looks really neat! Great tutorial. It just takes some time to visualize everything, which seems natural. Thanks!:)

I made this from gold foil and gave it to my chemistry teacher. I think it looks better with only one color unless you know how to pattern the colors correctly, which I don't.

okay so me being cheap i wanted to make one but only had tiney little small post it notes laying around. SO all day today i made 150 of them thinking that it is me and a craft so something is going to get broken... now i cant figure out how to put them together.. i neeeeds help :))) plz and thanks :)

Look up a truncated icosahedron for refrence, the thing in the thumbnail is a truncated icosahedron while in the tutorial is a dodecahedron, each ring has 5

Quick note: They're not strong enough to handle dogs, bunnies, sisters or other animals that the ball might encounter ;P
