- For all those who like a challenge! This is an extremely complicated model to assemble so do pay careful attention to the still pictures when they come up. This would take aproximetely 2 hours to complete, but it looks fantastic at the end. Good luck! Tell me if you have any trouble or want any tips and I'll try and help out.
Hey, nice vid! I did one before too. Actually have the book. To aid construction, quote the author "There is strong symmetry in the structure. Any 2 tetrahedra are interwoven with one corner poking through a hole in the other and vice versa, like a 3D Star of David, but slighly twisted." Cheers!!
That is an amazing origami model. I haven't done origami in a while, but this vid is tempting me to go back into it just to make one of these for myself!!
Just doing it with white paper is really difficult! Congratulations, you have been promoted to the title of origami ninja! :D
Oyes gracias por subir este video, esta figura yo la hice hace como 5 años y ya no me acordaba!!!, Y como perdí las piezas, pues creó que me iba a costar mas trabajo jijiji!! Ahora manos a la obra!!
Hey extremeorigami,
I've made a few of these :)
Found it's the most difficult when made out of checked origami paper... with all the tetrahedra the same pattern... You are right though it is a great piece and your video is top class :) I've posted it on facebook as a challenge to all my friends!
Thanks for this mate!
Thanks to this video its the first time i dared to make a geometrical origami!
Keep up the good work!
AAAHHH... the ART of nimble finger-workery.
haha... you have an awesome smile!!
Well my turn to try it!
beautiful vid, I love this art. And I love the music of ur vidz...
Thank You!
I've been looking for video instructions on this
Brilliant Origami. Brilliant Vid. Don't listen to the haters. You've got a skill some people would love to have (me and my mum). If the haters don't like it why watch it.
AMAZING! Thank you so much for making this video... I couldn't figure this out with any other tutorial I watched or read, but after a few failed attempts using your vid, I finally got it!
it's 5 intersecting tetrahedra
if you look at the finished product, the vertices will make 12 5-sided faces
if you connected each of these 5 vertices, they would make a pentagon. If you did this for all vertices, you would have a dodecahedron
this makes sense because a dodecahedron has 20 vertices, and a tetrahedron has 4, and there are 5 in this model
Thanks you my friend
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👍
Gratifying
Nice job on this :) I've made dozens of these and even now I can get stuck occasionally. I really should get a knife for cutting paper though, I'm still folding one sharp crease and ripping! I'm getting damn good at it though haha.
Hope to see more from ya.
try holding the flap behind open as you slot the piece in, then folding it over again to seal it.
It doesn't matter how big the pieces of paper are. I've made one of these models that fit into the palm of my hand before. However, it gets more tricky to assemble it the smaller it is.
That's really awsome!!!!
But we have to do this for scholl now and the teacher is going to give marks....
It doesn't really matter how big the squares are. However, it makes it easier to to assemble if you have bigger rather than smaller squares. I use 15cm by 15cm.
For those who are wondering what he does at 1:33, he repeats the step at 1:59. You're all welcome.
I don't know if I'd classify that as kirigami.
Sure he cuts the paper, but just to specific sizes to not waste paper, not to "cheat" on anything.
Dude! I have to make one. I think they'll make good christmas decorations.
hello eres muy habilidoso con tus manos!!!
ere un gran artista!!!
desde argentina saludos y besos!!!
Oh and I love puzzles... and this is kind of like a puzzle in it of itself! :D
good work !! Buen trabajo !! tienes mucha paciencia.
wow, this definitely looks like something i'm going to be doing over the next few days lol
that is absolutely amazing! great job!
Of course! :) It is easy for those who are used to doing origami, but for beginners, it is very complicated. When I put this up I made the assumption that it would be mostly beginners who would stumble across this video, not necessarily origamists.
wow! congratulations, it's very difficult for me :-) but thank you. Saludos desde España
Impressive...The force is strong in this one :)
I'm glad that it finally came together. Satisfying isn't it?!
This is a very nice model, so far, im at where you put the third shape in. But sometimes when your building it, your hand and the camera goes off the screen and I couldn't see what was going on. I was just relying on the final picture of each step. I dont think I can get all the way to the end though.
it's just an x-acto knife. You could also just use scissors or just rip the paper. However, the best guaranteed result is the x-acto knife.
Nice Tutorial, but try to keep it on camera! even if you have to zoom out slightly... just a tip. It's difficult to see what you're doing in the last 1/3 of the video because you half disappear off the screen... and especially when you're threading one module through others :p
3/5 for this tute. 4.5/5 for the finished product :)
It must be in the aspect ratio of 1:3. This is because it is mathematically possible to physically weave 5 tetrahedrons together if the "Struts" are 1 by 6 (since the 1:3 rectangles are folded in to a 1:6)
So far, I've only did two tetrehedra, with the yellow and green. I dont know how to get them to try, like I have to keeppushing them together. I can't explain, yours is so perfect lol.
thanks for video, I've already started doing my own star :)
It's because the corners must bend around each corner to lock it in place.
For the last strut, you have to push one of the struts with the slot flat (carefully) so that the pocket is open. Then you put then other strut with the flap in side. You need to press all three struts together at once to make sure it gets in to the pocket all the way. Then crease it softly to lock it in place.
It does take practice, but it's not terribly difficult
Good luck!!
No, I live next door (UK) :) I just saw on your page that you were Norwegian. Thanks for your comments! I hope that you manage to find some paper ok.
I used 15cm by 15cm I think. It doesn't really matter what you size paper you use but you will find it easier to start with bigger squares. I've made one that could fit in the palm of my hand before - it was hard!
Thanks! :) Yeah, once made a small one (that could fit in my hand) with just the colour blue before. That was quite difficult too!
cheers! Glad you liked it. Oh yeah, I'll try and sort out that 'lenten' video for you sometime soon.
wow! Sounds awesome. I'd like to see that when you finish
wow
thats awesome!!!
wooow, you are a master!!!
i'm wondering how much one of these made would cost. it's funny, i've been doing origami for years, but i always need something in front of me to do multi-piece projects
you need 30 pieces of paper to the ratio of 1:3. They are made using 10 square sheets, 2 pieces per colour
Im going to have.. er.. "TetraHedric" Nightmares now. What's with the Exorcist Theme music at the Beginning? haha. Brilliant job, I can see it's worth the 2 hours assembly...I wonder how fast it burns...5/5
Thanks :)
Sorry I went out of the camera view then. If you keep watching I repeat that same stage on the other side of the piece of paper.
OMG!!!!
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
This is great, but often your hands go out of the shot and I can't see what you're doing. I noticed this especially when you're showing how to form the ends of the paper strips and then later as you show how the tetrahedra go together. Your hands are out of the shot and we're left looking mostly at mat.
next to this video in the 'related videos' section is a video called 'tetrahedra' by STiKdork. That might help
yes it looks so cool
Interesting geometry. At first I thought it was just a rotation of a tetrahedron about an external fixed point, but then I noticed the dodecahedron structure. Odd.
thanks! you should really post this video on metacafe, cause if u get over 20 000 views, you wil get over 100 dollars. And beacause you edited so incredibly well, you will probably get 500 bucks!
i'll try to go on ebay and search for Origami paper. thanks
HAHA i cant wait to make this..but i need origami paper...should get to that..
Wow. Awesome.
finaly! after your done the third tetrahedra and a few pieces its simple!
jah jah jah the song!!! ..
remainds meeee somthing.. jjaa ...
creeeppyy!! jeje shea!!
wow it is great man
if you wait a few secs, he does the same thing on the other end of the beam, you get to see it then.
omg!
very nice!
very very nice working...Perharbs,it is very difficult to making this working..
its called origami paper. Some hobby stores sell it, but you can definetely find i on the internet. Try ebay or amazon
hmm i'll give it a shot
are you norwegian? because i am lol. thanks, that did help, if i can find that kind of store. hehe, but i probably will. Great video and great editing. Thnx!
that.........is intense
yay! High five to you! :)
you're so cute !! thanks for the video!
Camila
yeah, the third one is the killer! If that is in properly, it is pretty much done
oh my god
this wonderfull
thank you for that video
i know some other stars but this is now the best one
I TRY hahaha and well ... it was horrible haha
is funny try ... i think i should train more, for sure.
awesome !!
cheers... Juli
Yeah, this one is really tricky! My other origami videos are a bit easier if you want to try making something. The origami book is fun to do :)
Ok this is an ok video, can u do it over with out getting the thing off the screen? Cause im tryna make one by following what ur doing but its confusing when i cant see what ur doing. Thx.
dude, do u have something else as cool as this one?
man im gonna try making one and if i do ill just make a bunch and give em out instead of presents XD
YAY! i made it and it is so COOL!
ok thanks, I will try it
very cool
so yea that wasn't origami, it's kirigami. I was really wondering how you were able to get that sheet folded, but then i realized it's not one sheet of paper, and that the other papers were cut. Still very cool though.
yes, it is Turbular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Nice watch :P
Thank You for this video! =D Fantastic!!!^^
I going to try making this and will be using 15cm squared origami paper to make it.
I believe the pieces are known as Francis Ow's 60 degree units, but is there a 108 degree unit to make a dodecahedron?. Also how big would it need to be?
After I have made the star I would like to build a big enough dodecahedron in which to place the star so each point of the star is touching a vertex of the dodecahedron.
dude this is amazing! can u make me a vid of this but slower? id luv it!
Im doing an Origami project at school, what grade do you think I will get?
Thanks :)
P.S. Love it!
@7061
Those rules only apply once you start folding. How do you think paper get'ssquare in the first place? It's cut somewhere...
Technically this is modular origami.
Hardest part about this (at least for me) woud probably be folding the thirds! For some reason i can never get perfect thrids...
yep. I've seen a picture of one done with dollar bills
I can't quite picture what you are describing. Have you seen a picture of it on the net?
It's called an X-acto knife and they're easy to find in craft stores
LA RAJA LA HUEVADA JAJA!
EXCELENTE!
the triangle was good enough for me >.> i got tired
Thanks for the video!!
very good, I get do... =D
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
:) 5/5 I've made 2 of them so far.
No es posible seguirte porque se vas de la cámara. Lo podrías subir de nuevo? Es un trabajo hermoso. Gracias
ur origami star is nice but u r so cute! *¬*
I tried this a year ago and i failed to complete it, now ima give it another shot =]
don't you see that? first he folds the flap you see there over the other, so it make like a point, then i Inside-reverses the other flap and you can see the rest
The video as a whole was good but the way it was put together was hard to see because you were leaning back.
