    Freddy is a great slasher villain because he actually gets to talk (also a charm of the Child's Play franchise, with the talent of Brad Dourif). So many of the iconic killers are just silent killing machines that it is refreshing when one of them gets to have a personality.
    Robert Englund does such a great job, it's no wonder the series has so many entries. While they are not all winners, Freddy is always a lot of fun.

  • @johnlynem
    @johnlynem 3 года назад +60

    So a few fun facts. The movie Nancy was watching to stay awake was Evil Dead, can't wait for you to watch that. In response Sam Raimi ( ED Director) or one of the crew snuck onto a Nightmare set and stole freddys glove which can be seen in ED 2.
    Craven got the idea for N on ES when he read a news report about asian refuges having night taerrors and saying a boogieman or demon was trying to kill them in there dreams, some died in there sleep.
    Freddy was based on a bully when he was a kid named Freddy and a homeless man who frightened him as a kid that wore a fedora hat and a stripped sweater.

    • @harleyjackson3708
      @harleyjackson3708 3 года назад +9

      @Kevin Orourke Robert Englund accidentally cut himself on NOES1 because the knives were real. Wes Craven almost killed everyone with that blood bed. Robert Englund broke his nose as a stuntman in Roadhouse and that's why he really has a Freddy nose now. The knives are meant for fish. There was supposed to be only one claw. The stripes are red and green because they're uncomfortable together. When Freddy jumps out from behind the tree he's facing the wrong way so his glove in the shot is on the wrong hand. The sparking glove scraping the wall in the alley was done by hooking a car battery to the glove which could have killed Robert Englund. His face and head was the only part of him burned in the first movie, when he lifts his sweater up his chest is unburned and has hair. Nancy married the soundtrack composer at one point. Freddy raps better than me. Freddy raps better than all of us.

So Wes Craven shot the ending with the vehicle in Freddy colors with the screaming teens to set up future sequels for the film studio basically, even though he probably didn't really like it.

      Was going to comment about this, too. Yep, Craven wanted to end with Nancy and her friends simply driving away, leaving it in question as to what was a dream and what wasn't. Robert Shaye insisted on a shock/twist ending, encouraging Craven to have Freddy appear in the driver's seat as the car drove away. Craven hated the idea and what we see in the film was their compromise.

    Because I know nobody understands this ending, I will explain it within the lore of Freddy Krueger without any spoilers. His power is based off fear or belief like a tulpa. The stronger you believe in him the more powerful he is. His dream powers either followed him into the real world and he pulled Nancy back in at some point or she never really woke up, but either way when she takes back her power it weakens Freddy. He didn't just kill Tina and the others he got them scared enough to be real enough to them to harm them first. So Nancy defaults into a good dream which is really a delusion to put her into a false sense of security so she's even more terrified when Freddy takes her away. Thus taking the energy transfer of belief back. Trying to earn more fear points essentially. There you go it mostly makes sense now. No they don't really explain the ending in any sequels. I'll also be here to explain anything in the sequels that doesn't get explained in the franchise once those videos drop

    Robert Englund is a national treasure and easily my favorite horror icon with Michael Myers at a really close second and Chucky brings home the bronze medal 🥉 because i grew up idolizing those three since i was about 10 years old and didn’t really care for Jason Vorhees until a few years ago when i bought the first 4 movies, Part VI Jason Lives and Part VII The New Blood. I have all of the Nightmares except for the 2010 remake and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994). My favorites of the franchise are the 1984 original, Dream Warriors, and Dream Master. Glenn’s death scene will always be my favorite of all the kills throughout the movie if only for the ingenuity and creativity of it all.

    Some geek trivia/fun facts for you two:
    The music that has the "tch-tch-tch-ah-ah-ah" like Friday the 13th, or this Nightmare on Elm Street, and other similar movies, is a music genre that was labeled "Horror Synth", since is technically synths making dark atmospheric music, and in the 1980s the synths were very popular (Synthpop music), I mean look at the hits of each of the years hehe.
    Horror Synth is not completely forgotten, sometimes is used on Indie Films as well, like the contemporary horror film "It Follows" (2014).
    Is very cool music anyway.
