I used to not like how quickly everything went to hell in this movie and how quickly everyone picked sides, but then I lived through the last 5 years and I now feel like I owe Stephen King and Frank Darabont an apology.
I wish more filmmakers would take chances with endings like this. Sometimes an audience just needs to have their hearts/guts ripped out to make us appreciate the things we do have.
Best ending ever. Sorry but...that took balls. Every Hollywood movie has to have a happy ending but no...here is the most nihilistic ending of all time. I love it. Hee hee.
Never lose hope. That's a message that could be taken from the ending.
One could say the moral is "never give up hope". The theme is cemented when he sees the girl in the transport with her kids. She kept going. He gave up to a tragic end.
When asked if he was angry that they changed the ending to his story for the movie, Stephen King replied that the only thing he was angry about was not having it written it that way.
The reason it ended the way it did, is because if it didn’t, no one would talk about it. This ending is so unbelievably memorable.
Stephen King on the ending: "Frank wrote a new ending that I loved. It is the most shocking ending ever and there should be a law passed stating that anybody who reveals the last 5 minutes of this film should be hung from their neck until dead."
One of the best stephen king films. Favorite aspect of the story is the realization that humans have the potential to be much worse than any cthulhu-type monsters or demons. It took that woman a day to rile those people up into a frenzy and start resorting to human sacrafices. I'll give you that it's a crazy situation, but the clear headed people in that store all decided they would rather deal with cthulhu, massive crabs and demon spiders than stay and deal with the REAL monsters. The fear driven fanatics. Absolutely terrifying.
“He made it halfway back..” 😂🤣😂🤣
The movie wasn't about the monsters overall. It's showing how humanity turns on each other in dire situations based on our beliefs
“Well, he made it half way back.” That’s too good.
18:12
"Well he made it halfway back." I. AM. DECEASED. THAT WAS SO GOOD.
34:51
The take-away from the ending is "Don't stop, believing. Hold on to that feeling". 😂
That ending is what’s going to keep this good-not-great little sci-fi/horror movie from 2007 alive forever. One of the greatest endings ever.
“Shut up, you miserable buzzard! Stoning people who piss you off is perfectly okay. They do it in the Bible, don't they? And I got lots of peas!” ... Love it! 😂👍👍
Believe it or not this movie is actually about never losing hope
I still can’t believe this movie was released on Thanksgiving.
