The fact that the ending got a seal of approval from the man who wrote the short story, Stephen King, I think speaks for itself.
Mr. King is infallible? I really liked the short story. I thought the movie itself was fairly ok, not good, but the ending elicited such a hate response in me, it lasted for days. Trash.
@@jauntx the Way people are talking about "Patience" in the movie and that the character was dumb for making a hasty suicide decision is fucking beyond me.
Like. We shouldn't even be having this conversation.
Everyone literally saw what happens to anyone who steps into the mist.
His son even said "Don't let the monsters get me."
Seriously, in a world that's this bleak and hopeless, and everything around you in said mist is already dead and decaying?
How the hell is he gonna know there's back up coming?
Everyone had committed suicide, the ones that haven't died by monster attacks, radios are out, phones are down, the power is out.
A lot of things for a single man to comprehend.
The fact that he even chooses to die the worst possible death ever, instead of the people who were with him was fucking heroic.
And that's what's painful about the scene, not his mistake, it was his desire and his love to protect those around him, that he made very wrongly.
This movie is pure gold.
@@Steve-yn3cs My issue with it is a similar issue I have with Shawshank (although Shawshank ending ticked me off more. Fantastic movie until the end) in that both written stories finished open-ended. Shawshank just let you decide if Red found Andy or not, but movie audiences (mostly the Americans) almost always need that Hollywood happy ending so desperately that they had to show it. Insulting. Mist movie ending was opposite of that but what I loved about the written story's ending is there was no resolution. The fate of the world was left in question, while in the movie the world seems to be saved. Yes, what happens with our protagonist is shocking and tragic, but in comparison, still far less bleak and hopeless. He may not have gotten a happy ending in the movie, but the world still did.
@@jauntx Not really. I disagree. The soldiers are "trying" to handle the mist from the looks of it. And I don't think they ever can, or things can ever go back to the way it was.
Did you see the freaking behemoth of a monster that was briefly shown? Do you know how many those things there could possibly be?
The military guy said that this monster dimension has merged completely with the human world.
That means they'd continue to fight until they can somehow make the dimensional creatures extinct(good luck in fighting an enemy you know absolutely nothing about).
That's no hint of a happy ending to me. That's just a military convoy burning some parts of the mist in where they are.
For all we know, the Mist could have covered the entire world.
Despite giving the "hint", that the soldiers are trying to handle the issue, it doesn't effectively conclude that everything is fixed.
And it stops there, leaving the main character with his mistake, and pain surrounding it.
Still bleak to me. I get what you mean, but I don't agree with you, that scene is just one scene, you can't use that to suppose the military are somehow handling this.
@@jauntx That just means you are kind of dumb, if you can't control your emotions.
The ending was such a twist that Stephen King himself said he wished he had thought about that when he was writing the novella.
I always cry🥵
What gets me is it’s a super realistic ending too.
@@WOLF_ArchAngel4 Yeah. It was so cathartic. I dunno why but I truly believe that if this would happen in real life, some people would be doing these things too.
I thought the ending totally ruined it, to be honest. If the film had simply ended with the main character shooting everyone, and then wandering off into the mist, in tears, ready to be eaten alive for killing his own son, that would have been a fitting ending to a pretty hopeless movie. But the army showing up at the end, along with several of the people who left the store early on still being alive... just ruined it for me. Like, are you kidding me with that crap?! That was my reaction in the theatre. I still don't like that resolution to this day!
@@jacob4920 Dude killed his son and the people he formed a strong bond with in the short span of a day, then probably an hour later it turned out he wouldn’t had to take such extremely EXTREMELY painful decisions had they waited or even decided to leave later than they actually did. Then finding out the first woman who left the store to look for her kid is alive with WITH HER OWN KID. You can see the main character screaming in pure agony and sorrow and stuck with what he had to go through AND DO playing in his mind over and over again. The ending is extremely scarring for a human being to go through such thing like this. I think the ending elevated the plot at least 10x.
I’ve worked retail.
This is EXACTLY how people would react.
Underrated film.
Underrated comment! 💯🧡
cos people are collectively stupid, for example watch these people talk.
That one karen would be the death of us all.
Me too, and I can confirm it 💯
Fellow retail employee, this is very accurate.
I absolutely love this movie. I can understand someone not liking it, but to ridicule it and hate it so much was very surprising to me. The film is HIGHLY regarded in the horror community.
Right. I wasn't expecting that either but I can see why one might lump it together with badly written movies with terrible CGI. I think it offers much more than that and has more substance though.
This is something for those who have watched TWD too much ahahhahaha already lost their sensitivity. When I saw The Mist, I hadn't seen even a third of these series or movies, so the film came full of reflection on survival, community, communication, rash attitudes, the terror behind animals and men and women.
I've watched N&S for ages now, and enjoy their reactions, but every once in a while, they miss the target (mainly movies iirc). I understand everyone has different reactions and thoughts and opinions, but this was a bit far off, definitely not as bad as they made out (there are films 100x worse in the horror/sci-fi genres). For instance, The Mist TV series was the epitome of terrible script and production!!
The film had a $18million budget, and made $57million, so reasonable to good box office.
Also it wasn't Aragog (I know it was a joke!!), that creature is called The Behemoth.
The black and white Darabont version feels much scarier.
Sorry don't agree with the reaction on this one.
Movie was trash.
i bet they were just salty about the ending. not alot of people liked how the ending played out
You were definitely NOT trolled for this! You just happened to not like a movie a LOT of people love & like! This is a favorite for me & one of the best rollercoaster rides I had in the theater. And what a gut-wrenching ending!

my fav thing about this movie is how stupid and annoying these characters are. it is sooo accurate to how a situation like this would be irl. people really are stupid/selfish!
Yeah, to me this is completely believable as far as how stupid real people would react to something this crazy. I could totally see everyone joining some Karen's cult.
Not if you live in a competent place! Maybe if you live in Portland or something this movie is believable! In my city we’d be level headed and working together.
@@Randomyoutubecommenter Lets see how level headed your town is when people are full of spiders. 😑
Actually yea humans would be that dumb
If people…can’t believe I said people… idiots IRL couldn’t wrap their head around the idea of a virus and the vaccine to deal with it, you think they will face something otherworldly like this with reason?
People are horrible and idiots. I second the shared motion here.
Before now I've genuinely never seen someone not understand why he shot his group. This was a first.
Hell yeah!!! Being first is awesome.
Right?! its pretty clear nobody wants to kill their own kid or other people, but its better a quick painless death than letting themselves be thorn appart by uneartly monsters.
Real escaped slave mothers were known to have smothered their own children so they didn’t cry and give away the position of the whole group while fleeing on the Underground Railroad. Better a quick death than a long tortuous one they reasoned.
@Nina Roux in that moment where was the threat? Absolutely nothing was even remotely close to harming them when he fired.
@@NikkiStevenReact There where blackwidowers (the spiders that killed Myron in the parking lot running around and they can even be seen at the end when the soldiers are burning off the mist with the flame throwers, there where gigantic beasts walking around like the crab like one that killed Jessup the soldier and the Behemoth that you see at the end passing by the car, waiting inside the vehicle would have made them easy food for anything out there.. i understand your opinions and i love your chanel, its just weird to me that you guys usually get all the details many times before anyone can point them out for you unlike this time lol.
Saw this in the theater with my wife when we were dating back then. She kept saying that nothing better happen to the little boy. Having read the story, I assured her that it’s a dark ending but the boy will be fine.
Till this day, she has not forgiven me.

I saw this on theaters too. Once we got to the last 5 minutes I don’t think my friend and I said anything to each other until we got into the car.
I had already seen it before I met my wife. One night I recommended we watch it. She really enjoyed it…until the end. She was also pissed with me that I had her watch a movie with an ending like that.

Why are you taking it so personally? Difference of opinion and being adaptable hearing different perspectives... they are not making fun of anyone liking this movie, they are expressing their personal reaction to it. Jeez.
Fun fact, the portal the scientists say they opened led to somewhere called todash space, the area between universes filled with demons. This is where kings monsters like pennywise are from. The dark tower series goes into it more in depth.
Are they connected?
@@bookeblade OBVIOUSLY.
Sort of yes. Stephen King has been writing about a multiverse for years. If you actually read all his books it’s crazy how many of them have connections.
@@LindsnDarth to be fair some of the connections are like. “My boyfriend from Derry..”
Type of throwaway lines.
But reading Insomnia the first time not knowing it connects to DT was the biggest “HOLY SHIT!!!” Moment of my life
Interesting. Sorta like Event Horizon?
Blimey, this has to be the strangest reaction to The Mist that I've ever seen! Plus it should have been seen in the original Black and White, as the director intended and was released on disc.
The fact that scientists open a portal to an alien planet, unaware of the ecosystem present, and then when all it's wildlife comes roaming out just simply doing it's natural thing but now on Earth, we assume that they're the monsters. When the truth is, we're the monsters, the evil of human nature comes flooding out from people in the store, in less than 24 hours, that's the horror.
And in the end, for a parent faced with what appears to be the end of the World and an inevitable grisly fate, makes the ultimate decision to save his Son from that, and leave himself to face the horrors outside, only to have it turned upside down at the last moment, having to live with the consequences of his actions. As a Father that last scene tears me apart every time.
But hey, I guess we can't all feel the same way about this awesome film.
I love your interpretation of the film because I wanted to write something very similar. The showing of how horrible humanity can get and how quickly they can get there is what I live about it.
ugh the black and white concept was so dumb! glad the studio didn't let him do it!
The way the ending made me feel is how I felt about their reaction. I’m genuinely shocked they didn’t like it but I guess to each their own. Although once they started ridiculing it I felt personally attacked… 😂🤣😂🤣
That’s understandable. People generally watch reactions to things they themselves enjoy and don’t like it when their favorite things get shit on.
Never seen active hate for this movie, but to each their own.

That was a little disappointing. Each to his/her own, to be sure (especially with nearly 8 billion people on the planet) Sadly, it wasn't quite as enjoyable at times for me as a result. 🤷🏼♂️

If yall had stopped all the stupid comments and mind set talking about dicks and making fun of people and actually paid attention and had a serious thought between you two, you would maybe have been able to appreciate this film. I meant in terms of what to expect. It’s an homage to old B movie monster movies from the 60s so the premise is that “Weird Fiction” genre not many people are used to.
But also it’s a Stephen King story where he uses supernatural elements to tackle issues he’s dealt with/sees.

Melissa McBride was a casting director during these times while taking on minor roles like the one in this movie. But her small part in here is what landed her Carol on Walking Dead, supposedly. You can see the similarities between her character in this, and Carol/Sofia.

The movie is a human nature horror film more so than a sci fi horror film. The special effects weren't great but in all fairness I didn't think the monsters were scary. The people were the scariest part. I love it because like what 28 Days Later and TWD the first few seasons did was show you in a post apocalyptic setting the threat isn't the monsters or zombies, its people.
I don’t know, the dog food eating giant spider monster was kind of scary.
@@NikkiStevenReact to correct you there, it didn’t actually eat the dog food. It made the bag burst, dropping the dog food all over the floor, and then ate the bag. And whatever those tentacles were attached to, it obviously didn’t know what dog food is, let alone a dog altogether. An unknown monster discovering an unknown world(our world)
I read this story long ago and it haunted me for years. I'd didn't think it could be made b/c the special effects at the time couldn't be done. I didn't want to be disappointed like I was with the shining. But I really, really liked this movie when it came out and was devastated by the ending. I know...to each his own.
It wasn't eating the dog food, 😞😞😞, as others have said the people are the monsters. It's a study of how society and the norm the ordinary can break down, its the humans that become the most dangerous things in the room, nevermind what's outside.
Im pretty sure that Frank Darabont wanted to have the film done in black and white, both as an artistic choice (throwback to the 50s and 60s horror movies and how blinding fog is in black-and-white) and to work with the budget he was given--special effects, especially CGI, always look better in monochrome, but the studio didn't think it would sell as well and forced them to use color, which had the added effect of making the cgi a bit wonky.
I watched this movie at the theater and everyone one was shocked at the ending. I literally felt depressed and I loved it lol. Movies always have a happy ending, most of them and well this wasn't a happy ending and it was brilliant.
half life?

This movie is a GREAT horror film if you don't count the obviously dated special effects. It's a terrifying, dread enducing and absolutely heart breaking film that I love to watch at least once a year. It shows you just how dangerous humans can be when there is no hope in sight.
Really that’s the only objectively terrible thing about the movie. The themes, the core ideas, the atmosphere, the acting, the ending pretty much everything else is either spot on, or take it or leave it.
This movie deserves SO much recognition, such a gem, too Bad You guys hated it...
No way... The fact that they hated it is what made the reaction so great 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's like they were FORCED to watch it.
That was so much fun
To each their own but in my opinion you guys got this movie all wrong. Yes the CGI was janky but it was all about the human story and how we revert to tribalism in crisis. And the ending still disturbs me to this day.
We talked about that somewhere in the end.
The ending of this movie blew my mind the first time I saw it
Yeah I was so upset & hurt by it
That famous ending, of which Stephen King said it was better than his in the book. To quote him:"I wish I had thought of that."
Obi wan dies in stairwars
Blew the mind of the last 4 in the car too! ho ho ho
It blew his son's mind and as well....
They already knew how quickly the monsters found people in the mist. Literally seconds. So they made the only rational decision, to die quickly rather than horribly and slowly. Also, recall the guy promised his son he would never let the monsters get him.
For those who say they couldn't do that, imagine watching your kid get eaten alive by giant insects. You tell me you wouldn't put them out of their misery?
I have never once seen someone laugh throughout this movie before. Interesting.

"dumber for having watched it" wow. no words.
You guys missed the point. People on edge. Unknown enemy, unknown circumstance. Paranoia, religious zealotry, looking for someone to blame. You bring all these different people together and all of them think they're right. When you corner a rat, what does it do? Your reaction to this is bizarre. This is a very well-regarded movie, yet from the very beginning you both seem determined to think it was terrible.
It’s not bizarre at all. Just because something is well-regarded doesn’t mean it will land for everyone. Why would we go into a movie night wanting to hate the movie? That’s bizarre.
@@NikkiStevenReact It just didn't seem like you gave it a chance after you saw the CGI. I mean, you compared the movie to Birdemic. That's crazy disrespectful.

I like this movie but their reaction is completely valid. It's only has about a 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes meaning 35% of audiences didn't like this movie.
You went in expecting a horror/thriller movie, when really its more a social commentary on society. People are prone to paranoia and distrust, and will turn on each other near instantly when things go south, While at the same time the movie is ultimately displaying the message about the power of hope and what happens when it disappears.
We actually went in expecting nothing honestly

The Mist? Classic? 😂😂😂😂😂
Twilight Zone, "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street"

@Silver Wolf Ha!! love this comment. Movie was far from complex.
That’s because most of the internet prefers to live in a little bubble, parroting the same stuff back and forth to one another, without even the self-awareness to realize how bad this is for society.
I was so suprised you guys laughed throughout the whole movie lol
I saw it when I was younger so this absolutely destroyed me lol
I’m sorry you guys did not absolutely love this movie, especially with it’s vast connections to TWD of both the actors and Frank Darabont, but hey to each its own…the film is a classic horror masterpiece overall and a great one by Stephen King 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Ryan, nothing to be sorry for. We had a great time watching with the community even if we didn’t like the movie.

Don’t recall any jokes in that moment but just a bad, bad close in our opinion. We were out long before that ending. Just our honest reaction, doesn’t always go according to expectations.
I think you two are in the minority. This movie is pretty well-received in general. I think it’s better than 80% of the horror stuff made in the last 10 years.
True, i was amazed that they disliked it, it seems pretty up in their alley.
Facts!
I skipped to the end to see their reaction so I dunno if they complained the whole time. But they probably just pretended it was bad because they were upset with the ending.
I taught a course on horror films and this was consistently up-voted every semester until it was top 10.
It's fine if they do not like it. Saying it's like Birdemic it's just too much though
I've never seen any reactor shit on this movie yet. The fact that it came from 2 of the nicest people on the internet was pretty funny. If you watched it and put yourself in the timeframe it came out in, it was a pretty interesting watch IMO. I remember so many people talking about this one when it came out.
i have to say it, i haven't seen nother else from this channel, but based on this painful reaction, more than 2 of the nicest people of the internet, they seem like the Jersey people sterotype from South Park to me
It is infamous, this movie is iconic! You both watched it incorrectly. Watch it again!
The whole theater clapped at the religious lady died
I still enjoy this movie but I noticed that most people that don't like it seem to detach from being into it due to the CGI. Once the dated CGI effects come into play with the tentacles, I notice that's where a lot of people tend to laugh at that and then start to pick apart the movie as they watch it. This happens with a lot of movies, especially if someone is seeing it for the first time many years after it releases and the special effects don't have the "magic" they did when they were still cutting edge (or as close to cutting edge as possible for the time they were made). Too bad you guys didn't like the Mist, but it's still super fun to watch your reaction regardless :)
Yeah I think it’s one of those movies you have see more than once so you can get past the bad CG. Unfortunately some movies are like that where one thing can cause people to crap on everything else about it, justified or not.
Tbh that's why the black and white version is probably more effective because it helps cover up some of the CGI flaws. Idk I saw this when it came out and although the CGI wasn't the best, it was passable enough if you suspend your disbelief. I've never been one to focus on the quality of CGI though. I just accept it and pay attention to the story.
@@katwebbxo Yeah, I never thought the CGI was amazing or anything, but it was good enough. And let's face it, at least it wasn't A Sound Of Thunder level of bad CGI haha

The song at the end is "The Host Of Seraphim" by Dead Can Dance, released in 1988, and the singer is Lisa Gerrard, who co-wrote the score for The Gladiator.
I believe there's four people in this that were also in TWD, and that's because this was written and directed by Frank Darabont, who started TWD. Also, the main actor in this, Thomas Jane (A.K.A Punisher), was originally gonna be Rick Grimes.

I think you guys were kinda mean spirited about this one on occasion even if that wasnt intended (and i really dont think you intended that kind of tone) and i think thats why some people are butthurt.

@@NikkiStevenReact Not that you would, but please don't ever refrain from expressing your genuine feelings about a movie, even if it's to make fun of it, just because it might be a much beloved movie. If people can't handle the fact that you're not worshipping a movie like they do, that's on them, not you. I loved your reactions and I hope you don't ever have to feel you have to apologize for them.
This movie was meant to be a black and white creature feature (much like what the Lighthouse actually accomplished) which is a big reason that the special effects do not hold up. The studio basically forced Frank Darabont to release it in color. I will agree with some of the complaints about the acting and some of the dated dialogue. That said, the twist broke me when I first saw it. Sad you guys didn't like it but I understand it.
It's a shame really that the black and white version has never been available to stream online, only on the DVD extra disc. It basically means almost no one doing a reaction video to it is watching the true version of the film, and hence are in the wrong frame of mind viewing it.
That's cool because when watching it I thought "you know it would have been far stronger if it was in black and white and we would not seen the monsters" cause imagination is always more horrifying than bad CGIs. And cause it had a sort of Twilight Zone/Outer Limits vibe. Back in the day they had great skills at telling low budget 40 minutes horror/scifi shows in a small set. I think it would have worked better this way.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 The CGI actually looks way better in the b&w version as well. Basically, Darabont shot it in color because of the studio, but everything from the lighting to the CGI rendering was designed for black and white (as he was still hoping to persuade them). That's why the color version looks so bad.
Damn truly did not see this one coming. I would have thought this would be loved by you two. It is all good, but I don't really think you gave it a fair attempt. 6 minutes in you made a judgement and shut down from there all based on wait for it...CGI.

I honestly think that some of the more “aggressive” comments towards you both may have been in response to comments made by you guys at the end such as “we are all now dumber for having watched it.” That can be taken as a personal attack toward those who really like this movie. Just something to think on.
That being said, your reactions are still very enjoyable whether you like what you’re watching or not.
yeah, those comments people got upset about were nothing more than jokes... we don't take ourselves that seriously. Jokes can be dangerous these days and we got attacked for it. we try to have fun of we aren't liking something and have done it in the past without issue. Appreciate the comment.
This comment is coming a year late and I'd like to start by saying your reaction to this and any other movie/show is just that YOUR reaction/opinion. I personally can appreciate that you did not like this movie, it proves that you're being authentic in your reactions.
However, my point to commenting here is that after reading thru some of the comments I can see why some of the veiwers were upset with the way youve responded to some of the comments on this video. The response to rude commenters are understandable, but you're viewers, the voters and anyone else taking time out of their day to watch your video are here supporting you and as op commenter said you should take what you say into consideration. I've noticed you used the excuse of your comments here and in the video being a "joke" and even if that was ur intention many other saw it as otherwise. It doesn't cost anything for you to apologize in some of those circumstances. Those who did enjoy this movie may take it personally when you say we're dumber for watching this or calling their fav horrible. And maybe ur jokes don't exactly warrant an apology but what i have yet to see as i scroll is atleast an acknowledgement of how what you said could make those that are supporting you feel despite ur intention to be lighthearted. Just because it was okay in past videos doesn't mean it will always be okay. Also, those commenting that the premise of the movie flew over your head or that you didn't understand are saying this for a reason, it didnt seem like you understood. At the end as you said you didn't have much to say even without liking it picking apart some of the points you felt the movie was trying to make would have shown ppl ur understanding but the time wasn't taken to do that so yes people have assumed you didn't get it, and yes they might be wrong but more care could have been put into correcting that thought on your part. I hope you can understand my opinion on this. You don't have to agree but like i said it's something to consider
As ive said this is nothing against your channel or this video. I am here just commenting on some of your responses to the comments youve recieved. I 100% support you guys i hope others will continue to do the same despite your opinion to this movie. And as we see you still have a large community. Just didn’t work for me but that’s ok.
i feel like you too havent been in much situation to see how fast the shit hits the fan, this is exactly how people act especially with that kinda group.
Genuinely one of, if not THE best endings to any movie ever made.
I have watched 100's of reaction videos from Nikki and Steve. They usually get emotionally drawn in at some point to hard hitting drama's regardless if it's tv or movies. Once the cgi comment was mentioned early on during the reaction, it seemed that that set the tone, kind of looking at this as more of a cheesy 70's/80's horror schlock fest and not a serious drama. I was waiting for that moment to be overcome at some point, but it never was and mostly laughing and hilarity ensued until the end.
Unfortunately the point of the movie was missed in part due to this. While the cgi seemed dated, even for 2007 when it came out, that was not the point of the film, nor were the creepy monsters, and judging by their response to other comments, they are well aware of this fact by now. They aren't hurting anyone by holding to their opinion on this while some in the comments are acting like they did something wrong because they came away from the movie disagreeing with a decent size chunk of fans, but I do hope they will at least take some of the comments focusing on what the film was about seriously and not dismiss them.
I think a rewatching of this at some point in the future off camera, with some of the things in mind that have been mentioned here might be good. Or not, it's all good either way, but you could at least maybe understand what the heck some of the viewers here have been trying to point out.
I think Nikki's reaction at the end with shock and horror was as close as we got to them enduring what this film was trying to go for. It's terrible to imagine how horrible that would have been for Thomas Jane doing what he did after feeling like he was left with no other options, to then moments later be "rescued" by the military. Poetic injustice.
It's already been pointed out, but just to quickly reiterate, when crap hits the fan, hope begins to wane, and despair sets in, people become ravenous and go into survival mode and the many factions that quickly began to form are as realistic as it gets. The Walking Dead also explores this in depth and I also think this is why some are confused here, because almost everyone watching your channel knows how much you two love TWD and this was written and directed literally by the same writer/producer/director Frank Darabont who placed similar themes into both The Mist and TWD. It's why it had so many of the same cast from the first few seasons of TWD. The acting, the interactions between characters, and the melodrama may have not been what Steve was looking for, I don't know, but this was definitely a film that examines the human condition under extremely intense and uncertain circumstances.
Your post pretty much sums up a fraction of what some viewers were expecting: a bit more of a deeper dive into what the movie was attempting to convey.
Well said 👏
I agree with you completely this reaction made me really sad because I thoroughly enjoy Nikki and Steven but they legit didn’t give this movie a chance I was actually surprised lol.
