Well they thought the creature was really close so they didn’t really have hours to spend crying & thinking if they should get out on foot & hope their are no monsters nearby or just mercy kill each other so they don’t have to suffer anymore.
I was SHOUTING at that dude to venture into the mist and just shoot each other as soon as a monster was spotted. I mean at least that way you might still have a chance to reach new shelter or just die a little later anyway
The mist has literally the most heartbreaking ending I have ever seen in a movie ever. It’s genuinely the one ending that will stick with me forever. I can’t imagine what he was thinking when he saw the tank and the rescued people, knowing that he just mercy killed his son and the others for no reason. If they had just wanted literally 30 seconds.
Bec if the writers did that, audience would say " what a predictable ending and it's boring as hell" that's why the writers put plot twist at the ending nobody expected that serves the audience right haha.
I liked to ponder on the theory that killing the child, as the crazy lady said, would have actually worked. Admittedly, I think it would be better to just leave it as ironic, since there is barely proof of crazy lady's claims.
Well only his son needed to die! As a sacrifice to end this all but he didn't know that at least I think that's what that old lady or someone else said
Another great bit is when Ollie shoots Mrs Carmody and says "Well, I killed her." And David responds "Thank you Ollie." Something about that interaction just cracked me up.
"Tell you what. The day I need a friend like you, I'll just have myself a little squat and shit one out." Is something I still quote to my friends because it was so hilarious when we heard it the first time
I never realized this before, but the bullets add up perfectly. It’s a six-shooter so, assuming it was fully loaded when they made moves to leave, the two shots that took down Carmody would leave only four remaining. To think, if Ollie had just gone for the headshot first, David wouldn’t have had to live with himself after the Mist finally cleared. Christ, this movie really does just keep getting more and more depressing.

Just finished the movie and probably the saddest detail about the ending was that we see the mother who left at the beginning survived with her children, which means that David might've been able to save his son (and maybe even his wife) had they left sooner. Never mess with mama bear! It's totally my assumption here, but I believe these creatures react mostly to sound. Creatures without eyesight (or low sight) like caves or low-visibilty areas tend to rely heavily on sounds. Also like the monsters in A Quiet Place. Stay low, stay quiet, don't panic. I'd assume that's the only way she actually made it.
What gets me the Most about this is... This was an incredibly noble Action. David Wanted to spare them the horror of death by the hands of these Monsters. @@theobserver480 Technically because they are another dimension they are from a different world, so they by technicality are aliens. Although its not really a invasion as they simply all seem to be animals doing what animals do. The Crab monster however i believe was sentient.
K but this movie doesn’t make me scared of the mist, it makes me scared of the idea that during an existential crisis, I could be cooped up with a bunch of idiots
Literally the humanist angle of fear for every scary movie with more than one person, lol good job on discovering the horror genre exists. Next you should try any zombie movie, any slasher flick, any ghost story, or any possession movie.
It was sad ending, even worse by the look of the Soldier's looking in the car to were what he did. Of course I thought why not have the lady hold your son with her head pressed tight against his, then shoot one bullet two dead, then the other two. That leaves one left for you.
@@arohk1579 bullets can enter through the skull and not come out the other side occasionally, instead they ricochet off the inside of the skull. But it really depends on the type of gun and the distance. Also I think David wanted to mercy kill his son quickly especially when he woke up so there wasn't too much planning.
the ending was honestly heartbreaking, all of them in the van with no idea what to do then deciding to shoot themselves just to end the pain quicker, not knowing they were just a few minutes from being rescued. imagine the shock david felt all through him!
That ending got me in tears. REAL TEARS. I rarely ever cry when watching a movie, and when I do, it wouldn't have any emotion to it like I had in the Mist. 10/10 must watch film
@@croc560 Your opinion sucks. It was a great twist followed up by another great twist that highlights how fear and panic can cause you to act irrationally even when said fear may not be warranted. Had they waited twenty more seconds to see what was approaching them, they would have all survived the Mist. Plus, I like the added bonus that the military isn't completely useless and just falls apart the second a crisis happens, because for some reason the most powerful military in the world folds in nearly every cinematic crisis situation it's involved in. Did they cause all of this to occur? Yes. Are they actively fixing the problem? Yes.
I really didn't think it was that great. The only thing that I felt watching that scene was anger. I felt nothing for the Mc. Supposedly, the book had a better ending and not a "oopsie daisy!" killing of the remaining main cast. It wasn't clever. Imo it was idiotic and just for the shock factor, which made me and many others watching the movie (who I've talked to) angry.
The Mist: “I have the most kills.” The Belko Experiment: “No, I have the most kills!” The First Purge: *”FOOLISH MORTALS”* Final Destination: “I’m gonna do what’s called a pro-gamer move.”
I love how they portrayed the monsters as more like animals. You can see the bugs only stung when they felt threatened, which is why Mrs. Carmody didn't get stung, she was being quiet and still. You can also see that the 4 winged creatures only preyed on the bugs at first. The giant spiders also are shown to use prey as nests for their babies, like parasitic wasps. The creatures also don't chase and kill people needlessly. Every time we see someone get killed by a monster, they were being hunted or used to feed offspring. These details clearly show that the creatures from the mist are animals from another world. The mist/fog surrounding the creatures is just how their atmosphere is. I'm guessing they come from a world that is very humid and the air is thick, so much so that clouds form at ground level. I'd really like to see a sequel to The Mist where a bunch of soldiers and scientists are sent to where the monsters came from to study the mist and its flora and fauna.
@@LuckClover1 The big one that grabbed Ollie near the end of the movie? I don't think it hunted for sport, big animals need to eat way more, and it isn't going to pass up easy prey.
@@LuckClover1 Yeah, that's how predators typically hunt, they snatch up some food and run off with it so nothing else can get the chance to steal its kill, not every animal eats their prey where they killed it.
i started crying when they took out the soldier, since that scene i couldn't stop. The look on his eyes... All the fear, the sadness, begging for his life with a group of psycho watching him while he is on his own. What a powerful scene. And then the ending, damn, i felt like a child, it made me so weak.
My family actually owns a house in Harrison Maine which is the town that borders Bridgeton ( where the movie is set). The store where it is set in the books is a real store that we frequently shop at and do things around. The lake we live on (long lake) is where stepehn king was where he wrote this and other classics like shawshank and the shining
One thing I also noticed is that the army at the end comes from the direction that Davids car came from, meaning if they had driven in the opposite direction, they would all have survived.
That one lady (Melissa Mcbride) went into the mist on her own and survived with her kids, Irene had a home made flame thrower, and that other guy (Dale on the walking dead) was good with a spear
Dead Meat is one of the only channels to me that stayed consistent in quality, but improved over time for the hell of it. James' commentary is excellent, when he was monotone to now when he's much more expressive
This ending was so depressing I’m crying rn from Irene’s death, I liked her too much from the pea can and being brave. She also reminded me of my grandma so to see her go was really sad
If there is one movie in the world I couldn’t be paid to rewatch it’s The Mist. I saw it as a kid and shortly after, our power cut out, so I was just sitting there in candlelight having nam flashbacks about the movie
Funny enough that's actually happened to me before when I was also a kid. My cousin and I were in a cabin watching a ghost documentary esc show and like mid way through the episode, when shit was going down, the power went out and I'll tell you rn it both confused and scared the shit out of me bc we were the only ones in the cabin and it was broad daylight outside
Ollie was my favorite character. He was so badass until he got killed 😭 Heres why he shouldve lived. 1. He was braver than most of them (like when he was willing to use an axe to cut that squid alien 2. He knew how to use a gun and killed one of those flying monsters 3. I kinda loved the fact, that he seemed to take the death by the monsters hands as a 'punishment' for shooting all of them in a mercyfull act, he kept the promise he gave his son, he knew it was mercy but killing so he chose this end for himself. Even though it makes such a tragic ending it's still such a nobel and curagious act to choose that horrible ending for yourself for your 'sin'
I was SOOOO depressed with that ending. I hated and loved the makers for doing that cause it was such an awful thing to do, but at the same time so well done and powerful.
Cause the gas ran out in the car, they heard noises coming and thought they were going to be eaten, but he only had 4 bullets left. He mercy kills them and goes out of the car waiting to be eaten...to only find that it was the military coming to save them. =(

Ollie and the old lady are truly well built characters and well made humans.
Really? Ollie was easily killed
K but this movie doesn’t make me scared of the mist, it makes me scared of the idea that during an existential crisis, I could be cooped up with a bunch of idiots
Same. I'd rather cuddle with one of those spiders than be trapped with that crazy lady.
Mood. When the chips are down, all the crazy comes out.
Literally the humanist angle of fear for every scary movie with more than one person, lol good job on discovering the horror genre exists. Next you should try any zombie movie, any slasher flick, any ghost story, or any possession movie.
Claudia if you and me were in similiar situation with a mall of bunch if idiots i would want to be in your team
I kind of think that's what they were going for in this film. It's more about psychology of the human mind during a crisis like this or an apocalypse
He killed his friends and son only to discover that they where only a few seconds away from being saved.
That’s a big OOF
Ikr? When I first watched this movie I was like
“Bruh...”
f in the chat for that one
It was sad ending, even worse by the look of the Soldier's looking in the car to were what he did. Of course I thought why not have the lady hold your son with her head pressed tight against his, then shoot one bullet two dead, then the other two. That leaves one left for you.
Wolvie that’s smart
@@arohk1579 bullets can enter through the skull and not come out the other side occasionally, instead they ricochet off the inside of the skull. But it really depends on the type of gun and the distance. Also I think David wanted to mercy kill his son quickly especially when he woke up so there wasn't too much planning.
the ending was honestly heartbreaking, all of them in the van with no idea what to do then deciding to shoot themselves just to end the pain quicker, not knowing they were just a few minutes from being rescued. imagine the shock david felt all through him!
I would have thrown myself under the tank.
@@connorstiles1001I will ask for 105MM HE to my body if that happens
That ending got me in tears. REAL TEARS. I rarely ever cry when watching a movie, and when I do, it wouldn't have any emotion to it like I had in the Mist. 10/10 must watch film
uh no, that ending was shit. An "oops" ending?! Just have them all be killed by the creatures if u want "Sad"!
Yes.
Come and See, A SERBIAN Film
Those should cheer ya up.
This is literally my biggest fear. Being stuck in a small place with killer bugs everywhere. I hate bugs.
Patchster me to I hate bugs to and they are my fear. =3

I'd really like to see a sequel to The Mist where a bunch of soldiers and scientists are sent to where the monsters came from to study the mist and its flora and fauna.
except the Acklay creature, it looked like it kills for sport
@@LuckClover1 The big one that grabbed Ollie near the end of the movie? I don't think it hunted for sport, big animals need to eat way more, and it isn't going to pass up easy prey.
@@jacobcox4565 You sure? It literally ran off with Ollie's dead body and was just grabbing people and walking off
@@LuckClover1 Yeah, that's how predators typically hunt, they snatch up some food and run off with it so nothing else can get the chance to steal its kill, not every animal eats their prey where they killed it.
