Hi Adam this is Eva. I am a disabled 61 year old trying to save as much money as I can living alone. I had the same washer and ordered the same part. I was able to get it done. It took two days though. I will not cuss but that ground wire screw was a aaaaaa pain. At least I know now that I will struggle with it again some day. You are my hero. It took me long because I needed a 5/16 socket and ratchet. I had to wait until my brother in law could get my father's for me. But job is done and now to get back to clean clothes. Thank You so much for the help.
I just did my repair this morning and it didn't take long at all. I didn't use the adjustable wrench. I used a 8mm socket wrench and it worked great. This video is very helpful for all DIY people like myself. Thank you so much for this repair video. I'll keep your videos in mind the next time I need to fix something.
Tried to figure this out myself, glad there are guys like this who take the time to make a video for people like me who have never been into appliance repair... worked great, thanks Adam
I think you just saved me over $100!! This was really helpful, my husband and I are going to order the part shortly! Thanks for being so clear and concise, excellent video!
Thanks! This worked for me. Mine was an old Kenmore (made by Whirlpool). Only had to remove 2 screws on the lower front panel to to lift it up and disconnect the wiring harness. Most difficult part was getting the ground screw off---used the wrench as you suggested but hard to work it when you can't see it!! Now the spinning stops when you lift the lid. Back in business 👍 👍.
We were unable to do it properly until taking the cabinet/shell off. We didn't know how and so RUclipsd that and then we couldn't get the shell back on and had to RUclips that. Thank you so much for the video. This was exactly what was wrong with our washer.
After watching your video 2x's, and receiving the part, I just finished the installation on our triplex's Roper coin op machine. On the old switch was a small piece of steel shielding. I was delighted that this little piece indeed snapped onto the new
my switch just went out. I removed the old switch but didn;t know how to access the plug in end. Your video helped me. Thanks friend for the directions.
Thanks! This helped a single woman be able to fix her roper washer lid switch herself! ☺ It was a bit of work trying to get the grounding wire unhooked, but easier than when I replaced the water pump. So happy I did not need to move my washer out to get to the back screws....that was what I thought was going to be my biggest challenge. No moving!!! YAY!! Thanks so much!! (This saved me a bunch of $$$!)
This video helped me with looking and assessing what was wrong with my washer. The lid switch had come apart into two pieces and was no longer able to be activated. Took the switch out, put it back together, reinstalled, boom fixed. Thanks a lot!
Did it! I watched one video that recommended disconnecting hoses, pulling machine out, and removing the cabinet. I decided to try your way first, and even the grounding screw was not as bad as I'd feared it would be, although it was threaded opposite to the righty-tighty/lefty-loosey mantra. Thank you.
Thanks. Used your video as a guide and the washer is up and running again. Tip for others is to use a 8mm gearwrench on the ground screw to make it less difficult.
Also just pop the big gold clips that are visible once you pop up your control center. Very easy with a screw driver just pry them up . The whole cover will just pivot down or come off. I did this on my kenmore with help of your video. 👍
thanks for the video helped me get the part out BUT I removed the two clips at the back on the top and the whole can moves away from the washer to access the parts.
Your video really helped me out today, thanks!! You explained it well and the fix went smooth. The only thing I did differently, was spliced the ground wire. I cut the old ground wire and spliced on the new ground wire with a crimp cap. Then I zip tied the ground wire it to the gray wire sheath to keep in in place. Thanks again.
Rather than squeezing underneath and working with little space you can slide the top metal plate off by unclipping it on the rear left (the brass clip). Super easy.
I needed one for a year or two ... But that is when My Hillbilly Side came into activation😆😆😆But NOW I Am In REAL TROUBLE!!! Thanks A LOT for making this Vid, Buddy!!! You are a life saver!!!
Good video, but as some others have experienced, the ground screw is almost impossible to budge. Had to use my bare hands and a hammer to even get it to turn. Crescent wrench, as in the video, was ineffective. By far the most time was spent on this.
Thanks for saving me from tearing apart my timer to clean the contacts, I double checked and the lid wasn't clicking but shoving a screwdriver in the slot moved the switch far enough to make it click (and let me finish this load lol). Double checking the part # when the load finishes and ordering a $19 switch that can be here tomorrow instead of what would've been a $250 used timer on ebay that would take 2 weeks ☺ Thanks again!
Thank you for doing a video on this. I was washing my daughter's bed sheets this morning and the washer was running fine at first but then started making a hard banging noise and after my husband tried to fix it the noise got even louder and then he looked at it and it stopped working. I went to check it and it had rinsed the clothes but water got trapped in a mattress cover that was in there and it got caught under the agitator and was wrapped around it a bit so I dumped the water out and then tried to start it on the rinse cycle again to get the water to drain from the bottom of the washer and it wouldn't work and the lid wouldn't click when I closed it. I think this video would be very helpful as we have the exact same washer and dryer that was recorded in this video. I will say that in the description below the part you ordered is a number off from what you showed you were going to buy in the video. It got me confused but I am going to buy the part you suggested in the video. Thanks again!
I'm going to suggest (which the creator can't), but if you've gone this far, you can go ahead and just snip off the plug for the switch and hard-wire it together and work with a disabled lid-switch. It saves $4 on a generic part and up to $40 for some of the older genuine factory parts, plus it saves a load of time.
My AMANA goes through the second to last function it does do the final spin. The lid switch seems fine. The girl who sold it to my said it's just a programming problem. After my 100th reprogramming effort it still does complete the final spin so I must pull out the heavy wet feather filled duvet. I have the duvet hanging on my door. In a day or 2 itll be dry enough to put in my dryer. I put a small load of cloths 1 hour ago and reprogrammed it yet again ( heavy, normal rince) and just waiting to see if that worked. I'm not hopeful! I had it unplugged to factory reset my washer.
Thanks for the video! My machine didnt spin but did drain. I hand sprung the clothes and moved them to the dryer to work on the machine. I began troubleshooting. thought it was the switch because there was no "click" on the door. Which I discovered when I started regular troubleshooting by rebooting it ( unplugging the machine and open/close the lid 6 times in 12 seconds) and immediately noticed the click was non existant this time. But after moving clothes over, I checked the lid again and this time the click was back. Hm odd. So I tried to run a "spin only" cycle but it would not spin. I decided to run an empty small quick load. And that's where I am now. Will update shortly. Yup no spin. Bummer. Must be either drive belt or coupler. Will check in the AM. Thanks again for video!
Thanks again! I did this 2 years ago and today I had to replace the "new" part again. At least it took 1/2 the time today, and I didn't drop the ground screw this time!
Hi, that was very helpful. The thing is I have one of those appartment size dual standing machine. Dryer above, washer below. That's the lid switch that needs to be replaced... A Worldpool model. Can you do a demo for those of us having this problem. Thanks, appreciate you.
I gave up on the ground screw and attached the ground wire to the back panel, hoping that this is just as safe -- I mean, it's part of the same steel cabinet -- right?
Thank you so much 0:030:03 Adam-I struggled with the procedure a little bit different than your washer..I had to remove some plastic covers before I could see the screws... there were a couple of times when things weren't really working but I persevered and I'm very very grateful to you for making this video. People can generally do more than they think they can but they lack confidence-😂😂
Yep, have the Whirlpool version around this same vintage, the clips at the top back release those and the entire front/top of the washer can be tilted back to get better access to the switch in question, and it also gave me access to the lint trap around the top of the wash tub while at it. Mine broke yesterday while washing, and a buddy was out doing errands and was able to get it locally for me.
I need to see the bypass on Roper made Kenmore so that I can diagnose the problem. Thank goodness for other videos since you changed this one to exclude the bypass. I also watch a number since you learn from each video. I suspect my problem is the coupler between motor and transmission. But at least change the name if you no longer "bypass the door lock."
Please help. I have replaced lid switch 2X using your video. First time worked great. 2nd washer- spins with screw driver in slot pushing quite far down but not with lid striker. Also, Replaced lid striker. Any ideas????
Nice job, not an easy task. I had trouble with the ground so I cut the new one and the original and soldered them together and applied some heat shrink tape. I still need to get to the clips. Glad I could do this somewhat competently, now my girl thinks I'm her hero again! Haha!
Just clicked your link to buy the switch from Amazon, but the link is dead. Are you able to update the link? Thnx PS- I did some Google digging and found my switch. It's installed and working perfectly!
I have the exact same washer. Yesterday it began not spinning so I got on youtube and discovered a video where a zip tie was used around the part by the lid latch. So I was going to do that. As I lean over the washer to unplug it, with my weight on the lid, it began to spin...so I thought yep, I just need to zip tie it. As I was removing the screws near the latch, I heard something fall between the tub and wall of washer. Apparently the lid to the part fell out and down. Hopeful that it landed underneath I felt underneath the washer but it's not there. I'm so frustrated because I feel like the zip tie would have worked had I understood how loose that part was. Was it glued together?
He used an adjustable wrench to loosen the ground screw, but I had more success using a combination wrench. I got the closed end over the screw with one hand, then use the other to push it down over the screw. It just seemed like the adjustable slipped off easily.
Pretty Kool, but I think you could have saved a lot of headache by taking out two top hinge screws in the back and maybe one cover screw to raise that top lid .
I have the same washer, and the lid switch went out. This video helped me greatly. Thank you so very much. The only addition I can make is when installing the ground screw back into place get a rachet socket wrench and duct tape the screw into the socket so the it does not fall out when you go to attach the grounding wire.
There are just 2 clips on the top that if you pop them loose you can tilt or remove the body cover and make it many more times easier to replace the switch.
HI, my washer does not drain. Not sound on the drain pump. I am beginnign to suspect that the cover swith might be the problem after watching your video. Ill try tomorrow. I ll test the click noise first.
Is it possible to switchout the "chunky" part by latch without undoing the washer and wires? See first post please. I'm scared to undo too much for fear that I won't be able to put it back together.
The only problem I’m having is getting the screws to the lid switch to fully go flush against the washer. They just don’t want to go in, even with the old lid switch I thought maybe I grabbed the wrong screws somehow but nope.
You can also drain your washer by taking the end of the hose out of the drain pipe and putting it at a down slope into a bucket. As long as the end of the hose is slightly lower then the begining of the hose it will drain.
If you can't get good leverage on the ground screw, then you may have to remove the cabinet which isn't that hard. I did it in 5 minutes. Pulled it and bypassed to get the water out. Ordered the part. His link at the top doesn't work anymore. The video helped a lot since I was thinking I was going to have to remove the top!!
Adam - I got everything taken apart but bc I have a load in the machine and cannot get the water out. I can't change part bc I cannot reach it (can't tilt drum). Does that part above the drum come up?

Girls go tech! 🙂

Hey, I'm just happy that I didn't drop it inside the cabinet! 🙃@@rsinj
Thank you you save us 800 bucks! we got the lid switch for only 8.99! My husband was very patient and he was able to do it! thanks a lot!
Thanks. Used your video as a guide and the washer is up and running again. Tip for others is to use a 8mm gearwrench on the ground screw to make it less difficult.

Thank you so much for making this video. I needed this exactly since my washers lid switch broke and was not 100% sure how to replace.
God bless.
thanks for the video helped me get the part out BUT I removed the two clips at the back on the top and the whole can moves away from the washer to access the parts.
Man thank you so much for this, I'm a new homeowner and figured I should try fixing my washer myself just so I know it's done. This helped a bunch!

This is where I'm stuck. How did you use a hammer? Help!
I’m having the same problem!
Taking off the whole lid was a better solution to taking that ground screw off
This will be the 2nd one for this old washer but it works so well . Thanks one question does this Roper have a filter 🤔 thank you I subscribed
PERFECT video!! To-the-point, no nonsense, exactly and only the information I needed.
THANK YOU SIR!!!

Any way to pop up the whole lid to make this easier?
The ground screw was a big pain, but I stuck with it and the $9 part fixed the washer I thought I had to replace!
Thanks for the great video and tip. Got my washer back and running. Ground wire was a pain but got it done
Thank you for this video. Took me about 25 mins only because I had to remove the casing...it was too tight to reach under there for me.
Thanks for the instruction. Replacement went very smooth. The ground screw was a PITA, but other than that it was a piece of cake.
Thanks, did the trick for me but I had to route the tie wrap 90 degrees ... still worked.
Great video, but where is the link to Adam's video of the other model of lid switch? My Whirlpool uses the other style. Thanks in advance!
Hi, that was very helpful. The thing is I have one of those appartment size dual standing machine. Dryer above, washer below. That's the lid switch that needs to be replaced... A Worldpool model. Can you do a demo for those of us having this problem. Thanks, appreciate you.

Excellent easy fix great video -Only thing different I used a small ratchet to take out that little ground screw . Thanks a bunch!
I gave up on the ground screw and attached the ground wire to the back panel, hoping that this is just as safe -- I mean, it's part of the same steel cabinet -- right?
I am just curious, if you are having problems getting the grounding wire out or back on can you just ground the part to a more convenient spot?
Look at the angles! You gotta be impressed with this one!!!
Thank you so much 0:03 0:03 Adam-I struggled with the procedure a little bit different than your washer..I had to remove some plastic covers before I could see the screws... there were a couple of times when things weren't really working but I persevered and I'm very very grateful to you for making this video. Great video. The only thing I would suggest for beginners is to pop the latch pins in the back and remove the outer metal frame for easier access.

This is the best on how to replace a Lid Switch

Excellent video on the likely cause, as well as the repair to the 'no spin / no drain' problem.

Thanks to this video I was able to find the right lid switch and replace it. Thank you so much!!
Can you do a video on how to get those white pesky wire connectors with the double tabs apart.
Excellent video. Thank you. You gave me what I needed for a clean replacement.

Great video helped me troubleshoot and fix the problem which was the broken switch!
HI, my washer does not drain. Not sound on the drain pump. I am beginnign to suspect that the cover swith might be the problem after watching your video. Ill try tomorrow. I ll test the click noise first.
Thank so much for making this video!!! You saved us so much money!
Adam, your video helped me save money. Thank you!
Is it possible to switchout the "chunky" part by latch without undoing the washer and wires? See first post please. I'm scared to undo too much for fear that I won't be able to put it back together.
Thank you for the video very appreciated saved a lot of money not having it done by a commercial labor love RUclips
The only problem I’m having is getting the screws to the lid switch to fully go flush against the washer. They just don’t want to go in, even with the old lid switch I thought maybe I grabbed the wrong screws somehow but nope.
Thank you for your video. My washer is a bit different Maytag W10150597A lid switch. Any suggestions
You can also drain your washer by taking the end of the hose out of the drain pipe and putting it at a down slope into a bucket. As long as the end of the hose is slightly lower then the begining of the hose it will drain.
Thanks! Got the old switch out and new one ordered
Thank you! Just saved me from buying a new washer.!!
Thx bro. Your video saved me couple a hundred..🙏
Which two back screws are out?!? I don't know about anybody else, but I need to SEE every step. Now I have no idea how to start.
Ordered mine off Amazon. Grandma's wash machine in her shop broke and I gotta fix it before she funds out lol simple fix for sure.
Thank you a whole lot. You have been of tremendous help. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much 😊 You solved our problem with an easy to follow video.👍
I have the exact same model! Lib switch is broken, but the washer is dead, as in won’t start. Same switch problem?
Dish soap on the screw helped me immensely!!!
Thank you so much! saved us from buying a new washer
Advise needed on how to get the ground switch screw out. Mine won't budge.
If you can't get good leverage on the ground screw, then you may have to remove the cabinet which isn't that hard. Actually, and in spite of all the comments here, it's easier than trying to do the job w the cabinet in situ. And on some some models you might be able to separate the top from the base cabinet which would be even easier.
i wish you would show how to bypass it since i dont know when i can get my switch fixed.
several videos on youtube show it. It's very easy (like, less than five minutes and one 3 inch piece of copper wire easy)
I did it in 5 minutes. Pulled it and bypassed to get the water out. Ordered the part. His link at the top doesn't work anymore. The video helped a lot since I was thinking I was going to have to remove the top!!
It worked💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 great video saved me a ton of money for 10.00
Great fix for less than $10. Thanks so much!!
Thanks. You save me quite a bit of guesswork. Easy fix.
Thank you I'm gonna give it a try?
Ground wire removal and replacement as well as access through the back are crucial, too bad you left them out.
I’m your #1 fan!
Adam - I got everything taken apart but bc I have a load in the machine and cannot get the water out. I can't change part bc I cannot reach it (can't tilt drum). Does that part above the drum come up?
This video assisted in getting the encasement removed
Can one not loosen the top of the washer lid. All that reaching underneath... Your amazon link on longer works.
Thank you very much. Appreciate the info. & def. appreciate your concern of safety & the safety of others.
Awesome Adam !!!!!!!!!! 😊👍
thanks for the info kept me from making a big mistake!
