Hi, there are a lot of videos showing how to bypass the safety switch ( a very bad idea in my opinion ). There are also numerous videos showing how to tear apart the machine and replace the switch. But your video was exactly what I was looking for: how to FIX the switch without disassemble the machine. Not only it does save some money ( and save a trip to a part store / wait for the on-line ordered part ), it does avoid to scrap a reparable part. That’s best for the environment. Thanks for posting. Note: My machine is an 80 series, but everything is the same for the switch.
My Kenmore started giving the very same trouble today. Your video is spot on and saved me at least $160.00 My tightening wire is not as neat as yours, but it clamps the parts together. The machine now works. My most heartfelt thanks to you!
I just had to replace the switch in mine. I been asking my bf to do it. And he never did. So I watched ya videos and did it myself! Worked like a charm. Not bad for an old girl. Thanks for the video
Fantastic! Did exactly what you did with wire - and presto! Did not even remove the housing/front! Just nudged the basket over! Now I can return the amazon replacement part I do not need! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
This is the video I needed to get my washer apart and fix the switch. The replacement switch was only $10 so I took the extra steps to fully replace it. Thanks for helping me get my washer apart so I could do this!
Good job. You investigated the problem and solved it by improvising instead of unnecessarily buying a new switch which would have cost you time and money to get one. Fixed it. DONE.
This video just saved my hide!!! Got back from vacation with about five loads of laundry to do and it wouldn’t drain. Back to washing now. Thanks for the tip.
I had that exact problem a while back, and solved it by cutting the rubber washer in half, but now I think that might not be the permanent solution. I had just watched your other video about fixing the upper agitator on the Series 70 with new dogs/pawls. I bought some today, so tomorrow when I replace those and I'm already in there, I'll take a look at that switch and know exactly how to fix that if that was the original problem. THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks to you, I got my machine back up and running in less than 30 minutes (mostly looking for tools & some wire I happen to have). Bless you!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!
Very useful. By just repairing the lid switch by any means possible you saved yourself a lot of extra work like pulling the entire metal washer cabinet out to get to the lid switch to replace it with a new one. Also I have seen a video of someone repairing it with a zip tie. So either chicken wire or metal wire or maybe a zip tie may work.
My switch looked pretty bad so I cut the wires at the switch and connected them. It's a good temporary fix. I ordered the part using your link. Less than $10.
My switch wasn't falling apart, but ultimately, it was the switch. Thanks for the video and for pointing out that this is an issue and what to target fixing.
thanks so much for this repair idea---just did it, it saved my bacon and my washer's bacon! I didn't know there was a wrap-wire around the switch-box workaround! I love my Kenmore top-loader [except for this safety switch issue... which has happened before] and will not part with it! I didn't have the time/energy to do the by-pass wire one that I have also seen, or to try to put a whole new switch in--so this was super helpful! :)
Awesome fix, but I would rec’d to anyone watching, to just go ahead and replace the switch with a new one. Your ‘fix’ while ingenious, may not last, and then you're back to having to replace it, just a thought? I replaced ours years ago, and it just stopped working, and so we ordered a new one, and I could not remember exactly how to get at it? I didn’t want to tear the cabinet of the washer all apart, so I found your video, and while it didn't provide quite the info I was looking for, it did help some. I would suggest leaving a bit of space between the washer and dryer, so if the washer has an unbalanced load, when it is in the spin cycle, it wont be banging against the dryer? Take care, hope you're doing well. Peace
My lid switch split apart the same way, it appeared I could stick it back together and it would keep working. I played with the it a little bit to see how the contacts worked inside and that mechanism looked a bit worn so I decided to replace the switch. The hardest part about replacing the switch is getting the wires unclipped from the side of the cabinet, you can barely reach your fingers in there. There was no way I could take the ground wire loose from the cabinet and then reattach it so I will probably cut it and splice it back together with the ground wire of the new switch.
you did not show taking the switch out and replacing it, That was the important part. also if you do not lift top cover had do you connect green ground wire. Hard to do reaching under, nearly imposable. Also, the switches on the older model 70 have a different connection than some after market.
man I have the same switch, same problem. when I was trying to get to it, it split in three. now there's a tiny spring and a contact piece that I don't know how to put back in. could you show the inside of this switch?
Not sure what the internals look like, but if you can’t get it sorted out, there’s a link to a replacement switch in the video description. It’s only $10

Glad I could help!
Awesome video. Very complete. Fixed ours just like you did. Washer is 21 years old and now going strong again, thanks!!!

Thanks for the video.
I used 4 small zip-ties to hold mine together.
My switch wasn't falling apart, but ultimately, it was the switch. Thanks for the video and for pointing out that this is an issue and what to target fixing.
Fixed my washer with a ziptie and five minutes of my time! Thank you!
Sweet. You’ve got to love the quick easy fixes.
A couple wraps of electrical tape here.
Same, 5 minutes and a ziptie.
Hey Thanks!!! I couldn't figure out how to get the control panel off until I found your video :D
Life saver!!! Thank you my son & I followed your instructions!! Worked perfectly, probably saved me $200
Cool! BTW, You're Beautiful, juss sayin. 😊

Thank you for making this video - mine was doing the EXACT same thing with the split. Used wire like you did and we're back in business!
Thanks for the video, you safe me 600 on a new washer. Bought the switch for $6.57 and sove the problem. Thanks Again.
just showing how it actually opens saved my life.. thanks so much..

We just completed the fix according to your instructions. Worked great! Thank you!
Thanks for your great video with so much help! Ended up fixing the problem myself after being directed to 'google it' or go on you tube! Cheers!

I love the quick fix . Of course I bought new part but that fix is good to know.
Wow! I had the same issue, thanks for posting this!
Thank you. I was able to fix my without paying any money to outsiders that always want to take advantage of women. Thanks again ❤
Omg thanks so much for sharing. I have the same washer and had the same problem but this fixed it!
Endless thank you for this video! followed it step by step and fixed it!
You’re the MAN! Fixed mine!
Thanks man. Fixed it no problem because of you. 👍
Thank you for the video. I fixed it just like you did. Very helpful video!
I have the exact same one with a different center mine is older I think I've had to replace the washer dogs the coupler and now the lid sensor
Can the switch just be removed without the wires and just plug in the new switch?
What capacity is that washing machine?
Thank you, Washing machine fixed!!!!

@@DustinRogersinMO thank you!
Is that a Jack Russell?
She was a rescue dog, so we’re not exactly sure.
