I’m very grateful tonight finding your video. I had already ordered the lid lock parts in Sept. Put the upper lid and lower base parts in myself. Works perfect! God bless you. ❤
Thank you so much! Because of your video, I was able to order the part and fix it myself! I'm sure you saved me close to $200 of a service call, part, and labor! So glad I found you!
You saved me a service call and $55 bucks... we took ours off to replace it and realized it was jammed. Unjammed it and it's working fine. Thank you! :)
Thanks for the video. I actually just had to pop part of the switch back into place and it started working again. I was able to fix it without buying a new part. The situation was my own fault because I forced the washer up when it was locked because the machine was shaking from being lopsided. I learned a very valuable lesson on why you should never do that. Your video saved me $1,000 from having to buy a new one. Keep doing what you do! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for this video. I suspected my lid switch was bad so I went looking for a how-to video on getting it out and yours was up high and perfectly simple. I didn't want to wait for a new part so when I got it out, I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts (center pin on my switch) and made necessary adjustments, reassembled and reinstalled. The washing machine is currently spinning on a test cycle. This machine still has a couple other issues but that's the big one down, thank you (again).
This is fantastic. Helped me diagnose the switch problem, which was exactly what was shown in the video. Ordered the part and my machine was working the next day.
Thanks! The first time, it was covered and they replaced it. This time was the exact issue you showed. It seems to be an ongoing issue with this switch for a lot of people. Thanks again!
Fantastic instructions.I was to have a guy come in for service call at. $200.00 tmrw,so watching your video I have now taken the lid lock out myself and see it is broken,Thankyou for saving me $200.00
Thanks for making this video. It was a perfect match for my problem. Your explanation was great and the hardest part was waiting 6 days for the part to arrive! I had the exact same problem with the part that you demonstrated, so I had the utmost confidence that replacing the part would fix the problem and it did. Thanks again.
Yay thank you! Just had a repair guy come today. $50 for diagnostic then another $200 just to replace the lid switch/labor. I was astounded! Called and canceled, will be doing it ourselves. This is our same washer too
We got the part for $28 from a local store. Took 2 minutes to replace. SOO EASY! Total $78 with part and diagnosis from a tech. Saved $178 from having it professionally fixed!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
THANK YOU! I knew I goofed up my switch after I slammed my lid since this machine beeps more than R2D2 and has it's own mind on what to do (yeah, I know, the mother board is prob going out). Your other vid took me through the steps. I actually took the switch apart and crazy glued the itty-bitty tab that drives the spring loaded shaft. It's the size of a grain of rice. No wonder it breaks. I put fresh tape around the exterior to keep out the water before re-installing and can at least run my machine while I order a new part. I run an Air BnB and can't have my machine down. You truly saved me!
Thank you so much for this video! I followed your instructions completely and I’ve learned my lesson and from now on, I will always close the lid gently! Thank goodness I was always by my late-husband side when we did repairs in the house! He helped me today too when I needed a screwdriver to pop off the switch cover! 😇
Thank you for your videos!!!! I saved $$$ and did not have to wait over a week for repairs! I was lucky ...my lid switch was in perfect condition but had come unplugged.
I was racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with my machine. Holy cow this did it! Thank you for the great video. Also love the pups cameo. 😊
Thank you so much for this repair video it is exactly what I needed to know how to replace this part. I just had the repairman out to replace a different part a week ago and was hoping on this repair I could do it myself. You saved me a couple hundred dollars and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much
Just wanted to say your video was a blessing to me, exact model and problem.. getting the part wasn't easy to find .. when I re-watched video I clicked the link you provided and there it was so I ordered it.. only wish I would have noticed that first before trying to get part local. but all went well got part and works great. G-d Bless you dear sir.
Thank you for making your videos!! This repair worked for me and was quick and easy. Hardest part was finding the part number and going to pick it up!!
Thanks for the video! Thought I was gonna have to take off the top of the washer to get to it (ugh), but your method was WAY faster. Only took a couple of minutes to put the lid lock in. Again, thanks!
Thank you so much. I have the top lifted up and couldn't figure out how to get the old switch out. I've worked on 2006 and up Whirlpool manufactured washers for years but these GE's are sure different in how they do things. I bought the switch and wiring used on eBay so hopefully, this will work. Cheers, and thanks again, Neill
thanks you saved me a service call it was so easy to do i talked to service man said you have to go to back of washer take out a lot of screws and tip the lid i saw your g i d h r thanks so much
Thank you for your excellent video, which has helped me several times. I bought the washing machine new in 2017. The switch first failed in 2021. Out of curiosity, I actually took the switch apart and cleaned out some green corrosion on a copper contact. (It was an extremely complicated electro-mechanical device.) That fixed it for about 6 months. It failed again, as I expected it would, and I got a new replacement switch to fix it. Now, 2 years later in 2024 the replacement has failed. I luckily bought two more spares last time so I had one to put right in. The bad one I took out was all wet, so I think the water splashing from the wash gets into the switch to corrode it. That is a very poor design. There doesn't seem to be a good way to wrap it in a plastic covering since it has to be open for the door latch. Although the washing machine works well, when I use up my last switch I think I'll get a different brand machine. It's too bad they all use a microprocessor these days, enabling them to be able to use computer logic to lock them, instead of like old school types that had no lock at all. I never hurt myself using a washing machine in the 60 years I've been doing it!
Thank you for this video! I found out how to get fault codes and it had a few related to the door lock. I found your video and we were able to get the part we needed and install it.
GREAT video!!! Had similar problems. Switch was broken JUST as you showed. Ordered a new one from Amazon.( May not be GE, but oh well. will see) Thanks again!!!
You actually cannot jump the wires for the lid switch. I tried it and it will stop your washer and kick a code if the lid is not opened after 3 cycles.
Thank you didn't know how to remove the switch, i had one of my boys get the switch wet looking for his wallet in the washer and the washer wouldn't lock ...just keep clicking --- never locking...i followed your directions removed the switch and checked the springs it seemed fine...stuck the switch on my dehumidifier and dried it out for about 30 minutes...put it back in and switch started working again...thanks again
Thanks for sharing -- broke mine while troubleshooting an agitator issue (needed a new belt), replaced the lid switch today -- but after running a whole successful wash cycle, now my washer won't open. No idea what I'll do next!
I just read a comment below stating you're Jimmy the car guy... I new it was you the minute I saw your face and heard your voice.... I just watch you replace LED bulbs. HaHaHa Todays price for that part from GE is $99. Let's keep printing money?????
My lid lock started acting up (turning on and off for and beginning of cycle), then washer would not start. I removed it, one prong looked corroded. I sanded it and scraped it with needle nose pliers. I put it back and now it works
THIS WORKED JUST THIS AFTERNOON! the white cap doesn't fit the replacement cap but the door closes and locks withtout it, it's just a little less smooth closing but i assume that will help with being more delicate about opening/closing the door... sad that General Electric makes such purposefuly delicate and fragile machines that it completely shut down just because of a lid lock...
What do you recommend doing if the replacement part still will not make the lid lock? My washer will atleast run now but still will not do the spin part of the cycle. Thanks!
I have the same machine as your showing. When I tried starting the machine on a load, the lid locked light started blinking. Nothing works.Would that most likely be the lid switch?
our washing machine seems to do the whole wash cycle but will not spin and drain.. the we have to do a spin and drain cycle and some times it works.. but I have stayed down for a while spin and drain cycle and it seems to lock and unlock many many many time. do u think thats what it is the lock switch??
Are you saying that the other plastic arm should also move out like the other one that is spring loaded? Is that the bottom line? Is that the test that one can rely on that will indicated a bad door switch if the either on doesn't bounce back or perhaps the other way indicating that that door won't unlock, it's opposite. I have one that has stayed locked.
I don't understand why everyone does this the hard way with a screw driver or even a putty knife, there should be enough room between the tub and the top to get your hand under there and just pop the tabs ( careful you pop that last one it shoots off like a spring )

Hi again. I've got a question you may be able to answer or offer some suggestion on what to try. I have GE washer that's really acting weird. After plugging it in all the lights come on on the instrument panel after maybe 20 secs. I'm not touching any buttons after plugging it in. I did try a motor reset which didn't help.. After about 20 sec. all the lights start flashing. Lifting the lid up they all go solid again but 20 sec. later they go into flashing mode again. Closing the lid they go solid for 20 seconds and then go back to flashing. It seems the be connected with the lid lock but I wonder what you think? I hate to spend money on a new switch only to find out it's not causing the issue. I found calling this machine every name in the book didn't help.
Wen i push start it lights up but no water comes out. All the powers buttons light up green but no water comes out every thing is plugged on. I have done the troubleshoot unplug for 2 minutes and it resets but still nothing. Wen my hubby checked the with flash light inside the drum the lock switch was off.. Could it be that that needs to be replaced
How do I get to my washer belt it needs to be replaced & I think I better fix the part to drain washer to, I wash having a lil bit if an issue w-that be4 my belt went out it's a GE washer
Where do you order the part from? GE directly or another source?
Under my video I have an Amazon store with the parts. The parts are OEM . Here is the store link.www.amazon.com/shop/jimthecarguy
