I ended up buying one of these in the A-Spec SH-AWD package and I've enjoyed every second of it. The backseat room is definitely tight but I don't need/use it ever and I do wish the transmission was a little more responsive. Overall though I love the car and your review is very on point as well
@@Sleepyboiwonder , I have a 2013 TSX wagon and I can tell you that the back seat is also very tight. Still, it’s a beautiful car with great performance. I love my TSX sport wagon.
@@Sleepyboiwonder I'd say compared to the G2 TSX, this G2 TLX has a just little more leg room, about the same head room, and much more shoulder/hip space.

The car looks amazing. Having driven Honda/Acura products for 40 years, I have never had one in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance, and that why I will stick with Acura. I'm also happy that they have decided to compete more directly with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo with a more performance-oriented vehicle, though the quality is more important to me. Very excited about this car. Your review was on point.
Great review Matt! I 💯% agree! Thanks! Beth did really like the TLX but she's likely going to an SUV for her next lease in 1.5 years. Right now she has her eye on a GLB, she's still a big Mercedes fan haha.
I'm so sick of crappy factory tires on new cars that are quite expensive, unfortunately it's an "everybody does it" thing in the auto industry. I know it means an extra .02 mpg for them in the EPA/CAFE cycle but god there are so many GOOD all-seasons out there for those customers that don't want to deal with switching back and forth between summer and winter tires.
Honestly, I would take this over any German competitor in this segment just by virtue of it being unique and having more personality. A G70 3.3T or a Stinger GT might be tempting compared to this for their extra power, and a Giulia might offer even more zest in the driving experience than this does, but this is easily in my top 3 for this segment. Wipes the floor with the IS and the Q50.
So it's bigger, heavier, slower, FWD-based, horrible mpg, has a slow-ass transmission, and has a smaller back seat, and a smaller trunk than a 3 Series -- and you would still this?
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow so if you don't know it's rwd bias under power, is not better handling and is completely numb. A 330 maybe be slightly quicker. @@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow the TLX has more total leg & shoulder room, and larger trunk space than a 3-series. It's much bigger in width, sits lower, and it looks waaaaaay better because of it. @@TheBreakfastLover This is funny. Sounds like being 300 pounds heavier is something good. BTW in the real world (not the one paid by Acura) performance wise BMW 330 will destroy this car and M340 will destroy the upcoming type-S.

Great review Matt. I've watched your channel since your Subaru WRX Fan days and your reviews and channel have matured, just as (hopefully) the boy racers who used to crowd around your channel back in the day. BTW, glad that you resisted the temptation to put a "?" at the end of the title like so many RUclips reviewers. No question, it's a home run.

Hi Chase, thanks for giving the channel another chance. I regret doing the go fund me, which is why I don't do RUclips "memberships", Patreons, etc like others do these days. Regarding the video changes, I have seen an improvement. The interior reviews don't get as many views as the driving videos do, but it's extra views I wouldn't have otherwise because the views on the driving videos are still consistent. It's also grown my female viewership slightly. I'm glad you like the new format, and thanks again for watching!
I completely agree with the statement that the Honda/Acura does more with the tire it has than does the G70. I have both G70 and 2012 Accord. Put the Pilot Sport 4 on the Accord, and it handles as well if not BETTER than the G70 with the same tires. Put Goodyear Comfortred on both, and the Accord feels stable and will work with it to the limit, but the G70 will wallow all over the highway at 70mph, scary! Honda knows what they are doing with wringing the most out of FWD-based platform. The G70 is flawless with the Pilot Sport 4 but does not seem to tolerate lesser tires.
Thanks, Matt! I hope to buy myself one of these at some point. First, I need to buy my wife something and then it's my turn. We'll see what's available at that point, but I did love the car when I saw it in person over the weekend.
I would of never thought that weighs over 4000lbs. My Loaded FULL SIZE Impala weighs 3500lbs. Talk about a great Road car that cuts through Corners like a knife through butter. :)

They did that to try and hide the fact that it's still a FWD based car, to make it look RWD. Well they failed at that. It came out really goofy looking. That said it's a huge improvement otherwise, especially the interior. This and the new MDX prove that Acura is finally putting in some effort.

The handling impressions and tire comments sound a lot like Alex on Autos. I drove an A-Spec FWD when it first hit my dealership. Liked it but didn’t love it. Handled better than my 19 3.5 PAWS but definitely not as quick. The larger exterior dimensions would make it a tricky proposition for my garage.
I actually like this color but it only available in Graystone color interior which I scared it will pick up lots of stain from jeans and maybe will not age well with crack.
I am crushing HARD on this new TLX. Bought a 2020 2.0T Sport Accord in July but am really interested in this if I can swing the payments. Love the Accord but this exterior styling and interior cabin really resonates with me. Matt, do you think it is worth the price difference to go from what I have to this TLX (Advance Package)?
Matt…I’ll be getting my TLX in February and am wondering what would you put your individual settings on if you were driving the Advance in a city environment if you could?
The Advanced package is $47300 vs Technology package $42500. Is it worth it to pay $5k different for the Advanced package ? Thanks for putting up this video.
Thanks for watching! It all depends on whether you want most of the stuff in the Advanced package. On Acura's website they list out everything the Advanced package includes.
One can get a Genesis G70 3.3T Advanced for $40k OTD new with negotiation. The vehicle might be slightly smaller but I would argue the powertrain and handling are going to be superior to the TLX. For Acura you're paying $50k for a turbo 4 banger. I would imagine the TLX Type S with a turbo 6 would be a better comparison to the 2022 G70 refresh that is to come which is getting the 3.5TT 400hp/400 lb tq. But I imagine the Type S will be $60k while the G70 refresh will be $50k.
Any information out there about crash test/safety ratings? There's nothing on the websites for IIHS or NHTSA yet. I know that Acura has advertised and stressed the safety features, but there are no independent reviews yet.
The Genesis G70 3.3L twin turbo has a much bigger engine, almost +100hp/+100lb torque than Acura TLX 2.0L turbo. Hence, it needs better tires to avoid wheel slip.
anyone who has taken one of those smart key fobs apart to replace the battery know how small and slim the actual electronics part is and how much fat and wasted space the plastic shell takes up. those things could be so much smaller and thinner but I guess they want to make sure they stand out.
Want a TypeS, but CA gas is $6/gal. You find LKAS useful? I agree the ACC is beautiful on my Civic, but LKAS is worse than useless: it rarely sees road edges and often deactivates, even while in the speeds it should be on. So you Can't use it and trust the sensors. Honda needs to include the Advance tech on the TypeS. Why is the top car missing all the sensor & suspension goodies? H needs to buy the magnetic shocksnfrom GM and add cylinder deactivation for Eco modes. This car is thirsty enough. Tesla's Autopilot is THE best, but the Honda ACC is quite good. Love it in stop & go. Far better than my Camry, where it Won't function below 26mph.
It looks nice, but the interior is way too busy for my taste. I much prefer the simplicity of the Mazda 6 or even the new kia K5. Also, I am underwhelmed by the 4cyl's performance, which is obviously hampered by the weight of the car.
Have an rlx.too bad they will discontinue.the old tsx merged with tl.... and was smaller than tl.the new tlx may be same size of former tl.the new tlx doesn't have a CD player and mirrors do not fold when parked.
Dude I know I was pissed but I have hope. Now I’m thinking the type s will have various packages because it says pricing for it starts low 50k so maybe you can option it up. If not then very lame.
I love Acura interior design but 2 things that kept Acura from threatening the likes of BMW and Mercedes: 1) Acura exterior design is cold and industrial instead of organic and emotional. Luxury products are emotional buys so until Acura fixes this, they won't steal much market share from the above mentioned big boys. 2) Front wheel drive - there's a reason why most sports sedans are RWD.
If the TLX does well, after a few years Acura will change its name to GDX or SPH or whatever to confuse the consumer and ensure that any tradition or legacy cannot grow around a nameplate. Just like it did with Legend and Integra.
@Christopher's Perspective Loved it when Acura just did its own thing and didn't try to copy the Germans - in fact, back in the day Acura sold more Legends a year (abt 55k) that Mercedes or BMW sold all of their models (60-70k). Whoever told Acura to go 'European' down to the alphanumeric names was an idiot. Or, maybe that was their point.

Matt - Acura TLX or Cadillac CT4-V? Thanks!
Want to see a v6. I really hate big cars with small turbo engines. I will cry if acura stops making v6 engines in sedans. Type S should be incredible
Hey Matt. How do you compare the driving experience with this car vs the Accord (say, the top of the line Accord)? Thanks!
I would like to see this in comparison with the Cadillac CT5 AWD. Seem to have a similar strategy.
Now we're talking acura!!!
Uh....yeah
Made in Japan? Not sure it will be on my list given it is FWD based though.
Still excellent car.
I still drive 2012 TSX made in Japan.
No issues at all!
He praised the RDX shifting more. Why is TLX transmission not the same as the RDX?
How can it be considered in the compact class when it's such a big car now?
You had me at "hips" 😂😂
I’m all for the type S next year
Want a TypeS, but CA gas is $6/gal.
Far better than my Camry, where it Won't function below 26mph.
how is the visibility with the rear headrests?
The Michelin Primacy A/S are trash. Noisy at highway speeds. Handle just ok. Anyone have any recommendations for better tires on the tlx?
Is this more comfortable than an accord touring?
What about tge double wishbone suspension for handling
We need a stick shift type s
1:17 is it lens distortion or negative camber?
Matt are we going to get a review on the GMC Hummer EV when ever you get the chance?
Sure I’d love to if I get the opportunity.
It looks nice, but the interior is way too busy for my taste. I much prefer the simplicity of the Mazda 6 or even the new kia K5. Also, I am underwhelmed by the 4cyl's performance, which is obviously hampered by the weight of the car.
How is the Road noise and cabin noise?
Do you think the front wheel drive would be faster?
I live in TX. Don't need awd. I'm buying next week. Fwd though
Jimmy R I thought I saw a review that said it “felt” faster. Congrats! What color and package?
@@Sleepyboiwonder White, tech package
It could be faster, but it also might struggle to put down power. The Accord 2.0T is already a bit of a burnout machine haha.
Thing looks pretty sharp except for the credit card they glued on the grille
Could you review a Porsche Taycan Turbo S?
Have an rlx.too bad they will discontinue.the old tsx merged with tl.... and was smaller than tl.the new tlx may be same size of former tl.the new tlx doesn't have a CD player and mirrors do not fold when parked.
Wow this car looks good
🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵congrats! Looks stunning! 😎😎👍
Damn Matt acura should give you one
Шикарный автомобиль!!!
That delay in power will make you double think your lane passing maneuver lol...
Type S will not be loaded. They ruined the trim options. So Type S is a stripped down version of this based on lower equipped A-Spec. So sad
Dude I know I was pissed but I have hope. Now I’m thinking the type s will have various packages because it says pricing for it starts low 50k so maybe you can option it up. If not then very lame.
I love Acura interior design but 2 things that kept Acura from threatening the likes of BMW and Mercedes:
1) Acura exterior design is cold and industrial instead of organic and emotional. Luxury products are emotional buys so until Acura fixes this, they won't steal much market share from the above mentioned big boys.
2) Front wheel drive - there's a reason why most sports sedans are RWD.
Then Cadillac shows up with 472 and 668 hp CT4-V and CT5-V for slight more money than 355hp Type-S!
v6 direct injection vtec engine growl sound way better on my 2013 TL than this 4 banger!
I love Tue new TLX.
Damn, I love hips but I’ll prob get the redesigned MDX instead. :)
This car looks great very elegant build by Honda unfortunaly not available in Europe but why Honda ? 👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
