I'm guessing hanging out with toy galaxy was lucrative then! Glad you're getting cool sponsors now buddy!
The cereal shower in the background really had me going, nice touch for a sponsored segment!
Love the little bit of je ne sais Townsend Coleman in that ad read
i would get magic spoon but they dont ship to oz
The telegram reply that I got is it a scam from some impersonating you? I never win anything lol
I feel like Thew is the Toy Reviewer who could talk about literally anything and make it interesting which shows how good he is at this. Keep Up The Good Work!!
True that and that's why he in no specific order he is in my five favorite transformers reviewers
There are some toy reviewers I watch first and foremost for the toy being reviewed. But for Thew, I watch him for Thew first and toy second
@@dethkruzer i sometimes forget that he is reviewing figures and I mostly watch him because he is just to dang entertaining
The anti perspectiveend
Man could record himself eating a sandwich and we’d all watch it
that moment Beast Wars is almost about robot Batman fighting against robot Killer Croc.
And is instead about robot Gorilla Grodd beefing with robot dinosaur statue from the Batcave.
Never in my life have I needed a non-modern toy as much as I need Snapper, what an absolute boi
I hope they make a skold from it, she was great in the comics
I really hope they reissue it
Fun note, the flipchanger Primal gets a callback in Gorilla Primal. He has twin scimitars just like the first, and his "mutant head" feature is a bat mask.
I’ve never put a figure in my wishlist faster than Snapper. What a guy.
I feel that. The beast wars basic line was easily just as enjoyable as what became the mainline team.
Yep
Gav's TRDQ made a great case for him, too. I highly recommend his video.
Some motherfucker at my daycare stole mine. I would do horrible things for a reissue
Thew did gloss right over Snapper having the same cloacal clavicles as Terrorsaur, but it’s not like that makes him less endearing.
What I think helps Terrorsaur's popularity is that he was basically the Beast Wars version of Starscream. He has similar upturned wings, had a notable episode where he tried to kill Megatron to take over, and the yellow scale details on the tail even act as a stand-in for the cockpit chest
A descendant of ol’ Screamer himself, mayhaps?
I owned both Terrorsaur and Hydra as a kid and honestly they were some of my favorite of the smaller beast wars toys growing up, not sure what Thew is on about them they were fun to play with back in the day.
After first getting into transformers with G2 the possibility on these BW toys blew kid me away.
"a man in a bat-themed costume" that's kinda the whole Beast Wars vibe lol
Razorbeast is a character I will always love just because of his use in "The Gathering" graphic novel. Blackarachina will always be my favorite Beast Wars character because she was my first TF toy, but Razorbeast is not far behind her on my list of all time favorite bots.
The gathering was such a great book. Off to go find my copy...
Considering we’re getting Tasmania Kid I am praying for a Generations Razorbeast mold, though admittedly I have the give the priority to Randy so we can have a version that doesn’t disintegrate from a slight breeze.
After thinking about it for a bit, it kind of makes sense to have one Maximal and one Predacon from this initial group of figures to make it into the cartoon. To have that bit of early representation.
It does help spread the main cast among class sizes. Like you really do have the big two with the big toys, some deluxes, and then a little basic guy on each. Though I do think between the two Rattrap was the better match because he is the little sneaky guy and he has a little sneaky toy
Right, if they couldn't fit every character into the show, they could at least send a message of "Every size is worth buying."
The neat thing about Megs as a Croc is that it's a perfect beast-mode choice for a leader (that isn't extinct); I mean, ever seen how big crocs can get? Just make the mold bigger, and he'll have a perfect silhouette to dominate his team.
I totally expected the Pumbaa bit but yeah I still laugh.
The joy of watching a Thew Toy Review.
Just makes me wish there was a basic class meerkat Maximal.
Fun fact:
Snapper and Bat Primal were turned into Skold and Nyx in the Beast Wars comic made by IDW... not the original but the second one.
Love this review! Also the Magic Spoon sponsorship felt very much like a cereal commercial back in the 80s/90s for the modern era, in the best way possible lol
Easily the two most underloved Beast War figures. Dying to get a reissue of these guys. Growing up i loved the idea of a G1 character beast war arc. I love that beast wars toy line has a sizeable chunk of G1 named figures to compliment this idea. Still waiting on my lazerbeak terrorsaur figure repaint.
The main reason Rattrap made it in to the basics class was so we had a main character there on the hood guys side along with terrorsaur. Compared to now it’s weird how that works.
I seriously think these kind of flip changers should be a staple of ever TF line. Fast and simple for play on the go, with no need to call for awkward timeouts every time someone needs to change modes.
Loved seeing you on the Pulse con stage! You looked great and came off charming, in my opinion. The visible nervousness and your, if you’ll pardon the term, pluckiness in the face of it was impressive.
This gave you a sort of sincere relatability one cannot fake. I hope you have a long and lovely relationship with Hasbro.
Thank you for all the sweet, sweet content.
I'd genuinely be into a voyager alligator Megs.
11:04 Minor gripe, but that's not Hydra. That's the cheesily-named Lazorbeak, a high-flying sky pirate who debuted in 1997. The actual Beast Wars Neo Hydra has a lot more silver, which gives the mould far more presence.
2:13 Thew showering in "Magic Spoon" has actually, finally, gotten me to order some.
Fun fact about RazorBeast; there was also a Nerf blaster of the same name that was also warthog themed. It was crank action like a gatling gun
“Sarchosuchus seeker stomach”
This is why we love you, Thew. Just casually dropping a beautiful elaborate description like that. :)
These guys ruled. One step changers nowadays wish they had the posability and were as clean as these guys,
This is a total nostalgia trip for me. As a 90s kid, the Beast Wars line was my introduction to Transformers.
Oh my god! The Bat/Croc set was one of my first Beast Wars toys i ever had! And the majority of these figures were the bulk of my early transformers experience. 🥺❤️
Always love when you delve into an era I missed and learn about toys I never once handled!
This video reminds me of how we need toys of Nyx and Skold from the late IDW Beast Wars comics, taken too soon...
These Beast Wars basics, along with pretty much the whole line to be fair were peak toy play toys. Simple AF transformation made for great fluent play and their insane amount of movement lead to some proper meaty and dynamic fights!! Those days are missed.
Yoo! I remember watching JTMitchel87 review the Megs and Primal waaay back in the day! Always thought they were cool. Thanks for bringing me back to the good old days Thew😂
Had all of these lads as a kid and man, what excellent toys for a little man
I remember being so anxious one early Sunday afternoon rolling back and forth in my bed bored out of my skull. I begged my mother to take me to the mall and she did bless her heart when we had all of eleven dollars between us. I saw this Beast Wars Primal Vs Megs two pack for $9.99 at Hills and picked it up. $10.69 with tax. I walked out with my only two BW figures I got as a kid along with 31 cents in change. It even came with a mini comic book!
How is this video only 8 hours old? I have already rewatched this around 20 times
The blurred background sequence of you pouring cereal all over your face is worth everything. SPOOOOOOON!
Great reviews, reminds me of the day I got Insecticon from Argos and fell in love with Beast Wars. The BWII/Machine Wars jets are also fun flip changers
I had almost all these as a kid. When you said “I didn’t even know it had a weapon” I instantly knew it was Snapper 😂. I still have my Rasorbeast but he’s missing a limb and a gun. One day…
I grew up with Snapper! He's one of my favorites for sure, his shell texture is really nice in-hand.
Razorbeast is now unironically one of my favorite characters
Ayyyye Thew is finally getting sponsored?! It’s about damn time somebody gave him a sponsorship! He’s been working too hard for as long as he has to not have had one by now!
Congrats Thew!
I love these basic Beast Wars figures. Been collecting them since BW: The Gathering comic series. The beast modes may be simple, but I like the spring-loaded auto transformation into a highly articulated robot. The weapons integration is really great at keeping everything together in both modes.
Man.
Oh.
MAN!
You may as well have taken me running at 88mph because this sent me back in time to better days.
You rock, Thew. Thank you. Truly.
Ads for cereal whenever I’m trying to watch Transformers? Now this is an authentic experience!
Ah I remember when I grabbed Rattrap and my cousin picked up Razorbeast for a fiver a pop before the show came out in the UK and then he was pissed when Razorbeast wasn't in it.
Shame you didn't have BW Insecticon on hand though, that one did the flip-change gimick well.
Love the love for classic BW stuff.
Loving the new setup man and also see you got an Armada Prime too, aiming at the camera in the background there😁
The bat and crocodile beast wars basics for the first transfotmers toys i ever owned. I think i was 4 or 5 years old. Ive now retired from collecting but those two guys for what started my collection career. Im pretty sure my aunt bought them for me lol.
Oh man, I remember having Armordillo and Snapper as a kid. They both had the giant claws so I would just have them wail on each other.
Thanks for doing this video, brought back some fond memories.
I didn’t know they used to be a bat and a crocodile. I appreciate the added knowledge
"An overgrown child forced to live as an adult." That's your next T-shirt, Thew.😂
I bought these two back when they first came out, back when they were advertising for a 'brand new' series called Beast Wars. Makes me wish they'd give these two a good, modern release. And yes, I know, they did with a TR Mindwipe/TR Skullcruncher recolor/remould for a special thing once, but I said a _good_ modern release.
I loved these figures growing up, despite not having many of them, to this day I still want Snapper.
Do love these lads. I need a Razorbeast. I got the Randy and Crazybolt two pack a while back and Randy nearly survived 1 transformation.
Love the new venue, congratulations on managing to not just move but be on the move. I still have my beasties PrePrimal and MidMegs on bubble card. I thought they were going to be the tiny models of what was to come but look where we are and look where they are.
I like the idea that Snapper is a Predacon, but one who's affably evil. Like, chill dude off the clock, juggernaut on the battlefield.
While I was never into Beast Wars...I cannot deny that these guys are great. Who doesn't love some clever auto change and crafty weapon storage. Love em!!!
I got the Original Crocodile Megatron figure off eBay and I love him!!!
Phrases like "sarcosuchus seeker stomach" are why you're the absolute king. I love it! Always a pleasure to watch!
Razorbeast is such a little guy, I'd be all over that if I'd ever seen him going for a decent price
I actually tried a magic spoon promo through a Twitch streamer a while back. It's not cheap, but pretty decent stuff. I got the Megatron croc basic back in the day from a friend who didn't want it. He only wanted batimus prime
I’ve also had Snapper for years, and just now realized that I too have his gun! You learn something new every day…
They should make these little guys as core classes in the modern day.
Thew was right, I did know about the bat and the croc, but you know what I didn’t know? That they were automorphers, or that there were so many of them, or the amazing weapon storage! I wrote these guys off because I saw images of what the toys were, but thanks to Thew giving them some love I now want to seek them out. What a guy.
This review was tons of fun. Hope you do more beast era stuff, given that was the era I grew up in.
Optibat and Megaligator should get updates. Make 'em new characters but definitely make 'em again.
I’ve had Armordillo since about 2018/19, and it’s certainly a treat to have him as part of my Maximal squad. He just slinks right in the gaps, making a solid Brawn-alike for a squad who always seems underprepared to fight. Like yeah, Primal’s loaded to the tooth, but then all the Deluxe boys have a awkward gimmick weapon for each, and Rattrap has ONE gun. They need a dedicated brawler
Thew doing a commercial for breakfast cereal just feels right
didn't take me as long as you, but I had a similar experience when I bought a loose Snapper earlier this year. That gun storage is just immaculate.
Love the video.
I prefer crocodile Megatron myself and bat Primal since he wasn't wearing an Optimus Prime helmet.
I'd have preferred any character but Rattrap to make it into the show. I despise that headsculpt along with his grating voice and personality in the cartoon.
Terrorsaur is my favourite of these guys. I like his G1 styled head and his Starscream-like portrayal in the show.
I see him and his repaints, Hydra, Lazorbeak and Fractyl as the Beast Era version of the Seekers.
Again, love the video.
4:05 TIL why Primal's swords have that unique shape; they were designed to hide at the end of bat wings! They just kept them that way when they made him into a gorilla.
Ok Thew, how many takes did it take to nail "sarcasucus stomach". Delivered brilliantly
I've only tentatively delved into the Beast Wars line with some Transmetals, a reissue, and a Universe 2003 redeco, but these guys do look fun. Might get some of the no-show characters if I can find them on the cheap.
“Frilled to be here” is fantastic
You are SO right that Armordillo is the best of these. I had him and loved him as a kid!
I loved that Primal/Megatron two-pack so much. It came with a spiffy little comic too.
7:43 - Wow, that's surreal. I wonder why Razorbeast of all critters?
"I've decided they're related. It's canon now."
Makes as much sense as (or maybe more than?) Rattrap being related to Arcee.
"(Concealed weapon-storage) is the ESSENCE of Transformers!"
Which is why we get frustrated when we don't see it on MODERN figures; Beast Wars SPOILED us. lol
14:28 - Okay, I wasn't sold on the assessment of Snapper not being a baddie when you were talking about his robot mode, but there he is; he's a good guy because he is Gamera, friend of children!
I forgot you moved and was super jarred by a different camera angle. Awesome video!
I was not prepared for that Fresh Prince clip XD
Imagine the universe where these were the cast of the cartoon.
I still have my Armordillo and Snapper. Unfortunately over the years I lost Armordillos weapon feet, but I still love both to those guys.
That turtle boy definitely jumped ship to the maximals
I was today years old when I learned that these were automorphers and that the line extended beyond Primal and Megatron.
I have been enabled on Razorbeast.
I already wanted _a_ Razorbeast, because IDW's _The Gathering_ and _The Ascending_ are my jam, but I was holding out for a Legacy one. Now I am perfectly willing to settle for the original.
I think all of these guys I still have look perfectly at home rounding out my Kingdom/Legacy BW ranks, they're still top notch for what they are. I love that Snapper's cute factor bled over to the Snapper-inspired comic character Skold. And if you were impressed by Snapper's weapon storage, Insecticon's can blow you away. A crossbow formed from two parts that store under his hard beetle wings, brilliant stuff.
This was noice little vid for final vid for September.
You had me at right before your cereal promo, then I just kept scrolling 😂😂😂😂😂
The only proper Beast Wars ive got is a reissue Retrax (who needs unicron, this is the orbular man for me). But this video makes me wish I had a few more. They seem like great fun
You know, i think that hasbro could make core class versions of these designs and they would sell pretty well.
Insection was always my fav of these guys feel he had the best transformation and weapon storage
Rattrap being in the main cast gets even weirder when you realize he made the most spotlight episodes in the first season.
You need to get your hands on Insecticon, the one other early Beast Wars flipformer. He's my favorite of the flipformers.
Thew, I suggest you check out Insecticon from series/wave 2. Great looking figure with a fun weapon storage. Still my favorite basic.
Fun fact Razorbeast was a main character in the 2006 Beast Wars comic by IDW.
Ironically I couldn't find a complete Snapper at TFN! Out of all of them, I just love the design so much.
Terrorsaur is my jam! Admittedly, he isn't good but he was the first transformer I ever had so he will always have a place in my heart
I still really miss the era of Basics , and scouts. Fun little affordable articulate figures with great weapons/accessories for about what a Core class costs now. Auto transform is surprisingly well engineered for as old as these are. Really want that Megatron now. Rat Trap I feel was Transformers Rocket Racoon before most people knew who Rocket the Racoon even was.
Core is pretty much just new scouts at this point, if maybe just slightly littler. Wish we had more of them, though.
I wanna see the raw footage of Thew pouring cereal all over himself
Rattrap only gets cooler once you find out he's the great-nephew of G1's Arcee... there are many wonderful nods to the original series in Beast Wars, but that one little throw-away comment is one of my favourites! 😆
Also, I now have a dire need to find a Snapper... Ebay, don't fail me now!
Still to this day, these Beast Wars basics remain one of my favorite class of toys! That includes the basics that came in the next year (the ones without the flip transformation). I really wish Hasbro would use these toys as an example to design new figures for newer series Earthspark, like they did with the Activators in Transformers Animated.
I never had the original Gorilla Primal and T-Rex Megs as a kid, but I was so happy when I got these two. I always liked that comic they came with. Once I got my hands on their Transmetal counterparts in my head canon Bat Primal and Croco Megs faced off in a final showdown, which almost destroyed both their bodies so they had to upgrade themselves and also get new beast modes at the same time.
Kinda the same story applies to Razorbeast - I never found Rattrap in a store, but I got Razorbeast, who became my Rattrap substitute on my Maximal team. Cybershark played the role of Dinobot (because the robot head has those sharp teeth like Dinobot has on the show).
Never has a man sold Magic Spoon to me so well, people should just hire thew for adverts, it wiuld absolutelly hilarious to see him pop up on the BBC or ITV outta kowhere to sell you some lenor or somethin
Got me dumpin' out boxes of my old figures looking for these guys now. They're still great figures, but I do wish we could get some more BW in Legacy. Core/Deluxe Snapper and Razorbeast would be amazing!
Our boy has the sponsors, it’s the big time!
