- I was a big fan of the original animated series, Beast Wars Transformers, as a kid I would watch it every day. However, I never actually owned any of the toys until much later, and up till now, it was only a Basic original figure. Now with the resurgence of the series making the mainline and getting a film inspired by the series, new reissue vintage toys have also come out. This was my chance to get Optimus Primal and Megatron on their original molds. In this, I will open and see how well they are.

I love how all-inclusive this toy is. It has enough gimmicks to fill a Wave, and it's all stored flawlessly in one pretty posable figure.

I remember watching Beast Wars, or "Beasties" on YTV, and one time getting the dinobot Happy Meal toy. I got Rampage and it was my favorite toy ever. I slowly lost all his legs and finally lost the figure. My memories of Rampage and the old toys I used to have reinvigorated my collecting lately with Generations.
When YTV was actually good 😭
I watched Beast Wars for the first time last year, and holy crap, still holds up, the story, characters and theme is the best Transformers media I have ever seen.
I managed to get Prime for $20 CAN on clearance, and after seeing this review, I pulled the trigger on Megatron for 30%off at BBTS. Cool review by way. Fun, and can tell you enjoy doing them. Cheers
These were from a time when toys were *toys*, not posable figures designed to look good in a shelf. These were meant to be tossed from a playground slide because you thought the power of make-belief would actually let them fly. Granted, that also means they had a very short shelf life compared to the posable figures (since you're constantly playing with them) but I feel more right walking around the house with Primal here in my hands than one of the newer models. These things were the reason my generation never needed fidget spinners.
Optimus Primal still holds up today, if it weren’t for the lack of ankle pivot he’d have basically as much as average voyagers and leaders!
I picked these up a few months back. I like to play with my TF's with my 5 year old. I feel they hold up extremely well. I have a mix of older Reissues and newer toys filling out my Beast Wars ranks. They are all really fun.
Ever since my childhood, I've had a recurring theme on my dreams: going to toy stores and seeing them carry all sorts of Transformers from all series, but Beast Wars is the most common one as I absolutely LOVED those toys.
The first wave never got here, only as KOs and while I did have Primal and Megatron(and Cheetor, Rattrap and I still have a headless Dinobot), I never got the originals. I only ever got the Anniversary Megatron, but now, I can literally see my dream come true, Walmart Mexico, please, PLEASE stock these, I can and will order this online if they aren't stocked on shelves, but man...if I were to actually see these in person at a store...I might even cry.

These toys are cool, but they make me want the updated ones. I'm happy for those that missed out. I had more of the transmetals growing up and missed a lot of the beast wars figures first forms. So getting the kingdom megatron and primal is great for me. But i'm happy for those that had these toys and they broke or missed out. something for everyone.
When bw was created, I was not born, I really want a figure of Primal.
Made my way here from another Transformers channel. I think it was beastman Review. Was watching a beast wars vid and yours started playing after. I miss these things...
I always hear people complaining that the swords don’t hold in well, but I noticed something:
They hold in fine, it’s just when you rotate the waist to get between modes, it can bump the sword and push it out of place. It’s a clearance issue rather than loose pegs
I had the Bat and Crocodile versions as a teen, but finally bought the Gorilla version of Optimus Primal for $20.00 today.
this is about as close to the original US boxart and coloring and size as i can remember. The show has a lot of heart too, right up there with TFPrime as far as I'm concerned

We have both of the original ones. And honestly these are still very much worth it. The current main line transformers are great but not really for kids. These are way better for the young due to the gimmicks.
I had these two figures and they are very solid and fun! And the designs are pretty nice for 90's toys. I love them. I just regret that Primal is too big for Megatron.
As a kid gimmicks were great when they worked. That Primal gimmick is sweet! Definitely most bang for buck. Plus missiles have to fire at least a foot or they are a fail. I think I watched this show as a kid. I remember it being on. I’m sure I thought it was a knock off until they visited the Ark and the real Transformers were there…”Does Hasbro know their product is making a cameo?” I think I finally paid attention to the lire it was building then. I had a problem with them transforming into animals and beasts but I’m sure it was just the indoctrination talking. I still think the “Maximize!” And “Terrorize!” Chant is goofy. It’s Transform…silly beast bots. I resisted and resisted Kingdom figures until Hasbro made me buy Grimlock(Dinobot repaint) to get Earth mode Mirage and Skywarp (which looks like freaking awesome eagle, Go USA!) to go with Sideswipe. Now I have picked up Primal and Cheetor. I really want too many more: Ravage, Tigatron, Waspinator…. Dang Beast Wars rabbit hole! But I have to admit 12 year me if comparing original Optimus to Beast Wars would find me playing with Primal more. The thing in his trailer fired missiles right? Anyway. Great review.
The beast wars figures have aged a hell of alot better then the G1 figures

Now that I'm in my 30's, I absolutely adore the OG toys. They were big and chunky and felt playable. I'm not a huge fan of the kingdom version. If I want accuracy, I would go for the masterpiece.

I’m a person who lovvves transformers and grew up with bay verse though I will never watch those movies again I just think their awful buy any how I love beast wars and now a days at 19 I still want to play with tf toys all the time and these guys are perfect to add to my toy collection I love how kid focus they are because I play with these like a kid and I have no shame in that so to see these figures is really exciting for me being a new beast wars fan I can’t wait to get them!
I remember having these two figures when I was younger. I was born in 2003, so a lot of my early Transformers were mainly Beast Wars. Now, I can’t say that had these exact figures, as I had gotten the 10th anniversary versions of them. They mostly had the same molds, but there were some changes made to them to appear more toon-accurate. Optimu’s robot chest didn’t have any gaps and holes, neither of the figures had the battle masks, and they both had a more accurate color-scheme. Though 10th anniversary Megatron had a much lighter shade of purple than he had in the show. Then again, it was the American version, so there’s that. Nevertheless, the remember those figures fondly.
Sadly though, my Optimus became a bit damaged over time. The springs in one arm went out of place, so now his hand can’t close properly. I lost all his weapons, and one of the flaps that covered the guns on the back had fallen off and somehow ended up on a driveway to an old apartment complex I used to live in. It had gotten tan over and could no longer be reattached.
Sadly, my Megatron, like most of my old Transformers figures, were lost in storage when we were moving from an apartment. There were a lot of classic figures in that box. I can’t remember all of them, since I was a kid when it happened, but I mostly remember Megatron, the frog Predacon, Transmetal Rhinox, and Beast Wars Ironhide and Prowl, along with Silverbolt’s head (Magna Boss Silverbolt, not Fuzor)
As of current, I now have the Masterpiece Megatron, and eagerly wait for the re-issue of the Masterpiece Optimus Primal. But if I ever see these reissued original figures on the shelves, I may pick them up for old times sake.

I recently got re-issue Cheetor and i really like him. Optimus Primal is very good. I dont think ill get this reissue because i already have universe Primal.

I just got Optimus at Walmart earlier today for 22$ I unfortunately missed out on Megatron on sale online Walmart for 12.72 earlier because I was trying to get Optimus at the store I saw it at yesterday and I did. Unfortunately not able to get Megatron but it’s cool I like Optimus way better than Megatron and I got both of them in kingdom version so I am good 😊 just gonna display Optimus as a different character in my transformers collection

I really want these but have a hard time fitting them into my budget alongside all the other transformers i want.
Just got mine, can't really figure out the arm gearing and such, the gears are kinda exposed in his elbows and even with the lever closed his arms are connected in movement.

The left arm gimmick doesn't work on mine either. I think it's an engineering problem across all the reissues.

First off - AMAZINGGGGGG video! Loved it!! I just wish so much I had your love of this optimus primal though lol I bought one straight after watching your enthusiasm of the figure and can honestly say it’s THEE worst transformers toy I have EVER bought! Lol it’s cheap, flimsy, barely stands and the arm gimmick movement is so so so flawed! I detest the thing! Had to return it as I thought I just got a bad one, but then 3 figures later they are all just as bad! Giving up now and returning it tomorrow! So disappointed!! 😥
Thanks for this comment. I've been collecting the Netflix figures, so I already have the Kingdom version of Optimus Primal and was trying to decide if it was worth having another. This one seems bigger than the Kingdom version and I like the arms of this one, but I couldn't find anyone that compared the two. Was just about to buy this figure (literally standing in the store typing this lmao), but I think I'll wait and see if I can find a comparison. $50 is a lot to spend on a duplicate, especially if it's worse quality compared to the original one I already have.

i actually work at walmart lol :3 was curious if you got them from a third-party seller because primal and megatron are really hard to get in store. i got lucky and ran into the vendor just before she started stocking and she only had 1 optimus primal and about 5 rattraps and cheetors. but we just started getting them in stock the last week of august and im located in the GTA, how did you get yours so early ?

OP chest is not red like the original. And the original Megatron was more of a grey in body color.
I honestly prefer these over the Kingdom figures. Kingdom Primal's robot mode looks awesome, but his gorilla mode is kind of ugly. Kingdom Megatron looks good in both modes, but he's a bit of a pain to transform and I cannot for the life of me get him to stand up right in T-rex mode. I know they're nowhere near as iconic or popular, but I'd love to see what the Kingdom toymakers can do with the transmetals.
Did you flip out the heels in robot mode for Megatron?
@@TFanPage101 Actually, it's Kingdom Megatron--who doesn't have the black robot heels--who gives me trouble in beast mode. I have zero issues with 1996 Beast Wars Megatron.
