I got this guy for Christmas, and I absolutely love him. The way all the gimmicks are packed in, without sacrificing much of anything, is truly amazing.
There are sacrifices made, but I think they were worth it for this madness.
Im shocked at the fact some people still think prime and primal are the same characters
Don't be there will always be new fans or fans who don't know much of the lore so they probably will not know the difference at first
Also there are just people who didn't like the idea of Prime Becoming a Monkey for some reason so they didn't watch the show, and never learned better.
personally i wish lay were the same character just with different body and name

I feel like the Cadence of that doesn't quite work.
For the ppl who prefer to have unburdened articulation over the gear system, it’s actually pretty easy to remove it. Open up the back using the screws, remove all the gears, then unscrew the biceps, remove the springs hiding in there, then just screw on the biceps as tight as it will go. The articulation is just as tight only now it’s not affected by the gears
“Monkey with a gun” sounds like a reference to something. So I got kingdom Terrorsaur and I think he’s pretty good and he makes me even more excited for Tarantulas (who looks great) and Inferno to complete my Beast Wars stuff (screw the fusors and Rampage is whatever)
I mean Monkey with a gun is just a phrase that means someone who has a dangerous power is wielding it recklessly.

Just got this guy and megatron and adore them. God I miss gimmicks on transformers figures, I don't understand why people say they don't want gimmicks when the whole point of transformers is that they have a gimmick. I feel it's good as long as they add more than they subtract. Great review perspective end
It's nice to have something that's just clean and looks exactly like what it's supposed to, but every time I get something with Gimmicks, I just have so much fun I don't wind up caring.
I was lucky enough to get this guy on discount for I think 20$. One minor issue with was one of the shoulder missile launcher's spring doesn't stay lock and the gears are a bit tricky for posing but other than that I'm glad to have this since my older brother and I grew up watching this as kids.
The launchers have the most hair triggers imaginable so that doesn't surprise me. Glad you enjoy the figure.

The real sad thing about people that think Primal is Prime is that they probably haven't watched the greatest Transformers series of all time
Oh that's guaranteed, because Primal MEETS Prime during the show. So there's no mistaking it.
This is one of my favorite figures of the year, also while it’s not my favorite of all time, this is probably one of, if not the objective best Transformers of all time given the amount of good action figure AND good toy qualities in this figure.
It’s incredible.
It is a product of a bygone era but a REALLY fun bygone era.
He's the only reissue I got to replace one I had years ago and got used.

I respect Beast Wars fans, but the only thing I questioned was Why did Primal choose monke? You go from bipedal robot to semi bipedal beast, while other characters get wings, horns, and fast legs. That would be like the only thing I criticized about the show.
Here's the problem with your point of view. You are assuming they chose their altmodes to gain abilities they didn't have, but they did it out of necessity to not die from radiation.
So I can respect the decision of Monkey cause it just signifies that he didn't want to do it in the first place so he just chose the mode that lets him continue to be the thing he's always been. A mans with opposable thumbs.
Also being a monkey with hands for feet saved his life in the first episode so he made a solid call anyways.

Great review, my man. Kinda funny how well some of the original Beast Wars figs hold up compared to how fast their Kingdom updates'll age. Also, I have THOUGHTS about the Legacy wave 2 figures that I shall share here.
Tarantulas: What's this? A Predacon (not counting Dinobot) who actually looks show accurate and like he won't crumble after a few transformations? MADNESS! All hyperbole aside, this looks like the first Predacon from the original BW show that looks like he'll be more than just a pretty display piece. Hopefully the transformation's fun!
Elita-1: At long last! Optimus's spouse has a mold to call her own instead of being a retool of someone else! Admittedly, her alt mode is a tad silly (and I'd have swapped the red out for a toon accurate magenta so I wouldn't be reminded of the WFC show), but everything else looks quite promising
Wildrider: Looks alright. I could've done without the excessive kibble hoodie, but understandable given his place on Menasor.
Knock Out: Surprisingly not bad for a Jazz retool. Like with Bulkhead and Arcee, he's not really a direct translation of the Prime character model so much as he is a version that fits in the Generations style. His head looks nice, and I appreciate the amount of alterations made to make this kinda look like Knock Out in both modes (especially car mode).
Siege Soundwave reissue: Eh. I've been meaning to get a Voyager Class Soundwave for my collection (I've been stuck with the Robots in Disguise 2015 version), so this is actually good for me. I can just pretend Kingdom SW is his actual alternate mode.
Jhiaxus: Looks like someone didn't skip leg day. I guess that makes it LEGacy, am I right? Don't have much attachment to the character, but curious to see how the rumored Armada Starscream retool of this guy will turn out. Also, he is once again proof that Hasbro can design jet Transformers with waist swivels and cockpit chests but were too lazy to give one to ER Starscream.
Blitzwing: Still not a fan of this guy. Like you said, hyper accurate robot mode but bad alternate modes. Skipping him and continuing my hunt for a decently priced Titans Return Blitzwing.
Motormaster: While I'm still not a fan of toon!Menasor, this figure might make me one. Motormaster himself looks quite beefy for a small Commander/WFC Leader sized guy, his trailer seems well-engineered, and the Menasor "frame" at least looks like it's going to be better proportioned than the Combiner Wars version
The Preds didn't get enough love in Kingdom.
Why does everyone have a problem with her altmode, it seems fine to me.
The kibble cape is kind of ridiculous.
Yeah we knew we weren't getting direct translations.

Love this figure, glad you love it too. Always wanted it as a kid but never got the chance to own it until now, and it absolutely lives up to 20 years of hype.
Just fyi you're actually doing the mutant head wrong. The robot head is supposed to be facing backwards, and the antenna are supposed to be rotated down so they come under the mask as extra "fangs". That's according to the instructions anyway.
As a Kid I loved it too. I don't think that's right because 1 this is how it comes in the box, and 2 the crest kind of slots in too perfectly.
@@PerspectiveEnd wait really? Mine was flipped the other way in the box. Oh no. Well it depends, obviously you're not bound by the instructions, I quite like the antenna fangs and the backwards crest kind of gives it an extra fin on the top.

That was a very good figure I owned the 10th anniversary version. I ended up selling that set. I don't know, I never clicked with it. I always rather Scorponok and the Snapper of that line. Well those 2 were nostalgia for me. Even Megatron, he was my favorite character on Beastwars, I never liked his toy. Primal was way better than Megatron... But I think it was because of been a monkey, I have never cared about monkeys or gorillas. But his character was really interesting. Even in Beast Machines.

i was doing some cleaning today and this video has the same vibes as when i found universe hound, that thing cam out in 2008 and i am less bothered i missed siege because this thing is so good. 2:48 something I think is interesting on the topic of Primals heritage is how Beast Wars II and Neo explain it. He not only posses the convoy body type, but it can be inferred that he’s somewhat related to God Ginrai in the same vein that Rattrap is related to Arcee. Since he uses Ginrai’s fire guts attack in the BWII special. It’s a neat piece of lore that makes me like Primal even more. I know it’s probably not intentional that they both have red optics but it’s something cool they both share that cements their connection to me. Since every other Convoy in the G1 timeline has blue eyes but the 2 of them.

Ahhhhhh yes back when a figure from when Hasbro designed their transformers with a fun factor instead of designing a figure for "lets slightly redesign molds of mostly if not completely G1 characters in a way we can se them as recolored and/or retooled characters."
I gotten the reissue because it would look nice next to my transmetal Optimus Primal figure which was my first transformers figure, and after messing with the original I was not disappointed in my purchase. I say people need to get their hands on this while they still can cause it is that good.
Yeah but to be fair, they did still release other characters off the same molds back then but all they did was change the paint, they didn't even do different heads.

@@PerspectiveEnd yeah there always been repaints and slight remolds/retool even back in the yee old times of the 90's but the initial figures of each wave were still made up of unique characters and not the same mold used in 5 different characters over multiple waves/toy lines and a good number of beast wars remolds were made because they were characters in the anime of beast wars 2nd and beast wars neo
This is one of those toys the designers crammed as much into as they could.
And they charged regular price for it too.
When using the Battle Mask, if you turn the robot head around and lower the antenna, they fit into the grooves on the bottom to the mask, giving Primal a set of mandibles. I think it was meant to be Predator-like.
as a huge fan of beast wars,i honestly really like the reissue toy line,especially with the fact that most of the reissue beast wars are better than the kingdom toys,which is funny as hell
I wouldn't say most of them are better, but I would say that some of them are SHOCKINGLY better.

Well now I want to know what you would think of having the 10th anniversary Optimus Primal and Megatron in hand.
Who I would argue are the progenitors of the premium edition Transformers before they were even a thing.
Though if you ever do decide to get them, the cheapest way would probably be eBay. But even then, the cheapest those specific figures come for, considering they’re usual sold as a two-pack, are about up to $100. And that’s just for pre-owned. But again, since they are being sold as a two-pack, that price really wouldn’t be too bad when considering how much Hasbro charges for their reissue figures separately. All you would have to take into account is what kind of wear or tear do the pre-owned figures have.

If you want to check them out they’re called Beast Wars 10th anniversary Optimus Primal and Megatron. You’ll be looking for the ones in the style of the old toys, not the ones that have the Transformers Universe styling to them. Because apparently there are two different sets of 10th anniversary figures.
Now I kind of wish I had this figure back when it was new. That skull mace is awesome

One of the things that could have made this figure better is if the mutant face was just removed because then primal will actually have a neck instead of a thing

I just picked this up from Ollie's today for only 15 bucks can't put it down. You guys had some good shit in the 90s And I was born in 2008 and I'm having fun with this thing.

How they managed to fit all that in? I mean it's gimmicks aren't intrusive, and it has great posebility, usually gimmicks came with drawback...
I'd say the gimmicks intrude a little, but they are worth it for the stupid fun factor of him.

What form of Primal is your favorite and why?
That's a hard question because he does tend to get rocking figures. Or are you talking about Transmetal, Normal, and Optimal?
If we are talking Figures it's a toss up between this and the masterpiece. If show forms, man they are all so good it's hard to chose. I think probably the first one, but the blue of the Transmetal always pleased me, and the Optimal form is awesome.

I have never seen the original Iron Hide and Ratchet toy until now. WOW! Just... WOW. I am speechless as to how bad they were.
Yeah, these weren't designed as sentient robots, more like mech suits for Microman figures.
Yeah their figures are legendarily bad. They were basically like the Loaders from Aliens that when they were brought to the US had face stickers slapped on their seats, to fake it they were the characters they said.
I question why the stickers didn't look anything like the characters though.
I wish that hasbro would put gimmicks in more toys ( and im taking about good gimmicks )

I don't know if Hasbro QC sucks now a days or just i have a really bad luck because my primal came with a loose bicep (i guess the mechanism came fucked up from factory) terrorsaur with a loose foot, SS jazz with a loose knee, laser prime loose right arm, it just demoralizing

This video reminded me of another Beast Era figure I have who I adore, maybe a bit more than Primal: Beast Wars Tankor. I found him 9-10 months ago sealed for like 30 bucks and he’s one of the most fun toys I have. I highly recommend him if you don’t have him already!

I love this thing never got it in the 90’s was surprised to see him and Megatron in Walmart on a random walk by the toy aisle BeastWars is still to this day one my favorite shows ever waiting for Silverbolt so I can get past the shame of buying that croc Megatron and bat primal 2 pack instead when the were both 10.99 at KB Toys in 2000 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Hey man, I'd kill for a Bat Optimus and Crockimegs right now. But yeah Beast Wars Rules and it will NEVER stop ruling.
For the first year or two of G1 Transformers, we had to suffer from the crap mech vehicle ideas from Diaclone and Quick Change and a couple other amalgamated toy lines popular in Japan in the late 70s and early 80s.
It wasn’t until the show had become an established thing did the toys even somewhat resemble their animation counterparts.
You 90s babies don’t know how good you had it when animation and toy products were much more closely tied together, Beast Wars wave 1 and season 1 excluded.
You think I don't know the Horrors of Ironhide? You think I don't remember the pain of the Original Constructicons being tiny and brittle?
I was a G1 Kid first.
My issue with original Optimus Primal is size and the face. I hate the mouth covered face as well as the mutant head. The Reissue Primal is too big for my collection. He doesn't fit with the other Beast Wars figures I have and that includes Silverbolt. The Kingdom Optimus Primal is smaller and I can see his mouth like in the show. All of the Kingdom Transformers give me the nostalgia feels.
I know why you like the big boy. He handles almost smoothly and you can really play with the accessories. But Kingdom Primal feels like he stepped out of my television and onto my shelf. Also he's not that much bigger than my other Kingdom figures or Beast Wars Silverbolt.
I always preferred the full face mask my self. I thought it was cool. The lips just weirded me out.

i love this figure a lot even though its not my era of transformers so not it not nostalgia it just THAT GOOD i find it sad how we dont get theses really gimmicky toys anymore for 2007 we had automorphing, rotf had blades that would deploy from Optimus's arms for dotm and tfp we got mechtech which is my favorite out of all of them

i brought this when it came out and I love toys with gimmicks, I never have cared for articulation on any transformer because I transform them or they sit on a shelf in a basic pose, aside from a few of my gems, that being all of unique toys live action toys, shattered glass seige starscream and tf6 ss optimus Prime because it just looks cool
I like to have the options, and if it doesn't articulate well in the modern age then like, what am I paying for?
Is that hole in the chest meant to accomodate scorponoks chest beetle?
How does this guy compare in size to megatron? Ive seen pictures where primal looks the same size, but I've seen others where he seems to dwarf megatron.
They are very comparable. He might look bigger in Beast Mode because Megatron kind of thins out, but otherwise they are basically the same size.

This review kinda made me wonder if we will get the primal and megs 2 pack because hasbro ARE doing characters which weren't in the show and it is kind of a hasbro move to reissue characters no one wants
I doubt they will do a two pack, they will just have people buy the individual figures.
My family was visiting our local mall about a week before my birthday, (I'm the same person from the Devastator vid), and I was checking a toy store in the mall. I'm not always a fan of the store's prices, but as I was looking at the G.I. Joe/Transformers shelf my mind was blown when I saw reissue Primal, for $40.00 there instead of $52.99 from Hasbro Pulse, so it was cheaper than not just from the manufacturer, but compared to other items IN THE SAME DAMN STORE.

I know you heard this before, but it's your channel. You have the option to dish out any kind of video you want, if there is a figure you want to make a video about, but can't because of another video you have to make for the subscribers. Personally I suggest you stick with your original plan or video you wanted to post to get that out of the way. We will always like the content you make, even if there's the whiners that would complain over stupid stuff. Again it's your channel, not theirs, just have fun with it as much as you can.
Also I love TF figures that have gimmicks, it just feels so nostalgic when I used to own most of the Bayverse figures.
I like doing all this stuff, and I like keeping with themes and Idea's, I find it fun, besides I needed an excuse to do this one anyways.

WFC Primal's Gorilla face was designed to be accurate to a real Gorrilla. In the same way that Bumblebee transforms into an accurate, licensed, 1976 Volkswagen beetle.
Yes, but the WFC show model for primal didn't look like the toy. Which is what I'm pointing out. So that primal fails to look like it's own toy a quarter of a century later.

As someone who never owned the original 1996-98 Beast Wars figures (the only ones I had any interest in, Kay Bee Toys could never keep in stock)...dammit, now I gotta hunt down that Walmart reissue of this guy. (That said, I still don't care about Megatron. It's gray, not purple like it should be. However, that squirt gun gimmick once again makes it very hard to resist...)
I hope they eventually reissue the original Optimal Optimus & Transmetal 2 Megatron...yes, I hate how much of a midget the robot mode of Megs is, but that dragon is badass!!
These recent Walmart reissues have their paint color schemes lean closer towards their cartoon appearances, so in this instance, Megatron is purple instead of gray and has a black head instead of his original toy's silver.
Yeah Megatron's colors were off but the sculpt was there. Here's hoping you can find this thing. I still see it on shelves.
Honestly, with regards to Ironhide and Ratchet, at least for my part, I didn't deal with it. I actively and willfully ignored its existence.

This figure is the best counter to the Armada defense that you must give up articulation for functioning gimmicks, I feel. As, like you said, he is packed to the gills with mechanics and still has most joints that set the benchmark going forward. I had actually forgotten how well the chest-beating action worked on him.
Yeah, it was always BS that they claimed that, it does require you to not use ball joints as much this is kind of true. Really they just didn't want to spend the money making stuff this complex for the price they were.
I pretty sure that the head color of prime was changed to be more accurate to the cartoon then the original toy which was a much lighter blue

So yeah, I'm thinking about getting this, just one question, does the plastic feel nice? I've seen another review that says that the plastic quality is worse than the original, but, does that mean is generally bad? Or even better than the average modern figure, let's say, ER Optimus prime?
If Perspective doesn't mention the plastic quality it's probably fine.
The plastic feels fine. It's not amazing in that department, but fine. I don't remember what the original figure felt like to compare it to.
If I'm gonna get this it's gonna be for display, either with or out of the box, I'm probably just gonna get the reissues of the figures that didn't appear in the show (such as cybershark and that wolf guy, I forgot his name)

@@PerspectiveEnd because, I'm 90% sure they're not gonna get a modern update, maybe a repaint of Transmetal 2 Cybershark if they do a sky-byte but I'm not betting my money on it, and I like the original characters and their respective toys but I already got all the Kingdom figures and I'm happy with that, even if they're not the best
I like to think primal is a descendant of Optimus and lio convoy is a descendant of jinrai
Someone else just hypothesized to me that Primal is the Descendant of Jinrai because they both have red eyes.
