Gotta love how they repurposed the NEST truck into movie Brawn. That figure and landmine are a pair made in heaven. (not to mention the entire htfd subline with stuff like Seaspray and Breacher)
Fun detail about Landmine, his hands become the seats in vehicle mode, flag thing on him is a rule that flags always have to face the direction they are travelling in the relative wind direction of the vehicle, planes have it too, less obvious on flags like the UK's since it's symmetrical...mostly

This channel is so uplifting sometimes. There's a lot of grumbling in the TF fandom and its nice to see someone who obviously loves the things hes reviewing. The obscurity just adds to it. It's just nice to see people enjoying things. Love your work

Landmine's flag is not "reversed" it's displayed with the stars forward to give the impression of a flag flying in the breeze while charging into battle. It's black and white because it's a reflective.
This is why I will always look fondly back on the first three movie toy lines. You just had so many options when it came to toys. It’s such a shame that that came to an end in favor of the one-step, three-step and other easy-to-transform toys in the Wahlberg films, especially since both movies had such a limited cast of characters.

I just realized that the AllSpark Power line was probably implying that the vehicles were turned into bots on Earth because of the AllSpark, rather than them being bots that scanned those alt-modes, which actually is a kinda neat idea. Which means that's probably not the intent of the line and I'm reading into it way too much lol
I think you’re right though, the movie toys have done that. I’m sure the red pickup guy in this video’s bio says he was brought to life by the allspark and still lives with the person whose normal truck he used to be. There’s like Dispensor and Ejector and whatnot as well who are all regular appliances

ROTF Springer was an Osprey. He only ever got a Legends class figure, though, and the rotors couldn't tilt properly. But hey, at least he had hands (and a reasonably low amount of kibble). Edit: Obviously not from the first movie, but you specifically called out Ospreys

Good news; the name got reused in IDW fiction for a Dead Universe tankformer. And he got a toy in the United EX toyline! Though he went by the name of Tankmaster in that series, the bio gives enough clues that you can figure it out (bad-guy tank who's mates with Straxus doesn't leave many candidates). He's basically Power Core Combiners Heavytread but with dark green and purple.

I always imagined Armorhide as a traitor, eventually switching sides to the Decepticons to live out his murderous moods.
FACT CHECK the backwards flag on the right side of Landmine is standard us military. It's meant to represent the revolutionary era of flag carriers on the battlefield. Flag is backwards like they're moving toward towards the enemy and all that jazz. Sorry couldn't help myself but make this comment. Coming in to say somehting two years late that 1000 people alreayd might have: On US military property, the "back" of the flag must be made to face the front of whatever its on to imply the flag is being blow backwards by moving forward. having it in the normal configuration implies it being blown forward due to a retreat.
B&W aside, the flag on Landmine is reversed 'cuz that's a real US military thing. It hearkens back to what the flag would look like when viewed from the right side as it was physically carried into battle by mounted cavalry units.

Longarm and Dropkick are my two favorite non-movie movie characters. Dropkick has a design that actually looks like it fits in with the movie aesthetic when so many of them just look like more traditional Transformers characters, and Longarm is basically Movie Hoist with an obtuse callout to Aaron Archer's screen name plastered on its side. Plus, they have fun but straightforward transformations that don't require so many parts orbiting around each other like some of the other guys. Also, Dropkick's giant Decepticon sigil is so ridiculously awesome. Another thing worth pointing out is that the character art on the package for Dropkick showed that he had windshield wipers under his optics, with the fandom taking the joke to mean he's actually a whiny knob-o teenager who has to use them to keep the tears out of his face.
24:56 It’s probably because the ospreys were a massive failure, from what I know they spent a lot of money producing the things but then basically found them completely useless and couldn’t afford to decommission them, so I guess this is kind of their way of showing their investors that they weren’t completely pointless

I actually heard rumors of Studio Series starting to take on some of the toy original characters from the first three movie lines, starting with ROTF Breakaway.
Am I the only one who doesn't want that? Like, I get the appeal of it and I do want those toys, but the charm of them is that they were these clumsy clunky robots that were still trying to work out the whole movie design aesthetic. I just don't see the point in trying to recapture that magic.

RE: Landmine. The backwards flag signifies soldiers going into combat (as in, the way it flies backwards from a flagpole when riders are carrying it into combat). At least, that's the way it was explained to me. There was also a rumor that DOD just ordered a bunch of flags for uniforms, they got embroidered backwards, and just made some shit up and rolled with it. The black and white is definitely fashy. But for 2008...? I'm uncertain. My sources are first hand convos with people while I was as soldier in Iraq in 2005.
As several other people have already mentioned in the comments, the flag is black and white for low visibility. Militaries tend to avoid putting bright, contrasting colors on their vehicles for obvious reasons. Let's all calm down, now. Not everything is some sort of fascist dog whistle.

However, given the timing of the film (2007), those kinds of things had only been known to the general public via Lee Atwater's "Southern Strategy". And given that every time I've seen a black and white flag since 2015 has been in a fashy context, and the fact that I mentioned the time frame of the film already, and the nature of US foreign and domestic policy where non-white/cis/het/abled people are concerned...

It took me a good 5 minutes to remember what I wanted to say by the time the video ended, and oh yeah, Dropkick probably definitely took inspiration from that guy! Considering Shatter was originally named Fracture, another TF07 nobody, besides the GoBots shtick.

I love them as well. Sure people say they don't have personalities, and yeah they kind of don't. But they look cool as hell. Can't recall many G1 Cons that have a personality that isn't just "evil" or "dumb" or "evil and dumb". But their designs are neat as well.

It's mainly because they relegated the good figures to Studio Series, or in the case of AoE, Generations for some bizarre reason.
Aw man, Stockade was so cool in the Titan Comics. Punching out Ironhide with one attack was one of the first "Oh shit" moment I ever had with a comic.

Coming in to say somehting two years late that 1000 people alreayd might have: On US military property, the "back" of the flag must be made to face the front of whatever its on to imply the flag is being blow backwards by moving forward. having it in the normal configuration implies it being blown forward due to a retreat.
I like how Overcast's arms are the thrusters rather than the legs or the thrusters being on the back. It's a nice twist.

B&W aside, the flag on Landmine is reversed 'cuz that's a real US military thing. It hearkens back to what the flag would look like when viewed from the right side as it was physically carried into battle by mounted cavalry units.
Longarm's such a lad, I love him so much that when mine started to yellow I bought a second. Fun fact off the wiki - you can unscrew his rifle from his hand and peg it to his left one and it'll still transform fine.

Apologies if already mentioned, but the American flag is often printed in grayscale if it fits the design, and on the passenger side it should always be backwards, as that's how it would fly as the vehicle drives.

Fantastic video, I'm just super bummed you missed out on one of the best figures of any of the movie lines and indeed one of the best transformer deluxes ever, Wreckage. He's up there with Dropkick, has insane poseability for a deluxe, and his transformation rules, plus you can darth maul his weapons together! ......maybe he deserves his own video? :D

Longarm and Dropkick are my two favorite non-movie movie characters. Dropkick has a design that actually looks like it fits in with the movie aesthetic when so many of them just look like more traditional Transformers characters, and Longarm is basically Movie Hoist with an obtuse callout to Aaron Archer's screen name plastered on its side. Plus, they have fun but straightforward transformations that don't require so many parts orbiting around each other like some of the other guys. Also, Dropkick's giant Decepticon sigil is so ridiculously awesome.
Another thing worth pointing out is that the character art on the package for Dropkick showed that he had windshield wipers under his optics, with the fandom taking the joke to mean he's actually a whiny knob-o teenager who has to use them to keep the tears out of his face.
Looking back at this again, I am a bit amused at how much Grindcore kinda lookes like Thew.

I actually heard rumors of Studio Series starting to take on some of the toy original characters from the first three movie lines, starting with ROTF Breakaway.
Am I the only one who doesn't want that? Like, I get the appeal of it and I do want those toys, but the charm of them is that they were these clumsy clunky robots that were still trying to work out the whole movie design aesthetic. I just don't see the point in trying to recapture that magic.

RE: Landmine. The backwards flag signifies soldiers going into combat (as in, the way it flies backwards from a flagpole when riders are carrying it into combat). At least, that's the way it was explained to me. There was also a rumor that DOD just ordered a bunch of flags for uniforms, they got embroidered backwards, and just made some shit up and rolled with it. The black and white is definitely fashy. But for 2008...? I'm uncertain. My sources are first hand convos with people while I was as soldier in Iraq in 2005.
As several other people have already mentioned in the comments, the flag is black and white for low visibility. Militaries tend to avoid putting bright, contrasting colors on their vehicles for obvious reasons. Let's all calm down, now. Not everything is some sort of fascist dog whistle.

However, given the timing of the film (2007), those kinds of things had only been known to the general public via Lee Atwater's "Southern Strategy". And given that every time I've seen a black and white flag since 2015 has been in a fashy context, and the fact that I mentioned the time frame of the film already, and the nature of US foreign and domestic policy where non-white/cis/het/abled people are concerned...

Can't recall many G1 Cons that have a personality that isn't just "evil" or "dumb" or "evil and dumb". But their designs are neat as well.
