"I would be so uncomfortable to......have to tell you no as my wife because I said yes to them as my girlfriend." This right here is a complete word and concept that I wish more men and women would adapt. This honestly goes back to consciously dating! Dating with a purpose! I hear what you are saying, but that's how you slip up. I pay cash 99% of the time and only use my card for emergency spending. It is all about disciplining your spending. If you can't afford, deal without it. If you truly need it, use the credit card. I have a good savings account, so I don't have to use the credit card anyway👌. Dude, watch AO do these interviews and topics with inspiring well educated and well spoken individuals is so refreshing! It really gives me hope for the black community. Too many times watching the news, day after day, seeing our people in negative situations, brought on by themselves gets discouraging☹.
I'm glad AO is mature enough to agree on disagreeing on certain topics. I do believe in a good credit score! I do believe in saving in a 401k. I believe in preparing for tomorrow and the next day.
Credit cards are like fire! It can work for you steadily or tear you down very quickly!
Your credit score now doesn't just affect your buy power. It can affect you getting a job and getting into an apartment! It might not be a fair or accurate analysis. But people that are good with paying and saving money, tend to be good employees and tenants.

Currently on my debt free journey and I've decided to do away with my cards. I'm responsible and I don't carry a balance on any of them, but what's really driving me to cut them up is the fact that cc companies are basically betting on my failure so as to really profit off of me. Whether it's interest fees or late fees or whatever they can come up with, that's ultimately what they want, so why would I want that kind of energy in my life. If I have a girlfriend who's betting on me to fail, I wouldn't keep her around. Same with credit cards.

Emergency expenses like food and utilities is understandable for credit card usage, but for the majority, I think it has made us too comfortable and diminished our motivation/creativity to implement ways to earn big cash and not have to ever use a credit card for a emergency need, but instead rely on our emergency fund.

The Key is to create an LLC(s)/business(es) and transfer all you assets from your personal accounts to your LLC(s)/business(es) and/or trust accounts.(Protect your wealth) Payoff ALL your personal debt (personal CC, loans etc etc.) Start building business credit in your LLC(s)/business(es) so you can scale your business and so you can limit or don't use your personal CC at all (have a 6-12 month emergency fund for yourself, so you want have to touch your personal CC. Any liabilities ie: car(s), phone, the place where you live, etc. etc, start putting it into your LLC(s)/Business(es) name. (There lots of benefits and write offs) Basically let your business take most of the debt/liabilities so you don't have to. But at the same time, be in control and be responsible with the business debt. And if the debt go south you can aways file for business bankruptcy. @@anthonyoneal but then how is that different? Cash being tangible and countable vs a debit card is nine yards to find out how much you have. For some even a debit card is as bad as a cc.

@@anthonyoneal I respect your perspective. A little off topic but I want you to know its a bad idea to build the home or your son or daughter once they are married. This sounds crazy but I learned this from an episode of boy meets world. Once your children marry you need to step back and let them grow together. This includes finances. Give them a solid foundation growing up( i know you will) and once they are adults they will be able to do for themselves. Just my 2 cents. Everybody should experience struggle it builds character.

I do agree with Anthony. I'm very fortunate because my parents raised me under the same principle before anyone knew Dave Ramsey. I was taught never to use credit and always pay in cash for things you can afford after bills were paid. So I never worried about debt. I have a high school diploma and I had a regular job. I was taught to invest early in life. By the time I was 35 I was a millionaire by 42 I had enough to retire. Now 53 I have a net worth of 3 million dollars. Last year that made me 6 hundred thousand in income not touching the principal. I Bought two homes in cash never using debt. Why am I commenting? When I was mid 40's youtube got me into credit card churning. I ended up with 40 credit cards. I was never an overspender, ever in my life. But the bonus points were 5k or 6k of spending in three months got me bonus points, I found myself overspending money even though I didn't have any bills just to get those points. Another downfall I found myself in was once I had those points I traveled to use them for no reason at all before the miles expired. Yes, I got the free flight but I had to pay for a hotel, rental car, and eating out every night once on the vacation. I even asked myself at one point, what am I doing. Traveling up to 4 times a year to use points. Of course, I paid the bill in full every month and never carried debt but my spending was out of control. That's what these so call points do, they make you use them even if you don't need to. I closed all of the accounts. Now I travel when I want or need to, using a debit card. If they can get me, they surely can get you. I thought I was untouchable when it came to my finances. These credit cards are good at what they do. Just don't use them.

I think it's so interesting when people defend building credit saying you need it in order to get a mortgage or car loan. They say manual overwriting or living with no credit score is " jumping through hoops" and I agree that it does take longer and is "harder" to do. But if you compare the few weeks or months it will take to get a mortgage or car with no credit, it pales in comparison to "building credit" which takes YEARS. YEARS !! But some extra paperwork and a few months is too much.... Very interesting.

  • @prudencek7087

Soooo... clearly these ladies have not been FULLY introduced to Dave Ramsey's program.... the point of having the emergency fund is so you DON'T use a credit card when you have an emergency, because you have the back-up funds to cover your emergency. If you have to use a credit card for an emergency, then clearly you don't have the money to pay back the cc and that's how people continually carry a balance and can't seem to get out of debt. You need a credit card and a credit score if you plan on borrowing money. If you buy and pay for everything... YOU actually OWN IT!!! The bank doesn't own your stuff until you pay them back. It's beautiful owning everything in my house and on my driveway. Working on paying off the mortgage next! 🙌🏽

I’m one of those people that credit card stack and have about 250K of available credit to use when I need it. It’s helped me fund the start up of my ATM business and it helped me get my first two rental properties. Learning how to leverage your credit and learning the difference between good debt and bad debt is key.

If you choose to use credit cards never have more than two, always pay it off in full every month, never charge anything that is ‘optional’, just charge things like fuel and items you already budgeted for. Anthony is right you can do it all with cash and debit cards and no credit score too, it’s a little more work but it’s also the better way overall to keep yourself out of debt and build wealth.

Credit cards are cool until you lose your job or use it as a emergency fund. I paid off my CC every month. Then I didn’t have my fund as built as possible and had to pay for a funeral on CC shortly after got fired out the blue of my job of 8yrs. 10k in debt doing Uber. Yes my savings wasn’t built enough but if I had savings built properly why would I use the risk of a CC you never know what would happen.

Credit cards are a tool. Just like any tool, it all depends on how the user uses it. Credit cards offer great rewards, spending breakdowns, and also more importantly much better protection. If there’s fraud with my card it’s the CC company’s money, it’s a pain if it’s debit cause that’s MY money… and there’s no way I’m carrying around straight cash.
