- Exploring Abandoned Funeral Home and Found Cremated Remains
This abandoned funeral home was shut down by the state for both incompetency and fraud. They left just about everything behind, as if they walked out of place, locked the doors, and never returned. This funeral home was historic too, dating back to the 1930’s, but it was a funeral home downstairs with the residence upstairs, almost making this a two for one type of location. The funeral home had several caskets left on display, a dual-table embalming room with all the preparation products left on the shelves and tables. The burial vault room still had all the burial vaults and different style urns left on display. The chapel had all the chairs still set up for a visitation and viewing.
In one room, there was even a box full of someone’s cremated remains left! That’s always creepy! The interior of the funeral home and residence also featured ornate details throughout including beautiful fireplaces, brass light fixtures, stone statues, and hand-carved woodwork.
Even the elegant furnishings were left behind, including tables, arm chairs, and couches. The bookshelves still were loaded with books, photos, and other personal belongings.
Portraits and paintings still hang on the walls. Funeral records were still left in the filing cabinets. It really seemed that this place had it all! And that is the exact reason why this abandoned funeral home is one of the best that we have ever explored!
Rest In Paradise Rebecca. You are truly loved and missed by everyone.

Former funeral director here ❤. That’s still how it is. The embalming table is porcelain. The tools, haven’t changed. It should have been donated to a college Or Mortuary school as long as none of the chemicals were corrupted. But the lift isn’t just used for the deceased. They’re also used in healthcare to move patients that smaller staff can’t move. Eye caps are so normal too. Your eye is made mainly of water. Moisture is the enemy of an embalmed body. Capping them is like putting a contact lens on one’s eye. It just keeps them from opening. But overall, nothing has changed within the death industry. Hence why I left. Plus working in mental health is less stressful believe it or not 😅. Love the channel. Seeing some of the corruption within the industry I went into, to help people, is sickening. It’s heartbreaking.
I feel the same way too that most of the stuff should be donated to a mortuary school of science. I wished I kept some things from a funeral home of my family's that was very genuine and Old fashioned.
I was looking into getting the funeral home business. I was hoping to hear what is wrong about the business so I be the exact opposite if I can help it.
Since I was teenager, funeral directors are my kind of people.
My
When a funeral home is closed down I think it should be the responsibility of the Medical examiner's office and the County Recorder's office to go in and ensure there are no remains left on the premises and to take charge of all records left behind. Also a Hazmat team should be brought in to remove all chemicals and used equipment from the building.
Particularly with COVID. Now I have no idea the shelf life of COVID on a cadaver, but even if it's short, why risk it?
@@rockoorbe2002 shelf life = "smell this, dude... Does it smell bad to you??"
@@rockoorbe2002 less than 36 hours from what I was told. I have a friend who worked in the coroner's office. That was one of 3 questions I had for her. The others were after 23 years, what's left of a body that's been in a car underwater. The last was what was left after 7 years. ( I was watching a recovery video from
Chaos Divers and AWP. )
@@carriebaker5161 I watch those shows too. I would think there would be only skeletal remains left. Did she tell you why they don't go in to remove chemicals and remains of loved ones?
So terrible how there left, when things could have been donated to those who can not afford a casket or urn, table & chairs could seat a new thriving family who have none. So sad.
I live in the UK and I can't believe that these funeral homes are just left. Everything in here could be donated even the furniture and it should be ensured that any remains are laid to rest
You would think somebody would take it over and keep it update helping us stuff in there looks still good
With the abandoned stuff, I'm surprised they didn't donate it to a mortuary school.
It would be nice if they would donate the caskets to people that can’t afford a 20000 dollar funeral.
That furniture needs to be rescued. Furniture is beautiful they need to get it out before they get ruined The wooden casket is beautiful
I'm surprised the place hasn't been looted.
The wooden casket is also locked!!!!
This angers me so much, for crying out loud the state , needs to remove everything, especially if a body is left behind, and donate to other funeral homes! Pay it forward!
My mom was a hairdresser for almost 50 years. She wen to the funeral home and did her best friends hair when she passed. Actually she did several I believe. Said it didn’t bother her at all. The real irony is she lost her own hair due to cancer. She was buried in a wig. You mentioned one of the reasons they were closed was incompetency. Now that’s what I find creepy about these places.
Macabre, morbid, funeral homes, hearses, creepy old homes, death... Strange how some of us are just curious drawn to it !
Those tiny caskets are hard to look at
I need to know where all these abandoned funeral homes are? I'm a funeral director and I would love to resurrect one of these businesses
So heartbreaking to know that there are families out there who ( For whatever reason ) have not collected loved ones ashes 😢 Awsome place not trashed as yet, I believed I’ve stated before on other funeral home finds that these places intrigue me. Thanks AC for another brill vid 👍
Sometimes they just can't afford it. Where I grew up, there is a section of 1 cemetery that has "paupers graves".
Alot of times families just dont ever come and pick up the Ashes after a year the funeral home can do what they want with them.
Somebody should take that place before it ends up getting destroyed looks fantastic inside.and try to find the family whose remains have been left behind.
I'm always stunned in which perfect condition the interior is while the ceiling and walls are collapsing.
All that embalming fluid was so unreal to see! And so neatly placed too!
Love this channel so much!!! This is the best!!!
Thanks for all the support Claire! You’re the best!
@@abandonedcentral awww no worries!!
@@abandonedcentral I watching this February 17th 2022. Who is responsible for this home now. Surely its the States Authority????? Those cremated remains need disposal.
This is a gorgeous building. This is about the third funeral home I have seen. It’s sad about the irresponsible people who owned this! It’s surprising how it looks like they will be back? Has this area of Detroit been abandoned?
So why just let it rot? Are the taxes being paid? Do an auction and get a new owner to repurpose it or get it back up and running. So stupid to just let all that stuff sit and rot till it’s useless instead of using it now for discount funerals or for indigent needs.
I'm from this city and went to a few funerals here. My mother use to say never send me here when I die cause it smells like mold.
The son that owned it was found to be doing corrupt thing's such as keeping rings of peoples loved ones and storing ashes of people that were supposed to have burials.
I think the reason it smelled down stairs was because the upstairs had not been lived in for a while and was not mantained.
My Father was a Mortician and he a couple cashes in our finished basement. Bottles are tightly capped and in shipping boxes. The smell comes out anyways. Air circulation, open windows helps with smells but it does get into fabric fibers.
Cases. Spelling error.
Yeah Rick is a crook
@@urbanexplorer260 so I'm assuming you know what went down to?
@@whareweruin92 oh yeah, he stole from his clients and also from their loved ones who had passed. Almost 300k in the hole, not clean money either
Okay, that was by far one of the neatest and most intact abandoned places I've ever seen! It was almost like the place was still in business and they were going to come in to work the next day with how organized everything in the embalming room was. Wow!
I will say though, please move a bit slower when panning around the rooms please. Also, when you're walking through the place, please don't drop the camera angle to the floor. Makes me dizzy to watch! lol
Other than that, I'm really diggin' your videos man. Keep up the great work!
Dude! My wife and I enjoy everything about your videos and look forward to every Sunday (and now bonus Wednesdays!). Your commentary often busts us up - like the 'tannish puke' casket color! Ha! Not sure why so many negative comments tonight, but this was spot on yet again in my book!
Thanks for the support Kevin. We can't make everyone happy. I'm surprised at the amount of people who like to complain about the free content they are watching.
If that place is easy for anyone to get in there, I'm amazed that the place hasn't been looted.
Wow! This funeral home explore was super cool. Did I miss seeing the drains on those porcelain embalming slabs? Also, were there coolers for the bodies? Thanks for another great vid, these funeral home explores are my favorite👍🏻🙏🏻🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Somewhere there's always the smoke detector that beeps..
Friggin had me going around the house

I bet it was a beautiful place when it was a funeral home. I can’t believe they left everything there.
My mom passed away from a heart attack in 1995 aged 26 her funeral was held at Lena Bryant FH in Chicago Illinois on 83rd and Racine. The FH building itself is still abandoned but the Taylor FH near 79th st owns them I called a few year’s ago and they said something about it being a family ownership deal. I would love to know what my mama’s funeral was like I was two years old and I did attend but I don’t remember anything. You’re so awesome to be doing this!! Please stay safe!!
Thank you for watching. I've actually explore the Lena Bryant Funeral Home. They have it completely gutted though, so there's nothing to see inside.
Blessed your heart. My deepest condolences to you and I pray that someone that attached your mom services can show you pictures. My mom passed away back in 1989 and I still have the necklace that was taken off of her. So I pray that someone will be able to give you or show you something.
Cleanest one I’ve seen closed. I wonder why the owners of all of the funeral homes leave everything in them.
They were probably arrested .and the enb. Fluid should be taken immediately,, it is bad for stupid people to steal and ingest .. Shrm. Is toxic.
Lete guess you bought the place cheap?!.
Whats astounding is that everything was left behind patients private details and a loved ones remains and another thing all those dangerous chemicals and metal items very hazardous these items could of been used for another funeral home that was struggeling
Not neck restraints they are positioning blocks and the folded casket carrier as you called it is a church truck.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PLACE SO IN TACT THAT WAS SHUT DOWN. I AM SUPRISED IT WAS NOT LOCKED UP.
Dude I can't believe they still leave the remains in the building. You should send this to the news this has happend here in Detroit a lot an the news gets the remaining remains back to the famliy
Non practicing Funeral Director here. Occasionally family's will abandon cremains and never pick them up.
@@Del-Scent That's sad creepy thou
I am always intrigued by the living quarters. That kitchen was amazing. Not sure anyone has actually lived there in a while but once upon a time they did. Amazing explore.
Thanks again Susan, we appreciate the support so much!
Bet you wish you could live in one
That furniture is beautiful! Why would they leave it😭
That place was dope to explore. Couldn’t believe what was left there. Good job, guys!
Such a waste of that stuff that could be used by another funeral home
Debrisss 😂😂😂
Looks like that place was very well organized and taken care of. Another amazing video Bob. Thanks for posting! ❤
I am guessing Jacob's spirit is still hanging around that funeral home, not knowing why he can't move on because his family hasn't come to pick him up yet.
Oh, that's just so sad. :(
I'm surprised no 1 renovated that place. Or the state didn't come remove all the chemicals and instruments. Great video
Amazing intact place which is very cool to see! No graffiti or holes kicked in the walls...not even things set up by people taking pictures or previous vloggers. Great find man!
I was surprised how clean and new everything looks. Are you sure it’s abandoned? I’m sure you are but a realtor could market it to those that are looking for a property of this type.
It’s intact because it was shut down 3 years ago by the state when this was recorded it had only been closed two years, people keep breaking in to it as well and trashing it.
@@kellyshelton1570 Its a shame oeople can not just look, explore and enjoy without destroying places. It makes no sense and how could one ever find them acts enjoyable is beyond me.
really a pretty nice place... thanks for sharing with us 🤟
One of the nicest and cleanest I’ve seen so far! That stove is everything
Those vaults are not for cremated remains. The price on those would suggest they are "display models". Vs having actual sized vaults in the building.
They left death records inside? That seems like it would be illegal.
The door to the funeral home was locked.. This man broke in - now that’s illegal…. The records should be in a locked cabinet..
@@elainekomara8555 He should be arrested for breaking & entering!
@@burnetteterry73 arrest me too then lmao cuz I was in there just this morning
Great find and if you go to 6:03 when he starts to talk about the statue on the stair case listen very carefully and you can here he picked up a disembodied voice.
OMG!!! I cannot believe that you caught that since it was so low… I totally heard it, super creepy
First video of yours I've seen and you go through this place as I would and actually fulfill my curiosity needs...🙂🙂
Thanks for watching! Subscribe to see more videos every Sunday!
Great video! Dig how it's still filled with stuff
Berrrooooh! Slowwwww down with the panning! Holy criminy!! Dizzy AF 🤦🏼♂️ get a hand gimble. $100. And slow down 😆
Good job exploring and showing us what goes on when a funeral home is just abandoned .... what a shame ! Very Sad😪😭🤣😂
July 25, 2022 my daddy passed away. July 30, 2022 was his visitation, August 1, 2022 was his funeral and burial. After that day I told myself I’d never set foot in another funeral home. Watching this video just brings back all those fears, pain and agony. And I’m comfortable with death- I work Hospice, but a personal loss is something different.
That place is cool! Excellent video. Best one of a funeral home that I have ever seen.
The antiques in that place has my head spinning!!!🥰
This looks like a nice place. I wonder why someone doesn’t buy it..
Awesome video man! such a creepy spot! I just started making abandoned videos myself and it's a blast!
Good luck in your new adventures! Stay safe Have a blast!!!
What is the name of your RUclips Video site? This guy doing this video needs to learn what the names of items & what they are used for. He was calling the small displays of vaults as baby caskets & Urn’s. There were so many things he said that were wrong: head rest was called neck restraint.I have seen many videographers who know the real names of items. This is the last time I will watch this person!
I love ur videos I gotta say tho this is the cleanest and most organized abandoned funeral homes I’ve ever seen so cool
Thanks so much for the support Chris!
Charming place…….. weekends available?
Amazing find tho. Love seeing flash abandons. So trippy! Like wtf? Why not take personal stuff? What happened? So many questions
Great video. 👍 I don't know how they lived upstairs, I would never be able to sleep. Every sound would freak me out lol
Yea me either. I'd think one of them are walking around downstairs 😂
@@abandonedcentral I know right lol yikes 😬
Trust me you get used to it, when I was a kid I think the only thing that freaked me out was when the dumb waiter (mini elevator that hoist caskets) moved on its own. My family barely worked on the deceased at night😬.
Probably the cleanest embalming room on youtube!
"Neck restraint" LOL!!! They were dealing with dead bodies, not zombies.
😁
Thinking the same, although he mispronounced just about everything
You shouldn’t be touching anything in the prep room without gloves on!!!! (Including the cabinets)
Those embalming tables are worth big bucks! Don’t touch anything, everything is dirty and
It’s also corrosive and a biohazard! That why embalmers wear PPE when in the prep room.
Well I fucked up today lol, I touched the liquid transfer machine
HELLO THANKS FOR DOING THIS. I LOVE THE FLOOR LAMPS NEAR THE CASKET HOW MUCH ARE THEY I CAN USE THEM PRICE
LMAO at 0:20 are you trying to imitate "Stefan" from SNL... " It has everything " lol....
I hope someone saves that bldg and that beautiful furniture
Did you close that gold/bronze casket? It was open. You showed the discolored pillow😳😳😳
Another great find 👍
Good stuff in there!!! Digital Piano, lamps, chairs, etc. All can still be used!
Remember, man, that thou art dust and unto dust shalt thou return.....
You should try to contact the family of cremation remains! Or medical examiner they have to have paper work before a body can be cremated...
RIP Jacob. Rest easy bud.
It is interesting that no one buys or takes the stuff in there.
Casket holder/ wheeler is called a "church truck" in the profession......
Those are not urns. They are samples of in ground vaults to choose from.
Brilliant I love these funeral homes ,can't watch now but in me liked for 2nite London UK, will watch in bed cheers
I've heard of embalming fluid, but what is artery fluid? Never heard of that.. And its so sad that the loved ones who were left behind, were left behind..even if the families didn't come to collect them, or maybe there wasn't family to collect them, looks like the funeral home could have given them a burial or something....IDK...thank you for the video..:)
Call the proper authorities For the remains
Maybe they can contact their loved ones
did you ever find out what happened to the owner if so be interested in the update
Now that would make an interesting Video...a follow up to find out if the records left behind and the bag of remains are all items needed to be claimed. Strange voice when he's getting happy about what he's seeing.
The family probably never came and picked up the remains.. The family is probably dead by now.. I think he said it was from 1995..
Wooden casket in basement is a rental cremation casket. You can see the L wrench spot to open the end and slide out the cardboard with decent.
I've worked in a FH and say all you would need to do is turn the power & water back on, dust off everything, & it's business as usual. But it's not all that easy. Owning a FH is 24/7 work with a huge overhead. This place must not be in an urban area. Otherwise it would be taken over by homeless folks. Cremated remains which were left behind are common. Families will pay for direct cremation of their loved ones & will not come in to pick them up. Eventually the medical examiner-coroner will take possession of them for disposition. This happens a lot.

You get so Excited seeing all that stuff just think one day it will be used on you I find it creepy and morbid
I have a coffin for a coffee table. Excellent storage space for things, and it is very beautiful. It is a real pity to waste it for a dead body.
Those "vaults" are not for cremains. They are various models of burial vaults.
Seeing the vault displays for CASKETS I take it that you never planned a funeral before.
I did not know how they left this beautiful funeral home. And I proud of your brave 🙏
Thanks for watching our video!
I hope those cremation remains get a proper burial. 🙏
I love this! Thank you.
Thanks for watching Amber!
So, looking at all of this, these folks just up and said f*ck it?! This looks like too much of a good thing!!
So the casket in the chapel was opened at the beginning but at the end it was closed
A very organized place with nicely furnished interior.
Yes it was!
that was so awesome i love watch about funeral home thanks for the video i love to go in funeral homes that would be awesome
Thank you for watching Millie!
I would of taken “ Jacob” and placed him in the most expensive display volt just so he felt special not just forgotten 😂
I love the Wall Organ, it's an antique in itself! 😍
Omg the "champagne glasses!! for some alcoholic or something" had me giggling after I rechecked what was said again.. so much money still in that place, it's unbelievable what is left behind 😳
Poor Jacob, left with no one to care for his ashes.
Wow that's awesome how do you find this stuff I always was fascinated about this kind of stuff
Lots of research on google haha!
The thing you are calling a neck restraint is a neck block so when they put them in the casket there head isn't in the wrong position
What happened to those families is heartbreaking but seeing the baby casket breaks my heart😢💔
I am wondering what is in side that casket in basement..??why is it locked It needs to be checked out!!
Looks like a great prep room to me.
The glasses on the side is for candles.

Is there a way to find the family of the Cremated remains/ashes??? Curious.
