On today's episode, I'm taking you inside one of the first African-American-owned funeral homes in the South.
This establishment not only claims the title of one of the county's most timeworn funeral parlors but also holds the distinction of being the trailblazer in offering burial service to African Americans.
During an era when segregation loomed large across the South, this Funeral Home emerged as a beacon of hope for African Americans. In the 1920s and 1930s, the owners of this funeral home, both college-educated, ventured into the mortuary business. Their journey was more than a career choice; it was a rare opportunity for African American men to rise above the limited professional options imposed by segregation. They not only mastered the art of mortuary services but also advocated for education and dignity within their community.
In a society where segregation dictated one's profession, this funeral home stands as a symbol of achievement. It honors the courage of those who, armed with education and determination, carved out spaces of respect and success within a segregated society. This historic funeral home not only serves as the final resting place for many but also as a testament to the strides taken by African American entrepreneurs in shaping their destiny amidst adversity. Unfortunately, changes in the town's community and economic shifts lead to the closing of the funeral home. Now everything remains frozen time. So, let's step inside and see what we can dig up from a bygone era. - Развлечения

The plastic looking circular object was most likely for flowers for the funerals, the "stone like" object is for the flowers to be stuck in. Love your videos
One thing you should consider in your walk-throughs is wearing latex gloves at a minimum and an N-95 mask, because you never know what you're inhaling, especially in some of the older and more advanced decayed locations.
I agree with Kim that you ought to contact someone so families can get their remains! I wasn’t going to watch this one because funeral homes make me very sad, but I decided to because I’m trying to become a stronger person❤
Former funeral director here... the lift we never used to transfer to the embalming table but to transfer into the casket since the decedent has to go over and down. In reference to the cremains you'd be surprised how many families don't want them, are contacted numerous times and don't pick them up. It's sad but very likely in a lot of these cases. Being so much later there may be other family members that want them now but legally after the next of kin is the only one that can claim them so other family members probably assume they did. I'm not sure what if any legalities would have to be considered now.
I was thinking the same thing, sometimes, for whatever reason, families don't want the remains of the deceased.
Cant believe that everything is still left behind, thanks for taking us along with you 👍
The spear thing on the table is a trocar. It’s hooked up to the tubing of the embalming machine. It pierces organs and removes waste by suctioning, and can distributes fluids also.
Thanks for the input.
You totally missed the white bassinet up on the shelf that they would use to transport babies instead of using a large gurney or to put them in for a wake instead of a casket. A special touch most funeral home will do.
Also, sometimes the decedent was a awful person (like a pedo)and the family doesn't want their ashes so they don't pick them up.
Oh crap your right!
It’s always great to watch your videos
Thanks 👍
As I've said on other funeral videos why in the world would anyone subject their lived ones to being pumped full of chemicals and all the things embalmers do to preserve a body....the funeral industry is such a rip off its not funny.
People are apparently convinced that this is the way to treat their loved ones. It truly is a tragedy
Cool video thanks for sharing
I would be cool to restore one of those old cabinets
I think that tape is to mark off the seats for family only of the person who passed away
It is a fascinating topic! Those lotions are corpse moisturizer.
It didn't take long to locate this funeral home and it was recently open as of 2022, I believe.
Thanks!
23:15; have you seen my baseball? ⚾
Those ashes are some people never picked up or paid
It’s creepy fascinating!
I love this stuff .
Crown of throns that is like what they placed on Jesus head when he was crucified.
The families probably couldn’t afford to pay for it. That’s why they’re still left there. If they could ever afford it, they would’ve already picked up the remains.
That's a possibility .

This was very interesting, thanks for the video =). I think that you should contact the police for the remaining family members to have the remains to properly bury them, as other viewers have said, I agree!
i think u should notify law enforcement for the boxes of the remains really cool place i love urban exploration thanks rick
I'm sure the police know already as bout the remains... Hmmm
Very sad ! Hoping they rest in peace
Ya probably so lol
23:27 did anyone else here like a bell when you open a door? Around 23:27 mark??
I didn't catch it
@@RangerRickTV It really sounded like a bell. You have to listen VERY closely.
@@RangerRickTV Almost right after you said the word poems
@@Get_er_Done_389 ok I just heard it's not sure what that was. Sounded like a spring.
I'm in Pensacola
I've seen videos where they show you under the casket. It's not comfy at all.
That embalming room is why I want to be cremated! No thanks! Been to way too many funerals in my 68 years! Interesting video though!
Even if you want to be buried you do not have to be embalmed. It's a money making exercise for them. In Holland it is banned for burials as they do not want the fluid leaking out from corpses going into the ground.
The state should have come got the remains.
Agreed.
only blood is sucked out with that machine then embalmed. Clothes are for funerals and they use a lot of makeup and a hair stylist .
Yes
Head rest
How did you get in that building?
It was open.
😷👍
❤❤❤❤❤
SIR YOU NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TALK ABOUT THESE PLACES THEY DID NOT SUCK YOUR GUTS OUT. YOUR ORGANS ARE TAKEN OUT BY CUTTING . PUT INTO A PLASTIC BAG AND PUT INTO YOUR CHEST CAVITY BEFORE THEY EVEN GET TO THE FUNERAL HOME. SO YOU REALLY NEED TO DO YOUR HOME WORK BEFORE YOU START LEADING PEOPLE ON WITH THINGS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT. THE BLOOD IS DRAINED OUT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE FUNERAL HOME USUALLY. THE MACHINE IS TO PUMP THE EMBALMING FLUID INTO THE BODY. IF YOU TALK TO A REAL FUNERAL HOME THAT IS RUNNING YOU WILL DISCOVER THERE ARE MANY MANY MANY REMAINS THAT THE FAMILY NEVER PICK
UP. PEOPLE JUST DON'T BOTHER PICKING THEM UP WHEN THEY WHERE TOLD THEY WOULD BE READY ON A CERTAIN DATE.
The organs are only removed if an autopsy is done at the morgue prior to being transferred to the funeral home. They are placed in the abdominal cavity. The blood is not drained during autopsy and therefore needs to be done as part of the embalming process.
👍👍👍
i love urbex.
Same.
lol..
Omg the makeup!!
Ikr!
Shot out to the 1960's Gillette fat boy adjustable razor.
Where do you find these strange places?
mostly networking with the right people or randomly driving around.
He must be a strange place magnet ! I don't come across places like this in my neck of the woods. And I look .....lol
I know some of that stuff needs to be in a museum especially all the tools to let people know the history of it all. So yes I would make an effort to contact the popo about the ashes you just never know. Have a great day
Thank you.
I enjoyed your video. My only suggestion is when you come to funeral homes. A lot of the information you are giving pertaining to equipment in the preparation room is incorrect. A lot of the things you are saying are incorrect and I would suggest that. You know you get information from an actual funeral service professional? So when you narrate your videos, you're giving the right information because a lot of the things you're saying, regarding equipment and what have you and what it's used for and how it's used is absolutely incorrect.
First! 🎉🎉
