Before that location operated as Swanson FH, it was the Greene Home for Funerals. The original location was opened on St. John St in 1949, but relocated to its current location on MLK Ave in 1967 (hence the style of the building's architecture). Leo Greene, the owner of the establishment, ran his funeral operations from there until he retired in the mid-1990's and sold the funeral home to O'neil Swanson II. Greene then moved to San Diego, where he lived out the rest of his days until he passed away in 2008.
I've learned of a recent update in regards to this. In June 2021, state officials shut down Tri County Cremation Services in Ypsilanti due to allegations of improper storage of human remains and unsanitary conditions. O'neil Swanson II, who ran Swanson Funeral Home in Flint, just so happened to be the owner of the establishment as well as another cremation service provider and that he had been running operations without a license; Swanson's mortuary science license was revoked back in April 2018 in connection to the allegations against his funeral home. What I find interesting/ironic is that Swanson's in Flint outsourced their cremations to Tri County Cremation Services, a connection between the two facilities before the latter came under the ownership of O'neil Swanson II.

I worked as a funeral hostess while in high school and I just wanted to clarify that those empty urns, framed images, etc. are there as sales samples. Those little details- fancy urns, fancy framed prints of the decedent are things that don't cost the funeral home much, but are excellent upcharges. Don't worry- other than the cremains you actually saw, it is unlikely anyone was actually left behind there. It is my understanding that the general practice is to inter unclaimed cremains after a period of time, as one would in a pauper's field.
Morticians and funeral directors are evil. I would do that job for free before I would ever charge anybody. There's a special place in hell for those guys and it's right next to satan
Funeral homes also don't make the kind of money some may think. There's a reason why it's expensive AF! Unless one lives in a region that experiences thousands of deaths per year, with little competition in this industry, funeral homes are not the best investments in terms of business. And you're correct, the money is made in all the extras such as services, coffins, urns, etc. Believe it or not but they're not as expensive as one may assume. Almost all urns, caskets, etc are made in China. Even most tombstones nowadays are made in China. So if you ever buy a stone remember that. Chances are the place you are buying it from, including funeral homes that sell them, are just sandblasting the names into them. Very few places still exist that actually make the stones themselves in North America. It's crazy to think that shipping heavy stones from China is cheaper than making them here, but apparently it is! Some funeral homes will charge you for every phone call you make too. I would suggest staying away from those places btw. But I can see why some funeral homes become corrupted, such as this one. Too much competition, not enough mortalities, etc. And like any business, if you become too desperate and lack in quality of service you'll eventually lose customers.

How sad to think they found dead rotting body's how come they never got laid to rest or cremated? The living family members should sue this place how sad for the family and disrespectful to the dead
I know this is old but please tell me you called the police to remove that remain in the hearse after the video 😢 I know they removed as much remain as they could but it saddened to see one left behind, and probably found by one of the people who looted and destroyed the place
Thank you for this video whats shocking is how the family members were treated at this FH they were treated like dirt also the amount of vandalism its really sad also all of the products are very dangerous and hazardous they can kill anyone who takes these another thing I have noticed is the state in which this FH is in blood everywhere
@James Albright That’s a fallacy. It’s true minority FHs tend to receive more negative media attention in these circumstances. The unscrupulous practices of a limited number of FHs are equally distributed between Caucasians and others. The FH out west that was selling body parts of persons in their care wasn’t minority owned or operated. Just recently, the FH in southern Indiana that had 31 bodies in various states of decomposition, before it was shut down, wasn’t owned or operated by minorities. There are similar stories of FHs across the U.S. (who weren’t owned or operated by minorities). You just didn’t hear about them.
Cool find. I was a funeral director in the suburbs of Detroit for 15 years. You got pretty much everything wrong that you described as you found it! I don't expect a novice to know! Sad how people have to destroy, why can't they just leave it aline!
I've worked for a privately owned FH many years ago before SCI came onto the scene. It appears corporate owned FH's are taking over those which are family owned. They don't change the names giving the appearance nothing's changed. Smaller FH's can easily fold if they are fined for violations. Pre-Need violations are common. Families are known to have loved ones cremated & will not come in to retrieve the ashes after many failed attempts at contacting them-so they're shelved. Some families will agree to buy expensive caskets they cannot afford & will opt at the last minute for cremation after loved ones have already been placed in caskets. Caskets cannot be re-used, so there can be units laying around which looked like they were once occupied. The floor drain in the garage is probably where decomposed bodies were drained & rewrapped before cremation. Crematories will not accept wrapped remains where excess body fluids are present. The FH industry is changing and consumers are more aware than ever.
In some states, maybe not yours, you can rent a fancy casket for viewing, then have a far more modest one for actual burial or cremation. Tennessee is one place this practice may be common, even if not strictly legal. I'm sure you know people do things regardless of legality, especially when funeral-sums of money are involved.
Caskets can be reused. Often times you can rent a nicer casket for the funeral and then the body is put into a more affordable casket. That’s why some of them look reused. It’s because they are.
At the 12:27 mark those are not urns those are small replica vaults. After the grounds crew digs the hole there is a vault place in the hole. After the graveside service is over the casket is placed inside the vault & sealed. On top of the vault there will be a tag placed that will have the deceased name & other information on it before the grounds crew fills the hole with dirt.
@@twinklingeyes58 They do here in the UK. We use coffins here. The USA has this weird obsession with vaults and sealed caskets. They won't stop decomposition forever, and funeral homes in the US use them as a moneymaking scam.
I can not get it that someone do that to a love one who dies. Every one has the right off human respect and a dissent grave poor of rich, in a coffin they're the same
The small vaults in the basement weren’t urns - they are just miniature vaults used to show the families the differences in shape and color and quality of the vaults that caskets go in upon burial. They’re just small because entire vaults take up too much space and wouldn’t fit in a display or showroom. Also like another commenter said, many of the engraved urns are likely samples or displays. The same goes for the headstones/markers. I design those for a funeral home and cemetery, and the ones inside are always examples.
Abandoned central I'm so glad you show the love ❤️ ones" Thank You & show show so much care doing this. That is hard to see this kind of thing going with Love Ones . Thank You 💖 . New SUB"
Those cremation vaults are not for home use. They're used to place an urn inside for burial. Usually the lid of the vault is sealed to protect from water entering it after burial. The large ones shown in the video are deigned to hold 2 urns. When it's time to bury the second urn they exhume the old vault, break the seal, and place the second urn inside. Also some cemeteries require that an urn is buried in a vault. As for the cremains found in the Hurst, I noticed that there was no name tag attached to it. It seems that this funeral home was taking shortcuts and not following protocol/laws for cremation. A metal tag with the name of the deceased, along with an ID number registering their cremation, is placed with the body at the time of cremation. The tag is then retrieved after the body is cremated and is attached to the bag that holds the cremains. Believe it or not but the laws concerning the handling of bodies are very strict. In that industry you have to walk a thin line, and rightfully so.

You would think they remove all embalming fluid and body prep chemicals. Those are classified dangerous chemicals. I guess Flint Michigan's Department of Health ain't that great
It's the same Flint Michigan whose water supply is so tainted that people have health complications. Of course they don't give a damn. It also explains why the crooks and vandals tagged and stripped that hearse instead of just hotwiring it or something.

My grandad got fired just for smiling and being merry. He said fuck yous if I can’t smile on the job get yourself another funeral director. 😂🇦🇺
There’s no way I’d be in here by myself but thank you for sharing!
Also wanted to add that I noticed a few times where your footage appears to lag a bit, kind of creepy.
Then don't watch it or visit his channel.

I heard a lot of stories about this funeral home that close down people loved ones was in there now and the place is a Bandan you Gotta be careful going into those places they are very old. Biohazard
How can u b in there without a hazmat suit on???
Besides mold and chemicals there isn't much hazardous. Diseases from the deceased would be long dead.
It's the hair that puts me on edge x
How sad to think they found dead rotting body's how come they never got laid to rest or cremated? The living family members should sue this place how sad for the family and disrespectful to the dead
Complete, total sacrilege. They should be put in jail, for no less than 40 yrs.
It's so insane that they leave cremated remains behind.. wouldn't their families be asking for them?
Not if their families don't give a crap
They probably couldn’t pay.
@@alittlewheiser521 lmagine that. That's probably true too. Only money.... Sick people
Some may have had.no.family left alive. I will be the last of my family.

How do disgusting people like this get away with this crap for so long before the state does something about it?? Absolutely unacceptable.
I know this is old but please tell me you called the police to remove that remain in the hearse after the video 😢
I know they removed as much remain as they could but it saddened to see one left behind, and probably found by one of the people who looted and destroyed the place
Quite certain the deceased won't be returning to file a complaint
It's disgusting me when some people have no respect for stuffs like wrote on wall of the funeral car.
Great video
I'm not a funeral Director but that was not a neck brace . It's called a head block its to prop the head up.
Those deceased photos are sad. To pass away and be disrespected after death is just crazy 😢
Disrespectful people who done this
Funeral homes are so creepy but you got to be real careful where you step at Biohazard flutes
This a situation of bad ownership and bad business this is so sad
Yum! ugh What a mess! It's not possible! Pious Undertaker! Hope he rots in jail.
Thank you for this video whats shocking is how the family members were treated at this FH they were treated like dirt
also the amount of vandalism its really sad also all of the products are very dangerous and hazardous they can kill anyone who takes these another thing I have noticed is the state in which this FH is in blood everywhere
Ever notice how it’s always the minority funeral homes that get busted for conditions like this.
They can always make a choice to not operate in this manner. Personal choices 🤷. People just don't take pride in their own work anymore, it seems.
It’s not race there’s been white owned funeral homes that have had such violations!
@@RStark-ek7mh lol
Those people need to be in prison for doing that to the Dead
My dads name is David AllenSr. Wow this is sad how they leave funeral homes. I think it’s because it’s seized!
I never knew that! Good to know. Always thought caskets went in an empty hole!
@@twinklingeyes58 They do here in the UK. We use coffins here. The USA has this weird obsession with vaults and sealed caskets. They won't stop decomposition forever, and funeral homes in the US use them as a moneymaking scam.
@@supergeekjay you need a vault because of floods, grave robbers and keep ground from sinking when cemetery equipment moves over it
I can not get it that someone do that to a love one who dies. Every one has the right off human respect and a dissent grave poor of rich, in a coffin they're the same
When my sister had passed away that was the funeral home that my parents had did business with. We never received her I remains.
What a POS. he should have been sent to prison for 25 years.

These are the absolute best videos! Can't get enough of them, ever heard of the House of Wills?
THanks so much for watching! House of Wills was a cool location!
Exactly!
I hope the angels Rest In Peace

It's not like buying a old mechanic shop, and finding some decent tools that were left behind.
Please Tell Me These People Owners are In Jail! I can’t believe the People commenting on this Not believing this stuff wouldn’t be left behind, Yes a lot of crap is left behind because the Owners are disgusting 🤢. Just like when someone is killed, or killed themselves, You have to pay someone to come clean it out, their cleaning companies for that.
Rust on porcelain slab? Just prooves how unsanitary it was, blood has high iron content and after time will literallty rust in open atmosphere when not properly disinfected and scrubbed off properly.. Even the stainless steel equiptment was getting a orange tinge to them...

I just never understood why people think they need to go into a place and be buttholes and destroy a place!!!
The what "buttholes",/ A$$ holes, do.
I have seen vacant houses get destroyed by vandals.
This funeral home needed destroying!
But didn't the family's wonder where their loved ones were or why weren't funerals held bodies in garage for months I mean really doesn't make sense ....
Was thinking the same thing they couldnt have forgotten about them
Couldn't the local health department have shut down this facility much sooner?

Are you from Michigan?
That is a "Casket Bier " the stand that you referred to is for putting a casket on.
You would think they remove all embalming fluid and body prep chemicals. Those are classified dangerous chemicals. I guess Flint Michigan's Department of Health ain't that great
They've been in there for years and the police already went in and cleaned this place out lol.
It's the same Flint Michigan whose water supply is so tainted that people have health complications. Of course they don't give a damn.
It also explains why the crooks and vandals tagged and stripped that hearse instead of just hotwiring it or something.
